LittleOne-Nova

It won't àpply until you get a wetsuit but to catch a very fast sea creature you hover over the bubbles using just the joystick, not a to swim. Then dive. I just learned this and it's helped a lot

diandujour

Wow TIL

Party_Pomplemousse

Mvp thank you for this one

LittleOne-Nova

You're welcome!

Vinfinity86

I wish I knew Resident services cannot be moved

diandujour

The first time I played I was making grand plans terraforming & then finally went to resident services & discovered the building can’t be moved. Lel

Vinfinity86

I feel your pain. What a total let-down

ZealousTea4213

Wait HUH 😨

Then-Attention3

Whatttt?

Helucian

So much this. I chose one where it was very close and off centred to the airport thinking I could eventually move it. Could not. But then when upgrading my switch the island and save data didn’t transfer properly so I had to restart my island anyway which was a happy miracle

Vinfinity86

That *is* a happy miracle. If I had to restart my island, I'd definitely try choose an island where the airport and R.S. are better in line.

Helucian

Yeah I was so upset at first when I went to play and realised I had lost everything causing my 5* island and progress. I had like 300 hours in. But then realised I could pick a location for RS and my river mouths and was mostly over it hahaha

Vinfinity86

Is there anything you are needing? I'm willing to help you out if you're real far behind

CleetusnDarlene

I wish it could be. I've restarted a few times and now I usually only pick a map that's right next to the airport. I've designed my current island around the placement of that, since it can't be moved, and Isabelle yells at me for having "too many items" but it looks like a legit neighborhood around there lol. Leave me alone lady!! 🤣

bcdog14

Let yourself progress slowly and don't try to get it done all at once. This game is like a good novel that you wished you'd not read so fast and gave yourself time to savor it instead.

myolliewollie

this^^^ even if all you wanna do if decorate, your plans will change as the island takes on a theme and life of its own.

perfidious_snatch

When you dig up the gold spot you can plant money and get a money tree! It took me an embarrassingly long time to figure that out.

MattLocke

To add on to this, you can then dig up the baby money tree and plant it somewhere else. Instead of hunting for your money tree and slowly filling your island with randomly placed trees, you can make a mini money orchard with them all in a row.

Charming_Count4818

Also, you dig up 1k. Don't bury that in the glowing hole, but a bag of 10k. It'll yield 3 10k bags, instead of 3 1k bags! 10k is the biggest amount you can get.

deus_hex_machina

you can also plant 30k bells and there’s a chance (i don’t remember exactly, but no more than 25%) that the tree will yield 3 30k bags!

MattLocke

The chance is complicated by what you put into it. But 10K-99k triggers the highest level or return. 70% to get three 10K bags. 30% to get three of exactly what you put in. So YES you have a chance at getting three 99K bags from a tree. But doing the math it’s simply smarter to just put in 10K for the guaranteed 30K back. Otherwise 70% of the time you lose 66K.

deus_hex_machina

it’s not necessarily a “smart” choice for beginners, just like it’s not necessarily smart for beginners to drop bands on turnips either—but once you’ve played for a while and have enough resources to replenish your funds with hot items etc, it’s not a huge risk that will set you back. personally, i find this gambling element fun :) to each their own

PTSDeedee

r/theydidthemath

mistress_of_none

Ohhhhhhh I haven't been paying attention to how much my trees are yielding and I have only been planting 100 bells! I feel pretty sheepish.

Tishacombs

Whaaaaat?! I did Not know this. I thought it had to stay in the same hole until it fully matured.

Guilty_Explanation29

I put a flimsy shovel in thinking it would become golden

diandujour

Lol this is so cute

Guilty_Explanation29

In wild world that's what you did so I was like ok

Shimmermist

I'm adding to this as well, you don't have to bury just the 1000 coins you get from digging up the gold spot. You can add larger amounts. I don't remember what the limit is, but plant 10,000 gold and the money tree will have 30,000 gold on it when it is grown.

Puzzled_Toe_9204

Golden roses are the ultimate thing. Get black roses. Water them Get 2nd gen black roses. Sometimes when it rains you'll get a golden rose from them, but further on you can get a gold watering can and breed them. I have sooo many. And also like 4 million bells in the bank 😂

globallyloved

are they worth a lot of money?

Puzzled_Toe_9204

They sell for a thousand bell. So if you have 100. Its 100,000 every 3 days.

Error_404_Account

Flowering breeding is a little more complicated than just that. One part that was left out from the above comment is you have to water the black roses with the golden watering can in a semi-specific way at least once (or get a black rose that's been watered by a golden watering can from another player). Additionally, gold roses do not multiply like regular flowers. They can breed with other roses, however. There are guides regarding flower genetics, if you're interested, OP. I quite enjoy flower breeding myself.

ARCTICGRRL

Someone here mentioned that watering the black roses with a golden water can produce gold roses. They were correct. I had a few grow on their own to my surprise, but then I used the gold method, and my whole black harden grew gold roses in every empty spot. Pretty cool

CelesteJA

This game has the most handholding beginning of all the AC games, so it doesn't matter that you don't know how to play, because the game itself will teach you. Literally, Tom Nook, Isabelle and the other villagers will tell you how to play the game and give you tips.

PostersAreHuman

When you give your villagers presents, there's a chance that they will give you a photo of themselves; I wish I knew that before I let my first villagers go; on my new island, I'm not letting anyone leave until I get their photo

NickWalrus

And you can order a poster of any villager on the atm shop thingy by adding them to a scene at the photoshoot place on the other island (sorry I haven't played in a while and the names are escaping me)

mpc2020

Harv’s island! You take a picture using the in game camera with your villager in it. I love the posters. They’re so cute

sPEedErMEiN

Be mindful of where you place buildings because it's a pain to move them later! Seriously, I just tossed the tents down willy nilly at the beginning and then they became buildings and I realized how dumb that was lol rearranging everything was such a headache.

theconfused-cat

Things I wish I knew the day I started my island: 1) The color of the airport differs. I would have restarted to get a color I prefer for it. 🥹 2) You can get up to 8 items per rock you hit if you dig holes behind and beside you to prevent you from bouncing back from the hits. Alternately, a tree or item in the way work to support you from falling back. 3) If you hit a rock with food in your belly, it will crush the rock, eliminating your ability to get multiple hits per rock. 4) If you sit on a toilet, the food in your belly will… move through your digestive tract and eliminate. 🤣 That’s all I can think of for now! Dont put pressure on yourself after seeing peoples awesome islands on here, either. It takes lots of time, and the process is the fun. (:

Coujelais

You can also get rid of food in your stomach by digging up some trees and just replanting them

theconfused-cat

That’s my typical method. I was so excited to find out about the toilet recently. 🤣

JM3DlCl

I'll take the extra 2 mins to go to the bathroom like a normal "human" because that's hilarious

TBurchard16

I was today years old when I found out I can take a dookie in Animal Crossing. New morning ritual unlocked

theconfused-cat

And PS your neighbors won’t knock just cause you’re on the toilet. 🤣

sarugh3457

Adding to this to say make sure not to break your rocks the first couple of days!! I broke several of mine at first thinking it was what we were supposed to do and then had to wait for them to respawn to get the materials needed for me to progress.

aeka_hime

This: villagers will wear clothes and display random objects you give them in their houses, so think well before gifting

veronavillainy

It’s also possible to reset their clothing by choosing “discuss a resident” at resident services! Not sure about the decorations, though - you might need the DLC for that.

aeka_hime

Talking to Isabelle only resets custom designs. If it's normal clothes they only change temporarily.

Coujelais

Same goes for “delivering” presents from other villagers or selling them creatures—I always say no.

TheAngryNaterpillar

I always sell them the first creature they ask for. Everyone deserves a lil pet :)

Coujelais

That’s a cute way to think of it, but I don’t want everybody’s pet to be a Seabass like I would like to curate what kind of pet they’re gonna have in their house. I hate when the interiors get all junked up lol

TheAngryNaterpillar

Lol fair. I don't tend to keep seabass I throw them back for more expensive fish so most ask for something a bit more interesting. I see it as them choosing their own pet, I find it adorable even if it doesn't fit their aesthetic. They're not allowed any other furniture though. Or clothes. In every way except pets they bend to my will.

purpldevl

This comment further shows that this game is just curation and dollhousing lol

ursidaeangeni

All my villagers have pet fleas because whenever I catch a flea off of them, I gift them that flea lmao They are displayed in a tiny upside down cup on a piece of paper in their house.

bobby19jones

This is absolutely hilarious 🪰

southernwinter

So many of my villagers have actually asked to buy the flea that I just saved them from 😑

Rikafire

That goes away if you redesign their home.

Basic-Opposite-4670

at one point Agnes offered to give/sell me anything in her house. I’ve never had it happen to anyone else yet but I hope it does because it’s pretty cool when it does. Yeah she didn’t have much though so all I did was ask for my wooden block bed back and then I just gifted it back. She didn’t seem very happy.

aeka_hime

Oh yes, that has also happened a few times here, just not with the only one that came heavily gifted 💀 still waiting for the day

trixie2426

This happened with Annalise for me. I asked for all the stuff back that I gave her that didn’t match the beach vibe of her house. She got pretty snotty and commented that it was weird to ask for the gifts I gave her back. She also commented that she felt like I was buying everything from her and she was going to have nothing left.

SweatyPool1170

Yeah but you can fix it if you have the DLC, then you can redesign their home entirely.

veronavillainy

Honestly, I wish I *hadn’t* known so much when I started the game. I already went into it wanting certain fruit/layout/etc., and it ruined the relaxing experience for me. (This was also during COVID so I was definitely projecting a little onto my island lol 😅). I wish I had gone in more open to whatever was in front of me. The game will give you a ton of tips, and there are plenty of guides/let’s plays out there if you get confused! Still, there are a couple of things I *did* wish I knew: - Resident Services cannot be moved. I’d recommend choosing an island where it that isn’t *super* close to the airport, to give you more freedom to decorate. - Your island flowers are determined by your birth month. I tried resetting for an hour to get flowers that were not possible 😂 - Your first few villagers have set personalities, so if you’re looking for someone specific, you might not be able to find them until later in the game. I won’t spoil the specifics, but same principle as above lol. - There are “sister” fruits and flowers (they’ll show up in specific circumstances in the game without you having to use Nintendo Online/visit a friend for them). Sister fruits are random, and sister flowers are based on the month your island is founded in. - On fruit and flowers: you can get up to three different fruits in the game without having to visit a friend/use Nintendo Online. Your native fruit, your sister fruit, and one additional fruit that you’ll get in the mail. Sometimes the mail fruit and your sister fruit are the same, but sometimes you get lucky and they’re different!

Coujelais

I don’t know about the flower thing because I haven’t changed my birthday and I have two different switches one has lillies and the other has tulips.

veronavillainy

There are multiple options for each month, I think 3-4? I know my birth month has three, and I’ve restarted so many times that I’ve had all of them lol

Coujelais

Gotcha

rxmuslupin

I’ve been playing for a while but never heard of this sister fruits and flowers thing! Can you explain more please : )

veronavillainy

Yes of course! I tried to be vague so as not to spoil things but I totally get how my wording was confusing lol 😅 So the “sister” fruit and flower will show up on mystery island tours, mostly. These will be the only fruits/flowers that you’ll see other than your native ones. The sister fruits are random (as far as I know) but the sister flowers are based on the month you start your island in! There are a couple of other places they show up, too. On your second day, your “mom” will mail you three of a random fruit. These might be your sister fruit, but sometimes they’re different! You won’t know your sister fruit for sure until you see it on a mystery island. Tom Nook also gives you flowers as a reward (I think for donating a certain number of creatures pre-Blathers?) and I *believe* the flowers he gives you are your sister flowers - but don’t quote me on that 😂

rxmuslupin

Thanks so much, that’s so interesting! I never knew 🩷

lunarwolf2008

no way, i should change my birth month next time, no wonder i always get cosmos

Coujelais

That almost every question you have abt the game is answered on YouTube

Ambergler93

I wish I knew how expensive it was to move buildings and bridges! For bridges you have to pay to place them, pay to destroy them, then pay to build a new one. And you can't move the buildings over a couple spaces, and it costs so much to move them around. Plus you can only do one construction related task a day... Such a pain. You can put buildings in an area that you don't yet have a bridge connected to yet; the villagers will figure it out.

rebel_loves

To clarify: you can move a shop/villager's house AND construct/demolish an incline or bridge.

Ambergler93

That is so good to know!!

FriendlyPace3003

Aww how fun! Enjoy!

AdEmbarrassed9719

Choose your initial island layout carefully. You can't ever move the pier, resident services, airport, and river mouths. And the rocks on the beach of course. Any other building you can move later, it just costs bells. So you want to decide carefully and if you don't like any of the four options you are given, you can start the game over and get new choices. Only part of your island will be accessible at first. That'll change soon enough, but it can be a bit annoying at first if you don't know that ahead of time. Because of that, you might want to put the initial tents on the beach or somewhere out of the way knowing you'll probably move them later. At first, keep asking Tom Nook what you need to do, and if someone on your island suggests you do something, do it! As it's probably part of moving things along (Blathers might suggest you go visit an island with Kapp'n at some point, for example). If you're not sure what you should be doing, talk to Tom Nook and your villagers. The first time you talk to a character about something new, don't rush through it. Read their dialog. Most of the time you're told what to do, but it's easy to accidentally skip past too quickly. Things do things! Go up to items and push A, and some of them are interactive. That dust pile on the rocks on your beach is a bug you can catch. You can get things from shaking trees, but if you have a net, keep it in your hand in case a bug shakes out. Related, if you are holding a net and hold down A, it lets you "sneak" up on bugs - the net swings when you release A. Very useful for tree stump bugs, bugs that sit on tree trunks, and both Tarantulas and Scorpions. If you visit a villager and they are wearing pajamas and moping, they are sick. You can bring them medicine and it will increase your friendship with them. If you get a letter from Mom with fruit, plant it. Don't eat it. As soon as it gives you the option to get the tool ring (I don't remember what it's called really) get it, so you can switch tools very quickly. You will want to sell stuff to build up bells, but at first you'll need materials for crafting too so don't, like, pull up ALL your weeds and sell them. Leave a few at first. They'll regrow in a few days, but if you need them NOW that's no help. When you pick up an item or piece of clothing that can be bought, even if you then drop it again out of your pocket, it goes into your catalog so you can order more of it later if you want. Which means if your storage is filling up, you can get rid of stuff and order it again if you need it later. And if you need something specific, someone can give it to you without actually giving it to you - they drop the item, you pick it up and drop it again, and now you can order it yourself! Your store will generally get a specific color of an item, even if it comes in 10 different colors. So if your store has, say, a black diner chair, that's the one you will probably always have show up (though different ones might drop out of balloons or be given to you as gifts by villagers). But once you have Harv's island and the collective set up, Cyrus can change the color of things for you. For a price. Some things you can change yourself with customization kits, but Cyrus can do way more. There are a limit to how many inclines and bridges you can have on your island so keep that in mind while planning your layout. If you enjoy decorating, later on you might want to add the Happy Home Paradise DLC. It's a really fun way to continue the game once you are to the decorating part of things on your home island.

Lanuri

Thank you for your comprehensive answer! This is how I find out I could’ve been catching the wasps all along 😂

Kksula23

>But once you have Harv's island and the collective set up, Cyrus can change the color of things for you. For a price. Some things you can change yourself with customization kits, but Cyrus can do way more. Note that once you've had Cyrus customize an item in a specific color, you can then order that item in that color from your catalog (I think the only exceptions are the things you have to buy with nook miles instead of bells)

juniperismycat

That you can’t change the locations where rivers enter the ocean.

DrLemmiwinks

That if you let someone start an island on the same console as you that you can’t progress on it until they, as the main character, do certain things.

diandujour

I made the mistake of letting my daughter create her character first & then discovered the island resident representative is not a transferable designation 🫤

iRicsi15

what cannot be done when there's another character?

LexyLunaria

Don't be afraid to find and visit treasure islands if you want all the fruit trees and flowers and stuff like that, but don't just get all the furniture and clothes and stuff you want from them right away, it can ruin your enjoyment long term. You can grab a few things if you want, but don't ruin the fun of seeing whats in able sisters or nooks cranny everyday for yourself. Weather or not you get bells and nook miles tickets from them is up to you, some people find the grind for them challenging in a fun way while others find it challenging in a tedious way.

haloawsome101

What are treasure islands? Is that from capn?

LexyLunaria

No, they're islands hosted by people in the community that have a lot of free stuff. You have to have Nintendo Switch Online, and then if you go to the airport you can visit other people's islands if you put in a code. Nothing in your game with get messed up from taking things from the treasure islands, just don't take so much that you ruin the enjoyment of checking in everyday to collect things yourself. If you want to visit a treasure island, the creator Shereigna hosts them a lot, she's active on both YouTube and Twitch. Oh, and while I'm at it, don't feel the need to get the same thing that you already have in another color from there, you can buy things from your own catalog and have things recolored for you when you unlock Reese and Cyrus on Harv's island, which isn't a real island, you get a letter inviting you to his island after the 3 villagers after you and your starters move in. Sorry for how long that was, I like to be descriptive lol. Hope that helps!

rnilbog

I wish I knew that resident profiles were based on your Switch user. I started playing first on my wife’s account, so now our profiles are backwards on it and I always have to remember that when starting the game.  I also wish I’d known you didn’t have to smash a rock to get iron from it. It took us forever to get 30 iron because we kept eating fruit to smash the rocks because that’s what we thought we were supposed to do.

Poignant_Poetess

How addicting it is!! Hahaha 😃

rosepeachcat

You CANNOT rename yourself or your island, make sure to pick a name you will enjoy in the long run. Make sure to chose a map where you like the rivermouths placement, as well as the location of resident services - maybe in relation to the airport as well, if you need it to line up. Make sure you like your airport color and your starter fruit (the fruit can be eradicated from your island but it will stay on your passport. One last thing is, decide in advance if you want a no terraforming island or not. You can of course change your mind later, but it's hard to get the island back to its original state once you start terraforming.

Isaiah_xyz

The name part sucks bc i am so indecisive

rosepeachcat

tell me about it, at least in Valorant you can change your name every 90 days and I'm already keeping a list and weighing the options for my next name beacuse i don't want to get stuck with a bad name even for 90 days😅

sneaky_owl_pal

My "mom" mailed me pears at the beginning. I ate them. I wish I planted them to get more pears. Don't be like me. Don't eat mailed fruit, plant it!

MidoriMidnight

I sold my apples, and I've never seen any since! 😭

venhedis

Yeah I accidentally sold mine :') Big mistake. I would have no way of getting all the fruit if my sister didn't happen to have what I needed

reputction

That I would spend 23 years of my life dedicated to this game franchise which brought me days and nights of happiness and comfort

PTSDeedee

Same. My brother and I played the original for years!

OkAct2301

Resident services can’t be moved Pick where you place your villagers houses VERY CAREFULLY!!! 10000 bells a pop to move em after they’re placed Start farming asap! You’ll be rich! Invest in those turnips!  Have fun!

mrjollins

Always hold a net when you shake trees to catch wasps when possible sell hot items of the day especially already expensive things (I made 2 million one day) As soon as you can get a wetsuit dive for sea creatures they sell for more than bugs & fish so it can help you early on when cash is tight You can hit trees a few times without cutting them down If you talk to and give gifts to villagers every day, eventually they give you their photo There’s a special flower that only grows on 5 star islands, but beyond that there isn’t anything special so if you don’t care don’t stress and don’t change your island just to be a 5 star if you like it

haloawsome101

YOU CAN CATCH THE WASPS!!!!!!

GlorifiedSpitSucker

I, very recently (;´༎ຶٹ༎ຶ`), learned that the stone axe doesn’t cut down the trees when you hit them three times and you still get the three bundles of wood!

DiscombobulatedPart7

The special flower is the lily of the valley! It seemed I was getting them randomly, but I I just realized a couple months ago that as long as I paly 3 times a week, I'll get one.

Bright-Sea-5904

You can press B to run. Lol

mgebie

Hold B to run.

rinyamaokaofficial

If you accidentally destroy a rock, don't panic. They'll start respawning every day until the minimum amount of rocks are back on the island

dandelionmango

Maybe this is super amateur but when I started playing, I had no idea to hit rocks over and over again to get more supplies from them! I knew you could hit them once or twice but I would have progressed a little faster if I knew more came out of them. When you have a shovel you can walk up to the rocks, turn around and dig two holes in the ground, then hit the rocks over and over until you get 8 rewards! 😊

RedditJ15

Buy 5 of the cheapest items on Nook Shopping every day you play, send a few postcards whenever you visit the airport, and do the group stretching whenever you pass by resident services. Getting the Nook shopping app and those Nook miles stamps will be a lot easier.

holdingkitten97

If you bury 10,000 bells in the shiny holes instead of burying the 1,000 again, the money tree that grows will give you 30,000 bells

Meister_Ente

You can press A twice while crafting to speed up the animation. Maybe it was B. I'm not fully sure :/

purpldevl

Don't look at other peoples' islands - don't compare it to yours, just play it out and let your island develop as you want it.

Inevitable-Oil-3133

You can sprint by holding B 😊

haloawsome101

I don’t like that it took me about 20 hours of playing to realize that.

pinksparklybluebird

And make the NPCs talk faster by hitting B during their dialogue!

Terrible_Court2454

restart your game a billion times before committing to one with a layout, name, and villagers you like it makes such a difference

ellyonpoint

Take lots of Pictures of your island & villagers whenever you can! Trust me!! Going back and looking at your island’s progression is so fun once you’ve played for a while. Anything and everything you’re proud of yourself for accomplishing, take a picture! You can take pictures in game using your nook phone, or just take a screenshot with the square button on the left controller.

emilyforreel

you can shake trees multiple times to get more sticks for recipes! sometimes it takes like 5 shakes but it works

MadameCoco7273

You can go potty if you ate too many fruits! Eating fruits/veggies/dishes allows you to break rocks and dig up full trees so sometimes you realize that you don’t need a full belly so to speak. Set up a potty and go!

WiccanMama

The right shoulder button, R, will speed up text without the risk of canceling out of an interaction. Holding down A while crafting/cooking speeds up the action. B button dashes. (No, I did not know to try that.) ...and all the stuff everyone else said. I'm playing through my 3rd island (involuntarily this most recent one 😥) and I interrupted the start more times than I counted to get the rivermouths, resident services, airport & native fruit combo I wanted. Super glad my gifted & sister fruits were different this time.

mommagawn123

That you can sell more than one thing at a time or give blather more than one fossil to be assessed. (One of my kids told me, after laughing at me). Placing 15 branches, hidden away, will stop branches from spawning. (Thank you ACNH community). Time traveling backwards with turnips will make them spoil. Running around at night, with a net, is dangerous. A big one I feel, don't compare your island to someone else's. Build your island to what brings you joy.

breakfastpurritoz

To be fair, Blathers does tell you this after the museum is upgraded lol

Error_404_Account

Perhaps with the main player, but I had to find this out on my own.

_divine_sunshine

Why is running around at night with a net dangerous?

mommagawn123

Depending on the season, scorpions or tarantulas.

Rainningbunnies

Take it slow and enjoy every moment of learning the game. I wish I could go back to the day I first played. So much excitement, wonder and exploration.

Foolxy8

That wetsuits allow you to swim 😂

EmeritusMember

I bought a snorkel first thinking that would let me dive & catch sea creatures. So disappointed when it didn't work. Lol

JM3DlCl

Take your time and if your into the collecting part, download a good smartphone app that tracks and tells you how and when to catch stuff.

andiluxe

Don’t try to center an incline in front of the museum. It’s impossible!

Safe-Specialist-5109

I for one hated my island set ups tried like 3 times Dx

phytosanitary

Everyone has already given great tips. As a welcome, I offer bells, fruit, and flowers!

Isaiah_xyz

I don't have the membership so idk if I'll be able to. Thank you though!

lunamoonkittie

THIS IS THE THING I WISH I KNEW. OR THE DOCKS. YOU CAN’T MOVE THEM SO BE AWARE OF WHICH YOU PICK.

lunamoonkittie

I wish someone told me you can’t choose your fruit and flower again once you set your island. My pearing (pun) of pears and hydrangeas is actually so ugly. If infuriates me 😀🙃 but now that I have all the fruit and flowers it doesn’t as much.

Acoustic-Bird

you can’t restart like new leaf so don’t name your island something cringe (i named mine after my ex 😭)

olivia63096

you can delete the game data from the console’s settings!

theblairwitches

Amongst these other comments I would just say enjoy it. Some of these comments make this game seem stressful! If you like decoration, for sure pay attention to the advice about the initial island layout. But other than that, just take it as it goes and enjoy it. You’ll learn the rest as it comes. Some of these comments would’ve intimidated the hell out of me if this was my first experience with AC. It’s a very chilled game at its core.

Elle919

Dont stress too much about decorating in the beginning! There will a lot more features/items later on, and your “design vision” will change like a hundred times lol. Youtube videos help, but the super extravagant ones always left me feeling overwhelmed. I always found myself comparing my island to theirs. Just have fun making your own island the way you want it :)

froggy_clownkiddo871

Holding down b to walk faster! And holding down A while crafting something!

Room_Temp_Coffee

There are *so many* villagers. You won't get a picture from them all.

MaeBeaInTheWoods

- You get one island per console. You have to delete it completely to get a second one and you won't be able to get the first one back. - Selling your old save contents to give you money in the new save isn't a thing any more. - You can't move the resident services building. Place it somewhere good. - Don't try to make perfect symmetry, lots of furniture and buildings are inconsistent with each other and the game's axis. - In your first week, do as much as you can. A lot of the quests you get in that time frame will only let you do 1-2 steps a day and then you're forced to wait a day or two. - Resetti isn't around any more. Feel free to time travel all you want. - Specific game time isn't a thing any more. It's now 100% dependent on the time and time zone of your system. - Time travel is easy to get addicted on and an extremely hard habit to break. - Most of the special catalogue isn't actually FOMO like it looks. Come next year you'll be able to buy most of it again. - The absolute biggest addicting trap: Don't waste your money. Do not buy furniture you'll never put around your island, do not buy clothing you'll never wear. If you fail to follow this advice your pockets and home storage will basically always be full. At the end of every month you should put everything in your pockets in your home storage and then log what you used that month. Anything that fails the test is better off as bells in your pocket. - Villagers will spread catchphrases, and any of them can choose to wear a custom design you give to the tailors. Don't make anything specific for one villager because you can't pick and choose who'll use it.

DiscombobulatedPart7

I see Resetti in Brewster's fairly often...

swdna

Talk to Tom nook like all the time I restarted my game and realized one day that I only had 3 villagers 😅

CompleteCamel6882

Don’t limit yourself! The sky is the limit! AND HAVE FUN!! Ppl get too caught up!! Just have fun🤩😍🥹🙏🏽

karenftx1

Don't forget to hit your 6 rocks (one week always be a money rock) and get your bottle on the beach. Also, get a slingshot when you can to shoot balloons. Another tip, fruit trees will not have wasps in them. There are 15 regular trees that give 1000 bells each, 5 trees with wasps, and 2 trees with items. Shake them to get the stuff. If you need sticks, remember you can shake a tree more than once to get multiple per tree.

Restless-sleeper12

That you can craft faster by mashing B

sadmimikyu

Just hold down the button no need to mash it

Restless-sleeper12

I just find it fun to mash it

vbee23

You can hit Y to kick the dirt back over the holes once you dig something up sometimes faster than redigging lol

alreality1

That I would have to play It every day. Or I felt like I was letting my island down.

dr-egg-bitch

In New Horizons, once you get a shovel, you can hit rocks to get materials! However, one of the rocks (a different one each day) will give you money! https://preview.redd.it/x0ovfofe818d1.png?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=8ff9565a7e83b7c58ce243d7a4de12eeeb9ccc35

Jinxthegenderfluid

don’t eat or sell the fruit mom gives you.

Kindly-Bath754

Go online and look at a map of the island layout. THEN PLAN YOUR NEIGHBORHOOD IN ADVANCE SO YOU DONT HAVE TO PAY TO MOVE EVERYONE

bruhmoments1234569

use time skip if you are really itching for more things to do

Optimal_Witness4718

when you dig up money, bury 10,000 bells (the max amt) bc it will grow into a money tree with 30,000 bells total

TestImaginary7540

Don't try to rush everything. The game can be summed up in one phrase. "Rome was not built in a day." Take your time and enjoy the present. Don't get caught up trying to make your island perfect on day one, just make it the best you can for the day.

olivialemay_47

Scorpions won’t attack you unless you have a net in your hand

celestier

All the tools are breakable except the river jumping pole!!! I thought it was breakable for the longest

wintersoldier_slut

literally nothing im glad i figured stuff out myself 😭 except for the fact that i didnt know about running for months until i let my friend play and she randomly did it

Yori_PBL

Don’t eat or sell the first fruit you get from your Mom in the mail. Plant that sucker and make it multiply.

Chrisboe4ever

I wish I knew not to let Joey move onto my island.

Medical_Pea_5181

Don't just invite every villager you meet, because now my villagers are beefing and they all keep fighting. And me and anicotti keep fighting and she won't leave. Also don't share your island with a significant other because my fiance ruined my island and steals my stuff

StaringBerry

I’ve been playing AC since game cube when I was like 8yo. My advice to new players is that Animal crossing is a slow paced game! You cannot steam roll AC and it’s more relaxing when it’s slow paced. No need to rush, panic about your island quality, or compare your progress to others. Take your time and enjoy your little relaxing paradise.

Samtheluminous

Put thought into river and resident service placement. Those cannot be changed.

Physical_Kitchen_997

I wish id picked my island so it would have been easier to plan around it

camerannnnn

treasure islands are the best cheat to having a gorgeous island for free 🤑

coberine

Buy a dive suit as soon as you can. Then you won’t need a jump pole to get across your rivers, and you can hoard ocean creatures to sell without the inconvenience of breaking flimsy tools every 10 min.

mantidor

Your starting villagers won't get their default houses, they will get generic houses filled with the furniture you make and give to them. This means, even though is tempting, do not choose initially your favorite villagers, I love Aurora but her house was very plain, when I saw how her real home should look like I was frustrated, there is no way to change this unless you let your villager leave the island and find it again with the campsite/nook ticket, the thing is finding a villager again after they have been residents its **extremely** difficult, they are almost removed from the poll of choices, chances are really low, unless you hunt them down with other players and find them in boxes, or of course with the amiibo cards.

meowyuni

Instead of digging holes 6x a day for rocks I put a little fence corner around them. If you put a path underneath you can always see your rocks on the map Save at least ten of everything for crafting Keep at least one tree stump and cliff river around for catching Chase the fast sea critters into the corners Save money in the ABD and give yourself a budget every day, only pay off loans and co-ops when you have more than enough Physically write down or put in your phone a list of dailies so you don't forget after every five minutes like I do. I use ACNH Pocket Guide for everything and Nookea for villager gifts Don't feel bad if you get really into it for a while and then drop off for months, that's normal and there's no penalties for it

Promethiant

That diving for sea creatures is a much better way to make bells than fishing.

sadmimikyu

I started playing when there was no diving... Since we have it, it is the best way to get money on a daily basis because fishing rods break! The best way for me to get a lot of money We are talking 200,000+ bells in one day is farming

MinRose03

For how long I can insist on playing this game

Gassy_MFer

Blue Roses to earn bells quickly! Picking and selling them get the same 1000 bells each as Gold Roses, and are much easier to spawn. If you have a membership, find someone that will gift you a blue rose plant. Make them a best friend (temporarily unless you know them really well), and visit their island to dig the full plant up with a shovel. If you don’t have a membership, Google ACNH flower hybrids and how to work for your own blue rose plant. Once you have one, water it every day (or let rain/snow do the work for ya). Blue roses will replicate on their own with watering, whereas gold do not. Once you begin replicating blue roses plants, you can earn 10s, if not 100s of thousands of bells every other day. Your shopping habits will thank you!

sadmimikyu

Pressing Y to close the holes you dig Did not know for the longest time Also leaving your island to go someplace else will auromatically close the holes you dug. Yeah took me long enough Also did not know you have to water your produce every day to get max yield

zhangchenle

Resident services can't be moved, if a villager leaves they won't remember you if they come back

The_child_of_Nyx

You can make good money if you catch all wasps every day and sell them to flik once he comes to your island

OnceAWeekIWatch

Dont hesistate to spend nook mile tickets to get more resources youre lacking in the early game

LoneWolfpack777

That if you time travel back and forth between two dates, it will keep increasing the day counter for the “Active Island Resident Nook Miles reward. So you’d start today and say you’ve played for 300 days (which would be impossible). I’m pretty sure that alone finally turned me off from playing again. 😔

mrkrabboman

Plant. Money. Trees. !!!! I didn't know about this until about a year into playing, but when you dig up a bag of bells (usually 1k) from the glowing spots in the ground, plant money from your pocket (max I think is like 30k - I could be very wrong, I tried like 99k at one point and it didn't work lol) and it'll grow a tree that drops triple the amount you plant. It'll really help when you're paying for things like your house and bridges etc. :))))

affDee85

What a great tip!

abscissioninbloom546

you can shake trees while holding a net so if wasps come out you can catch them more easily in the older games you couldnt so i didnt know this was a thing until a few weeks ago 😭

kidwithgreyhair

if you stand in front of the tree when you shake it (net in hand), the game will turn you to face the wasps, so just hit that button and catch them quick and easy

Full-Article-3136

DONT LET FLOWERS GET TOO CRAZY. if you leave wild parts of your island weeding will be a pain

Clarklm4

Save the fruit that your mom sends you at first in the mail. Don’t eat it. Wait until you have a shovel and plant it. Also- I wish I’d had known how to time travel!

c0ast3r_fan

Always donate a bug, fish or sea creaturto Blathers (once he arrives)e when you catch it the first time. Fill your museum.

affDee85

Do I get anything in return for donating vs selling? I am also new.. just a week into the game, and Blathers is my least favorite part of this game hahaha

Nehalania

The last villager you moved in will not ask to move out until you get someone after them. You can't get a thought bubble for a villager to leave on Saturdays or days KK slider is there. Also, if it's too close to a villagers birthday they won't ask to move. If you don't like time travel, keep in mind, if someone asks to move and you talk to them and tell them to stay, there's like a 10 day cool-down before someone else will ask to move out. Likewise, if you say they can leave, it'll be another 15 days or so before someone wants to move. I think this is provided you have at least 6+ villagers.

Shiruvix

I wish I knew what the vaulting pole does. It took me so long to craft one, and by the time I did, I had built bridges to cross rivers, which took a long time. And I facepalmed when I realized I could’ve gotten more resources aged ago with that pole.

LiveLaughBlobfish

You don’t need to wait for bridges or poles to reach the other parts of the island, just use a wetsuit :)

Upstairs_Candle_5625

When hitting rocks, dig two holes in the corner of the 3x3 space around the rock so you can maximize the hits. I’ll try to draw it out a bit! H=hole, P=player, R=rock, O=open, X=item landing space so keep it clear! OHOOO HPXXO OXRXO OXXXO

lalalavellan

Shake trees with a net in your hand! If a hive drops down, smash the button to catch it.

eddmario

* Some items sell for the same price as the combined total for all their crafting materials, so if you see them as the hot item of the day, craft and sell them. * Redd will always sell 3 fake and 1 real piece of art. Additionally, there are a bunch of pieces of art that will never be fakes. You can use this to easily tell if you should spend money at his shop. * Trees won't drop anything if a certain amount of spaces around them are taken up by something, even if there's still a couple empty spaces

lunarwolf2008

choose island name wisely, cannot rename. also 10 char max

Isaiah_xyz

10 char max? That's lame

lunarwolf2008

yeah, so many amazing names not possible.

Wild-Discussion4051

don’t try to do it all in one day

LawlessOyster

Don't sell or eat the fruit your mom sends you. Plant them

gsfo__

Ahhh I hope you enjoy playing it! I have a lot of general advice, some of it might not apply for a while but hopefully it’s helpful in the future! First, don’t be discouraged if you feel like certain tasks take a while! The game is kind of grindy just by nature, some things like the critterpedia can take a lot of time, so if you feel like you’re not making as much progress as you want to, that’s okay! Along those same lines, don’t compare your island with other peoples’. I know that can be really hard cause there’s so many beautiful islands with creative themes, but that stuff takes a while to work towards! You’ll get there!! For starting out, I’d say try to work on the critterpedia and donate as many new things to the museum as you can. When you’re able, get a wet suit and hunt for sea creatures. They’re worth more than selling bugs or fish so you can get money for your loans/construction faster. If you’re unsure about what you should be doing at any point, you can talk to Tom nook and ask what to do and he’ll give you some kind of task. These do eventually run out once you have all the buildings and have upgraded everything. I didn’t do this on my island but I saw someone on another thread give this advice and I think it’s pretty good: for villager homes put them on the beach! That way, when you get to terraforming if you decide to redo parts of your island, you won’t have to spend the 10,000 bells to relocate the houses before terraforming. Obviously this is personal preference but it might save you some hassle and bells down the line. You CAN move your house, villager houses, and the shop, museum, campsite, and clothing shop but you cannot move resident services. Last piece of advice I’ll give is if you don’t already have Nintendo online, I don’t think you need it until you get farther in the game (like completing all the tasks Tom Nook gives you). Obviously this is also personal preference, if you want it earlier then by all means! But for me personally, I found that I didn’t need it until I ran out of things to do and started wanting to customize my island more. Have fun!

No-District3378

That deleting the town doesn’t give you bells in this version

The_Steambird

*sigh* I used to think you could get all the fruits without Nintendo online, so I literally used 24 NMTs before I looked it up

Matcha_yum

Villager hunting, if I had knew that I wouldnt have let victoria in My island
