Can we stop shaming swastika because some Austrian painter wanted to use it ? And as i know, in North swastika was symbol for thundergod.

thatBOOMBOOMguy

Real talk, I've sometimes thought that swastika should have it's image cleared up and brought back. It's really shameful how a icon used nearly globally for good intentions for hundreds, if not thousands of years, and got ruined entirely by one regime and is now seen as some of the most heinous hate-symbol. While we shouldn't forget what awful things nazism ended up creating, we shouldn't it ruin icons etc, and by to some extend controlling us.

[deleted]

Hitler himself designed Nazi logo, as he was balls deep into mythology, and sanskirt. Peopel still use swastika as hate symbol, and thats why its hard to clear it up, and it also depends how deep swastika is in folklore. Before Nazis came to power, many were using it as lucky charm, as in many cultures some variants of swastika was luck goddess.

I'm not shaming it. I'm telling you, the book is cool.

As i understood this book is about folk peoms ? Here Latvian one from 1922. https://preview.redd.it/mjd7d1rgp5rc1.jpeg?width=1167&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=11d71609acb02494db0741824a2ddb14ecc08c41

Snorri Sturluson's [Edda ](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Edda)is the most complete collection of Old Norse folklore. He was a Christian monk who tried to gather as many of the old tales as possible. Even though the word "Edda" can be used to refer to any collection of Norse folklore, it usually refers to Snorri's collection.

And thanks to "[Academy of Fine Arts Vienna](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Academy_of_Fine_Arts_Vienna)" we all have lost an amazing folk symbol.

Oo_oOsdeus

Yeah and the moustache style was ruined by this one guy.. and also the hand sign with certain degrees in relation to shoulder also ruined

Accurate-System7951

Apparently Charlie Chaplin was furious about the moustache. Well, at least he made one great movie just dissing the bastard.

Did I ever claim it wasn't a translation?

ClickHereForBacardi

/uj this is an actual book from the mid-1800s, from Sweden, translating the Icelandic Eddas. Please don't upvote this post as only real ones deserve to read it.

“I have in this war a burning private grudge against that ruddy little ignoramus Adolf Hitler. Ruining, perverting, misapplying, and making for ever accursed, that noble northern spirit, a supreme contribution to Europe, which I have ever loved, and tried to present in its true light.” - J. R. R. Tolkien

Zhang_Sun

Just don’t rotate the swastika 45 degrees and you’ll be fine, most people can tell the difference

Mr_memez69

Sure it’s not only 80 years old?

Yikes, I just looked it up and turns out the "Edda" is a bit of a far right slide whistle. Might want to tread carefully with this one, pal!

DubbleBubbleS

Edda means poetry in old norse. Neo nazis trying to claim norse culture is just cringe.

Isn't that pretty much exactly what the Nazis did as well? Kind of makes sense.

I'll let them play my slide whistle 😙

PotatoFuryR

Yikes, I also just looked up the Kalevala and it seems to be associated with neo-nazis, best tread carefully!
