Repulsive_Talk_9910

It’s been unhealthy for me going on 14 years

gandalftheokay

A kindred spirit! Remember the fucking Verizon ad in the first game? Lmao and the energizer batteries

Calm-Zombie2678

And Ford and Xbox!

Repulsive_Talk_9910

Lol and Zane saying “can you hear me now?” In the special episode

gandalftheokay

LMFAO I forgot about this! Honestly in-character for Zane, if he did it now I wouldn't be surprised at all

Repulsive_Talk_9910

For real, he’s certainly a trickster that way.

Dry-Introduction-491

That part

wolf4492000

Yes I did it took me months to get back to something approaching normal lvls of interest, I didn’t think it would suck me in as much as it did ( my first remedy love is control) I wasn’t as interested in the Alan wake (still more interest in the control) but damn this game completely took my life for two months

gandalftheokay

Yep, same. Pretty sure I was starting to annoy my wife lol I was a fan of the first Alan Wake and clung to any news of a sequel I could get for a couple of years... then I got older. Played Control and really liked it but fell out of the loop and hadn't heard about the AWE dlc. I only heard AW2 was coming out a day before release and I bought it on the spot! Kicked my obsession into full gear, went back and 100% Control right after.

PetiteCaptain

Yeah, but for me it's different games. I bought Baldurs Gate 3 with the intent on sinking hundreds of hours into it like I'd done with Alan Wake 2, Lies of P and Re4, I played maybe 10 hours and now I'm back deep into Alan Wake. It comes and goes

gandalftheokay

I fell pretty deep into Lies of P as well! Amazing lore and gameplay, a very pleasant surprise. Always been an Re4 fan too! I had my doubts about my interest in BG3 but once it's systems clicked for me it was a really rich game! Highly recommend putting in the time one day, from another easily bored and distracted gamer.

GIZA815

Yeah. Alan Wake 2 helped me get out of a seven-month hyperfixation on Resident Evil, only to drag me into a hyperfixation on AW and Control.

ChumFamine

Hyperfixation on resident evil is so real, going through it right now lol

Albert1285

Yes definitely! I was soooo into it I wouldn’t shut up about it to my coworkers and friends. AND to make this obsession even more drastic there was also Herald of Darkness song which made me extremely obsessed and also I wouldn’t stop showing the musical to everybody lol , and the song I just couldn’t get over it.

gandalftheokay

I jumped and clapped like a girl at a Beatles concert when Sam Lake jumped on stage during their live performance of this song lmaooo But yeah same, I even convinced a few people to buy the game lol

Zachary_Lee_Antle

Hello fellow autistic remedy-nerd crew :D

Byrnstar

Oh you have no idea. The first Alan Wake had actually been on my radar for many years, being a game set in the PNW where I've always lived. Wound up playing Control first after being gifted a PS5, fell head over heels for Remedy's unique flavor of weird…which led me to the Remastered…and whooo heck it snowballed from there. It was honestly very, very strange to play that first Alan Wake and *recognize* things. Like the 'Bright Falls Light and Power' which is the Gorge Dam on the Skagit River. Cauldron Lake is a queer combination of both Diablo Lake (also along the Skagit) and Oregon's Crater Lake. The underground mines reminded me of the Ape Caves near Mt. St. Helens. Cauldron Lake Lodge reminding me of Timberline Lodge on Mt. Hood in Oregon, where also happens to be where the exterior shots of The Shining were filmed. Bringing Alan Wake back to Stephen King, and then spiraling back to Twin Peaks which I watched in middle school. Gives one a very interesting perspective of how ideas and fandom circle and loop and borrow from each other - no idea comes from a vacuum but from what existed before.

NovaSr

I had spent years living in Washington but moved to Arizona for school and was feeling really homesick. I was so happy when Alan Wake came out because playing it reminded me so much of hiking in the woods or visiting small towns in the Northwest.  It was kind of funny a few years later when I had moved back and American Nightmare came out and brought back memories of exploring around the desert and small towns in Arizona and Nevada. Remedy really nailed the feeling of both environments!

cregerBot

Ever since I played the first game (~12 years ago), Alan Wake and Remedy have been a big part of my life and molded who I am today. I think hyperfixate might be an understatement lol even in the period I forgot what the game was called, the game lived rent free in my head

FledglingZombie

Oh yeah I was briefly insufferable and plan to be again once the dlc is out

The_Lydz

Yeah. It’s called autism.

skeletspook

If you have autism and are obsessed with AW and Control, does that mean you actually have Ahtism?

iam_aha

Yes and there is no Remedy for it

skeletspook

Dammit, have my upvote.

i__hate__stairs

Oh, you!

gandalftheokay

Also true 😂 I got diagnosed when I was younger but only the people that spend a ton of time around me are generally able to tell nowadays (thanks therapy)

The_Lydz

Then welcome brother. Cuz that’s exactly what I did when I beat AW remastered. Also if you’re into clone hero get herald of darkness.

kyatorpo

I think since November, I've listened to like 5 songs that aren't included in the game.

D3th2Aw3

My fiance is at her wits end with me listening to the AW2 and Dune 2 soundtracks lol

Fish-InThePercolator

I still am

mixitup047

If anybody uses the word scratch in general conversation, I will immediately switch into alan’s vocal tone and say “scratch was here” I also just randomly sing “mama gave me a magic clicker” too often.

CJIEnOuBOBR

No, of course no one is fixated or anything, but i’d be grateful if you’d shown me the champion of light…

gandalftheokay

Only if you show me the herald of darkness.....

skeletspook

"I showed you my herald of darkness, please respond"

gandalftheokay

LOL

IceOfCream

could he be stuck in a never ending night?

marting0r

I started reading and watching everything that inspired Alan Wake, definitely recommend watching Twin Peaks and reading the House of Leaves!

Revanur

Only months? I've been in a loop since I first played Control in 2022.

i__hate__stairs

Oh yes. I'm still doing it, although I didn't get to play AW2 until January. I did New Game + right away, and made sure I got all the words of power and weapon upgrades lol, things I typically don't do. Then I played Control again. I've watch metric tonnes of YouTube analysis and lore exposition, watched the same videos over again. I joined a Patreon. Memorized every guitar lick on the Rebirth album. Just yesterday I found a nice picture of Marko Saaresto for my new phone. I'm a grown man, lol.

Casey090

Not really, but I was in the AW2 zone for a week, fully concentrating all of my time on the game. And I must have watched 20 different blind reaction videos of a certain musical level. XD

HybridSoldierXI

I was this way after beating the first game for months. Now that AW2 is out my fixation is back in full swing. I think the fact there was a 13 year gap didn’t help either. I was incredibly invested in the characters and lore that getting back into it now and seeing familiar characters/places made playing through the game more emotional than normal. It was evident at the end of chapter 2 when ‘Wide Awake’ plays that my investment in the first game came flooding back and hit me in full force.

PeuxnYayTah

Yes Alan Wake 2 made me realize how foolish I was skipping Control and Quantum Break, I bought them right away

Brodaeus

I feel you. I was kinda meh on the first Alan Wake and really enjoyed Control but that was before I was aware of the connected universe. After playing Alan Wake 2 I fell down the rabbit hole hard, went back and played every Remedy game (except for Max Payne, I’m holding out for the remake) and replayed Control. Now I spend my lunch breaks watching Gaming University and fantasizing about squeezing in a Final Draft playthrough.

tomtomato0414

SHOW ME THE CHAMPION OF LIGHT DUDUUUDUUUN DUDUDU DUUUN I'LL SHOW YOU THE HERALD OF DARKNESS BAAA WAAHHWUUHWAHWAAAAH LOST IN THE NEVER ENDING NIGH BAA WAAHWAHH DIVING DEEP TO THE SURFACE naaah, never happened before

tommhans

Yes! i finished AW2, then started final draft before i decided i'll just do the whole RCU(and also quantum break) before finishing the final draft, great decision there. What a ride that was, fantastic games all of them, love that they are all so different. Still not sure what big game to do now, had a beautiful gaming year last year and this year started with the remedyverse, do think spiderman 2 is next up for me.

neilsaccount05

I'm on my 4th playthrough of AW2 and I've been transcribing everything for myself. I'm utterly obsessed, but can quit whenever I want to, right?!

CECOOO

Same here. Played the first one, then AW2. Then I got obsessed, played the DLCs of AW1, then the Final Draft. Watched the TV series, replayed Control again. Read so many theories, the wikis, and now I have subscribed to this subreddit just for the news.

Telvanni_Mushroom

I am spending all my money on Alan Wake custom merch OP. I am hyperfixated af

kween_hangry

Me when Alan wake 1 came out (and 2)

Fizziest_milk

yeah but I absolutely loved every second of it. I *love* finding out about lore in media, I spent hours just reading the codex entries in the mass effect games

hussdogrobroonie

Every time a Remedy game comes out we are all Diving Deep to the Surface

LasPlagas69

Yes.

monitorhero_cg

We've all been there (or still are)

Hawx130

IT'S LITERALLY HAPPENING TO ME RIGHT NOW. Got AW2 two weeks ago, I'm nearing the end, and my YouTube algorithm is destroyed. Sam Lake, The Game Awards performance, Spotify Podcast "Behind the Voice", Door etc etc. Can't say too much due to spoilers.

its-pandabear

Indeedy

MaxPayne665

Still am

[deleted]

Sure did. The best games will have you contemplating about them long after you've beaten them.

ItsFromMars

Yes! I finally recently got around to upgrading to a newer console and the first thing I downloaded was AWII after feeling down about missing out on its release and I have been hyperfixated on it for the last month or so. I was expecting to like the game considering how much I like Remedy’s games, but I never expected it would have this profound of an impact on me.

SpeedHedgehog

Same but ever since I played first game for the first time last summer's July. I have yet to play AW2 cuz no platform to play on but so I had to watch yt walkthrough but I'm planning on getting it soon. I also have been listening to AW1 and 2 soundtrack ever since at least weekly so you know the answer friend!

Trevidium

I'm still trapped

NeedtheMeadofPoetry

Started with the game, was writing at the same time, then the music, then POTF music, the memes, took a break because baby was born, now getting back into it to finish my second playthrough. Paid for the DLCs already and can't wait for more content.

Vetizh

Yeah, and I'm still hyperfixating.

simonbelmont1980

For me it’s been…. 13years

Onestepfromlost

Not really but I did sing champion of light daily for a month

Michael3523

I started with Alan wake 2 and have proceeded to platinum it, and play it three times loved it so much I immediately went to control played it twice and platinum’s it too. Now I just beat Alan wake 1 and am about to platinum it I only need ten more achievements to platinum. I’m watching every video trying to understand the lore of everything. I love it the theories and ideas that come from these games are so impressive.

ChaotiC_Burrit0

It lives in my head rent free, every aspect of AW2 imo is perfect. And I can’t stop thinking about it

hlrecovery

I still can’t listen to other music without including some Alan wake in the playlist

kefka-esque

My gf watched me play it and we both caught what we called "Alan Wake disease" We self-medicated by watching of Twin Peaks for the first time but it only made the disease mutate into some kind of speculation super-virus We're still searching for a cure

joliet_jane_blues

I still haven't found a new hyperfixation that is better than Remedy. And yeah I am autistic too.

Derpgum500

I do this with every game I play. I literally just got out of my life is strange phase. Before I never even heard of Alan wake. I kept on getting tik tok and I just dove right into the game.

cxlesstial

You're definitely not the only one lol I finished the first Alan Wake game in the SIXTH GRADE and I turn twenty one in under five months 😭 I even have a tattoo on my ribs from the first game. My highschool senior quote was "It's not a lake, it's an ocean."  The game convinced me to pursue writing as a career. Talk about a fucking legacy

DirtyDanChicago

My first tattoo I'm getting is a cult of the tree one. I started playing the original Alan Wake, American Nightmare, and replaying Control 2 months before Alan Wake 2 came out.

mixitup047

Yeahhhhhhj

Gears_of_Ted

I have been waiting to do my replay of AW2 (haven’t don’t final draft yet) after I get my LG OLED TV in a few days

Caligari89

Nah, because I've been hyper-fixated on it for over a decade.

ExioKenway5

Honestly I'm still kinda there. Just came out of the cinema and they had Herald of Darkness playing in the foyer and I recognised it from the guitar riff only.

-Chaotic_Chicken-

My first introduction to Remedy games was Alan Wake Remastered on PS+ in 2021 when I first got a PS5. In the time since then, I’ve clocked well over 100 hours, got the platinum, and completed the DLCs including all the trophies for both. I played both Control and Control Ultimate Edition plus the DLCs, also on PS5. Then earlier this year I got a gaming PC and proceeded to clock over 30 hours in American Nightmare, getting most of the trophies. I also played Max Payne 2, Quantum Break, and purchased the original Alan Wake, of which I’m currently 100%ing. I have well over 200 hours in Alan Wake 2, plus the platinum. I’ve basically been playing only Remedy games for three months straight and I love it lol. My family thinks I’ve gone off the deep end with how much I love these games XD

QckslvrGrl

yep. still brainstorming a tattoo idea and have my cult of the word/tree outfit all ready for renn faire/halloween :D

Glum-Literature-8837

Does listening to Old Gods on repeat during my commute for the last month or so count? Also picked up Alan Wake Remastered for cheap today, so in the near future I’m going to do AW>AN>Control>AW2 in one straight shot.

More-League-2684

I still have herald of darkness playing on repeat in my head

NoBeginning8469

Absolutely, and then I got really frustrated with the lack of interest in Remedy-verse roleplays/writing in my circle. Thankfully(?) I'm now slipping into a Fallout fixation, because the weird lack of anywhere to put the Remedy fixation felt really...Antsy?

Ill-Housing7549

I remember finishing Alan Wake in around about 2011 so I would’ve been 10. “it’s not a lake, it’s an ocean” had been in my head most days up until the release of Alan Wake 2 so imagine my reaction to “it’s not a loop, it’s a spiral”
