My girlfriend asked what game im playing and i said afk journey and her response was "oh that borderline porn game from tiktok". I mean there is some fan service with the design of some of the characters sure but she has apparently seen some pretty crazy ads for the game. (Honestly this is the first ad ive seen for it since i normally stay off of tiktok and such)
That is kinda weird I'm on tiktok alot and the only adk journey stuff I've seen is the official account I thought all these shitty mobile style ads came from YouTube and other shitty mobile games she mightve meant that Isekai slow life game
Same. The sprite characters are much more appealing to me than HGH Chads and women with tits so huge they probably come with a scoliosis diagnosis. Screw that.
I'm in the same boat. My first gacha was Evertale... that started off okay, but as time went on it got so bad that I didn't dare open that app in public. Every time a new hero came out there was a 90% chance that their outfit would be a single strip of cloth desperately attempting to prevent the game from becoming pornographic. A little fan service is to be expected with gacha games, but a lot of them are so bad with it that they make Antandara look like she's dressed for the dead of winter in Antarctica.
I saw it, if you mean the one with Mirael and Antandra basically slapping their boobs in some random dudes face. (Guessing the random dude is supposed to be Merlin AKA us)Ā
This. Even if they donāt continue to play the game Lilith can brandish the numbers about for downloads and that sucks in sponsors, players and advertisers
Except that in modern mobile game dev, these steps are three different jobs, each with their own measurable success metrics and teams of support staff.
I know, that's not what I'm getting at. OK, like, say you gotta pay your phone bill. Do you break it down into something like:
-unlock phone
-find app
-open app
-log in to app
Etcetera etcetera.
OR, since you inherently understand that to be part of the process, do you just pay the bill? Or, maybe better example, building a car; are you gonna break it down into components, then more components, then more components deeper when you say "build a car"? Mind you, you're not a mechanic, and in fact maybe don't even know much about the damn things at all.
Now replace car with game ad and mechanic with devs
Getting those things right and wrong is the difference between a game getting positive ROI on user purchases and dying in obscurity.
Waving at the mechanic and saying ājust get it runningā is a surefire way to convince the mechanic that you donāt care about their opinion, expertise, or respect their efforts.
If these tasks were truly negligible, youād automate them. I donāt āpay the phone billā; itās done every month and no one needs to remember to do anything.
Not understanding a topic doesnāt make it sound stupid; it just means thereās more to it than might seem at first glance. Take it as a chance to expand your knowledge.
A lot of mobile games do this. It's to capture different audiences, since if you already like AFK Journey's gameplay, they probably got you to download anyway through one of their other channels. Yeah, 95% of the people will quit once they realize it's nothing like the ad, but if they can keep 5%, that's pretty good retention.
From what I have heard regarding other games like this (the biggest two I can think of are gardenscapes and royal match where the irritation was so bad they had to add game modes that matched the ads later), they pay to outsource having ads made and run, and once the service has been engaged, the game dev usually has very little input on what the ads actually end up looking like. I don't know why you'd want to pay for a service like that when it reflects poorly on your game, but I'm not on Farlight/Lilith's marketing team.
its as i expected, outsourcing. if theyre gonna outsource, at least outsource to people who give a shit about the product, case and point: [this entire fucking video](https://youtu.be/4TgPzy7Qk9w) which is the reason i started playing the damn game
They probably have something similar already developed as like a demo version and just use it for ads.
Because Afk arena does these fake ads but then they actually got the game mode like 3 years into the game. Like vampire survivors type of game
because theyāre covering all of their bases with as many variety of ads as possible, many of which obviously donāt reflect the actual game. this may not interest you, but there are definitely people who this type of ad caters to that leads them to downloading the game. getting those people to download and then hoping they stick around anyway
I know that, but they still pay that 3rd company, therefore they are still involved.
Again, why would they pay for that shit? If anything it makes the game look bad. If i were the owner of the game Iād feel like they are damaging the reputation of my game.
As a player it also makes me think this game is not up to standards.
They contract out advertising companies to make ads for their games. All the Chinese owned game studios seem to contract the same company that makes this garbage
The dev company that made afk journey is also creator of rise of kingdoms and other games. Most their ads are weird and not showing actual gameplay. I think they follow some kind of strategy to advertise the game wrong. Even though the game isnt bad gameplay and design wise, i do not know why they would make it look diff or worse.
The biggest issue is this ad targets a different audience for the game. I love AFK Journey and have even spent some money in it, however, if I didn't know about it and saw this ad, I would not want to play the game portrayed here, so they would lose a potential client. Conversely, someone that sees this and want the action combat game will be pissed and not keep playing. The ad company probably has download goals to earn more money, so they'll say they got their job done, but now you have a lot of inactive accounts bloating servers and the game feels dead for those active. So the publisher spends money to generate downloads, but they'll get less money per user and even tarnish their brand as a result.
No idea, deceptive ads like this are always so pathetic to me - it screams a lack of confidence in your actual product. Had I not already played and liked the game, an ad like this wouldāve made me completely ignore the game purely on principle.
They all do this I don't understand... at least this one shows it's own characters lol. I've seen a couple of ads for applications and they use Hero of Tsushima gameplay... shameless šš
Whale hunting. The goal is to capture players who would never normally download your game and hoping a small percentage of them enjoy the loop enough to stick around and spend.Ā
The disingenuous part though is that the portions shown in the editing have to be available in the game somewhere, which is why Evony, a kingdom building game has a small number of puzzles and the horde shooter mini-games added in to match their ads. This could be argued in court to be false advertising as no gameplay equivalent exists in game.Ā
Why? Because the vast majority of mobile app games are created by predatory Asian companies.
The point of the wildly inaccurate adds is to carpet bomb the internet with random filth in hopes to fish a larger market.
It all starts with the download. Canāt make any money if you donāt have enough downloads.
You know what--Yeah! Why do they do this?
The Addiction scientists on the company's Research & Development payroll must've discovered showing people a top down shooter version of AFK Journey somehow brings more people to download the game, Ƨause why else do this
Arenāt these ads like borderline AI generated nowadays where they are cobbled together based on like, statistics gathered by most views and clicks?
Seriously super annoying.
Its not even a proper mobile game trailer.
Where is the showing of 5 different kinds of game it ain't? The fake demo? Where is the overexagerated progression? Or the supposed player appearing completely braindead and incapable of even simple 4 is great than 3 math?
This is neither crappy enough to hate, outlandish enough to remember or believable enough to take serious. You probably would have just as much as many people clicking through if you showed a video of dangling key chains being shaken.
this is insane instead of making entire new games to show on their ads maybe spend that time making their game have new content. god dam lilith. seeing shit like this makes me want to quit
damn l didnt know Rowan has AK47 in his bag
Dude had it hiding in his cart
What about that rocket launcher
Getting your hands on a magic bag is not an issue for the rich it seems.
It's got to be a bag of holding
Bag of holding out on his buddy the magister.
Thats his ascension also comes with a Napalm arialstrike as Ultimate.
He alludes to it though....."Gifts for all my customers" Who knew most people in Esperia also wore pumped up kicks?
Rowan's gun should shoot ducks
Secretly an arms dealer. That's how he keeps a leg up on his competition.
disappointing ad, where is the mandatory huge tit princess they save at the end of the run?
mandatory huge tit ~~princess~~ donkey
If Shrek taught me anything, it's the dragons with big tits. Donkey is just hung.
Could be a princess donkey you don't know š¤£
What rowan ascension gets me the gun. Whales get everything I stg.
Rowan +20 hidden upgrade
Can't even tell people I like this game with this clownery
My girlfriend asked what game im playing and i said afk journey and her response was "oh that borderline porn game from tiktok". Could be, she might of just remembered afk journey name but remembered the Isekai slow life ads
Probably, those ones can get pretty wild
Odd, I got into afkj because it was one of the LEAST fan-service-y gacha games I've seen That and I don't like anime aesthetics
Same. The sprite characters are much more appealing to me than HGH Chads and women with tits so huge they probably come with a scoliosis diagnosis. Screw that.

My thoughts exactly
FR, this game is good, but the ads are literally up there as the worst. Why can't these companies just simply use their own animations for the ads?
Are these even official ads at this point or just ads made by competitors to make the game look so terrible no one would want to install it?
I genuinely donāt understand, its 10x harder to create that type of fake ad than to just record bits of gameplay. I genuinely dont get it
They want players who wouldn't knowingly download an autobattler if they knew what the gameplay actually was. Step 1 is to get them in the app.
This. Even if they donāt continue to play the game Lilith can brandish the numbers about for downloads and that sucks in sponsors, players and advertisers
step 1 is to get them to the store page. step 2 is to get them to click "get". step 3 is to get them to open the app. There are a lot of steps.
If you break down walking into tiny steps like that it also sounds pretty stupid
Except that in modern mobile game dev, these steps are three different jobs, each with their own measurable success metrics and teams of support staff.
I know, that's not what I'm getting at. OK, like, say you gotta pay your phone bill. Do you break it down into something like: -unlock phone -find app -open app -log in to app Etcetera etcetera. God damn, dude, it was just a comment

make the game looks terrible? this ad is better than the game lol

Not only it's false advertisment, it's also bad advertisment, cause I would definitely not play this game.
You weren't the target audience
false advertisment are common in mobile games
That rollspam... AFK Souls?
Maybe in the future who knows XD
Potions for sale! *\*pulls a bazooka*
This is such a funny comment without the context of the post š
LMFAO
Every coin was wisely spent!
this's very bad idea to play running rpg on vertical screen like this. Sorry for your bad ads, but also i would not play any game like this personally
It's a bad idea to play anything not turn-based on a touchscreen.
Nah, you may not be into FPS, but COD Mobile is pretty fun and well-made for a smartphone game (at least it was when I played back in 2020)
I actually quite like FPS, hence why playing them on a touchscreen is a complete nightmare imo.
Rowan exclusive weapon:
It could be worse, this ad actually includes some assets from the game, not all mobile game ads do.
Its ACTION Journey
Rowan prolly thought it's easier to reload the gun rather than use his staff
Dang, Rowan's cart got some good stuff huh? Will his ascension upgrades his cart to a Hilux with machine gun mounted lol
dunno, feel like i saw that sort of ads for many different gacha games, only a few companies don't do that sadly.
They probably have something similar already developed as like a demo version and just use it for ads. Because Afk arena does these fake ads but then they actually got the game mode like 3 years into the game. Like vampire survivors type of game
Rowan keeps that thang on him.
"I'm a healer but..."
My man Rowan is American š¤£š¦ š¦ š¦
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
I genuinely donāt see how this garbage would work, and Iāve seen worse ads for this game
because theyāre covering all of their bases with as many variety of ads as possible, many of which obviously donāt reflect the actual game. this may not interest you, but there are definitely people who this type of ad caters to that leads them to downloading the game. getting those people to download and then hoping they stick around anyway
Downloads help get investors and such
It's so weird to see Rowan like this š
This honestly makes me want to quit the game altogether. Scumbag company.
Same man, i feel disrespected with this kind of shit
Literally 1989
ah... the mobile gaming landscape. i never understood how they don't get sued for fake ads. what a dumpster fire mobile games are...
That's crazy coz rhe game itself isn't even that bad
I've seen so much worse. Unfortunately this is the cesspool of mobile game ads.
100% actual footage
Because the gaming industry lacks regulation so companies can straight up lie and nothing happens
Rowan is like : DEMOCRACY ! FREEDOM ! FUCK YEAH
Show me ONE gameplay-accurate mobile game ad. Just one.
This is a scam! Thereās no way we get up those ladders that fast!š¤£
"they" don't. It's a 3rd party ad company
I know that, but they still pay that 3rd company, therefore they are still involved. Again, why would they pay for that shit? If anything it makes the game look bad. If i were the owner of the game Iād feel like they are damaging the reputation of my game. As a player it also makes me think this game is not up to standards.
Or as others have said. Just add the game modes. I didn't play. But I heard that's what they did for AFK arena
Rowan with a glock, he roamin' 'round da block. In his shop, like a cop, he hopes to pop, to stop an opp.
AFKJ if it was good

Rowan, my boy, the streets have changed you ššš
what paragon ascension does to a mf
Fake ad just like this is how I started playing summoners war years ago
I would play AFK Gunner in a heartbeat. Sign me up!
I absolutely despise the ads they make, I canāt tell anyone I play because of them š
Should be a duck gun that shoots shit out of its ass.
Wait how do you play as a different avatar?
Thats your only question after watching that video? š
Yeah? I wanna play as a character not my avatar
Its a fake ad for a reason, you canāt play as a character, or shoot an AR for that matter lol, what u can do is swap the characters that follow you
Dang, so couldnāt we sue them for false advertising?
Give Rowan a gun! Let Rowan say fuck!
Who gave him a gun
They all do this I don't understand... at least this one shows it's own characters lol. I've seen a couple of ads for applications and they use Hero of Tsushima gameplay... shameless šš
Dude really trying to sale those potions
Next they gotta have Rowan in one of those "Age of Z" run-through-gates-to-add-and-subtract-shooters games, would play.
Whale hunting. Just means nothing without retention
The goal is to get people, not necessarily get people in an honest and truthful manner.
You know what--Yeah! Why do they do this? The Addiction scientists on the company's Research & Development payroll must've discovered showing people a top down shooter version of AFK Journey somehow brings more people to download the game, Ƨause why else do this
I hate when games lie to you to try and get you to download them!
Imagine if Rowan actually fought like this, lmao
Lmao
Wow, incoming new game mode
AfK Journey? It's Dark Souls 4 ..
So unrealistic.... That ladder climbing animation would take at least 30 seconds in-game
I miss Dragalia Lost
not him yelling potions for sale as he decimates the enemies
At least they got the "AK" part of "AFK"
Anybody know when this whole fake ads thing started? Not just for this game I mean
doesn't this happen when they outsource marketing?
Damn, I wanna play that game.
they're sooo desperate omfg
I wish the game played like this
Arenāt these ads like borderline AI generated nowadays where they are cobbled together based on like, statistics gathered by most views and clicks? Seriously super annoying.
Would be a better game fr fr
Nothing, absolutely NOTHING in AFK Journey is like this... Rowan is awesome, but there is zero gameplay that is like this... stupid ad is clickbait.
Should trigger an instant boycott.
Did someone kill Bradduck and made him go into Wick mode?
That actually looks like a better version of the game lol
Because you are talking about it and promoting it
Wow this makes me want to not play it. What the hell.
I quit playing a while ago :(
Its not even a proper mobile game trailer. Where is the showing of 5 different kinds of game it ain't? The fake demo? Where is the overexagerated progression?
