These are a visual delight!! The choice of material is wicked cool. Thank you for sharing - the forms, shapes, and colors inspire me.
All that said, I’m so sorry to hear you’re struggling.
I’ve seen your posts a couple times and absolutely love your work. Unless it’s something just for you (I understand this completely), I would be interested in purchasing something. Do you sell them? Can you tell me if you have a shop or site? Thank you 🙏🏻
That's very kind of you thank you for the kind words and interest. Yes I try to have a few available each month, there's a link in my profile if you would like to have a look
Feel free to message any questions! I appreciate the interest. Yes I do, normally takes 10-14 days special recorded delivery and I always low ball the import sticker to keep any additional taxes low because fuck the man
I’m sorry you’re struggling. I’m going through a similar period. I have to say seeing your art helps me considerably so I’m glad you’re able to put your energy into it.
These are exquisite. Love the colors and shapes, and it has like 1970s decor vibes to me (which is a high compliment.) It’s just so playful and organic and cool
Thanks so much I really appreciate that. I call them "Lava Lumps" so you absolutely nailed it with the '70's feel - exactly what I was going for, Alien abstract organic type weirdness. Pleased you like! Stay groovy
Astounding. A good number of these where literally breathtaking- great work! I hope they bring you the relief and serenity (even if temporary) that looking at them brings
Nope, no paint just skateboard! Skateboards are made of 7 layers of ply and they get dyed different colours before being pressed together. Often that then gets painted over with company logos and art but I don't (/can't) paint anything. Everything you see is 100% skateboard
Edit: spelling
WOWOWOW!!! Not even what I was expecting! Wonderful fun and sustainable! Proud of you! You really flipped your medium to be something out of a dreamscape! It's lovely and would be a welcomed accessory for any room in need of your fabulous style!! I love LOVE it!! Keep going! 👍👏🌟🎉
Thank you. No, I trade my work for donations from friends, local skaters and shops. I'm wicked poor. Everyone who gives me decks gets some free art as thank you (if they want it). They pick their favourite from the stack and the rest are for me. Kind of a weird community project. I make stuff for local contests and charity stuff also to keep the good vibes going. I have been skateboarding most of my life so I started with my own old ones and it's grown from there. Very grateful people like my sculptures and keep donating
Autoimmune disorders suck! I feel your pain and frustrations❤️ Keep doing what you’re doing though. Your art is beautiful and unique, the world needs more things like this.
I always love seeing your posts in this subreddit. Your art is so gorgeous and feels so - resonating, is probably best to describe it.
I'm glad you have a method to work through what you're going through. Thanks for sharing what you create with us. Seeing it just feels really good. It's a very peaceful energy, in my experience.
But also after, it is a great inspiration to likewise try to lay down what I'm going through somewhere or in something like you've done. Seeing your posts on occasion - which are so distinctive and don't need to be checked for a username or something - make me really gladdened that you're doing the art and truly transforming your situation. I want to be able to transform it too and put in the work some day, and seeing it happen for someone just really makes me proud for them. This probably sounds so weird but I do just feel proud that you put in the work because it's hard, and I guess when I see your posts of these beautiful, beautiful art pieces - it just has such a serene feeling, that was created out of a hard time - and that is so hard to create that transformation but you did!
So here's a stranger getting a bit overly familiar perhaps but I just wanted to take some time to say: your art is beautiful and feels beautiful, thank you for sharing your art with us, for what it's worth if anything I'm proud of you, and I hope your situation and struggle eases but congratulations on transforming it in a way that helps you manage it better (and is, of course, visually gorgeous).
Hope better days head your way soon
Thank you so much for the kind words and taking the time. You got me all teared up. I'm truly flattered, humbled and honoured to have inspired some kind of creative flow for you - that's really cool.
I guess as an artist (especially in this day and age) to have created a style that is instantly recognisable and completely my own is something that brings me joy.
"The medium is the message" is a phrase that I think about quite a lot. These decks, like me were resigned for the waste pile but with the right amount of time and love and patience and help they can be something beautiful and different - that's what I'm trying to create for myself also. Struggle makes us stronger.
Sending thanks and love and luck and light to you kind soul x
I’m sorry you’re struggling right now. But these are absolutely stunning. I particularly love #9. Even in pain, we can still find beauty.
Sending supportive thoughts your way.
These are FANTASTIC they remind me of Fordite ("gems" made from the residue of car painting workshops), which I've always thought was stunning to look at. Your carving skills are amazing
Thank you. I had one (awful) gallery experience and it kinda put me off tbh. I guess if the right space was available I would consider but it's quite expensive to hire and I'm very poor. Maybe one day! There's been a few group shows locally recently and I never get asked so I'm kinda ok being on the outside, it's where I belong ;)
Sorry about your bad experience with them, completely get it. People be shitty and shit be hard at the best of times. Keep creating and sharing however you can 🤙🏻 too good not to!
I *love* the fluidity of your work! There's a guy local to me who works with old boards - Dedwood Designs - and I never tire of seeing these jewel colours in woodgrain. Keep putting beauty into the world. There's so much value in what you're doing. Thank you for sharing it. Be well, friend.
I know dedwood - big fan! It's a fairly small community of skate recycling guys so think we all keep an eye on each other. He's a proper carpenter type, I'm just a nut case! Thanks for the kind words, pleased you like them
I always really enjoy seeing your work on this sub. I hope knowing that your art brings joy to others can be a comfort during the tough times, but more than that, I hope your art brings comfort to you!
Wishing you peace in the very near future!
That's so brilliant.. have you ever done it with skateboards? I've seen a similar pattern of wood with skateboards but I forgot what it was made into..
I can't believe the shapes you're able to make with a frickin rotary tool..
Do you have a website or anything?
Thanks! I'm sorry if I wasn't clear: these are sculptures made from old skateboards carved with a rotary tool. Hopefully that makes sense! I have a social media account and an Etsy store - link in my profile if you would like to check them out. Really appreciate the interest
John Cardiel is my favourite skater - an absolute legend of a human. He's huge inspiration to me and lots of others. Check out [this](https://youtu.be/i5Du9HPPpmg?feature=shared)episode of love letters if you would like further insight. He's one of my heros
Oh ok, cool.. I am not too knowledgeable in the skating stuff.. back in the day, the guys all built a bunch of little ramps & one big one at my mom's.. There were no skate parks around & my mom's was the most secluded & most land, etc.. So many of my friends were over skating all the time.. but also the good ol original Tony Hawk Pro Skater game on the PS2 I think.. I could never skate myself, other than maybe scooting on my butt like an idiot, lol.. But I loved playing the old Tony Hawk Pro Skater... I know, it's so whatever, but that was a cool game back then.. LoL...
Anyway. Short story way too long.. LoL.. I don't know much anymore but I'm gonna take a look into the dude..
Again, thank you for all the info & your patience with my ignorant ass LoL..
No worries at all, it's all love. That game changed things for sure! I loved it too! That sounds really cool, I love the connections people have to skating even if they don't necessarily ride. Hope you enjoy the vids
I adore all of these!! They are absolutely stunning 😍 I would own one in a heartbeat. I’m sorry for your struggles but you are an amazing artist. I am happy to see someone find such beauty even in their hard times.
I’m absolutely in love with your art!!! Especially the 9th sculpture, it’s stunning. Thank you for sharing, I’m so sorry your chronic pain is wearing you down
Wow these are show stopping cool. I'm sorry to hear things have been so tough but I'm glad you're able to pour it into your art, it's amazing. I'd love to buy something from you soon!
The motion and delicateness of the pieces are so beautiful. The colors are perfectly combined. These are highly reminiscent of mid-century modern art (very much alive today).
Yes I usually have a few available each month. Here's a link to my place if you would like to see. Thanks so much for the interest
[shop](https://mobiusmaples.etsy.com)
Thanks. Respectfully, it's not really like that mate, I kinda made this style up tbh. Lots of people make lots of goods from old skateboards already, I spent a long time researching and thinking about forms and uses for the material and very consciously trying to offer something different and make my own little lane. These are born of pain, suffering and longing beyond what I can put into words. Check out GBS, it's no joke.
Using the top colour and lines in the way I do to create organic abstract type stuff is an original concept. If you would like to see the basics about skateboard recycling I recommend checking out epiclyajustin, Woby design (has a YouTube) and the grand master Haroshi.
Don't get me wrong, I'm stoked to have inspired you! This is just a deeply personal project for me and something I'm trying to provide for myself with while I'm disabled and unable to work and earn. If you want to copy the designs and technique then all I would ask is to please tag me for the inspiration so I can see and share... but ideally, if you really want one; just visit my shop and support me please. I price them very fairly and ship worldwide
I’m just curious what kind of tools or techniques you used since I’ve never seen this done. you don’t have to share if you don’t want to.
I did check out your Etsy, my intent isn’t to make sculptures like yours rather just apply the techniques to learn to make more precise cuts and stuff.
I'm just a skater mate, never had any training - that's kind of the skate "do it yourself" mentality. I use a heat gun to remove grip, jig saw to cut in and a rotary tool for the carving and initial sanding. Always open about process. Thanks for checking out my shop
These are a visual delight!! The choice of material is wicked cool. Thank you for sharing - the forms, shapes, and colors inspire me. All that said, I’m so sorry to hear you’re struggling.
If i saw this high, i would lose it
not high and losing it 🙋🏻♀️
right!?!! i just got off work and took a dab, this is tickling my brain. beautiful work!
Am High, am absolutely LOVING these.
Same I’ve lost it
I’ve seen your posts a couple times and absolutely love your work.
I’m not very good at navigating Etsy- do you ship to the US?
Feel free to message any questions! I appreciate the interest. Yes I do, normally takes 10-14 days special recorded delivery and I always low ball the import sticker to keep any additional taxes low because fuck the man
Hell yeah 🤘🏼 I shouldn’t be buying stuff right now, but I followed your profile here so that I can find you again when I’m ready. :D
Love these. Could stare at them for hours tbh. Sucks to suffer with no definite end in sight. I'm sorry.
I’m sorry you’re struggling. I’m going through a similar period. I have to say seeing your art helps me considerably so I’m glad you’re able to put your energy into it.
This sub just popped up on my feed but wanted to say, that is unbelievably gorgeous work. Great work. Hope things improve for you soon.
Stay groovy
I am so very sorry you are struggling right now. I want to thank you for sharing your art with us-made my day. These are gorgeous!
These are absolutely beautiful. I hope you feel relief soon.
I'm sorry you're struggling. I hope it feels good to share your art, it's so wonderful 🙏🏾🫶🏾🙌🏾
Astounding. A good number of these where literally breathtaking- great work! I hope they bring you the relief and serenity (even if temporary) that looking at them brings
Wow this is amazing. How do you make these?
Thank you. Mostly I carve with a Dremel. It's really very simple just takes lots of time
But the colors? Is it paint?
Nope, no paint just skateboard! Skateboards are made of 7 layers of ply and they get dyed different colours before being pressed together. Often that then gets painted over with company logos and art but I don't (/can't) paint anything. Everything you see is 100% skateboard Edit: spelling
That's so cool!!!
I couldn't scroll past these are just so captivating!! Great amazing lovely beautiful fun and fantastic job!!🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏 What medium do you use?
Thank you kindly. The medium is recycled skateboards - all these are made from used up and/or broken old boards
WOWOWOW!!! Not even what I was expecting! Wonderful fun and sustainable! Proud of you! You really flipped your medium to be something out of a dreamscape! It's lovely and would be a welcomed accessory for any room in need of your fabulous style!! I love LOVE it!! Keep going! 👍👏🌟🎉
I’m just curious , do you buy used skateboards in bulk ? Very cool work
That’s awesome and great story , your definitely giving back and delivering good vibes with your art , keep it up and keep moving forward

They are extremely tactile. I think because they are made from old and much loved toys there's lots of good energy in them
These are such a gorgeous homage to skateboarding! It’s like they’re still looping around empty inground pools and swirling around pipes. Super cool.
Amazing!
Absolutely beautiful! I love them all!

Wtf you're recovering from complete paralysis doing this stuff!? You're even more of a badass than I thought!!
All hail Cardiel
Please forgive me, what's Cardiel?
Tbh this is better but it's way longer... Still highly recommend [vice: epiclylatrd](https://youtu.be/xSESz6oU4Ss?feature=shared)

the green drippy one is my fave i said "ooooh" out loud these are cool as heck
Those are pretty
I adore all of these!! They are absolutely stunning 😍 I would own one in a heartbeat. I’m sorry for your struggles but you are an amazing artist. I am happy to see someone find such beauty even in their hard times.
These are really fuckin cool! Well done! I'm so glad I've seen these!

Are you selling the green one. I like it.
That one has gone to a very dear family friend but thank you for the interest
Yeah no problem! 😊
The motion and delicateness of the pieces are so beautiful. The colors are perfectly combined. These are highly reminiscent of mid-century modern art (very much alive today).
These are all rad af. Hope things get better!

These are SO cool, I'd buy one. They look like fun to make.
These are GORGEOUS <3 I hope that good things come your way soon <3
