While using ANC/Transparency, yes! I’m on my fourth set, all replaced for free at the Genius Bar. The last time I got a new set was after the initial warranty was up. It’s a recognized issue and if they fail apples internal test they will replace them.

Had the same process but with my first pair no longer under warrantee. Going to the apple store, them putting the AirPods in the machine, both failing, and instantly getting new ones for free was quick and easy.

I got mine replaced for free 3 times by now. And they’re still under that default 1y warranty. So the 4th pair just broke on me a few days ago but I haven’t got the time to replace them again. I wonder how many times will they break within 1 year after the purchase. And what am I gonna do with them after the warranty expire?… because I’m sure that even the new pair of AirPods Pro will break in max 2 months..sowtf

Pringgler

And when they’re broke and the crackling sound starts to come back even the noise cancelling starts to let some low frequencies pass thru. They sound just like the 1euro wired headphones with no bass…

Sucks for you. I would buy the Apple Care+ if you still can. I would assume they let you buy it if your pods are still under warranty? I’ve had mine since December 2019 and replaced three times due to muffling of the left pod but no crackling.

Pringgler

Hm I’m not even sure if I can buy apple care since I’m in Romania. Not sure if we have at least one Apple shop in the whole country so…idk I think I’m gonna live with them like that when they break and they’re not in warranty anymore…

DemDemD

How did you get them replace then? Try clicking on the “Coverage…” section of your AirPods in iPhone.

Pringgler

I got them replaced at iStyle, which is an authorized premium reseller in Romania, since we don’t have Apple. And I have hardware and technical support covered for my AirPods Pro until December. I think they will break a few more times until that..lol

DemDemD

I would check with iStyle if they’ll replace your pods if you are able to get applecare+ and then check apple’s website to buy.

kynovardy

When they are replaced you get an extra 3 months warranty from that point

Pringgler

Wo didn’t know that. That’s cool :)

adamnblake

Yep and didn’t realize it in time before the warranty expired. Now i’m just stuck with it.

this happened to me too, last year i was told the only way to get them fixed was by bringing them in so someone could actually test them. i didn’t feel comfortable doing it bc it was during delta and i’m high risk. i just sat on support now after they started making a high pitched wailing sound that’s def damaging my hearing. apple is saying i’m not a part of the recall because mine are too new, and i’m 1 month out of warranty. i’m pissed. i clearly have the recall problem. never buying airpods again after seeing this thread.

alexlikespizza

I need to get mine replaced before that extended warranty ends. That noise has stopped me entirely from using it while running.

jesusrodriguezm

My crackling problem started a couple a days ago… it sucks.

Thanks!!!

Crackling with my original pair that got recalled & crackling with the replacement pair. It’s frustrating!

I just went to the apple store and they replaced them free. I bought them 2 yrs ago. Thanks Reddit
