If you're in the US, then I suggest Ancestry, because it has the largest database. You can download your files and upload them free of charge to MyHeritage, Family Tree DNA, and GEDmatch.
yep my mum didn’t know her granddad or great grandmother, using ancestry’s dna matches and public trees i was able to narrow it down to the most likely people. the bigger the family (some had 15 kids or more, the harder it is to figure out) but finding the right generation in the right family has been easiest on ancestry for me.
My sister did a DNA test through 23 and Me and was looking at it and one of my maternal cousins shows up as sharing 10.43% of my sister's DNA. This would be my mom's eldest brothers daughter. Does this mean my mom and her brother are full siblings?
1st cousins share in the region of 12.5% dna so it seems about right. You can put your number of cms in here to get most likely relationships https://dnapainter.com/tools/sharedcmv4
I’ve only done Ancestry, but I can tell you that had it not been for one of my bio grandfather’s grandchild doing a test, I would have never figured it out. I didn’t even join to find this man - I just wanted to see my ethnicity results.
The match showed up as a potential half first cousin, or half 1st cousin 1x removed. I knew all my other bio grands and the only one missing was my Dad’s bio father who he never knew. No name, location, anything.
Hopefully when you get your matches the same happens for you.
If you can afford it, do both Ancestry and 23 & Me. I have different family branches that have popped up on one or the other, but not both. Cast a wider net! And with Ancestry starting to put so many features behind paywalls, I’d do them sooner rather than later.

Thank you! Will do!
LivingDNA is worth an upload too.
