I mean, what can be done though? People vote, protests are frequent, plenty of activism happening. The trajectory seems good, it’s just not getting there fast.
Redditors here are 13 year olds who think that people can just storm their nation's capitol, kill all the government officials, and set up anarchy as an official government source. (Anarchy doesn't work and never will)
I’m actually unironically getting super frustrated with people (I’m assuming younger/naive people but idc who’s doing it) constantly sitting at home at 2am and posting on social media that we just have to dismantle the entire nation brick by brick and rebuild it as a socialist utopia. Not them of course, because they have work in the morning but some other people should start and they’ll get to it when they get off work at 6. Don’t expect them until 7:30 tho they have to grab some food and just, like, decompress from the day first. It’s gotta happen before November tho because otherwise some liberal will end up in the White House and we need it burned down by then apparently.
It’s just really weird virtue signal grandstanding and I see it *everywhere* now. If you’re going to create some kind of leftist socialist terrorist cell either fuckin do it or shut up and vote.
I’m actually describing my personal experiences with someone like this lol. I love them but I don’t trust people like this when they talk to me about politics. I’m basically a socialist myself but I’m not deluded enough by infotainment CC’s to think we’re going to have a full-scale French Revolution this year.
That's not to say Anarchy = Anarchism. Anarchism, the political philosophy, doesn't work the way you described at all, there are multiple examples of anarchist organising working, you might have even taken part in something rooted in anarchist thought during the pandemic such as a mutual aid organisation, although it might not have called itself that. The anarchy that 13 year olds want because they watched *The Purge* and the Anarchy that anarcho-capitalists want because they ~~want to lower the age of consent~~ went with Mr House in Fallout: New Vegas is very distinct from what anarchists on the left want, such as syndicalists and anarcho-communists. The biggest problem with leftist anarchism is that it involves lots of meetings and committees and politicking and can be really tedious to live through.
Thank you, I find it hard to believe the kiddies here think anarchy is like burning down buildings indiscriminately or whatever. That's just propaganda. Anarchism includes illegal abortions, illegal HRT, all stuff I'm sure this sub would not find objectionable.
There's a good video about this by (pre hrt) philosophy tube, I've always found that one really informative.
Anyone remember that post asking what the optometrist situation would be in an anarchist commune and the answer unironically talked about roving gangs of freelance optometrists
I agree with the 13 year old fantasies of dismantling the whole government being nonsense, especially when none of them do any activism, but to blanket claim anarchism doesn't work and never will when it has historically worked and currently works on smaller scales shows you should learn a bit more about it.
The largest, in my opinion successful, example is Spain [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anarchism\_in\_Spain](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anarchism_in_Spain) if you want a brief overview. If you go to rural Spain even today, whilst many don't officially proclaim themselves to be anarchists, you will still find plenty of small autonomous communities living without hierarchy.
You'd be hard pressed to find any political ideology that doesn't work to some degree ever.
Reminds me of those losers who posted stuff like “if your election is between 99% Hitler and 100% Hitler you are morally obligated to overthrow your government” like come on bruh you’re achieving absolutely nothing. Australia fixed this problem with preferential voting btw
??? Australians and Americans can both vote out their government. It's just that there's no one good to vote for. Actually, I'd argue that Australians are more able to vote out government out since we have compulsory voting.
Correct! It's called Preferential Voting. https://youtu.be/eC_QqArDDiQ?si=w-zCLk3gbPdhUGte explained pretty well in here.
TLDW: List of candidates are given to you and you number them from 1 to X (X depends on how many people are running in your electorate).
If your 1 vote doesn't go in, that vote goes to your second preference. Same thing occurs if that person doesn't get in, it goes to the next person. Ultimately this will filter down to the candidate who gets the 50% of votes from first preference and all of the other preferences.
it's interesting as someone who live in denmark (we use the party list system with proportional representation) the idea of being able to choose more than one candidate on your ballot is really cool
Yeah pretty much. This is for the House or Representative (or Lower House).
The Senate is a whole other can of worms where you either number the parties you wish or you number each individual person. Gives a bit more flexibility if you don't like a person or a particular party you're voting for initially. Although they've famously been quite long with a lot of people in some states that are to be elected for first time or re-elected.
That's how it is for most of us "commonwealths." Even here in Canada, we hate our government, no matter who's Prime Minister, but ask anyone what they love about here, and it'll be everything
I remember Australia's video game releases were significantly censored for things like violence and blood back in the day, such that games would get "clean" releases over there and it was illegal to mod back in the original versions. Lots of complaining and jokes about that.
I haven't kept up with it since, and this was like a decade ago by now tho.
There's a lot to be patriotic about here, but in term of nationalism, we have like, the flag? Stuff we did in WW1? The date of Australia Day specifically?
Nationalism in Australia has been so unorganised that any time its invoked to rile people up it fizzles out pretty fast. Its hard to form a national identity that is combative when we have just the ANZACs and uhhh
Yeah, the anzacs. Oh and we’re convicts but that doesn’t usually align too well with nationalist zeal where they hate criminals (see: migrants)
You point to the Anzacs as the only nationalist myth Australia has, but it's also the only nationalist myth that those who benefit from such myths need.
The mythologising of what happened on that beach is insane in its scale. The wank fest every Anzac Day is stupid. Remembrance Day is an important date, but Anzac Day is just one big patriotic circlejerk.
It's not the only one, our nation is just too young and nationalist myths normally center around wartime engagements. It's just ironic that our best remembered engagement is also a (well executed) retreat in Gallipoli.
It's probably because I don't exactly have a lot of nationalist friends, but in my experience Anzac Day has always been presented as a solemn occasion where the emphasis is on the fact that a lot of people died.
Funny you remember the ANZACs but not the Eureka stockade. The Eureka flag is at almost every nationalist protest. They love the whole larrikin sentiment that's why Waltzing Matilda and Ned Kelly exists.
As an Australian we are fairly patriotic but not nationalistic. We are quite happy with our place in the world and we will like to keep things as they are. The multicultural land of immigrants that we are. With a native population that is the longest continuous culture in the world.
Je vais bein!
Im well, but to be honest I havent spoken it since the 9th grade, so I can only pick up on general meanings, more complex sentences and slang is something I cant read well anymore.
Nah yours was good, tbh I took it for the required amount of time (its been so long i dont remember if I took it 1 or 2 years) but Im really upset bc I took the AP program and thought I was bad at it bc I barely finished with an 80 in first year highschool (high 90 geade gifted kid in elementary school) so I was discouraged from taking it ever again, which I took it at academic/uni level instead of AP and kept going itd be great on a resume.
Particularly shitty AI images with little to no post-generation editing, that is. With effort, AI images can look very good. But that would be effort, and we know 95% of people using AI images are opposed to that.
As it is currently there’s a specific style with ai’s lighting/coloring. Even after editing unless you’d have to redo literally every aspect but the line art. I don’t even know if that’d work because I’ve seen ai do plain line art and you can tell the brush strokes have a weird texture or are done in a way a person would.
I don’t mind if someone does reference image or slight tracing from ai art, but they want instant gratification.
>As it is currently there’s a specific style with ai’s lighting/coloring.
Which depends *entirely* on the particular software used and the model(s) used, of which there are hundreds, and whether it's been set up to imitate a particular style or technique. It's obvious if the person is using a low quality model, lazy or doesn't care. DALL-E, Midjourney, Stable Diffusion and Bing Image Creator will all give different quality results even with identical inputs and configuration.
I really wish people would stop talking confidently about things they clearly don't understand.
Eh, it is possible to get good skin texture that looks truly photoreal, if you're using Stable Diffusion you just need to use a good model optimized for it, and likely a LORA, and Adetailer (to fix things going fucky).
The problem is that even SDXL can't handle large complex scenes while maintaining the small details too. It inevitably goofs on something like a hand coming out of a chest or whatever.
You can reliably make photoreal people, but You're limited to very simple compositions and close shots. Things like Adetailer can fix the face and sometimes hands, but it's not perfect.
I think it's mainly Midjourney that has that uncanny rubbery skin texture. I haven't noticed it as much in Stable Diffusion.
My hypothesis is that they generated a lot of training data with 3D rendering software (something like this procedural generation technique https://microsoft.github.io/FaceSynthetics/) in order to make more physically consistent people and non-weird hands. Enforcing 3D consistency was shown to be successful at solving that problem where hands had 9 fingers and shit: https://www3.cs.stonybrook.edu/~sunarasimhas/webpage/ICCV_2023_EA_Supreeth_HandGen.pdf
But who the fuck knows, I'm just spitballing. Since Midjourney is a commercial entity, not a research lab, they don't publish shit.
They're dumb and can't really tell the difference? They lack emotional depth? They lack media literacy? They don't care if it looks bad because they don't really believe in what they're saying? They're just looking for quick outrage points before the grift-o-sphere targets a new thing? Real artists don't want to support fascists that are trying to kill them?
There's lots of reasons.
This is below low effort, this is like someone doing layers with mspaint. Just hit the generate button again if you get a guy with an arm coming out of his chest. Yeesh.
Lack of creativity leads to both AI laziness and Political laziness (Easy solutions to complex problems, such as blaming immigrants for the poor economy)
A few things
1. No one is there to actually make pictures of
2. Art in general is left leaning, it requires creativity, emotion and chaos, things right wing politics oppose
3. Ai can do whatever you ask it to do, contrary to artist who often have morals
4. Conservatives are gullible idiots who were sold on the idea of AI by their leaders, which means they must use it to rationalize the fact that they were manipulated into hyping up garbage
No its a demonstration of the innate psychic abilities latent in the Australian population. That is the original reason why they were sent there by the british.
This gets worse the longer you look at it there’s so much wrong.
Third arm on one guy, extra hand holding a beer through center guy’s chest, the sexy overall look on one guy for some reason, no one is even holding the other end of the flag to make it stand like that, pretty much no one is saluting properly, the meat looks weird, and the flag isn’t even accurate, cause the stars are fucked up
also the “patriotic australians” typically look like the guy on the bottom left.
source: was volunteering for labour(left leaning political party) at the polls for the yes vote(yes to indigenous Australians having a voice in parliment). the only people who came up to me and talked shit about it were old white people.
The most ethnic suburbs in western Sydney (most ethnic place in Australia) were largely majority no. Non white people are easily the most racist, especially when they carry their problems from overseas with them. People only think old white people are racist because there's a lot of them and they don't care what you think.
For anyone looking at this who might get the impression please don't think the majority of us down here are like these racist fuckwits. Every major Australian city is extremely multicultural and it's one of the best things about them. I live in Brisbane, the third largest city, and even here you can't walk five meters without seeing 10 restaurants or shops from different countries. People like this are in denial of what makes our country great.
mmmm I mean we can be pretty bad, maybe not American south bad or European nationalist bad but there are plenty of fuckwits here.
edit: but yah just to back up jesse-ray no one has ever heard of australia month
The extra hand distracted me from the fact that the left side of the flag is being held up by thin air...
Edit: I JUST noticed the dude with the extra arm good lord
It's a one nation party member. They are anti-immigration and consider anyone who is pro-immigration, anti-australian. And as you might be able to tell from the name, they're a nationalist party.
In particular this seems (although I've not seen or heard of the campaign in Australia) to be in opposition to the push to change our national holiday Australia Day from the 26th of Jan. The date has been used nationally for 30 odd years and people don't like it because it was basically the start of the invasion and genocide of Aboriginals. Also it's basically the date of the founding of NSW's colony and ignores the rest. We became a country on Jan 1st but that's already a public holiday which is a bummer.
It’s always right wing people that post shitty a content algorithm images, why is that? Is there some factor that makes them more willing/susceptible to using those kinds of images or does the content I’m seeing have a bias?
We love an irreverent larrikin who cracks 'ethnic' jokes over a couple of tinnies. If you don't like it just HTFU mate.
But don't you DARE come for our most sacred and ancient traditions like Australia Day (since 1935)
For context: the date of Australia Day is the day that Captain Cook first landed on Australia, a date that is considered a dark day to indigenous Australians, who call the date Invasion Day. Every January we have this annoying debate about it, and all the conservatives start whinging about the people that don't wanna celebrate being invaded.
The floating flag, the third arm holding the beer, the third arm thwacking its owner in the nose, the collection of meats from a variety of aliens, the distended collection of BBQ utensils...
A perfect metaphor for nationalism. Made up and stupid.
Imagine being nationalist about fucking Australia of all places.
As an Australian, I feel like most people here are patriotic only in the way of “our government fucking sucks ass I love Australia”
"I just don't love it enough to actually do anything about the government sucking"
I mean, what can be done though? People vote, protests are frequent, plenty of activism happening. The trajectory seems good, it’s just not getting there fast.

I don't think you're wrong here, but this is the textbook definition of strawmanning
too anxious to answer a phone call but wants to destroy the government is a classic
It's an archetype, sure, but I'd rather discuss a real person who actually said that than focus on a hypothetical person who is cartoonishly stupid
I’m actually describing my personal experiences with someone like this lol. I love them but I don’t trust people like this when they talk to me about politics. I’m basically a socialist myself but I’m not deluded enough by infotainment CC’s to think we’re going to have a full-scale French Revolution this year.
Not a strawman if it's true
Not really. Have you seen these Twitter MF-ers and the comments in this thread?
I have seen hundreds of people like this on social media
Jarvis, open xkcd 2071
HAHA that’s amazing. And probably very true in this case. I hope this kind of thinking isn’t as common as it appears to my anecdotal experience.

hoły shit thank you. i feel insane seeing people genuinely advocating for anarchy in massive fucking countries as if that’s even remotely a good idea.

Unlike seppos here, we can actually pass gun control legislation and isn’t sleep walking into fascism.
Can confirm, "the government is a joke but at least we aren't the us, Australia is bloody ripper"
As an Australian, I honestly couldn't have put it better myself
Im pretty sure "our government fucking sucks ass I love *x*" Can be applied to most countries lmao
and getting pissed when bunnings doesnt have the sausage sizzle out
We need our democracy snags!
at least we can vote ours out

sorry, didn't clarify I'm Australian. preferential and compulsory voting make America's system seem rigged in comparison
yeah if i recall correctly Australia does not have "first pass the post" voting which does make their system more fair than the us.

Are we significantly worse than other countries in that regard?
no, not to my knowledge at least
I remember Australia's video game releases were significantly censored for things like violence and blood back in the day, such that games would get "clean" releases over there and it was illegal to mod back in the original versions. What's wrong with that? It's just the new TC Tuggers drink holder TC Top. They're not a joke!
it's no Dan Flashes, but it'll do
Imagine the patterns AI could come up with. That shirt would be worth thousands
easily thousands-- five, sometimes six figures
Oh, it costs more because of the patterns!
He's such a patriot he grew a third arm so he could salute while holding his beer! Now that's loving your country.
You may not like it, but this is what peak Australiaing looks like
Bros so Aussie he grew a third arm for drinking
a shirt like that would honestly go hard
Tbh that crop goes kinda hard.
I'm surprised nobody is pointing out the guy on the far left isn't even holding the flag up.
nipple tape
That's meant to be symbolic
No its a demonstration of the innate psychic abilities latent in the Australian population. That is the original reason why they were sent there by the british.
Either he also has a third arm or the flag is just stiff. Also there's somebody's jeans merging with his leg
This gets worse the longer you look at it there’s so much wrong. Third arm on one guy, extra hand holding a beer through center guy’s chest, the sexy overall look on one guy for some reason, no one is even holding the other end of the flag to make it stand like that, pretty much no one is saluting properly, the meat looks weird, and the flag isn’t even accurate, cause the stars are fucked up
It's not even the Aussie salute either, plus the guys on the right have no eyes.
They have no eyes
vortigauntophobia? in MY 196?
i hate galangers
Surprised this is the only comment about the vorts :(
two of them have a third arm
well 2 have 3 hands one has 3 arms
also the “patriotic australians” typically look like the guy on the bottom left. source: was volunteering for labour(left leaning political party) at the polls for the yes vote(yes to indigenous Australians having a voice in parliment). the only people who came up to me and talked shit about it were old white people.
A decent spread of that guy as well as the Young Liberal guys who wear RMs whilst never having set foot outside a capital city.
Every young liberal looks like they have been crafted out of plasticine
Ha yeah no one has heard of this Australia month campaign
mmmm I mean we can be pretty bad, maybe not American south bad or European nationalist bad but there are plenty of fuckwits here. edit: but yah just to back up jesse-ray no one has ever heard of australia month
bruh it’s been less than a year since we failed the “are you racist” vote
The extra hand distracted me from the fact that the left side of the flag is being held up by thin air... Edit: I JUST noticed the dude with the extra arm good lord
Photoshop? It looks ai generated to me
It is. QRT guy must be too old to know the difference.
Nah that’s just a design on his shirt
am i like really good at detecting ai art or something i dont need to look for a third arm it just looks plastic
They arent even hiding the astroturfing at this point lmao
Least obvious AI generated image
Smh not even saluting properly that is the American salute not the Australian one. Australian salute has the palm facing outwards not down.
FUCKIN STRAYA CUNTTTTT 🇦🇺🦘🇦🇺🇦🇺🦘🧐🇦🇺🦘🧐🧐🦘🦘🦘🦘🦘
Pretty ableist to assume everyone has two arms. Checkmate, OOP.
Why do none of them have eyes? Like, there are shadows where their eyes should be, but none of them have actual eyeballs?
Need to get myself a beer arm
Do the Anti-Australian haters hate Australia or people who are Anti-Australian
It's a one nation party member. They are anti-immigration and consider anyone who is pro-immigration, anti-australian. And as you might be able to tell from the name, they're a nationalist party.
They also think climate change is a myth
They also seem to think shitting on trans people is a winning election strategy, so far they've been proven very wrong.
Australia hasn't been the same since the radiation storms hit
Kelermorph looking ass https://preview.redd.it/ns6f4lz7oyac1.jpeg?width=1400&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=f1c1c23ecc0e675aa3b3483e5173a02a5b9f5563
It’s always right wing people that post shitty a content algorithm images, why is that? Is there some factor that makes them more willing/susceptible to using those kinds of images or does the content I’m seeing have a bias?
They wanna be american so bad
one guy with 3 arms and one guy with 3 hands
Bruh, these people look straight out of the Sims4
I need me a beer hand
Also 5 of these guys have the exact same face, and the other 3 also have the exact same face
Guy in the plaid shirt just dabbing
Also the flag standing up with only one person holding it with two fingers
I wanna know what kind of meat they're cooking up. Looks..... different.
That's just his cup holder
Chest arm for holding beer.
It's hilarious when people need to use ai generated images to prove a point
We love an irreverent larrikin who cracks 'ethnic' jokes over a couple of tinnies. If you don't like it just HTFU mate. But don't you DARE come for our most sacred and ancient traditions like Australia Day (since 1935)
Who's holding the other end of that flag?
I can't be sure but *one* of these stars probably isn't on the real flag
For context: the date of Australia Day is the day that Captain Cook first landed on Australia, a date that is considered a dark day to indigenous Australians, who call the date Invasion Day. Every January we have this annoying debate about it, and all the conservatives start whinging about the people that don't wanna celebrate being invaded.
Guy in the middle using mage hand for his beer
what is cdawg doing there
That’s just the extra beer he was talking about in the original post, what’s the problem?!
The floating flag, the third arm holding the beer, the third arm thwacking its owner in the nose, the collection of meats from a variety of aliens, the distended collection of BBQ utensils... A perfect metaphor for nationalism. Made up and stupid.
Fuck ai trash all the way home
It looks like an AI generated image and like the Sims at the same time
Why they all look like linus tech tips?
Why does Austria have a pride month now?
Just the newest batch of genestealers, don’t worry about it
Guy on the bottom left looks like what’s his name from walking desd
