Exactly, there's still red light being emitted in the image and your brain is picking it up. This is like those videos where someone converts a song with lyrics to a midi and plays it on a piano and says "there's no lyrics" even though the lyrics are still there, they're just being played on the piano keys
uhhh that's like not what rgb does: this effect would still show up with paint
i think you're arguing that pixels are an optical illusion (with or without your knowledge) which isn't really relevant to this other optical illusion
Yeah, itās like saying that this colour is actually red and green.
Thereāll be red and green in the pixels, but itās blue.

This is not the way to think about it. The red there is just a component of the cyan. You could just as well physically paint all the pixels of this image so that you just had the cyan wavelength and there truly was no red and the effect would be the same. You see red because your brain sees the lighting of the image as cyan, and determines that in these lighting conditions the white it sees from the Coke can could only result from the can being red. So even though no red light is hitting your eye (your eye is not high res enough to see the red from the subpixels), you see red.
You couldn't. The effect is only working because of the white in there. There is no white or pale cyan wavelength (this is not a pure cyan) only a mix of wavelengths can create this color and therefore even without a RGB-screen, you would need some red wavelengths emitting from your lightsource that are not totally absorbed by the paint to get the effect.
Illusion really disappears when there's actually no red in it lol

That also made all the white blue. You wouldnāt say white is red, but it does have a fully red rgb value.
There is no actual red in the original, regardless of the rgb values
You have removed all the white. The white is what causes you to see the red, as your brain tricks you into thinking that thereās cyan lighting.
[This comment explains it better than I can](https://www.reddit.com/r/196/s/sRLu706krl).
Thereās technically red in the white, but you wouldnāt call this red:

Probably a lot. It's now pretty well accepted that our expectations drive our perceptions. We have an expectation about what color cans with the coke logo are supposed to be. Ergo, the presence of the logo biases us to see red when none is present.
Seeing a lot of green where youre used to seeing much less colour causes your vision processing to compensate. The fact that its a very recognizable object that is normally bright red helps.
brain has extremely good auto white balance. By shifting the entire image's colour space away from red but keeping the relative colour proportions the same you can get away with an image that has very limited colours but your brain will compensate.
All images on a screen are rendered using a combination of red, green, and blue.
There's nothing totally red, but the blue in the can has more red than the surrounding colours, making it contextually/relatively appear as red.
Is the title telling the truth. Is there actually no red. Cause I don't see any red. But I usually don't see red very well. am I being fucked with again
There are no red pixels; however, for "standard vision", the contrast of cyan, black, and white - in a particular pattern that implies shadows etc - generates an optical illusion that causes white pixels to appear red.
It works because the black is contrasted against turqouise in some parts of the image, and against white in other parts.
That and we know the thing is usually red
screenshotted the mobile mini version, that's red.

This is sooo coool. This would make for a great painting to entertain guests, just imagine them moving their head in and out trying to see the red fad away.
actually, one of blacks are on the red color spectrum!

oh i see how it works. the surrounding blue parts creates a 'red vacuum'
It's kind of like when you're starving, a single grape is amazing.
There is literally negative red so the white or 'neutral' part seems red
Nu uh there's red right there :3 :3 :3 it's oki it took me a while too
Look again: š„ Bet you feel really stupid now, no red in sight
Oh silly I always feel stupid :3
Lmao smae :3
Yes there is https://preview.redd.it/x1jchgd4cuxc1.jpeg?width=1170&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=13e14a66f24f41d0b8755526500455c8cee16cd1

The lyrics are not there lol. Piano keys cannot recreate fucking vowels and consonants that would be insane dude
>Exactly, there's still red light being emitted in the image and your brain is picking it up.Ā No it's fucking not.
Do you have a link to one of those? I want to see it but I donāt know what to search.
Here you goĀ https://youtu.be/ZY6h3pKqYI0?si=27cFVgorRbH7dyO5

You can make it reappear (partially) by lowering the luminosity of formerly cyan pixels.
Why'd you post a red square?
its not red, its actually white but your brain sees it as red due to the surrounding color, cyan, being opposite from red
red is a component of white
Yeah, but if I ask you what colour this white circle: āŖļø is, youāre not gonna say red are you?
Itās obviously magenta
But if you said "This circle contains no red" you'd be lying
That also made all the white blue. You wouldnāt say white is red, but it does have a fully red rgb value. There is no actual red in the original, regardless of the rgb values

thats gotta be red
It's because OP shared a shitty screenshot, the original actually has no red
I wonder how much work the coke logo is doing subliminally
My theory is that because the coke logo is associated with being white, and is blue here is shifts the whole image to appear more red
Yeah itās just reference frames. Same reason you can tell what colors things are in tinted light.
Sodium light [be like](https://youtu.be/riZcq-MN55s?si=k4zW3m6QAvaUP5aV)
Specifically low pressure sodium lamps. High pressure sodium lamps arenāt monochromatic, as anyone around older street lamps can confirm.
Genuinely yeah, I noticed when I covered the coke logo it became much easier to perceive no red.
Probably a lot. It's now pretty well accepted that our expectations drive our perceptions. We have an expectation about what color cans with the coke logo are supposed to be. Ergo, the presence of the logo biases us to see red when none is present.
Idk I saw red at first glance
Congratulations you broke the mind of a person who is already mentally broken š
Good on my brain for adding in colour where there is none.
Maaan fuck your pfp. I like it.
Thank you.
How does that work? Edit: Ok I know how it works now. No need to explain anymore
Feds invaded your brain

Eyes don't see good Brain fills in the gaps. Things normally arnt all blue, so it tries to make it look less blue

no
Everytime you think you understand color theory something like this hits you in the crotch

Oh that's wild
if you cover the coke logo with your fingers, the rest of the can settles back into monochrome
Oh it's super neat how the can looks more red the farther away you view it
McCarthyism
Idk bruh looks pretty red right there
It works because the black is contrasted against turqouise in some parts of the image, and against white in other parts. That and we know the thing is usually red

It's actually still at most gray with a hint of pink, with the highest pink-direction saturation being around 7% (basically still gray)
This is sooo coool. This would make for a great painting to entertain guests, just imagine them moving their head in and out trying to see the red fad away.
Are you a magician?
Brain interpretation my beloved
Am I supposed to see red? The can is just a mix of black, white, and blue
wonder if it'd work with something other than a coke can, like just a sharpie
Technically, white is a combination of red and the other colours, so...
Holy shit
the fuck?
Oh come on!
Jason Pargin my beloved <3
My rods say otherwise.
Bait is supposed to be believable
duh obviously
i can override the illusion for just a fraction of a second
I knowĀ
Define red. Cause theres red in that picture to me lmao
Zoom in on the red sections and the red disappears. It's an optical illusion
That doesnt remove the red from the picture tho, its still red when you zoom out
Thatās not how it works
I mean im looking at it mate, theres red right there
Cover the coke canās logo and youāll see it better
this shit is just a black and white image what are yall on im colorblind so i see this for what it is
Clor theery is so kool

Is it my turn to repost yet?
No
No there is dummy š
oh i see how it works. the surrounding blue parts creates a 'red vacuum' It's kind of like when you're starving, a single grape is amazing. There is literally negative red so the white or 'neutral' part seems red
It looks red and then it just turns white
Kinda weird how the colors that contrast each other on the color scale are so similar to the colors of the cans and the glass bottlesā¦
I mean, if you're looking at this on an RGB display, there is red
Ah my silly little neurons are correcting for the amount of cyan in the image by interpreting white as red. How amusing.Ā
idk, I can't see anything with this horrendous quality
how do i see through the illusion it looks red to me no matter what i do
