Lmao. I dont care what anyone says, I would much rather be us with a bright future and proper rebuild than whatever it is the kings are going for.
They say at least they're relevant, and yet we still have a more recent playoff series win. Prospect pool turned out to be mid, they absolutely shit the bed with the PLD trade, and Kopi/Doughty are pretty close to cooked. Tick tock guys!
10000%. We walked through some dark years but we're exiting the tunnel with a loaded team. 7 more top100 draft picks this summer on top of all the last few drafts.
They only have a small handful of legitimate prospects in Byfield, Laferriere, and Clarke. Turcotte looks like he might be a bust for a 5th rounder, possibly the worst player out of the top15 picks from 2019.
Compare that to Zegras, McT, Cutter, Leo, Zellweger, Mintyukov, Colangelo, not to mention all our other prospects that are showing pretty good potential (namely sidorov, luneau, clara, warren, dionicio etc etc). We outnumber them like 3to1.
Even more suck, they don't have a 2nd, 3rd, or 5th round pick for this draft year.
You can't really retool when Doughty is eating $11M+ at 35y/o for another 3 years. Buyout? lol. I'm guessing they take one last crack at the playoffs then they're going to have to go full yardsale and trade all their vets with salary retention to try to collect picks/prospects to rebuild. Kempe/Fiala/Moore will be decent trade chips at least - with salary retention they can easily pull 1st rounders and then some.
But hey, they have Jack Hughes on their team loool.
god damn that PLD contract looks so fucking bad lmao. how do they even make space to pay for Byfield?? Kids gonna get shafted like $5M max unless they raise the cap significantly.
Lame take. Hate the Kings all you want - but Dhcks ain’t seen post season in 8 years ?? Kings are regulars, but have a hard time getting past EDM…. With McJesus on EDM they have a fair shot to to the the finals if Dallas beats VGK
“Kings are regulars” sick they play a few extra games than us. They’re stuck in the mushy middle of good but not good enough and are on the verge of a front office overhaul. Ducks are in a rebuild but if all goes well start tending up over the next few years.
Living in the middle is straight up hockey hell and that’s exactly where the kings will be for the foreseeable future. You need elite players to win in the NHL and that comes with picking super high or completely mortgaging your future like Vegas
Totally agree. Kopitar and Doughty are holdovers from 2012/2014 champs - but are high salary against cap space. Blake and Luke gotta go too - it’s gonna be tough up at the Crypt for a while.
It's pretty embarrassing seeing some fans shit on them for not winning a series in 10 years when the Ducks have been FAR FAR worse and have 0 cups to show for it when the Kings had 2.
It’s the fact they have 4 while not even sniffing the playoffs in the last 6 and the kings have 0 while making the playoffs way more, that’s all it’s about
As they should after winning 2 cups. That's why they are in this position. It's so sad to point and laugh at them after 2 cups in 3 years. Like, no shit they are bad now. We're just bad with 0 cups to show for it.
We won the cup before the Kings did. The Ducks the first team to bring it to California, something the Kings will never be able to do for the rest of human existence.
Reminds me of Angels fans shitting on the Dodgers for choking in the playoffs.
The Angels haven't made playoffs since 2014 and haven't won a playoffs game since 2009 lol
I feel more bad for them than any sort of good about them losing.
They're trapped in the doldrums of mediocrity. Good enough to not suck, bad enough they can't get past 1st round.
If I was an LAK fan I'd be pretty annoyed at the Front Office for giving PLD/Fiala those fat contracts that extend way past Kopi/Doughty's expiry. They shoulda lined it up for a clean rebuild once those two retire.
Instead, they'll have not just one but TWO untradeable contracts. Fiala has a NMC and will be 34 during the last season, and PLD is trash and somehow getting paid even more than Fiala. Kempe is probably the only good contract; $5.5M for a 75pt guy on a 1-3-1 low scoring team lol - he's putting up 80-90 on any other team. If I'm his Agent, I'm trying to move to the Ducks after 25-26' lmao.
If they're smart they'll bridge Byfield with amenable terms then pay him when Doughty/Kopi are gone, but then they're gonna be stuck with Fiala/PLD in their twilight years so it's a tough pill to swallow.
Not surprised. The Kings were pretty clearly not good enough to go far.
What does surprise me is everyone celebrating. Our 1st round pick from Edmonton will now be about ten spots worse than it would’ve been otherwise. I hate the Kings, too, but I’d gladly let them win a round for a significantly better pick.
You’re right, I was ignorant of the process. That said, I still would have preferred they lose to avoid the possibility of them making it to the final four or SCF, which would result in a worse pick.
>Our 1st round pick from Edmonton will now be about ten spots worse than it would’ve been otherwise.
EDM was 9th in the overall standings, so at worst (if they win the cup) the pick drops 8 spots. If they don't win the cup, but do make the WCF, the pick drops 5-7 spots. If they lose in round 2, there's no difference.
So the range is between picks 24-32, and plenty of opportunity for it to not be a big difference.
They've got like 5 more years of PLD.
LMAOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
FOGJDOFIGJFDOIJ What a fucking clown organization. They gave 3 key players for a worthless one instead of the fucking GOALIE that they desperately needed.
We can compare ducks v kings all day..
But something is very wrong with the Kings state of hockey. Idk if it was rushed development, sytems not playing the want (1-3-1 was effective aginst slower teams like us) but it will be an interesting watch for this offseason. Alot of friends that are kings fans are calling for blakes head and for them to burn it down and redo it.
I put my money on Marc Bergivan being the next GM personally.
Edit: i swear if they give the calder to -40 Bedard and not Faber its 100000% rigged.
Don’t forget this: the last time a Canadian team won the cup was in 1993 Habs v Queefs. Otherwise Oh Cantada, we stand on guard for thee!!
The only time I root for a Canadian team is when they play the queefs … WTG Oilers!!! Thanks.
Unpopular opinion but as a hybrid Stars / Ducks fan, I couldn’t care less about the Kings, they’re alright to me. It’s the Golden Knights I can’t stand
I literally had to look it up to believe it for myself, that they have not won a single playoff Series since their last Cup win. Wow! Seems like everyone is always so high on them.
Ducks need to get back to the dance.
I hope that everyone panning the Kings are self aware enough to recognise the Ducks aren't too different to how the Kings were not long ago.
All of the "proper rebuild" comments are completely ignoring that the kings had one of the top prospect pools right up until they used that prospect pool to begin acquiring players like Fiala - which is almost exactly what the Ducks should do (well, except we probably wont get a Fiala). PLD is an overpay and cost supporting players, but in the end he's basically a younger Terry but costs a little more and scores a little more. We're overpaying Killorn - every team overpays someone.
We'll see what both teams look like after this offseason, but... yeah I wouldn't go too hard on bagging them. Their not that different and they actually made the post season.
They never did a proper rebuild, they reloaded within like 2 years so that kopitar and doughty could be in the playoffs again.
After Kempe first round in 2014, here are the kings first rounders each year:
2015 - no one (top pick erik cernak)
2016- no one (kale clague)
2017- gabe vilardi
2018- rasmus kupari
2019- turcotte, bornfoot (shoutout to kaliyev)
2020- byfield (shoutout to faber and laferriere)
2021- brandt clarke
2022- no one
2023- no one
A proper rebuild but only ever had 1 season with an extra first. Lol, lmao even
Now taking a peek at the ducks, we have 2014 with nick ritchie (sad pasta miss)
2015- jacob larsson
2016- mqx jones, sam steel
2017- no one (top pick max comtois)
2018- isac lundestrom
2019- zegras, tracey (shoutout lacombe)
2020- drysdale, perrault (shoutout colangelo)
2021- mctavish (shoutout zellweger)
2022- mintyukov, gaucher (shoutout luneau)
2023- leo carlsson
See how much more often we hit on multiple guys? How we started drafting high maybe a year after them, but are continuing to draft high even into 2024? Theres a helluva lot more firepower and depth in our system
Not sure why you kept the Ducks bad picks in this and didn't include LA's comparable picks.
Akil Thomas was highly touted for the kings once and he's easily comparable to Tracey, Perreault or Gaucher. Mikey Andersen is extraordinarily average, but still plays for them (sometimes) and is better than Larsson was for us. You also missed Helge Grans who was nicely touted at the draft and was traded. He was comparable to LaCombe who you've included for us. Spence is a 2019 pick who plays for them and is comparable to LaCombe and the like. Matt Roy was one of their picks and he's very likely to be a UFA target for the ducks this offseason (right shot R shut down D).
Which is kind of my point - they did get a lot of picks and had a highly rated pool. Unfortunately prospects don't work out or get hurt (Turcotte really hurts for them). A lot of ours haven't (and wont) pan out as well.
The trades they made (Faber and a lateish 1st for Fiala) are all the type of trades that the Ducks will make if they want to take the next step. We're just haven't been at that point yet - given Verbeeks comments about playoffs we might start seeing these trades though. We'll see whats left after those. Because young 30 goal, 70 point players don't come along often, and you have to give to get.
I'm not denying that the Ducks have been worse for longer and had less on-ice talent to work with, leading to more picks. But we haven't seen the stage were we make trades for talent and the bulk of our picks haven't been in the system long enough to fail. Let's see what everything looks like once we have made the trades and are a playoff team before raging on any other teams.
Yes we do. We live in Socal, transplant central. Next time you're at a Ducks/Oilers game at Honda Center let me know if the Ducks fans can out cheer the Oilers fans in the building.
New Yorkers are maybe the biggest source of transplants here as well as Chicago and Philadelphia. Hell my own relatives moved to SoCal from Philadelphia.
It's nothing but Yankees fans at Angels games and I remember Didi Gregorious getting a standing ovation from all the Yankees fans at the big A. Even at Dodgers stadium, Yankees fans take up half of the crowd.
The Lakers are supposedly the most popular team in SoCal and even Knicks fans make up half the crowd when the Knicks come over to Staples.
I don't know where the hell all of these Oilers fans came from and there's a ton of them at Staples Center and in DTLA during Kings Oilers playoffs series too.
However in my day to day normal life I don't see any Oilers fans but am much more likely to have Kings fans among my friends, peers, and coworkers.
However my first Ducks game was a Ducks vs Oilers game in 2014. It was majority Ducks fans although there was a good number of Oilers fans throughout the arena. Ducks dominated the game 5-2 so the Ducks fans were electric and the Oilers fans were quiet. Was thrilling to see the Oilers fans leave the building with very sad faces.
Granted the Ducks were cup contenders that season and the Oilers were still in their 10 years playoffs drought. Once the Oilers got good and were in the playoffs then yeah way more of their fans showed up and made Anaheim looked like Edmonton.
I have never met a single Oilers fan in my personal life. However the majority of hockey fans in my personal life including one of my best friends growing up are Kings fans.
No matter how many Oilers fans come to Honda, I doubt any of them live here anyways. Cheaper to fly to Anaheim for a game for many of them than to attend games in Edmonton.
Lmao fraud ass team hasn’t won a series in 10 years.
Lmao. I dont care what anyone says, I would much rather be us with a bright future and proper rebuild than whatever it is the kings are going for. Prospect pool turned out to be mid, they absolutely shit the bed with the PLD trade, and Kopi/Doughty are pretty close to cooked. Tick tock guys!
Ducks won 4 playoffs series since the Kings last won a playoffs series and that's including the Ducks 6 year playoffs drought lol
That...is wild.
No we’re talking about the kings. 🤣 /s
Better to have a bright future than to constantly lose in the first round. Bright future means soon to come Stanley Cup.
10000%. We walked through some dark years but we're exiting the tunnel with a loaded team. 7 more top100 draft picks this summer on top of all the last few drafts. PLD contract may send them back a decade
I would trade 10 years of no series wins for 2 cups. We won't win a series in 10 years for 0 cups.
Cringe but go off
The truth is cringe? You think we win a playoff series in the next 2 years?
They’ll be in the playoffs by then so yes
Why not?
Lame take. Hate the Kings all you want - but Dhcks ain’t seen post season in 8 years ?? Kings are regulars, but have a hard time getting past EDM…. With McJesus on EDM they have a fair shot to to the the finals if Dallas beats VGK
6 years for the Ducks. Red wings is on an 8 year drought. Sabres has the longest and their drought is currently at 13 years.
Not talking about other failed franchises.
Since when did the wings became a failed franchise lol. But as bad as the ducks drought is, it's not 8 years bad yet.
“Kings are regulars” sick they play a few extra games than us. They’re stuck in the mushy middle of good but not good enough and are on the verge of a front office overhaul. Ducks are in a rebuild but if all goes well start tending up over the next few years.
First round pick over first round exit amirite
You like to conveniently ignore why they are in that position. 💍💍
Living in the middle is straight up hockey hell and that’s exactly where the kings will be for the foreseeable future. You need elite players to win in the NHL and that comes with picking super high or completely mortgaging your future like Vegas

We’ve become such a pitiful fan base
It's pretty embarrassing seeing some fans shit on them for not winning a series in 10 years when the Ducks have been FAR FAR worse and have 0 cups to show for it when the Kings had 2.
Ill shit on the kings every chance i get
Don’t worry, we know.
The ducks have won what, like 4 series since the kings last did? Thats in a span where the ducks have been absolute dogshit for 6 years
Problem is the last series the Kings won was a second cup in 3 years. Who cares about 4 series wins in 10 years?
It’s the fact they have 4 while not even sniffing the playoffs in the last 6 and the kings have 0 while making the playoffs way more, that’s all it’s about

We won the cup before the Kings did. The Ducks the first team to bring it to California, something the Kings will never be able to do for the rest of human existence.
No one on this team was old enough to even remember the Ducks winning the cup. We're talking about the last 10 years...
Reminds me of Angels fans shitting on the Dodgers for choking in the playoffs. The Angels haven't made playoffs since 2014 and haven't won a playoffs game since 2009 lol
[Kings fans be like.](https://youtu.be/Rfe_q-Y0cBM?t=5)
I ain’t about to laugh at them from the gutter.
lmao I will
I feel more bad for them than any sort of good about them losing. They're trapped in the doldrums of mediocrity. Good enough to not suck, bad enough they can't get past 1st round. Perry goes another round, just had his 201st playoff game tonight #10 #DuckAlways
Even on a non-Ducks team, he still terrorizing the Kings lol
Nice rebuild!!! Can’t wait to own them for the foreseeable future
beautiful
lol regicide
upvote party!!!! FTK!!!

Getting a better 1st round pick would have been way better. The Kings suck, they would have lost next round.
Not true, only the last 4 spots are decided by playoff results.
We are all assuming they make it to the conference finals.
You’re right, I was ignorant of the process. That said, I still would have preferred they lose to avoid the possibility of them making it to the final four or SCF, which would result in a worse pick.

Actually 7 more years starting next year. They signed him for 8 years lol
LMAO PLD's the gift that keeps on giving.
This brings me so much joy! 😂😏 That PLD trade really fucked them over 😂
Couldn’t have happened to a better group of guys

As an OG Ducks fan, I still hate the Sharks the most.
Love to see Perry and Henrique having fun chasing a cup!
Praise be.

Must be cool to root for Perry on two teams you're already a fan of.
Doesn’t this make our pick from Edmonton worse? Or not yet
I literally had to look it up to believe it for myself, that they have not won a single playoff Series since their last Cup win. Wow! Seems like everyone is always so high on them. Ducks need to get back to the dance.
When I saw the result this morning, my face had a huge smile. Greatest thing to wake up to in a while. Bye LA Bye!

Would have much rather seen the Oilers lose.

Same prob
