Too be honest I love the new textures, having played a lot of both 1.12.2 and whatever the current version at the time was (1.14+) I agree it has a very different feel to it, I suppose it comes down to preference.
you can always plays on older version with mods if you dont like the feature creep
sadly on a game thats constantly being worked on,feature creep is an inevitability
Actually tho. Why the fuck do I have to wait half a year for a useless update that adds a random animal when you are the highest grossing game of all time
animal crossing new horizons
mario golf gold rush
super mario maker 2
mario strikers battle league
~~mario kart 8 deluxe not receiving a single content update outside of twink link for 4 years~~
Nintendo switch sports taking an entire year to add GOLF
Mario Maker 2 wasnt "unfinished" at launch lol.
Edit: Neither was mario kart 8 deluxe since, yknow, it was a port of a game that was already complete when it launched on the wii u
Imo that doesnt mean the game is "incomplete" they were just leaving open the possibility for another style. (Also iirc its not plural in the japanese version)
Like something being incomplete means stuff was taken out or delayed that absolutley should have been in the game at launch, but Mario Maker 2 was fine as is. IMO I dont think it *needed* another style.
To be fair Mario Odyssey added a bunch of random outfits for coins post launch and also that Luigi balloon game I haven't ever played lol
(Wait I think I misread)
At the very least for Nintendo it seems to have at least started as a legit strategy. I remember back in Splatoon 1 people datamined the game and found a bunch of upcoming content finished and on the files.
The Splatoon games still already feel like finished games at launch that are getting extra content while other Nintendo games that use the same model feel like they're using the updates as a crutch to launch unfinished so they can hit a deadline to make the shareholders happy, like ACNH.
Yeah because having references to unfinished features is *totally* the same as those features being "finished" and waiting for an arbitrary date to release them.
Nintendo realising their fans will buy the games anyway:
To be fair they still do give us good games, it's just the sports ones that are treated the way you described
EA literally took the monetisation model from a free app store mobile game, and put it in a $60 AAA game
And then comes the issue with Kickstarter. You donate money for a game you don't yet have, only for the game to not release, and you are not entitled to a refund.
I study in multimedia integration. Two of my teachers worked at Ubisoft Montréal (one has been there so recently, he made some of the guns in Far Cry 6) and it’s like Ubisoft games are the only games they’ve ever seen.

Because it’s known for being an incredibly toxic and sexist workplace, and they tend to monetise games to ludicrous degrees and abandon great franchises if they make no money. They’ve also been vocal about their intentions to use NFTs in games.
Same, I miss Gravity Rush so much and also a ton of the other japan Studios måde games, even if they didn't always sell the best they still helped diversity the brand with a bunch of cool niches you couldn't get anywhere else. Like, it feels like so long ago playstation had an exclusive that was truly something unique. Now most of them are Western made cinematic action adventure games with a few role-playing Elements. The games definitely still feel somewhat different from each other, but they're just a lot more homogeneous then it used to be and that makes me pretty sad.
Yeah I guess that's kinda cool, even though I would have rather had a new game. As a lot of my enjoyment of the series really comes from playing around with the the gravity powers, but despite that the world is also really coo and worth expanding onl.
It's such a weird and interesting universe, just the right amount of magical anime girl stuff paired with dark and scary moments to give the universe some weight while still remaing hopeful and upbeat. I really hope they can capture that tone. Another thing is I really think it should be animated and follows the games amazing art style, the short animation they made that tied in with 2 was so good, if they made a full version of that I'd be happy.
they release them unfinished and are representative of the problems in the industry. + the sickening sexual harrasment and more that occur in their workplaces.
Ubisoft consistently downgrades their games before release. Literally like all the damn time. Worst examples to me are Rainbow six siege and the original Watchdogs. The E3 trailer looks incredible and then when the game is actually released it looks completely different.
Yeah checked and wow, yeah it’s crazy that the graphics looked better in the trailers, it’s almost like literally every fucking game does that including elden ring
Ubisoft is definitely the most notorious for this in my eyes. The only other worse example I can think of that is not a Ubisoft game is maybe Dark Souls 2 and it’s release downgrade. No other studio can really compete with the false advertising that Ubisoft does though lol I mean did you see the division trailer?
Siege and for honor are amazing new genuinely interesting genres of games, great concepts. But everything Ubisoft does is so insanely unpolished and riddled with a shitton of tiny annoying things that add up, making their games insanely frustrating to play. On top of that they often design some gameplay elements really poorly. And they also allow toxicity to flow rampantly without proper punishments for those toxic players
As someone who spent like 4 years playing for honor, i'm still surprised ubisoft hasn't shut it down yet. Like yeah their budget is basically just breadcrumbs but still, ubisoft been cancelling bigger projects with bigger budgets and playerbases after a year of support left and right
(also i want to hug Stefan Jewinski, he's so cute)
I tried for honor again last night and it's unplayable for me. Something happened ever since I got a new controller which fucked up the controls, made the camera move 6 times faster than the speed of light on the slowest setting, and when I use a feat that you aim it's EVEN faster, but also inverted. Seriously, even me touching the right stick flips it 180 degrees pretty much.
But that game is so incredibly riddled with small annoying things it's probably good that I can't play it anymore
Always played it with mouse and keyboard so idk. Also i stopped playing it like half a year ago when it became not possible to buy battle passes in my country anymore and i wasn't able to figure out other ways to do it with uplay (and noone cares about for honor so no keys in shady stores for me either), so double idk
But overall yeah, it got plenty of annoying little things like that
I overlooked a lot of Origins flaws because I was a big Egyptian History fan growing up and I was just happy to finally have a game set there. Odyssey was good and I haven’t gotten a chance to play Valhalla yet. I’m one of those people who has to 100% the map so I know it’s probably going to be a big project.
I think modern good games that are released by ubisoft only happen because some developers were able to sneak by some creative and interesting ideas before being crunched to death.
Otherwise you end up with something like Far Cry 6 which is the most bland and corporate entertainment product imaginable.
Absolutely. I got fc6 recently and while I really enjoy it and it’s my favourite since fc2, it’s completely just lowest common denominator crowd pleasing. Especially with all the companions being animals in this one and all the side characters getting introduced with a freeze frame title card, it’s just super lame
I hate the trend in modern studios where they distribute an unfinished product, then work on it and say that they're "adding to the game".
I hate that, but I love when the product is excellent on its own and then they just keep adding things. I love you Slime Rancher ❤️
The second one is supposed to come this year isn’t it
Yea it’s in coming out soon in early access
By soon it’s this Thursday
Oh boy I hope nothing bad happens tomorrow
*The 20 kilometer wide meteor hurtling through space on a collision course with earth that the government didn’t tell us about to prevent mass panic\*: ☄️
22nd is early access
Holy shit I need to clear my schedule
Yea, in two days

Ehh I can see where you're coming from but the half year updates are always where the excitement is at for me
I think for me it’s the new textures 😭they make the game look too polished and less “fun”
Too be honest I love the new textures, having played a lot of both 1.12.2 and whatever the current version at the time was (1.14+) I agree it has a very different feel to it, I suppose it comes down to preference.

Minecraft needed more features, they just didn’t add the right features
It’s a weird way to describe it but before Minecraft was very edible. I could eat it. But now, Minecraft leaves me with the taste of cotton.
Actually tho. Why the fuck do I have to wait half a year for a useless update that adds a random animal when you are the highest grossing game of all time
yeah for real, the nether update was good but pretty much everything they’ve added since is completely useless and unnecessary.
It was unfinished when I got it (I bought it several years before it left early access)
Yeah and even in clearly stated early access (when I bought it as well) it was still a really fun game
tbf early slime rancher was kind of a mess. it was fun, but it had about 5-6 hours of playtime before you did everything.
this is quite literally every nintendo game
Which games do that? Ive only played mario odyssey from them recently but that didnt seem to apply
animal crossing new horizons mario golf gold rush super mario maker 2 mario strikers battle league ~~mario kart 8 deluxe not receiving a single content update outside of twink link for 4 years~~ Nintendo switch sports taking an entire year to add GOLF

I mean, regardless of whether they went too far New Horizons was another example of content being in the game, it was just dependent on the date.
Yeah because having references to unfinished features is *totally* the same as those features being "finished" and waiting for an arbitrary date to release them.
No, I’m saying that if your Switch’s internal clock got to specific dates then you could access the content.
Oh, you mean like every animal crossing game? We're not talking about timed events like that here. Thats a completely different topic
Nintendo realising their fans will buy the games anyway: To be fair they still do give us good games, it's just the sports ones that are treated the way you described EA literally took the monetisation model from a free app store mobile game, and put it in a $60 AAA game
Nintendo Nintendo Nintendo
Hello there Nintendo
the only good early access game was Subnautica. i started playing when salt was still white cubes
There's still a difference between early access and advertising as a finished product, though.
big time, but i do have a moral issue with early access you pay for that never becomes realized
And then comes the issue with Kickstarter. You donate money for a game you don't yet have, only for the game to not release, and you are not entitled to a refund.
ah but hollow knight and a hat in time.. hell of a gamble
Also Factorio. The game had a free demo so you knew exactly what the game had to offer
i miss demos /333

It is like that. The criticism over a female character ended in 2 seconds. Does show what kind of people they are
Not going to lie when I first seen it I just thought someone modded a Watchdogs game
Straight up thought it was regular ass watchdogs 2
I thought it was a fake using Saints Row or Watch Dogs footage tbh
Or a Bethesda game after six months of patches
Why tf are people so dedicated to hating Ubi when they have a ton of great games
Because it’s known for being an incredibly toxic and sexist workplace, and they tend to monetise games to ludicrous degrees and abandon great franchises if they make no money. They’ve also been vocal about their intentions to use NFTs in games.

This has nothing to do with this, but i’m still so fucking mad at Sony for not giving a shit about Gravity Rush and then shutting down Japan studios
Same, I miss Gravity Rush so much and also a ton of the other japan Studios måde games, even if they didn't always sell the best they still helped diversity the brand with a bunch of cool niches you couldn't get anywhere else. At least they’re apparently making a gravity rush movie/tv show so they haven’t completely forgotten

Focusing on just the games at what point do you guys consider a game unfinished and when is it just adding features. It seems like just games you like

Yeah it’s called a trailer???
r/196 when dishonest advertising 🤤🥺😳😁
Dishonest cockvertising 😳
Go watch them and you’ll know what I mean. There exist more than a few comparison videos.
Yeah checked and wow, yeah it’s crazy that the graphics looked better in the trailers, it’s almost like literally every fucking game does that including elden ring
I upset the ubisoft stan uh oh
Not a Stan just sick of seeing people shit on them for no reason and bootlick studios that are just as bad
Ubisoft is definitely the most notorious for this in my eyes. The only other worse example I can think of that is not a Ubisoft game is maybe Dark Souls 2 and it’s release downgrade. No other studio can really compete with the false advertising that Ubisoft does though lol I mean did you see the division trailer?
that time cdpr kept saying cyberpunk 2077 will "release when it's done" was fucking hilarious tho
The dark souls 2 trailer fucking sucked lmao. Most people think that the game is a downgrade because 1 is better (debatable)
Elden ring trailer has barely any gameplay and that which does appear is actually in the game
Siege and for honor are amazing new genuinely interesting genres of games, great concepts. and half of them are assassins creed
None of them are assassins creed imo
Black flag and 3 were great Ive heard origins is also good but I havent played it yet
I like Origins and Odyssey because I’m a big ass history dork but they’re not really assassin/stealth games. They have really basic stealth mechanics.
i hated origins because i felt it was really unpolished but odyssey was good and valhalla might be my favorite in the series behind black flag
I overlooked a lot of Origins flaws because I was a big Egyptian History fan growing up and I was just happy to finally have a game set there. Micro transactions in a single player mode
Nfts and they reuse a crap ton of assets
Reusing assets is industry standard. This ain't one of them.
I’ve never noticed a reused asset in a Ubi game but they’re literally everywhere in fromsoft games
What have they done in the last 15 years apart from re-releasing Assassins Creed reskins?
They made ghost recon games which are great coop tactical shooters and farcry and they made the division 2 good
assasin game bad
Because it's easier than actually doing something against bad companies
