They're not trapped in the warp, they can come back later. Daemons can't just enter the material world whenever they want though, it requires specific circumstances like a ritual or a gate. Banishing isn't a permanent solution, but it'll usually take a while before they're able to find a way back.
Banishing is like the warp version of deportation. Hypothetically it's impossible to stop the demons from reenter real space because they can just find a loops holes like being summon or through a warp gateway but like Irl it make take significant influence, resources or be involved in some kind of contract with higher power like the soul grinder. Also it becomes "easier" to track down a rebanish fromer suspect because you already have their files and have a sense of their behavior and motivation.
all banishing does is destroying there "physical form" and they have to rebuild said "form" before coming back to the materium its why deals such as the soul grinders from the forge of souls is so enticing for them cause they can immediately come back into the materium after being banished
of course some have to go through a punishment if banished and most will be ridiculed by there peers while they are rebuilding themselves
Back to the warp to return in some determined amount of time. Sometimes large amounts of time, or sometimes with loopholes that allow them to return faster.
When a demon is killed they will be stuck in the warp for a certain amount of our time depending on how they were defeated with things like True names having a longer affect on them (the grey knights even use their prescient powers to log how long it will be until they can/will come back to help prepare for it)
Is that cannon/ in the codex?
I know in the Grey Knight Omnibus they have referred to the Emperorās Tarot as the most reliable way to determine how long a daemon will be banished for.
If I remember correctly the grey knights used their powers to calculate angrons return and prepare a ritual to perma banish him in Angron the red angel
The kiddy ball pool. Youāve got a constant fear of drowning in a bunch of colorful balls. Thereās pee and poo in random places, itās somehow too hot and the purple balls hurt you, this makes you angry and your cheeks get red, but youāre having fun in the filth. Like grandfather intended.
The Emperorās Tarot can be used to try to determine how long the Daemon would be Banished for. It would be the best guess.
Their name may be recorded in the Codicium Aeternum for future reference.

Also true death for a daemon is like just skipping the trail and jury and just shoot them on the spot.
Somewhere there is a Grayknight with a cyberhound and a shotgun, muttering something about illegal aliens.

Yeah I donāt have it on me to check but I think itās one of the roles of the Augurium to record it.
