Can we all agree though that we shouldn't watch the movie anyways because this is a super cheap grab for attention by Disney? Like clearly anyone bitching about Ariel being black has some internalized racism but we still shouldn't defend Disney's practices.

CalmAd2364

I’m not going to see it because it does not interest me but if a little black girl who is so happy that Ariel looks like her is excited to see it I’m not going to rain on her parade. Just to clarify, you are saying Disney making the live action remake is a grab for attention not them casting a black actress as Ariel right?

HyperVexed

I'm with the people who say that Disney wanted to intentionally piss fragile conservatives off so they get free advertising.

CalmAd2364

“The only reason Disney would cast a black actor is for the attention they would get from angry racists.” This theory is shit and quite frankly borderline offensive.

HyperVexed

If it were any other company, I would agree with you.

CalmAd2364

Please actually think about it in perspective. You really think they would chose to cast the lead actress of a giant feature film around the minor publicity boosts they’re going to get from a small amount of angry racists? Please think that out and realize how insane and offensive that sounds. This is just a different flavor of “you only got the part because of a diversity hire” only a whole other level of insulting by saying that it was done for the sake of publicity from racists.

HyperVexed

I think the reason it seems offensive is because of how insane and baseless it sounds and disregards what I hear was an absolutely outstanding audition by the actress. I have to agree though, it is insane and baseless. I simply hate Disney and would expect a company like them to swoop this low.
