…Or 23andme might sell your data to an insurance company who jacks up your life insurance rates bc of your genetics.
I’m not sure if you’re feigning ignorance but this has been proposed before https://theconversation.com/life-insurers-can-charge-more-or-decline-cover-based-on-your-genetic-test-results-new-laws-must-change-this-212183
These are the same people that re-use the same password on all websites and when their car community forum gets breached talk about how they dont care because they have nothing personal on the forum. Meanwhile, someone is draining their bank account.
I honestly hope someone would sue them for this, or at least give me a refund for my DNA.
Otherwise, is there a way to do you genetic analysis w/o worrying about these kinds of things?
Well they could sell your data to a biopharma company and make 100x the money it took to generate your data. If you don’t care about having your data monetized behind your back and people making money off of you- then you have nothing to be worried about :)
They could also sell your data to an insurance company. It’s completely legal for an insurance
company to deny you life insurance coverage if they found out you were BRCA+. But you probably don’t care, right?
Oh no someone might find out that I'm from the British isles and likely have wet earwax. I'm doomed!

We should probably read the terms and conditions.

No.
You can't delete data. Data is forever
Meh. A private equity group bought Ancestry and I’m still standing.
Do you really think that deleting your account will delete your data?
Legally they’re required to do this
Yep, but first, from past companies, we know it often doesn't happen, and two, if they already sold or leaked that data, it's gone.

Real question, what could someone do even if they have this data exzctly?
Clone you
highly doubt we will see that in our lifetimes.
Sell it to a 3rd party, monetize it without your permission, sell it to insurance companies
And then?

Whats BRCA+. Also I dont live in the USA so I doubt this will ever be an issue. Is there any way I could make money from this data👀👀
No thanks
Trash thread.
And?..... if someone wants my data that bad they'll get it regardless.....idc
