Rage is dope. Zack is a real one. Not much else to say.

darkduane

^ Can't argue here ^

Rob_Bligidy

The Wu-Rage concert in 97 was awesome. I’m glad I got to witness it.

darkduane

I wish I had, man.

Number16PartyCrasher

That’s the concert I regret not getting to see the most.

selekt86

Damn I gotta look this up

lizardfromsingapore

Same thanks u/Rob_bligidy for the rec

acad353

Went to that in Austin, but Wu couldn’t make it for some reason and they had a surprise replacement by The Roots!

Rob_Bligidy

I was at the Chicago show, Wu fought the radio DJ’s at the venue, and poof now headlining: Rage & Roots. I’ve seen The Roots also, they killed it, but I’m glad it was a diff venue/ scenario.

tall-glass-o-milk

Zack de la Rocha spits bars with the likes of KRS. He’s an emcee in my book. I’d say it’s more hip hop than anything else. The themes of their music def fit in with a revolutionary niche that other groups go for. They just managed to make it palatable to more people.

darkduane

Exactly 💯 nobody was doing it like they did (except Ice T, maybe) the sound, their message, Zack' lyrics and flow, and of course, the riffs of Tom Morello were and still are epic!

NYGiants181

Rage Against The Machine - Self Titled is one of the 25 greatest albums of all time IMO. Absolutely no skips. Every song is a BEAST.

bubsyboy1

I tell everyone the same thi g about thos album. It's the album where I don't skip any songs. And I know the lyrics to every so gle song also.

[deleted]

Actually them in Baltimore w/ Gangstar. Flip Ambulances in the street n shit. Awesome show

Internal_Swimmer3815

saw them in Chicago with Gangstarr at the Rosemont Horizon. Sound was trash, could barely hear them. Gurus vocals were so muddy and the bass down out the rest of the music. Such a bummer.

Garrick75

I will forever be bummed that the Zack/El-P album didn’t happen.

melskymob

*albums

Trashious

At least we got the One day as a lion ep. No El-P though.

evfauxel

Rage is amazing ! Still shocked they had mainstream success with how anti-establishment their ethos was. Lyrics were hip hop no question. “Fists in the air in the land of hypocrisy”

JustThisIsIt

People like the wiff of anti-establishment ideas. There are mechanisms in place to crush the few who act on them. Meanwhile the music industry profits.

Jack-Cremation

Freshman in high school when their first album dropped. Got damn it was so good! Played the hell out of it and have never stopped loving it.

No_Equipment8569

Legends! Also Zak made a nice colab with Run the Jewels and their cover of "How I could just kill a man" is also amazing. They don't need to be 100% hip hop to be real hip hop. Because they don't need a key to break in ;)

cidwiththreeeyes

One of my biggest influences

Other-Crew4815

FUCK YOU I WONT DO WHAT YOU TELL ME

Own_Assistant_2511

Of course. We all are!

Kinda_ShouldaSorta

I had literal front row tickets for the Beastie Boys / Rage show in Atlanta before the tour got cancelled. Forever my white whale of concerts.

CoachiusMaximus

I was supposed to catch them at Giants Stadium. Shitty seats. Still a bummer.

_packetman_

Zack de la Rocha is absolutely hiphop and a great rapper. IIRC, he's been a guest rapper with others

Due_Cut1904

🤘👊🤘

PLANTEandGrow

I actually thought of a similar question recently..I'm a huge fan of Rage. I was also a huge fan of 2 Skinney J's and the Super Mercado album. The Good, the Bad and the Skinny was a phenomenal song I would play often. https://youtu.be/iIdz4cgmOs4?feature=shared

Number16PartyCrasher

Rage is one of my top 10, Zack can spit. Lyrically he’s hard to beat, their subject matter is dead serious & Tom’s riffs make it deadly combination. Gets stuck in your head and makes you think, while you can jam to it at the same time.

Fun_Entrepreneur_355

I've been a Rage fan before hiphop. The more I dig deeper into hiphop scene, the more I can't express how much I appreciate Zack's rapping compared to these days rappers.

barweepninibong

wish we had a proper solo album from him. his shit with El-P was dope (old time rage fan since the first tape lol)

j_ha17

Saw Rage for the first time at MSG a few years ago. Zach tore his Achilles the night before and still rocked the house while sitting the entire show. Everybody there was so hyped. Best concert I've ever been too. Hands down.

BetoA2666

I was at the show in the Meadowlands where it happened. It was early in the the Rage set during a song. The RZA came out and improv'd for about 10 or 15 minutes some back and forth with the audience until Zach was bandaged up and came back out on stage.

j_ha17

That's awesome!

huncho3055

Zack is deffo a rapper but just rapping over live punk rock

[deleted]

There’s definitely hip hop in Rage and rage in hip hop!

Muhakwheimouth

Cypress Hill's earlier work. 'No more troubles at my dooooooor!'

LaidbackSounds

the only Rage i know is Lady of Rage

Elbjornbjorn

RATM is part of my foundation, I think discovering them was a huge deal for me. So yes. But no, can't say I've heard anything similar. There's lots of rap metal bands out there, but they all sound like crap to me. RATM is rap/metal/funk, and that funk part is extremely important and seems to be the magic ingredient that everyone else is missing.

MachineElf1973

Love Rage.. Zack heavy links with El-P

vegasJUX

Rage is dope. Especially their earlier stuff. Stuck Mojo is Rage-esque.

DrJiggsy

You’re right. This isn’t hip-hop.

darkduane

Oh, good, thanks for the clarification 👍 😉

Apprehensive_Week128

Rage on behalf of the machine fits better right now
