My laptop does the similar stuff, fan behavior on it is terrible and useless. i don't know how engineers at Asus can fuck shit up so bad.

I don't think my next laptop will be from Asus, since they can't seem to make functional software. Important control software that's only available on Windows, but breaks when features included with Windows for *years* are enabled. I don't even mind the fact that the software breaks itself every now and then. I just want fan control. An option to pin fans to 100% in the UEFI would be better than the current overheating mess.

Im feeling the same, i'd be running to them if they offered me a refund.

My laptop is three years old, but Armoury Crate devolves faster than the laptop ages. What am I supposed to do when the fans don't spin up when the laptop is boiling hot? Yesterday the Vega 8 iGPU literally hit 100°C during a compute workload and the fans did not ramp to max.

kelvin_bot

100°C is equivalent to 212°F, which is 373K. --- ^(I'm a bot that converts temperature between two units humans can understand, then convert it to Kelvin for bots and physicists to understand)

Damn that's pretty bad.. You mentioned about how armoury crate shows temps as 0 degree, have you tried running windows 10? Try a dualboot so you keep your win11 along with 10. Install 10, install all the drivers from asus website, install armoury crate and see how it is. If its the same, there isnt much to do. Theres also fan diagnostic tool in myasus app but that's also kind of crazy so dont know if we can trust it.

10 without the virtualization features would work, as would 11. However I need and regularly use virtualization, which breaks temperature reporting in Armoury Crate. Temperature is correctly reported in MSI Afterburner and other software of that sort. I've looked extensively for third party fan control on Windows, but haven't found anything that works.

Yeah thats pretty bad. There isnt any fan control app on tuf laptops which is pretty idiotic.

Go into your power settings and change the CPU and gpu performance while plugged in. I have the same model and I find armoury crate does a poor job when it comes to performance management. Try downloading adrenaline (and uninstall armoury crate).

styzyx

Also, if you've never cleaned your fans they tend to collect dust and clog the rotor space. You can clean them yourself. Just make sure you unplug your battery when you're messing with the motherboard(and stay grounded).

Koder1337

I regularly clean my fans. They ramp up when initially applying the Turbo profile and then ramp down and stay there.

styzyx

I think its your power management then. I personally find windows+adrenaline works best for power management. Uninstall armoury, go with adrenaline.

Koder1337

I do that from time to time when I get too annoyed with Armoury Crate profiles, but even then the fans don't really stay on maximum for very long. It would have been nice to be able to control the fans manually.

Is your discrete gpu set as the primary? With gaming, I've found setting the gpu to high performance by individual application (in Windows graphics settings) leads to better overall performance.

Koder1337

Yes, I am using my dGPU. My problem isn't with performance, but a lack of fan control and the included fan control being bad (too slow, builds up heat on idle).

styzyx

One last comment. You can pull the fan apart, but don't pull too hard or else the blades will or center mounting piece might break. Try and apply an even pressure when disassembling. If you have a pressurized air source no need to disassemble fan just blow.

styzyx

Maybe your fan motors are fried. I replaced mine after 2 years(2019->2021),similar problem. https://www.amazon.ca/gp/aw/d/B08Y68VK35/ref=ya_aw_od_pi?ie=UTF8&psc=1

They are not; they work just fine in Linux. I literally only need manual fan control - my laptop is physically FINE.
