been a cardinals fan since i was 3 in 09. first football game i ever watched was the super bowl and i fell in love with the legend that is larry. ive watched every game since i was 5 with the exception of last week and a few weeks in 2018. a lot of our 8-8 years especially 2011 felt worse than 8-8. if i remember right we started 2011 3-8 then finished strong when it was too late. then our good seasons like 2021 we start strong and then disappoint. compared to so,e of the older fans that have been fans since the 70s or 80s weve definitely been spoiled but ifnwe compare ourselves even to like panther fans or texans fans we really havent been. and lowkey bein mid is worse than bein bad. at least when ur bad u get guys u can be excited about in the draft but when we're just consistently 8-8 its like a never ending cycle. then we'll have 1 or 2 really good years before more mid then 1-2 really bad years. we suck. bad

Since 2000 we have more playoff wins than "America's Team" the Cowboys. And we beat them like 7 out of the last 8. When I watch cowboys fans in the media they show a lot more support and always have a positive attitude... "This is the year." Had season tickets from 2005-2007 than moved away. I think every game this season was fun to watch till the 4th quarter. I would agree being a cardinals fan has not been so bad in the last 20 years. Could be worst. I also think we are in the toughest division. Sf constantly makes it to super bowls. Rams recently won. Seahawks are always steady. I think if they would have won in 2008/9 people would view the Cardinals A LOT differently. However commercials are featuring cardinals merch a lot more recently and sales of merch is increasing. The cardinals are a likable team and fan base is growing. So yeah I agree we had good times and more good times will come and I wish the media would stop hating on the cards so much.

I've been a fan since the 1970s and being a Cardinals fan is not easy. During their time in St. Louis (1960-1987) they only had really two good runs, the mid-1970s when Don Coryell was head coach (two NFC East championships), and then a run in the early 1980s with former Coryell assistant Jim Hannifan as HC (three winning seasons in a row and a playoff appearance). Even the Chicago Cardinals (1920-1959) were mostly bad. We got a glimmer of hope in 1998 when the Cardinals sneaked into the playoffs and upset the Cowboys in the playoffs, but then it was back to the historic norm of mostly bad teams. Only the Lions have had more futility in the Super Bowl era.

Right there with you !! Basically my entire youth was BAD Football... the 74-75 Cardinals were when i started, but then it went off the cliff... 84 gave us a glimmer... but we couldnt make that FG to beat the Redskins... Then it was awful until 1988... and Lomax got hurt... Then we basically we atrocious until the fluky 1998 season... Then we went a decade until our dream season... So Basically being a Cardinal fan is this... We have a good season, then generally have to wait 7 or so years for another one.. The Bruce Arians era was without question our gold standard.

Been a dan since the mid 70s, myself. Been a long and bumpy ride.

I am in the same boat. I moved to the US when I started highschool around the time Leinart got drafted. I was in Tucson so I choose the Cardinals as my team but I had an understanding that they were a terrible franchise so the year they went to the Super Bowl was magical and we all wish it had a better ending. My favorite era was the Palmer/Arians era. That has been the best team we had on both sides of the ball. Injuries ruined our chances along with special teams but that was the only time as a fan that I felt good about beating any team. I hope Monti and the gang truly make us into a more consistent franchise. I hope a fire was lit under Kyler during his downtime and he come backs with a vengeance.

I've been going to the cards games since 91. I never thought I'd hear about a spoiled Cardinals fan. But you have a really good point. I try to explain to people that this team is completely different than what it was under Bill bidwil. In fact, since Mike took over, he has done a decent job. A few division championships, 2 trips to the NFC title game, superbowl trip, multiple hall of famers we drafted. But then.... these last few years have seemed rather dysfunctional. With the addition of cultural issues coming to light, I'm starting to worry that we are on our way to 1991 Cardinals again.

KingKwam

realistically mike has sucked too js not as bad as bill. if we had mat ishbia we'd have 7 super bowls

thewhalehunters

Perhaps. I'd like to see ishbia win 1 trophy before crowning him

KingKwam

i say what i say because weve gotten so close with incompetent owners and clewrly ishbia is far from incompetent

space_llama_karma

I really like what Monti has been able to do so far, and Gannon has the team really competitive and playing hard, in a way that Kliff was unable to do. I can't wait to see what happens in year 2 when the team gets built up through the draft.

We should’ve won the Super Bowl in 2015. And with a few critical moments going a different way in 2016 could’ve given us a chance to make another deep playoff run and defend that title. One single botched special teams play costed us the games against the Seahawks, Patriots and Rams. If they go the other way, we win the division. 2017 was one of the best squads we’ve ever had, but it was the most injury ridden season in recent memory. By the end of the season, no starters at the beginning of the season, aside from Larry, Jaron Brown, DJ Humphries, Frostee Rucker, and Patrick Peterson were still standing. Huge missed opportunity. That regime was magical. It’s part of the reason why losing now is so painful. 2021 was another great opportunity, but were a bit of a glass cannon. We missed our shot. The future looks bright though. We will be back in no time.

I agreed with everything until you got to 2021. We went 2 - 4 following our bye. I expected nothing out of those playoffs.

GandalfTheSilverFox

Why do you think the Cardinals should have won the Super Bowl in 2015? I remember the Reddit roast of the Cardinals going into the next season was absolutely ruthless and super fucked up. “Gabbie Giffords head had more stopping power than the Cardinals did in the NFC Championship.” But it’s the only thing I remember about that game. The Panthers scored a bunch. Edit: Im not trying to argue. I just don’t remember much of the game, let alone why the Cards should have beaten the Broncos. Sounds like Carson Palmer banged his finger on a helmet in week 16 which affected how he played the rest of the season. Sounds like what you’re saying is that if Palmer never hurt his finger, the Cards would have won the Super Bowl.

our defense was actually really solid in the first half. forced a turnover and a couple newton mistakes and got some stops. aside from the deep score to philly brown they were good. it was the 2nd half when carolina really ran away with it and that was because we couldn't get ahy momentum offensively. i remember peterson picked newton with a little under 2 minutes to go in the first half then palmer threw it right back with a chance to cut the lead to just 10 going to the break. palmer also got strip sacked earlier in the half and woukd throw 3 picks in the 2nd half including a pick 6. we just couldnt hold onto the ball. our defense got tired and demoralized and the panthers built momentum qnd won. palmer really sucked in big moments and that was on top of already struggling with picks in normal moments. i mean we destroyed green bay 38-8 then 3 weeks later damn near lose and lowkey prolly shoukd have and woukd have if a couple key calls didnt go our way. i dont remember if palmer hurt his finger or not but he struggled in the playoffs even before coming to arizona. he didnt get his first playoff win until the divisional game vs green bay. if he really did fuck up his finger tho then that could have made a huge difference in the 5 turnovers we had that game. realistically if arizona gets to the super bowl that year i think they win. they had veterans with super bowl and playoff experience unlike the panthers and had a more complete team than carolina

Regular-Suit3018

You summed up the entire season by looking only at one fluke game that was unlike any game they’d played that year, which is dumb. #1 offense and #1 defense for 8 weeks, and the defense dipped into #3 for some bits. When healthy, they looked the best team, and something as stupid as a finger injury derailed it.

170poundgorilla

Palmers thumb injury killed that team. He wasnt even close to being the same player after it.

SarlaccJohansson

The Panthers were a colossal failure in the SB, the cardinals would have played better than that.

a_wildcat_did_growl

Maybe, but we had to go through the Panthers to get there and our weak OL + Palmer being a pocket QB plus the Panthers' strength being their front 7 was a recipe for disaster. Also, Palmer's thumb injury. Just wasn't meant to be, oh well.

KingKwam

our ol was really good that year with sendlein veldheer and iupati. palmer just had a tendency to get strip sacked after holding onto the ball too long
