Insecure!! I always describe it as the black, millennial, LA SATC. Just some young women who are finding themselves, their partners and each other. There's sex and there's city, just a different city. Also Natasha Rothwell is playing the funniest character ever.
Also, I totally get throwing in the towel with AJLT if you're trying to watch it on your own. I loved watching each episode as it dropped and then ripping it apart on here, but I wouldn't just sit down and watch the show, it just isn't enjoyable.
Just a heads up - donât get your hopes up for Insecure. Itâs kind of like Black Twitter hot topics translated into television. You said youâre looking for some joy and I wouldnât really describe it as that, even with its entertaining moments. I donât particularly find it to be a good quality show but a lot of people do, so YMMV. My unpopular opinion.
Super unpopular, I thought Issa was inspiring with how she humanizes relationships and her career progression was interesting. It showed how different women behave in different relationships, especially when they challenge their opinions and identity. I love Insecure
I love Younger! Itâs so good!
OP could also try The Bold Type. The protagonists are a bit younger (literally, not fake younger! đ) and it does cover some more serious issues at times than Younger, but itâs not dissimilar (setting is a magazine rather than book publishing) and is still a fun watch.
Carrie one on one with Che actually had some really good moments. I think they just dropped the ball with the romantic storyline with Che and Miranda, which was obviously a big part of the story sadly.
Itâs one of those shows (along w SATC, The Sopranos, and The Good Place) that I wish I could forget so I could experience that first watch all over again đ
I will probably watch it until they all end up in nursing homes just for the nostalgia of it all. Mindy Project is a perfect choice btw. Not similar to SATC but parks and recs is a great show.
* **Hacks**: Itâs on HBO, itâs funny, about an older Las Vegas comedian (think Joan Rivers type) who hires a young comedian to write for her, and their relationship.
* **Girls5Eva**: itâs on Netflix where I am. Itâs about a 90s girl group who get back together in their 40s. The seasons and writing get stronger as it goes. If you liked Kimmy Schmidt or Mindy Project, youâll like Girls5Eva
* **AJLT**: just watch one every week or so and then come here and revel in our shock and collective shame.
Yes, itâs awful! Ha. I didnât finish season 2. Couldnât even hate-watch it because it was just so cringy and none of the characters even remotely resembled their former selves whatsoever.
I love the Mindy projects I must have seen it 20 times.
The middle is quite fun, give it a try, I bet you will love it after 3 episodes even if it's about a family and not sex
Happy endings I liked too
Kitchen confidential - with Bradley Cooper before he was famous
No activity was pretty funny
Superstore! Of course, huge mindy project vibe
The unicorn is only 2 seasons but I loved it. Very sweet
U can watch all of it free if u Google fmovies and have an ad block extension on your browser
Carrie has the absolute worst taste in decorating! Her âjewel boxâ was bad enough, but now she has that amazing new apartment and the few things sheâs brought in already look terrible! Sheâs going to ruin it!
I will mention that there are episodes that evoke the original show and got me to the end. Also felt season two was palatable compared to the first season. Yes there's cringe but there's also some lovely work by SJP and Che away from Miranda is actually not horrible. Give it a try and watch to the end.
Just watch it! It counts as penance. Every time I sin, my local priest makes me watch an episode and say two Hail Marys for who Miranda used to be.
This made me LAUGH as I was raised super Catholic thank you đ¤Łđ¤Ł
But do you follow that with your Shower of Shame?
Only when Aidan shows up to whine about his kids.

Yeah itâs torture lmao. I need something Iâm not fast forwarding through. Iâd rather read this forum tbh haha
Just hate watch it like the rest of us! Haha!!đ¤Łđ¤Ł
I don't think I could binge-watch. It was hard enough getting through all the episodes when we had a whole week between them.
This is the right answer. I LOVE Insecure
I loved Insecure and Iâm so surprised it doesnât get mentioned more on this sub. Itâs the millennial version of SATC.
Girlfriends â> insecure is the right move. Honestly do both
How cool! Thank you!! đ

Yeah, I recognize my opinion is in the minority! Iâm glad you love it!
This! I love this
I watch it for the cringe at this point lol
Yeah I get that I just need some joy lmao
Honestly I was at that point too and then I remember it picking up later on in the season. It was still cringe, but better cringe
It improves a lot as season 2 goes on. I think from about episode 7. I was even laughing out loud a few times. Maybe keep going?
Younger! Very silly and fun, great outfits, set in NYC.
Younger is extremely underrated. Created by Darren Star - same as SATC.
LOVE Younger!!! Yes OP please watch. It is so, so funny.

same, I started re-watching SATC instead
But doesnât it ruin the experience knowing what they turned into?
Not the person you asked, but I already pretend the movies aren't canon because I refuse to acknowledge Smith and Samantha breaking up so no đ
Wouldnât be the first time I had to compartmentalize seasons of a show (see: the Netflix reboot of Arrested Development)
Donât quit! If I can make it through so can you. I believe in you đ
I do feel like the second season got better as it went on⌠or maybe I just tolerated it better lol
Same, the more they leaned into Che being a villain the better it got lol
Carrie one on one with Che actually had some really good moments. I think they just dropped the ball with the romantic storyline with Che and Miranda, which was obviously a big part of the story sadly.
That storyline shouldâve never been made. Never ever.
Desperate Housewives - has some sore subject matter here and there, but consistently maintains a lighthearted tone and optimistic nature.
Omg I LOVE DH def was on my mind

I'm sorry. I can't. Don't hate me.
Ahahahah!!
That sucks because the second season actually gets really good. Very reminiscent of old school SATC (boyfriend of the week type storylines.)
Thanks for letting me know!
Really good? NahâŚ
Harlem, The Bold Type, Younger
I was done after S1ep2. I was annoyed with everything about it.
Check out Sex Lives of College Girls. It's written/created by Mindy Kaling so you might like the vibe.
girlfriends, fleabag (ish), schitt's creek, ted lasso, modern family
Yes, itâs awful! Ha. I didnât finish season 2. Couldnât even hate-watch it because it was just so cringy and none of the characters even remotely resembled their former selves whatsoever.
Try Mr. Queen -itâs a k drama (comedy actually) but so, so funny and well written. Nothing like it.
Actually season 2 was better stick with it
It actually gets better as the second season goes on. I think itâs a fun escape of a show even if itâs far from well-written.
I love the Mindy projects I must have seen it 20 times. Loot (apple tv)
LOVE that show
same!!! itâs so good. Iâm about to start S2!
Girls is amazing if you havenât seen it yet
Still bummed Big is gone

I donât blame you. The show is kinda terrible but for some reason I canât stop watching the shit show!
Check out a show on Peacock called âwe are lady partsâ too itâs đ
hbo girls!
AJLT is all fictionalized *dream* stories Carrie is writing at this point. Not "reality." Lol
Harlem, great show!
I think most of us had the thought of quitting it, itâs just that we also want to see how bad it gets đ
Harlem, Younger, Girls. These 3 shows are all pretty amazing, I think girls is less lighthearted than the other two.
Peace âđž
Lovesick, The Gentlemen (series), The Bear, Abbott Elementary, The Outlaws, Marvelous Mrs Maisel, Bridgerton
đ¤˘Mindy project? Bye.
I haven't seen the Mindy project. How is it
Noone cares bye đ
