Dude. I really dig those wheels. You’re going to love that machine. Take it in and out of low and lock up the center about once a month so that it’s there when you need it.

LukaLover42069

I do that pretty frequently! I live in a really hilly area and have a ton of places to off road so it gets out in nature a lot.

stumphead11

Do all the AWD fifth gens have a center locking diff like the 4th gens did?

Awyrn

They all have a center diff lock but don’t have multi mode like the (V6) 4th gens

Jmg0713

Yes

LukaLover42069

Did it affect the ride quality much? My lizard brain is thinking it would improve on the stiffness.

theoriginalharbinger

All else being equal, tires with more volume but the same rotating diameter and width will ride better on any unimproved surface (mostly because any displacement of air inside the tire - like, for example, rolling over a rock - will compress the larger volume of air in a larger-volume tire less than its low-profile counterpart). If you want to go offroad, get some proper 17 or 18-inch wheels. It'll ride better, but you'll also have a better selection of AT tires and, should you need to replace a tire, a much greater likelihood that someplace nearby will have what you want in stock.

I'm leaning towards 17", the first thing I do when I buy new pickup trucks is swap over to 18" . I've got 20's on my current one and it's a noticeable difference but the tires are too new to make it worth swapping yet. Wasn't sure if that was the same case with the 4Runners although it seems obvious now lol. Thanks for the input!

Na-bro

How does one lock the center diff, I have the exact same one!

GBP9

Yes, how so?

mynameistory

Limited edition trucks have full-time 4WD, which is the default drive mode (the center differential is unlocked and therefore allows the front and rear axles to turn at different rates, like AWD). The center differential is locked when you select 4HI and 4LO. Other trucks with part-time 4WD only drive the rear wheels in default mode. There is no center differential, the front driveshaft is either engaged or not.

Get some of these and some k02s and you’ll love it. https://www.extremeterrain.com/toyota-4runner-trd-graphite-wheel-17x7-4mm-ptr20-35110-gr.html

Yeah I'm thinking those in black will be great:)

Relevant_Bee_744

Did you paint those to bronze? Looks great. How?

_totalannihilation

Just make sure they're clean and use a degreaser to remove any type of oil and use gloves to avoid your hand oils. I used Acetone afterwards and then just spray painted them. Good old rust oleum. One time I didn't do proper preparation and the paint looked bubbly. These turned out ok.

Turbulent_Weather795

The best advice I got was to get load C rated tires when I bought my k02s. If you do 90% highway driving like most of us anyway you'll enjoy the ride better by a long shot. You can look up plenty of stories of people complaining how harsh the ride is when they buy 12 ply tires LOL. Also Same brakes so no issues. You'll enjoy the ride better on 17s get as big as you can fit now trust me.

clewtxt

Put replica pros on and 285s, but do like the OR wheels. Would say get them powder coated, you can usually find a good deal on takeoffs.

RepugnantPear

I swapped the 20s on my limited to OEM 17s. Looks and rides better, and the tires are also cheaper.

slammed430

I always really like when people take the stock wheels and put a better all terrain on them. Always looks better than going with a cheap aftermarket wheel option.

facepillownap

well my stance on taking G5 owners seriously sure has come to a middle.
