Check the local ordinances? People in our area are allowed to start making noise as early as 7am and up until like 11pm.

slgray16

My brother is a landscaper in a hot climate. He likes to get all his houses done early in the morning so he's not overheated. I never had the heart to ask him if he feels guilty for waking people up.

upsidedown_alphabet

I'm in construction and work on mostly vacation homes. We show up at 7:30 and start making noise at 8 which is the earliest allowed. Doesn't feel great to start using power tools first thing in the morning when people are right next door sleeping or starting their day, but at the end of the day...I'm just doing my job trying to make a living in the scorching heat and they're chilling in the AC in their second or third home so I can't be bothered to care that much.

THOUGHTCOPS

8am is reasonable and the standard for noisy equipment

andrewthemexican

I think also much more reasonable on weekdays. Weekends are questionable, aside from proper contract work like this guy. Annoying, but understandable. Me personally mowing my yard? I won't even start before 10am on the weekend.

Dottie85

Depends on climate and city ordinances.

BreezyMack1

In Vegas they literally worked through the whole night. I listened to this for over a year all night long. Never want to live in a city again. It’s terrible.

Karmack_Zarrul

Doesn’t apply to a city that never sleeps

upsidedown_alphabet

Yeah I know. I'd love to start earlier.

Guilty_Seaweed_249

It's 7 am where I live.

MannyMoSTL

I’m asleep and don’t wanna hear leaf blowers at that area (they are particularly grating) but accept that anything after 8am is my burden to bear.

combong

get that bag brother

No_Ratio3369

Hey man keep working construction, invest your money properly, and before you know it that’s gonna be you waking up in your vacation home annoyed by power tools

Desert_Kat

I live in a hot climate and most people understand that early morning noise is going to happen in the summer. Occasionally someone bitches on the neighborhood Facebook group, but the majority of people understand.

Mahooligan81

The moment I worked night shift and had to deal with a very rambunctious neighborhood, I never cared again 😂😂 I’d rather your brother and his team avoid getting very sick, and in dire circumstances, dying

liljazzycat

Kind of sad to see a lot of people not understanding how dangerous the heat is. But if the lawn crew doesn’t make it to THEIR house on time all hell breaks loose. Me me me me me

Mahooligan81

Right?? Stay safe yard kings (and queens)

BaronVanWinkle

I was a tree trimmer in California, mostly palm trees, can’t even count how many heat injuries I got. You HAVE to start early af before the heat kicks in. If it’s the owner doing the work maybe he just doesn’t have time to do it any other part of the day? Everyone has lives they’re living too and the guy’s/gal’s “honey do list” might be long as all get out.

KennstduIngo

The year I worked night shift was the year all my neighbors decided to get their roofs reshingled.

Claytonia-perfoiata

It’s rough out there in the heat. I had to go to the hospital last year after working in an October heat wave & now even days in the 80s get to me.

Velocibraxtor

That happened to me as well. I worked for ~4 years doing home renovations (mainly deck replacements/installs) in the southern Texas summer heat, when I was about 20. Well, I suffered very minor heat stroke a couple of times and now, at almost 30 years old, 80 degrees feels like 110 and I just can’t do it anymore. Glad I got out of that field, but I really wish I had never done it. My doctor has said this could last a couple more years or it could be for the rest of my life, so I’m just counting my blessings that at least now I work a desk job, where I can enjoy the AC system lol

Claytonia-perfoiata

Ohhhh. Damn. That sux. Same here & I, like an idiot, just went to school for landscape design & maintenance. I’m dreading each day as it gets hotter & hotter for the summer. Of course I worry about waking people up by showing up to work as early as I can—as OP was asking. At least I’m a “fine gardener” & not a “mow, blow, & go” so I don’t have to worry about loud equipment.

fraudthrowaway0987

As an afternoon napper who is constantly disturbed by other people making noise while I’m trying to nap and has consistently survived despite the hardship, I wouldn’t be too worried about it.

Chooxomb00

As a former contractor I agree with your brother. Depending on where we were working we could start as early as 5:30 for new development. If the area was already established it was usually 7:30-8

EleanorRichmond

I can't fault lawn workers and roofers for doing as much as possible before 11am. I just wish their customers, our neighbors, would communicate in advance when there will be major noise at uncivilized hours. (That said, I don't think there's any excuse for leaf blowers in summer, and pressure washing is not in the class of jobs that are unsafe at noon. Fewer feelings of peace and brotherhood towards them at 6:27.)

buddhaman09

Leaf blowers are used to clean up grass clippings from sidewalks/the street, so that's why you hear them in summer. Yes there are ways to clean them up without lawn equipment, but landscaping companies are trying to get as much done as quickly as possible

filkerdave

They could just leave the grass clippings. When I'm World Dictator leaf blowers will be banned and anyone using them will be composted.

curlygirlynurse

This is the energy I’m voting for, if anyone asks me

Buzumab

Please be my mayor. Leaf blowers seriously drive me mad—luckily our building's landscapers only come once a week, because I have to leave whenever they're here. I often consider asking if I can pay them to not do their jobs.

chilldrinofthenight

Don't look up how polluting they are. Breathing in that PM2.5 is really, really bad for you.

jibaro1953

You should meet my neighbor. He is the OCD leaf lower man. Drives us nuts.

chilldrinofthenight

If he's using a gasoline-powered leaf blower and not wearing at least an N95-type mask, then you can rest assured he's giving himself cancer. If he's not wearing earmuffs, he'll lose his hearing soon, too. Don't know if that helps you any, but it may give you some small satisfaction.

jibaro1953

He wears ear protection. I have an 80 volt Kobalt that suits my needs.

EleanorRichmond

There is -- I discovered, after years of wanting leaf blower owners to simultaneously DIAF -- a world of difference between a backpack leaf blower and a rake FOR LEAVES. But that's only one or two days a year, and there's no upside to starting early. Grass can be left, or if you're dealing with uptight customers, cleared with an electric blower.

gardengirl99

Yeah, like, if you’re having trees cut down and they’re going to have the wood chipper there, it would be really nice to alert your neighbors. Those things are loud AF, and that’s work that’s scheduled in advance.

Own_Satisfaction1840

That would be the considerate thing to do, especially when your neighbor is cutting trees right on the line of your property and the trees are hanging over your vehicles….no advance notice so you can move your vehicles…we were jolted out of deep sleep at 6:30 am, scared out of our wits to run down to our driveway half naked to move our cars & motorcycle to find 4 dudes up the trees cutting away like crazyyyy!! We were fuming! Don’t people have the least bit of consideration for your neighbors’ property?? What’s wrong with you, idiots???!!

SuperHair69

20 year landscaper here....and fuck no we don't feel guilty.🤣 Especially on a 100° day. Getting done quick was essential bc you couldn't drink water fast enough to stay hydrated.

Late-Rutabaga6238

I live in Florida and I feel guilty when our lawn guys show up at 1pm . During the hottest months I always grab a box of Powerade ice pops from dollar tree every week and give it to them on their way back to the truck. I really felt bad when we had our roof replaced in the middle of summer overlooking our our pool. We tried to get it done earlier before it was oppressively hot but between supply chain issues and not enough crews it took several months. I told them they could jump in if they got too hot. They looked at me like I was insane

Millenniauld

Fyi, if it helps any, in consistently hot climates, houses are typically built to retain as much of the cooling from AC as possible, which means thicker walls and more insulation. That also reduces noise pollution. My husband used to live in and frame houses in Arizona, so he's talked about it a lot. So there's good odds people aren't really noticing it as much as they would somewhere with more northerly building codes.

PleasantReputation0

Never had the heart? That would have been my first question!

VisualPoetry1971

i assume hed prefer waking folks up to a heat stroke.

slgray16

If I ask him he will just become more self conscious about it and it might start bleeding into his personal life like picking up his kids, etc.. It's not my job, it's his. I'll let him manage it the way he wants. I feel for his clients neighbors, though.

chrispd01

Its cause they know their brother is a sadist who thinks that is actually the very best part of the job….

PleasantReputation0

Hahahahaha 🤣

Monaqui

Leaf blower specifically are really tricky but for most other types of equipment there are quieter alternatives out there. Try find me a quiet leaf blower though.

Dizzy_Spring8001

You mean a rake?

Dottie85

Yep! 7:00 am for most of the year, but 6:00 am disin the summer. Check your city's ordinances. (I hate the noise, but someone's health being adversely affected by triple digit heat is more important than my inconvenience. ) For relevance, we had a horrid, record breaking hot summer last year. We hit 114°F for two weeks!

Shotgun_Rynoplasty

Dude, I grew up in Arizona. It was a general understanding (especially in summer) that it’s chill to get work done early before it’s 120 degrees outside. OP here could shut the windows and pay for AC if they’re that bothered.

kingAries21024

Maybe you felt not to ask because that’s a stupid ass question and you don’t want him to look at you like you lost your fucking mind. Minding your business was the way to go.

NECalifornian25

I live in a hot climate, and city noise ordinances stop an hour earlier in the summer to help with overheating. During the winter it’s 7am on weekdays and 8am on weekends, in the summer so think it’s 6:30 or 7am every day.

coreysgal

I live in a hot climate at the noise is allowed to start at 7am

Nihilistic_Navigator

Arborist in MN. in less it's emergency work I won't typically start till around 9am. If I HAVE to start earlier for some reason I will either ask/ inform the two most immediate neighbors on every side or leave a flyer with time/plan, and number to reach me with concerns.

sckurvee

I used to do yardwork and yes, morning hours were the best. Of course I felt guilty as hell and would waste time just building up the courage to wake up all these nice people lol. In the end, though, they literally pay you to do it so I guess it's on them if mornings don't work for them and their neighbors.

i_need_a_username201

Naw dawg, i give people the grace of one fuck up at starting loud yard work at m before 8 am. Like who is that inconsiderate. I’d be bothering the he’ll out of you the second time it happened and calling the police on the third. And i cut my own yard in Houston TX, i don’t start before 8 on the weekend.

Inside-Run785

Yeah, that’s want it is here too. You’d be a narc for calling the police at 6:45. At best, a jerk if you ask your neighbor to not do their yard work until a later time because you want to sleep more.

Rilenaveen

It’s 8 am where I live but LOTS of people ignore it and start earlier

This_Mongoose445

I’m in Texas, as it heats up we know gardeners, maintenance workers, construction will start work earlier (much) than the cooler months. I don’t blame them or get mad.

DudeWheresMyPotStash

*living in a predominantly Hispanic neighborhood and hearing yard work and mariachi music all at 5am*

savethewallpaper

OP must be in a pretty gentrified area because this is exactly what a lot of Denver neighborhoods close to downtown are like. My grandma’s neighbors offered us Modelos one morning at like 11am. I was 12 💀

JustBlondeEnough

I'd prefer a Modelo at 10am compared to the bounce house and loud music past midnight that another poster mentioned. I have ONE neighbor who lives like that, not the whole neighborhood, and I hate them. There is also a radius of litter around their house extending into the street and neighboring yards, an illegal day care operation, and some kind of monthly trafficking going on (a uhaul parked overnight in the dark in their yard once a month). So I think I'm justified. It's the screaming kids and the litter that really bother me the most :(

DudeWheresMyPotStash

Sounds about right 😅

Cranks_No_Start

“Mexican Americans don't like to get up early in the morning but they have to so they do it real slow.” Cheech Marin has entered the chat.

DudeWheresMyPotStash

Ah was waiting for a Cheech and Chong comment and you didn't dissapoint 😁

TurkGonzo75

"Mexican Americans they go to night school and take Spanish and get a B" Fuck I haven't thought about that song in 30 years and I still know the words. lol

andrewthemexican

Heheh  *looks around, slowly.*

Civil-Tart

Damn... 😆😆

NoseAdventurous4718

ahh yes the mariachi for las mananitas, i love it.

scrizewly

Welcome to Phoenix.

liftingshitposts

I used to live in a Fijian neighborhood and they would party until 4am, sleep until 6, and start yard work haha. Best neighbors I’ve ever had honestly, so fun and all were very skilled at everything. Our court felt like it’s own city haha

Impressive-Gas-8407

My neighbors 2 doors down go off having massive house parties at least once a month. They blast Tejano music welllllll into the night. I just close my window. OP is the type to call the cops.

DudeWheresMyPotStash

Haha yeah OP definitely gives off call the cops at every slight disturbance energy

Tyler_66_

Are you overreacting by complaining about it online? No. No harm, no foul. Is it an annoyance? Yes. Will it stop? No. You have a few legitimate options, 1. Move to a place without neighbors that care about what their yard looks like or some where remote where you don't really have neighbors. 2. Sleep with the windows closed and maybe even ear plugs if you have to. 3. Get up at 6:30 and start doing your own yard work, cant beat them, join them. Good luck

TwistederRope

Three is actually not bad advice. I've done it before. I hate it, but if I'm going to be up and pissed, I might as well be productive.

OwlPrincess42

If you are being woken up by a leaf blower houses away, you are indeed a light sleeper.

JeepersCreepers74

Or, they're sleeping with their windows open as they admit. I just feel like OP is asking to have their cake and eat it, too, close the windows and see if that makes a difference!

InevitableRhubarb232

I like my windows open but certain times of year it only drops below 80 between about 2-6am so I open them when I go to sleep around 1:30 then get up at 6 and close them and go back to sleep.

JeepersCreepers74

Same, I like my windows open during certain times of the year, too. But living in a suburban neighborhood, I know the trade-off is that I'm going to hear a lot of things that I don't when they're closed (loud cars, garbage trucks, dogs barking, sirens, yard work, and that one bird that is like "CAW... \[waits just until I'm dozing off\] CAW!").

kibblet

Birds at 4:30am drive me nuts. It's dark! Wtf you gotta tweet about?

StayJaded

During certain times in the spring the birds go bananas right before sunrise around my house. It’s crazy how much noise can be generated by such a tiny creature.

CoveCreates

Those are the horniest birds

Timmyty

We could figure out EMI that we can beam to the birds to make them think they're satisfied.

CoveCreates

But then we won't have all the baby birds we need!

DosZappos

To be fair, I’ve done of my best Tweeting at 430 am

chronicallyill_dr

I get some that start at 3:30, why?!

Proper-Effective8621

Worms

SuperHair69

Don't for get the God damn garbage man at 4:50am every Monday. He's the noisiest MF in the world. 🤣

Impressive-Gas-8407

I also prefer to sleep with my windows open, but the sounds of the neighbor kid revving his engine at 1am, people racing down the street, gunshots, and car alarms always wake me up. So I don't do it. I shut the window right before I go to sleep.

Monstiemama

I live across the street from a hospital and a bank. Garbage trucks come 6 mornings a week as early as 6:45, and as a special treat, the bank employs a man to clean the parking lot with a leaf blower at 6:45 every Friday morning. Then we top the week off with 8 am gardeners on Saturday mornings. I’m telling you, my spirit is crushed. I just want to fucking sleep.

ODBeef

My garbage truck is here at about 5 am

Current-Anybody9331

Same. From what I gather, they are immune from the noise ordinances. Although if I had to hit as many houses as they do, 5am sounds about right.

kiltedkiller

Some garbage companies are switching over to electric vehicles that are so much quieter than the typical garbage truck.

BasicEchidna3313

Yeah, when I lived behind a hospital, it was 24/7. Garbage, landscaping, construction. Every Wednesday at 10 pm they would leaf blow the whole parking lot. So bizarre.

Spiritual_Oil_7411

Idk, man. I like my sleep, so I get it, but people tend to like to start early with outdoor work because of the heat. Maybe just close your windows, start a noise machine, and go back to sleep. Idt you're going to change their ways.

Available_Farmer5293

There is a wealthy town near me that banned them altogether. There is something particularly grating about the sound of leaf blowers.

Tranquil-Soul

I can only hope and pray that happens in my town

TwistederRope

"BRRRRAAAAAAARRRRRRRAAARRRRRRRHHHHHHHHHHHHHAAAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR" -Leaf Blower's counter argument.

rhymesaying

That town is done for come october

DryFaithlessness9494

In my city, quiet hours where you can’t do loud yardwork are between 10pm and 7am.

savethewallpaper

This is very common in my current area of the Midwest where it gets hot and humid in the summer. People do yard work in the early morning to avoid the stifling heat later in the day. It was also very common when I lived in the Intermountain/Front Range area like you do, because we all wanted to get our yard work out of the way before going to spend the day doing whatever outdoor recreation activity we enjoy. Looking at the noise ordinances for Denver and its suburbs some of your neighbors might be starting a little early, but not by a lot. Aurora and Lakewood just say no “unnecessary” noise, (though you can’t yell outside in Lakewood before 8am), and Broomfield, Littleton, Highlands Ranch, and Denver are are all 7am. Sounds like you need to adjust your expectations here because 11pm-7am is very common for “quiet hours” in the US. Maybe just close your windows when the noise starts and go back to sleep?

Mhor75

Not so fun fact I used to lived off a very busy road in Melbourne that was building an underground train station/train lines. Because it was a busy road, they weren’t able to close it during the day for the construction , so guess when they did it? 6 pm to 6 am. My extra favourite part, the construction workers would have their brakes right outside my bedroom window, I got all the goss at 3 am 😭😭😭

Esky419

Maybe that's their only available time. At least they are keeping their shit clean.

Kittle_Me_This

7am is reasonable… it’s all in perspective, I don’t think 6:45 is “early as fuck” I think it’s about the time I wake up on weekends to get a lil extra sleep. Was this a weekend? If so then yea that’s inconsiderate.

[deleted]

Why don't they get earplugs or shut the windows?

SilverMetalist

Bc that would be taking personal responsibility instead of complaining online.

[deleted]

Yeah people seem to want to just complain about fixable problems.

Agile-Wait-7571

Welcome to suburbia.

ejcrotty

Our local ordinance is 7am. Not worth fighting over 15 minutes.

tazdevil64

People can't start work like this until 8am, and must stop at 5pm in my neighborhood. I had to enforce it a few times when my neighbor decided to have her workmen start at 7am. I'm retired, and I told her my days of getting up early are DONE, and if she didn't stop, I'd make sure her life was hell in regards to permits for the work.

jralll234

6:45 am is ridiculous for that kind of thing in a residential neighborhood and anyone saying it’s ok is the asshole of the neighborhood who isn’t aware the neighbors all hate them.

Annabel398

I was shocked to find that 7am is when noises can start in my jurisdiction. I grew up being told that only an asshole mows the yard before 9am!

jsand2

To be honest, I think anytime after sunrise should be acceptable. With the heat, the earlier people can get things done the better. People shouldn't be forced to wait until later in the day when it's hotter just so you can sleep with your windows open to save a lil money. Saying that, I personally rarely go out before 8am. Not going to be upset at someone for doing so though.

Wise_Profile_2071

The sun rises at 4 am in the summer here. 😅

JuneRunes

Man I was thinking this. I understand that 7am *is* early but also sometimes work needs to get done and peoples schedules and weather forecast don't always allow to wait till 9am to start the day. If it was like a daily 7am thing I might start getting irritated but I doubt it's every single day. I don't mind being woken up by neighbors tools early a couple times a month because I understand we all have lives, schedules and things need to get done. Part of being an adult is keeping your home nice which sometimes involves tools and not everyone can accommodate a later start to the day. 7am is fine.

InevitableRhubarb232

What time do you think the sun comes up?!

jsand2

Depends where you live. Alaska has like 30 days of sun... But as stated in other replies. If you have ever had a job working outside in the elements you would get the point of starting as early as possible.

InevitableRhubarb232

It’s 100 by 7am here so I get it but we still have noise ordinances

Glass-Hedgehog3940

Check with your city’s noise abatement laws and go from there. 6:45am is outrageous.

YDGx1138

Some places it's 7 AM

kawi2k18

Op will post back their extra 15 min of ordinance sleep wasn't enough

Prestigious-Mall-344

It's not outrageous. If you don't like it just deal with it cause people got shit to do

RedHeadRaccoon13

Came here to say that.

bananakegs

This is dependent on location  I live in southwest florida (one of the hottest parts of the USA with humidity)  I understand why people should probably be allowed to do yard work in the early early morning (although I’m a morning person so I recognize I’m biased)

rileyjw90

Well I wish I hadn’t looked that up. My city’s quiet hours are 10p-7a. Excuse me if I don’t want to be woken up at 7am on a Saturday by the neighbor chainsawing a stump in the ground or power washing his fence.

STLrep

Some of us got shit to do 🤷‍♂️

No_Object_8722

Exactly. Here in Florida, we don't want to wait until the sun is blazing hot to start doing yard work. We can start at 7am before it's hot as hell outside

STLrep

Preaching to the choir bro I work construction in the Midwest so I know how it is 😂

CosmicButtholes

It’s like these people have never heard of white noise machines before. Imagine them living in apartments. Unless someone is yelling nonstop right outside your window or blaring super loud music at 4 am mind your damn business or go live on acreage. Neighborhoods are noisy and people make noise. They do yard work, dogs bark, kids laugh and scream. That’s life, time to figure out coping strategies. Coming from someone with severe ptsd and other issues, someone whose roommate works 5pm-4am so my schedule is also whacked out, and coming from someone who WISHES that the worst part of my life was neighbors doing yard work early in the morning. The most easy thing to cope with ever. Like all these people complaining about neighborhood noise in the mornings seem like they’ve never had to try to cope with a problem out of their control in their entire lives. Dealing with sporadic neighborhood noise has got to be one of the easiest issues to cope with in the world. You’ve got so many options, close your damn windows, get a white noise machine, noise canceling headphones, hell, earplugs are extremely cheap. You got options.

pineapples4youuu

It doesn’t matter what you want lol

RatRaceUnderdog

I couldn’t agree more. I hate that regulating others behavior has become such a normalized thing. “When can my neighbor do what he wants?” The only right answer is whenever he wants to 😂

MeetTheMets0o0

I agree. I used to feel like the OP but as I've got older I've realized that it's their home and they're not breaking any laws. Some ppl get up at the ass Crack of dawn and go to be early. Now Personally I'd wait until at least 9am b4 doing stuff but that's me.

Starbuck522

Me too. BUT, depending on location and time of the year, early morning can be a way to get outside tasks done before it gets super hot. Also, plenty of people are doing leaf blowing and chain saw tasks as their job, so perhaps 7-4

toxiclight

I usually wait until 9 a.m. or so, just so the dew's dried on the grass. Otherwise, hell yeah, I'm going to do it as early as possible. I like my sleep, but wear earplugs and an eyemask to ensure that I get it. I don't expect my neighbors to adhere to my schedule.

Altruistic_Barber598

Right I’ll be damned if someone tell me when I can start my mf day. I get up every day at 6 am, I start yard work at 7:30 am. I love gardening, and mowing my lawn. Never had complaints, if I did I wouldn’t give a shit.

kpt1010

Earplugs and a sleep mask —— you’ll never be woken up by someone’s yard work again.

InevitableRhubarb232

Excuse your neighbor if he’d like to get his yard work out of the way in the cooler morning hours

thisisridiculous96

As a second shift worker I have come to realize that's just something it's on me to adapt to. A lot of people wake with the sun. You might just need to bite the bullet and close the windows / use a fan and energy efficient Ac unit.

VeggiesArentSoBad

My gardener got the police called on him for starting before 8am(after 730).

1ToeIn

My neighbor (2 houses down & across the street) has a yard guy who uses a gas powered leaf blower. Not only noisy, but it fills my house with fumes if I have any window open, and the smell is strong throughout my yard. It sucks! My city is trying to pass a ban on gas powered blowers (they’re bad for the environment) but there’s pushback from people saying it would create financial hardship for landscaping companies. ☹️

Familiar_Fan_3603

Not IMO. I have a comical hate of leaf blowers and yard equipment. Will never understand how visual "clutter" of NATURE is less acceptable than cranking all the tools, much more disturbing if trying to enjoy a nice day on the porch.

Complex-Carpenter-76

Most localities have ordinances about this. Check it.

case-face-

Thanks for the opinions everyone! I can see this issue is split nearly down the middle. City ordinance is for 7am. I am definitely not going to say anything about the 645 start, or even starting at 7. I totally get it, people have stuff to do. Just curious to see where people stand :)

FS_Scott

leaf blowers are a blight upon society overall, but moreso before 8.

RandalFlaggLives

I fucking hate those things. And it’s like mfers time it so when one person finishes a new yard starts blowing… My mornings are just perpetual fucking leaf blowing… Trugreen can get fucked too, with their weekly schedule 🤣

SonnyC_50

Before 8 am is unacceptable

Prestigious-Mall-344

No it's not.

e-spero

Where I live the noise ordinance ends at 8am and I've never been more glad.

pileofdeadninjas

6:45 is crazy

Scary_Sarah

Yes it's annoying, and no you can't do much. You're worried about saving money on AC because it's hot out. That's why they're up early too. Can you keep a fan blowing on you and close your windows? Ear plugs? Might be worth spending a little money so you can sleep in one day.

girlabides

It’s not even hot in Denver yet. It’s 9:45am and only 62° right now.

Scary_Sarah

thank you. I was wondering about that because here in Phoenix, it's still in the 60s at night and I haven't needed my AC during the day yet

Electronic-Cat-1394

It’s Denver not the fifth circle of hell how hot can it be that they gotta starts that early

PoorlyAttemptedHuman

There is nothing worse than the sound of a leaf blower. Not only is the noise obnoxious, you know it is something you are enduring for the most trivial and bullshit of reasons. Spending precious nonrenewable fuel to move some leaves that would only be there for a short time anyway while annoying your entire neighborhood in the process. To fire it up at 6:45 in a residential neighborhood is a bit of a dick move. At least it was a weekday. Try that on a weekend and I might have some choice words to yell out of my window. I don't start loud yardwork until 9. Because I'm not a dick.

Cautious-Try-5373

Not overreacting, but maybe SoL. See what your local laws are regarding noise and make some calls if necessary.

PrincssM0nsterTruck

Either check with your HOA or local noise ordinances.

RafeHollistr

To everyone talking about the heat: please note that it is the first week of May and the OP lives near Denver.

Prestigious-Bar-1741

You aren't overreacting or being unreasonable. But neither are they. People who work outside know that it gets very hot during the summer and want to get started as early as possible. And people who have jobs might only have the early morning to take care of their property. This is just what happens when people live near each other. It's also why HOAs, despite how much Reddit generally hates them, can be great. You and your neighbors can talk about it, agree on whether or not a new rule should be created, and then all agree on following it. If 2/3rds of my neighbors agree that my cutting the grass at 6am is a problem, they can make a rule that says no yard work before 8am or 9am or whatever. And since I'm not an ahole, I know that if 2/3rds of my neighbors agree on something, even if I don't, I will respect it. Lots of cities also will have a rule. And while you are free to try and change the rule, you might find it nearly impossible to do so.

Bullshidder

My neighbor is retired and has nothing else to do but run gas powered yard tools all….fucking….day….He starts early too.

Tranquil-Soul

Leaf blowers at any time are not acceptable. Towns across the U.S. are banning them for a reason. They produce sounds that are as loud as a Boeing 737 taking off, they are bad for the environment and a threat to human health. They emit a low frequency buzz that goes through walls. They are used for leaves for only a short time, then just used to blow the dirt and dust from one yard to the other. So, no, you’re not over reacting.

madmos

anything after 7-730am is fair game

xazraelx1

I would check with your city to find out what are the appropriate times for loud work to be done. Most cities have a noise pollution ordinance that states the hours.

ll_Maurice_ll

If you know it's going to happen, get a pair of earplugs and a sound machine. People generally do that to avoid the heat.

blueeyedaisy

What is a reasonable time to expect a lawn mower going right outside the bedroom window?

Fizzyfuzzyface

I would spam the fuck out of whoever’s address that is and let them know that they are (pick your choice of noun). It also sounds like you might have an HOA. Complain to them. They love giving fines.

Impossible_Thing1731

Most people would consider it rude to make a lot of noise before 8 am. Similar to how you wouldn’t call someone on the phone that early if you didn’t know whether they were up or not.

JustNKayce

We had a builder starting work a few lots down at 7 on a Sunday (it was hot, I get it, he wanted the cool of the day). The neighbors raised holy Hell and we never saw him before 9 on the weekend after that.

SourSkittlezx

Not overreacting but if it’s the actual neighbor and not a contracted service, say, “hey man, if you’re planning on using noisy equipment early morning let me know so I can shut my windows.” Don’t be passive aggressive about it either. If it’s a contracted service, ask your neighbor what day they’re supposed to come so you can close your windows. I have really bad allergies and have to do this, not because of noise but because if my windows are open when neighbors mow, I need Benadryl or my eyes swell shut.

Ok-Thing-2222

Since I get up at 5:15 am daily, its hard to wait until others wake up, but I do. I at least try to wait until 8:30.

Mikesoccer98

It varies depending on where you live but the norm is no yard work before 8 AM. Check your local noise ordinances.

jjamesr539

There’s probably a start limit for loud work, 645 is probably earlier than the limit. If it’s earlier than the limit, it’s also probably not a company doing this, since a company is unlikely to be scheduling work that results in fines or neighborhood complaints. It’s probably a neighbor trying to beat the heat or their schedule without bothering to look up the rules. File a complaint.

Fit-Gap-8908

You are correct you need to call and find out what the noise laws are in your town or city because you’re not supposed to be able to do certain things before maybe seven or 738 it depends on your city first you call them I have a late sleeper I do some of my yardwork at dusk I have a neighbor next-door who I don’t get along with him but I get along with his wife and he never starts the lawnmower Before 10 AM in the morning which I’ve always felt is more than considerate you’re not an idiot you just need to check with the Law’s are in your town or city during the week and on the weekends then you can decide if you want to call the police when people start early but then you know the neighbors will hate you but you gotta do what you Gotta do whatever decision you make God bless and GODSPEED

BasilVegetable3339

You only have to go outside in your robe with a shotgun once.

1bir

No & using a leafblower in a city &/ that early could be illegal

HumbleAd1317

I lived with really noisy neighbors, but fixed the problem. I opened up all the windows and turned up Black Dog, by Led Zeppelin at 5am. It worked.

PurpleHairedMOD

I was raised by boomers and told to wait till 8 on weekdays 9 on the weekend. I personally never want to hear your lazy ass leaf blower get a damn rake.

Tnkgirl357

Oh damn. In the summer I definitely mow my lawn before 9 on a weekend. It starts getting too hot by that time of day. I’d say 8 is fine for a weekend, and 7 during the week.

mycats_marv_omen

Id say it depends where you live. I agree with you bc it gets hot as hell where i live, plenty of people suffer heat stroke/exhaustion if theyre out later in the day. Gotta do it early and that noise sucks in neighborhoods but id rather everyone stay safe and healthy. If its a cooler area, waiting till 9 is considerate

IndependentFast8101

Sames! But we have a battery operated one, cause our shop takes up most of the back yard and then the drive way is covering the side of the house and wraps around the front. So it takes 20 mins tops to mow. Plus battery powered mowers are wayyyyyy quieter than regular gas mowers!!

Old_Tangerine_6990

Do yall think everyone works M-F 9-5 lmao I wEnT 2 KoLLeDge My SLeEp mOrE imPortAnt

Joshfumanchu

Ablest thinking. You may need to learn how to soundproof your own home. Then if they can still overwhelm your soundproofing, take issue. Otherwise, you would have to be kind of silly to think the world owes you quiet or to choose what you do or do not want to hear. I have my home (\*standard two story condo) soundproofed via wall hangings and Furniture placement. I don't remember the last time I ever met someone who knew how to reduce the penetration of sound from outside complain about anything noise related. That is the whole point of taking responsibility for your own comfort. It is like getting mad at someone for trimming their tree and now the sun hits your room earlier. Like, dude, get a shade. :) If you want any tips or suggestions of where to shop let me know, happy to help.

Wanda_McMimzy

It’s already in the 90s by 9am in the summer where I live. That would be a no for me

pragmatichonesty

I own a commercial landscaping company / 80 % commercial but maintain 60 residential properties as well / a rake is simply not an option / that being said we make noise as you suggested aft 8 during the week and aft 9 on weekends trying to be cognizant of the clients AND THEIR NEIGHBORS / but the stop we are at as I type this is 9 houses together / the blowers are what keeps production movng, if we were forced to rake 9 driveways, front sidewalks, rear patios, and pool decks the cost for the clients would be cost prohibitive/ not tryng t ague / just offering a different perspective

Old_Tangerine_6990

A boomer would think this way, that all the important people work 9-5 monday- Friday need more sleep than the unskilled night shifters and weekend workers because fuck us right? And boomer politicians making arbitrary rules 🤪🤠

abnormally-cliche

By your logic there is always someone with a fucked work schedule and sleeping. So we should apparently never do anything, right? No, most people do work 9-5, thats regular business hours hence why thats typically when people are allowed to make noises. Its not about “important people” its about when most of the population is working. Its not even a boomer concept you just lack critical thinking skills.

mermaidsteve8

Sometimes it’s too hot to wait til 9am.

mermaidsteve8

But probably not in Denver…wanted to add that before I get downvoted into oblivion.

Solid-Clock-7519

*laughs in overnight worker* yeah man sounds rough

Empty-Assistance9715

Exactly! *Laughing in bartender with you* Poor poor guy

total_brodel

Move out to the country and eat a lot of peaches

Immediate-Ad-6364

I get pissed when my yard guy shows up at 9. 10 is much more reasonable. lol I totally understand your frustration. Perhaps you could go talk with whomever it is about their timing. --with that said though... yes. 6:45 is too early. But I'm curious, where you live, how early in the day is it before it's too hot for outdoor work?

Grrerrb

I hate leaf blowers, they ought to be outlawed. Having said that, most people are sleeping during the coolest part of the daily cycle and that’s probably gonna be optimum for yard work, the tension between those two relatively opposed needs is always gonna be a problem.

rwv2055

I would say anytime after sunrise is good to go.

CorrectSir420

Shut your windows you fuck head, don't open your house to the outside and then complain when you hear it.

Prestigious-Mall-344

Fucking thank you......somebody here gets it

kykiwibear

There had to be an ordinance. They couldn't work on my roof or the installation of my split units before 8. And no, that's crazy. My husbands grandfather used to get up at 5 to garden, but he kept it quiet.

EntertainmentOdd6149

Around here it is acceptable to start around 8am. But not earlier.

Fine-Wonder-5984

You guys are soft! It is not outrageous to get up early and start doing work...

FamiliarAnt4043

"There should be a law"..... Lol, glad I moved out to the middle of nowhere. It's nice to live in a place where people mind their own fucking business and don't enforce their own values on others via threat of the government. And I agree - 0645 is late. Shooting light is about 0530 right now, so at 0600 there is plenty ofight available to do work. Slackers.

budgetaudiophiles

I live rural and call BS. People don’t mind their business and call for everything. The difference? They’re more stupid and don’t know the laws therefore they make them up. Murica!

Prestigious-Mall-344

I'm not sure you live rural if you have people bothering
