the speed of the ram is simply the fastest it can run . so yes you can .

Unlikely-Meringue481

Actually, its recommended, especially if you are mixing memory sticks.

eleven357

Yes it’ll just run slower

Unlikely-Meringue481

If you want to save you could buy from aliexpress, I year ago bough 2x16gb 3200mhz ram sticks, no problems so far. I spent less than 400real for both of them. I use my laptop for arround 10 hours a day .

matfavero

to pensando nesse upgrade, fiz 2x8 uns anos atrás mas já to sentindo o engasgo com vídeo/navegador+jogo

Unlikely-Meringue481

Não sei te falar se vai ver diferença, eu sai dos 8 para os 32 eu vi uma diferença grande.

SystemErrorMessage

can see its running at the speeds you bought, so if it supports faster ram you should go for it. Have you run memtest on it yet?

Unlikely-Meringue481

Actually, RAM speed is limited by my CPU, the Ryzen 5800H. To achieve higher speeds than that, only laptops with soldered RAM can do so and from what I know there no so-dim(laptop ram sticks) rams faster than 3200mhz. there are some BIOS hacks, but I’m not a fan of those. I just ran memtest, and it passed.

MixSuspicious2846

On this topic how much ram can I install. I have 32 gigs (2 16gb) can I do 64?

custard_mustard

Depends on the laptop, check on google on how high is the supported ram size for your laptop

SystemErrorMessage

yes, it will support a lot up to a point. Some high capacity ram have wierd things that not all boards support. This is down to how many "dimms". since laptops only have 2 sockets so thats not an issue but 4 socket boards with 2 channels might need to check first as 2 sided sodimm can sometimes count as 2 dimms.

Mxplorer85

It's interesting that I bought those same ram sticks last week, 2x16GB Fairy Impact 3200. Makes my laptop crash. Nitro 5 AN515-45. They work flawless in my old Dell 7567, which doesn't make sense :D

Unlikely-Meringue481

I have the same model, I also bought 2X16gb ram sticks but form Aliexpress thay are made by crucial or I think so. No problems so far.

Black_Hazard_YABEI

of course, it just makes the ram downclocks to the maximum supported speed

Ok_Owl5390

You can but it'll settle to the max supported by your laptop // motherboard

Illustrious-Bear5822

you can..... but it would be a waste of money since your laptop would just run the maximum speed it supports

SystemErrorMessage

it really wont, a lot of time the ram sticks are the same price or only a bit more, and you may be end up scavenging it to another system.

Illustrious-Bear5822

i mean yes it won't matter if he installs a larger RAM but it is f*cking useless 😂 but if he has money to spare just to feel satisfied that he bought a RAM that his laptop doesn't support then.... i say let him 😂

SystemErrorMessage

where i am the price of ram is the same regardless of speed so i go for the fastest ram. For example value ram might be only a bit cheaper than say kingston hyper x sodimm sticks which has xmp3 profiles and cost only a tiny bit more so might as well. Ontop of that i get better ram because value sticks sometimes arrive DOA more often. return process here where amazon doesnt go isnt as good.

SystemErrorMessage

yes, really helps with AI and compute, if ddr5 grab some heatsinks.
