HSA is a pre tax retirement account that can also be used as a debit card for qualified medical expenses. You can only contribute like 3600 as a single person but it’s the best retirement account imo because you can use it for a rainy day on medical expenses w no penalty.
Haha I definitely sound corny 😂 I’m just too excited, grew up poor, barely graduated college by the skin of my teeth, worked low paying jobs bc liberal arts degree & bad GPA, so yeah I did dream of this 😅
If you would’ve asked me as a kid what I wanted to be when I grew up, I would’ve said Walmart cashier 💀💀
With their $20,000 pay bump, that's 1,111 pies at $18/pie. That's 92.6 pies/month, which equates to 24.3 slices per day assuming an 8-slice pie. You could feed a family of 4 for a full day off of that, assuming 2 slices per person per meal, for 3 meals/day.
Congrats OP!
Nothing wrong with celebrating and being excited. It's a great feeling and validates all of your hard work getting to this point.
Just don't wear the rose colored glasses too long. When I first joined a B4 in audit, I thought it was going to be my dream job, but turned out to be the exact opposite. I wanted to quit a couple of months later. I ended up staying 5.5 years after switching to a different LoS. With that said everyone has different experiences (especially in B4 and PA in general) and goals in life so keep going forward pursuing yours.
I totally agree with you! It’s not necessarily my dream job, I just meant my dream firm bc I’m in a small town and this is the biggest firm with the best pay. They rejected me once in the past but now I got in so I’m excited about the pay bump, especially coming from a crappy firm! I only plan on being in PA a few years then leaving to industry 🤗
I did. Worked in consulting for a few years. Only so much of that I could take. Whether it was clients' unrealistic demands or deadlines, to being overworked so your utilization stays high, to a non-existent personal life.
It’ll be the same as everyone else in this sub haha. I’ve already worked in PA so I know the misery is coming soon, I’m just excited for the much needed pay bump 🤪
That’s when you get into corporate…most fresh accountants start in firms but some start at industry level too…many go to firms to learn the basics of how the corporate world works..since you go into audit…you learn how different finance functions in different companies work….and then when you make the jump to corporate (pays a lot better) there’s less of a learning curve for you. 🤝
when you say "shaking" are you sitting there doing that Beavis thing? Or are you just saying "shaking" in the "it's cool to shake" in these times sense?
Like are you actually shaking or like rocking back and forth like someone with brain damage?

I havent done that in years. Kids use all my money!
What's the benefit of HSAs tbh?

Wait a second so if I spend 2k USD on surgery right now when I am 65 are you telling me I can give them the receipt and pull out the 2k?
A little trick, when possible, pay things with your credit card, accrue bonus points, then reimburse yourself from the HSA.
Tax deferred until retirement like a traditional IRA or you can use it for medical expenses (pre tax.)

But only available if you take a high deductable health insurance plan, no?
Plus what you don’t use, carried over into next year.
*Dream* PA job lol “Hey Billy what do you want to be when you grow up?”

Can't argue against that positive vibe!
Paying too much for your za, friend
The PA firm paid him in free housing by working him 80 hours a week and guilt tripped him into staying until 3pm the next day.
Happy for you dude. Major accomplishment!
💪🏾🙌🏾 good work!
That’s the true achievement.
It's never to late to chase your dreams. https://careers.walmart.com/

Sorry to piggyback off this, but when you switched your LoS, did you apply internally or move to another Big 4?
I transferred internally. I don't think a lot of people realize that (or just don't care to) and just leave for another B4 LoS.
Move to consulting ヾ(⌐■_■)ノ♪
I did. Worked in consulting for a few years. Only so much of that I could take. Whether it was clients' unrealistic demands or deadlines, to being overworked so your utilization stays high, to a non-existent personal life.
Enjoy the moment! But PA can really be a stepping stone. Dream big
Yes, I agree! I’ve worked in PA just under 2 yrs so far, and might only stay until senior level. Cushy industry role is the goal 😎
Looking forward to the follow up post in 18months
It’ll be the same as everyone else in this sub haha. I’ve already worked in PA so I know the misery is coming soon, I’m just excited for the much needed pay bump 🤪
Is PA public accounting?…also congrats! That first job always feels special! Happy for you!! 🙂
Yes, public accounting! Thank you!! It’s not my first job, I was at a different firm and severely underpaid. The pay bump feels special though 😃
What’s industry?

Ok I see
Why would they reject you when you passed your exams already?
I was rejected from industry positions, likely because I don’t have much experience, just shy of 2 yrs.
when you say "shaking" are you sitting there doing that Beavis thing? Or are you just saying "shaking" in the "it's cool to shake" in these times sense? Like are you actually shaking or like rocking back and forth like someone with brain damage?
Congratulations!!!
Thank you!!!
Congratulations on both accomplishments!
Thank you!!! 🙌🏼
