You can try unpairing, resetting, and resetting https://support.apple.com/en-us/118531 Also since they're new, make sure they're updated. Just leave them and your phone on charge close to each other and they'll update on their own. Should happen within an hour or 2. That's about the extent of what user troubleshooting looks like. After that its call apple support

I had to switch to afterrmarket ear tips (SpinFits, amazing by the way) to complete the test successfully. I got the same message with all the apple tips. I chalk it up to having a wierd shaped ear i suppose.

My test would not succeed, either. Seems my ear canal opening is too tall to create a proper seal. I will try the SpinFits.
