>What should I do? *"We're not having a funeral; she's just being cremated."*

The-peeepo

"I haven't received the funeral information just yet, but when I do I will let you know" when my grandma passed, it took about a month for her funeral after we got her cremated.

I don’t necessarily agree with the other comments. You told work that she died, and they told you to take the day off. I personally think it’s weird that they are asking for the funeral arrangements the day she supposedly died. If I were you, I would just say the funeral hasn’t been arranged yet, and then I would ask why they want to know her name. Either that or just not acknowledge it. Also, what’s your job? A little context on what kinda employer you have would be useful.

Pleasant_Potato1574

It is a corporate job with flexible time off.

Nah. Figure this out on your own. Telling people someone you love died when they absolutely have not is a dick move. It's up there with lying about a serious illness, IMO.

Pleasant_Potato1574

I agree it was wrong. I stated that clearly. I feel horrible. This is an advice page.

Then tell them the truth, and deal with the consequences.

Why didn’t you just tell your boss that you didn’t feel well? That’s the truth. This is a good lesson, though. You’re very young, and you made some mistakes. It’ll work ok in time. I hope you get to spend some time with your grandmother before she passes.

jelly_dove

Just say there’s no funeral and she’s being cremated right away.

beccaj375

You tell them that you don't have that information yet. Especially if it's in a different state, people will have to travel so making arrangements takes a little longer to make
