You can wait days to purchase one or leave it in your inventory and it wouldn't change the item you get. Any "tricks" are superstitions and confirmation bias. Buying cookies is essentially gambling, you just gotta hope and weigh the pros and cons of buying them
I always check the percentages and do the math to see if I have at least 50% chance of getting an item I'm really excited about with each cookie. If it ain't that I don't buy it. I would never buy any cookie that there was just one specific item I really wanted. That's a set up for disappointment.
I most often buy cookies that I'm happy to get copies of bronze items. IE I love the daisyville path so I've got a bunch of daisyville cookies. The drizzle cookie also has an amazing path at 3 stars so that's the next one on my list for my pocket camp club cookies.
Always remember it's statisically pretty common to get 3 of the same bronze item from a 5 pack. 4 is a lot but certainly not unheard of. It's part of the game. They are just loot boxes after all.
I just spent 250 on the boba one just to get the handheld boba (the most likely one) and got like 3 tables instead. The best way is probably to save up stamps to guarantee the one you want but other than that it's just getting lucky and getting 5000 bell cookies in the shop.
