Generally speaking pretty much every fiber install should be the BGW320 which is wifi 6. It doesn't matter if it is 300 or 5000, ATT wants to get away from installing standalone ONTs which is the setup that would be an older gateway model. Keep in mind the 320 requires running a fiber line into the home to where it will be located.

I got my 1GB service 12/1/22 & didn't consider that it might not be Wifi 6. I actually almost didn't do it because I wanted to connect my good (Wifi 5) router to their supplied device prior to learning they won't allow it. Not at all relevant, sorry. AT&T ran new fiber to my apt. (from a nearby pole) free of charge & hooked up a new BGW320, so unless something has changed, I'd think you'll be fine. I assume they'd be able to tell you exactly which modem/router would be provided, or I'd at least call and ask? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

You can use your own router in IP-Passthrough mode or using an unofficial bypass method. I wouldn’t use a WiFi 5 router over the BGW320 though.

Couple months ago AT&T sent me a BGW320 to replace the old 210. I installed it but I really wanted the fiber sfp so I made a service call and just said the speeds are not great. The tech came change the ONT and the wall has fiber port to SFP on back of tht BGW320 and the wifi speed is fast around 680.

You will definitely get the Wi-Fi 6 Modem with AT&T fiber. I'm hoping AT&T will come through with a 6E version or Wi-Fi 7 as it would be nice to have the new 6GHz spectrum. I have mine set up as a bridge to a Wi-Fi 6E System.

Yeah, Xfinity is starting to give 6E routers to new customers who are on gig speed download plans. Maybe that will push ATT to do the same. Can't imagine how bad the service and innovation would be for either of these companies if they didn't at least have each other to compete with in a lot of locations.

I believe Xfinity is going to start sending out Wi-Fi 7 modems now for their gig services.

The BGW320 is standard for all fiber installs and is a WIFI6 RG. The only time a standalone ONT and a model 210 RG (not WiFi6) will be installed is if they cannot get fiber all the way into the home where the RG will be placed.
