Why can't you use a bleach alternative spray? This feels like an easy one to solve.

collisionblue

I really like the bleach spray, it works so well. What are some good alternatives?

rginsf

Clorox has a bleach free alternative. Also if the issue is for example that you want something to clean grout and make it white, you can use a powder like Barkeeper's Friend or use a baking soda paste.

Thank you for the recommendations.

I will NEVER use bleach again after finding Moldex. It’s bactericide, virucide, fungicide, mildewstat, and deodorizer that I’ve used since I was pregnant to clean my whole house, including getting anything out of clothing. It smells faintly, but like *clean*, and we almost never get sick. It’ll take the smell of smoke out of the air and/or the walls, fabrics, literally everything. It kills everything, including COVID, and honestly, it doesn’t irritate my super sensitive skin if I clean without gloves. Stuff is amazing. I literally always have at least 3 bottles around my house, and I’ve turned in my entire family and friend group to it. Everyone loves it. I get it at Menard’s, but it’s available online, too. You won’t regret it. Part of the reason you’re stuck on bleach is that the smell of it triggers your body into thinking ‘I smell this, so it’s clean’. It’s a psychological response to a stimulus you’ve conditioned yourself to. Moldex works 10x better, and won’t irritate your husband. And can be used as a spray for stains on fabrics. I have 3 dogs, and a 7yo. My house doesn’t smell like dogs (according to anyone who visits), and my walls, floors, and counters are always spotless. I inherited this house from my grandparents, who smoked like chimneys. I used it to clean the house floor to ceiling before I moved in, including running it in my carpet cleaner. Not a trace of smoke anywhere.

Thank you!! I will look into that.

I sound like an ad for it, but I swear, it made my life so much easier. I can clean and disinfect everything with one product. Safe for use in industrial/commercial settings (like hospitals, kitchens, etc), I can use it to clean my walls, toilet, tub, sink, ceramic kitchen floor, vinyl, wood floors, kitchen counters, microwave, fridge, baseboards, clothing stains, shoes, toys, dog beds, blankets, washing machine, dishwasher, windows/mirrors…and it’s an amazing deodorizer. I spray my whole house a few times a week, and once I stop smelling the faint chemical smell, I spray febreeze, and the scent lasts way longer than just febreeze alone. Now I don’t have 13 different cleaners for different things. I have a swiffer, a swiffer duster, a mop, and a bottle of Moldex in the bathroom, kitchen, and one for the house. Also mixed my own laundry soap/stain remover from 1/2c Moldex, 1/2c laundry powder (the gentle kind for lingerie), and 1c water. Mix together, and use in my washing. Only thing it doesn’t remove is ink, but ink requires alcohol, and there isn’t any in Moldex. The cleaning ingredient is alkali-9.

I am physically sensitive to chlorine bleach, it is not the smell, it is the chemicals that make chlorine that affect my lungs so I cannot breathe. It is the calcium hypochlorite that does it. If he is sensitive in this way, YTA. An alternative to chlorine bleach is an oxygen based bleach. Think Oxy Clean or 7th Generation chlorine free bleach products. They are hydrogen peroxide based instead of chlorine and work just as well.

Is chlorine bleach what's in those sprays? And thanks for the recommendations.

You’d have to check the labels, but I am going to say yes if it has the distinctive bleach smell to them.

If there are other acceptable cleaning products, I think you should try using those. Or he should take responsibility for doing that cleaning himself.
