It definitely is and I love this city!
From my understanding Fourth of July is often family & bbq, so as a foreign solo traveler I was looking for cities/places that also have (bigger) public celebrations for those who don’t have the family & bbq option
I mean, literally anywhere...
But I'm partial to smaller lake towns with a parade and stuff.
Pretty much every city and town throws some kind of party and fireworks.
If you're still near Chicago, anywhere along Lake Michigan is going to be a good time.
If you don’t have a friend that can invite you to a family event, Google the area for public events. Plenty of restaurants (and public services, like local Parks Dept, etc) will have things happening.
Not everyone does the big BBQ thing.
A lot of small towns in southeastern Pennsylvania do larger (proportional) celebrations, and you could turn that into a longer stay if you also want to explore Philadelphia
Chicago is as real a place in the US as anywhere else OP

Washington DC, I guess.
