I agree with Dawgy66, I work in HR/Payroll and there are a lot of steps to getting someone hired depending on the organization. Just to work out and get the salary offer approved can take a few days. Also, they may still be conducting interviews. I wouldn’t worry about coming off as desperate. When I’ve filled positions as a supervisor, probably the single most attractive quality a candidate can have is showing a genuine interest in the job. I want someone who is excited about the opportunity and I look for that in their cover letter and their demeanor. Good luck!!
It's possible they haven't decided yet. I'd give them another day or two thrn call and ask about the job.

Not at all, it shows then that you're interested in the job. Most companies won't call you and tell you if you didn't get the job
