Make sure you buy the correct replacement keyboard and watch a YouTube video on replacement, you may need eyeglass screwdrivers for the computer screws (I have a set of tools for computers but eyeglass ones work). Ditto the dvd player, though they are less finicky about getting an exact match to original.

The person that destroyed the laptop is a huge jerk and deserves to be grounded for 30 days without any electronics.
