Most 311 albums have their share of all time great songs and a few filler songs, but as an album, From Chaos is a classic. It's got some of 311s hardest songs, but also has Amber which launched the band further into the stratosphere.
Champagne kept them riding that wave too. Although both are skips, this album is amazing. Brings me back to the summer after graduating high school, freedom, long car rides, nothing to worry about yet. I told myself brings on nostalgia hard for me.
Class of 2001 stopping in. You described this timeframe perfectly. Grabbing my two best buds and just doing whatever, wherever. Go see The Fast and the Furious because fast cars and action. Remember it was just a movie and try to not drive like that on the way home. Late night gaming. If Groundhog Day(movie) was real, just toss me into that summer and I’d never want to leave. Best times!
I loved Evolver, but I think it was the first “aggressive” shift away from the classic 311 sound for them. It was coincidentally the last of their albums that I really connected with.
I love Evolver. Its a great album! In this fans humble opinion it was the album that started to feel like a departure from their “OG” sound and is the bridge between what I would call classic and new 311. From Chaos is definitively classic, Dont Tread On Me is definitively new. Evolver lands somewhere in between.
Last OG era 311 album for sure. Also the last time both Nick & SA would lean into the duel rapping style. This album ends up sounding like a hybrid of Blue & Soundsystem. “Hostile Apostle” is underrated, super cool guitar work.
Definitely a classic. It's got a great balance between heavy and lighter tracks and it's honestly the album I'm most likely to play through without any skips.
ABSOLUTE CLASSIC STATE OF MIND. My 311 fan husband says the only thing is that it came out pretty quick after Sound System.
For me, that Album brought a whole new positive state of mind for me, new energy, for a new beginning back in was it 2001 I believe?
Classic 💯. Sonically I would have preferred a non-live recording like they did with Saint on Blue album. The production on some songs is a little ‘arena rock’ sounding to me, but that was also by design. They recorded it live to capture the vibe of the live show.
Stereolithic and Mosaic are both better. That’s not to say I don’t like From Chaos and distinctly remember buying it on release day and have some great memories listening to it that summer but it’s not as good as their work in 2014 and 2017.
It’s the last of an era, which I think marks it as a classic. Blue/ self titled went triple platinum.
Transistor; platinum.
“Amber” would prove to be the bands farthest reaching single much to heavy fans chagrin. According to Spotify, Amber has 229m plays.
The band is prolific, and capable of producing hits.
I wager there’s at least one “banger” on every album.
Definitely not gonna tell any one they are wrong for their taste.
I find it deeply intriguing that folks champion the post “from chaos” albums as more complete. It’s all in what you love and how you love it.
The very last classic IMO. Plenty of very strong tracks on this one.
I will say, recently thinking stereolithic is severely underrated and has me thinking I could be calling it a classic one day as well.
To me it’s a classic. The mood is different, that’s what makes 311 so unique. Each album has a mind of its own so to speak.
Agreed

Champagne one of my all time fav songs, always wondered why I rarely see ot mentioned here
Always loved this one, I remember the first time I heard it, I wish I could bottle that feeling (no pun intended lol)

Lol I remember we had a huge group of kids to see that movie and we all drove like assholes home
I was there !
I’m a few years behind you but o get a real sense of a youthful carefree time on life!
Great points!
I always view this a the last classic. Some great songs came after, but not necessarily great albums
Felt the same until Stereolithic. Give it another spin for front to back :)
Stereolithic really holds up. Great album
It's the dying gasp of classic 311.
Perfect wording.
Brutal! Evolver has its moments too, for me anyway
Id say Evolver is last of the classic era.
A-fucking-greed!
HEAD RUSH!
Kiss never did this, nor Ozzy Osbourne
One of my all time faves
Agreed, ain't no filler.
Last of the classics
No Evolver love?

Hostile Apostle is super underrated! I feel like people hate on it unfairly in this sub sometimes
Solar Flare is one of the best anti-war protest songs of our generation. I wish they'd continue writing more lyrics like that.
Solar Flare should've been a single.
I always loved this one, I never see anyone mention it!
Absolutely a classic, the start of a new era for the band but still up there with Transistor and Grassroots for all time faves
Filler? It’s one of their most successful albums. Some of their greatest bangers and radio hits.
Who the fuck would call From Chaos "middle of the road filler"? It's literally the last really good album they made.
definitely still classic, part of the golden era.
Classic for sure!
Absolute classic!!!
Classic

Classic
Last classic
Last good album
Definitely a classic. It's got a great balance between heavy and lighter tracks and it's honestly the album I'm most likely to play through without any skips.
In my top 3. The most metal 311 has been

Op what do you want it to be? It's how you enjoy it
Each of us define what makes an album a “classic!” Also, we all got older, less impressionable, tired, and time starved with more responsibilities!!!!
Amber is a filler song…The rest of the album is GOLD
You misspelled BEST 311 album
At this rate, a classic... especially when you consider all of the absolute dog shit they have released since then.
Stereolithic and Mosaic are both better. That’s not to say I don’t like From Chaos and distinctly remember buying it on release day and have some great memories listening to it that summer but it’s not as good as their work in 2014 and 2017.
Agreed. I prefer the production and song flow of Stereolithic and Mosaic
Track listing
Transistor in my opinion is a classic 311 album; From Chaos is sort of a middle of the road filler.
Their worst!
That's uplifter-Space Ram.
You know what…I must’ve blocked that one out. That was when I drifted away
Have you forgotten about Don’t tread on me?
Solid album
I see I’m in the minority but no.
I consider it the last classic 311 album and consider everything after it “new 311” even though some of those “new” albums are almost decades old.

Classic bitch
Sorry. It's mostly filler. Only certified classics are Music-Soundsystem, IMO.
CLASSIC! Front to back!
Top 5
i like it
A classic. If anyone says any different, they don't understand anything
Middle of the road floater. Soundsystem also comes close to this status. Anything transistor and before may be considered classic.
Classic
A classic! Love it as much as their album Music
Absolute classic!
