Mate you’ve gotta put that shit in a playlist and then tap the button that says something to the effect of “don’t count this towards my recommendations”
They would be one of the bands I've listened to the longest out of all the ones I heard on Spotify this year.. definately believe there's a time and place for pretty much all kinds of music though. It's all art and expression..
Some days I'll go from Slayer (while on the treadmill or something) to Louis Armstrong, Edith Piaf, Ella Fitzgerald at night, reggae in the garden... All in the one day.
What are some of your other favourites?
we in the same universe
1) KGATLW
2) Led Zepplin
3) Bob Marley & The Wailers
4) Iron Maiden
5) The Who
Imma admit I've never really outgrown my adolescent music tastes. Love all that stuff and more.
Very nice, Zeppelin and Bob would probably have shown up too if it was more than top 5..
I need to become more familiar with maiden and the who I think.
Maiden is like an old version of KGATLW except they stick to their main genre of hard prog rock metal stuff. And they just keep cranking out albums. They're coming to AUS in 2024 - worth it, hellova show with killer stagecraft.
The Who - find the Live at Leeds (Expanded Edition) and crank it up to 11 when you have a chance. Enjoy.
I was actually already considering heading to that show as I just can't imagine walking away with any regrets and I'll have a new awesome band to listen to..
It's just more fitting it into the budget now after buying tickets for early next year to
QOTSA x2
Mr bungle supported by the Melvins
Gizz in Deniliquin
It's all happening again after the lull of covid - saw Tool in 2020 then nothing until this year.
Will definately heed your advice regarding the who, I'm probably familiar with more tracks than I'm aware of but haven't given the albums intentional listens yet.
Others of mine were Crowded House (showing my age here), Dire Straits (thanks mum and dad for the childhood memories there) and The Police. I listen to Spotify all day at work through my computer so I tend to put on playlists with oldies on it. I do like some alternative new stuff, but for easy to listen to background music it’s the classics for me.

I had Jimmy Barnes as my number 1 artist. 4 of my top 5 were Australian artists for that matter: Barnsey, INXS, Midnight Oil, The Screaming Jets. My top song was New Sensation, followed by Never Tear Us Apart.
Artist: Ren
Album: Sick Boi
Released: 13 October 2023
Created while Ren was receiving treatment for Lyme Disease, Sick Boi forms a loose concept record around Ren's battles with his health, both physical and mental, originally conceived as a straight hip-hop album before becoming more fluid, with injections of tracks that riff on traditional pop melodies, EDM dance music, drill and even traditional Welsh folk music.
In its opening week, Sick Boi ended up in a nail-biting neck-and-neck UK chart battle with pop veteran Rick Astley's Are We There Yet?, and while Rick took an early lead in the midweek Official Chart Update and maintained it for most of the week, Ren overtook in the final 24 hours to land at Number 1 on the Official Albums Chart.
Spotify said I was a top 3% fan.
lol King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard
we are expats from usa just discovered these guys this year so my son and I proceeded to listen to their entire catalog - or, attempted to, I think we didn't make it yet. They are so d@mend prolific, I can see how they became our top artist.
Honorable mention was Midnight Rider - The Allman Brothers Band - as our top song. I do love me some ABB so, yeah.
Melanie Martinez. No I am not okay! I got Tkay Maidza for second place and Missy Higgins for fifth. i got Perth for my music country, most people got LA or Berkley.
My genre burger was thin, with only 3 genres. Alternative Metal, Alternative Rock and Heavy Rock. My top 5 was:
1. Ghost
2. Avatar
3. Korn
4. White Zombie
5. Nightwish
Ghost and Avatar toured Australia this year, which likely contributed to their rankings.
I know with absolutely certainty that John Williamson was my #1 artist of 2023. I binge-listened to him a bunch of times on throughout the year. But for some stupid reason he didn’t get a mention in my top 5 artists, nor my 2023 playlist. Wrapped is rigged, I don’t trust it for a second. Last.FM stats are **so** much better.
Joywave for me 🥵 top 0.5%, 453 mins (and counting since I listened to them today). I was allllmost getting bored of the old songs, but they released some more this year! They're gonna release more next year and maybe even do an Aussie tour 😭💖 they've been my top I think for 3-4 years now!
The Spotify Wrapped was just released for the year, so everyone has been shown their stats all pretty-like. It's a nice buzz at the end of each year for music lovers.
Steve Day. He composed the incidental music for Time Team, each track is about 45 seconds to 3 minutes each. Apparently I spent 1,322 minutes with him, making me a top 0.5% fan.
Of the 218 artists I listened to My no1 artist was Chase and Status - once a dnb head always a dnb head.
1367 minutes worth of one artist and 3871 minutes total. Help’s having a long commute and hating Fm/Am radio.
The wiggles. Guess who has a toddler.
Their cover of Elephant by Tame Impala slaps, though.
Mate you’ve gotta put that shit in a playlist and then tap the button that says something to the effect of “don’t count this towards my recommendations”
It doesn’t bother me, so far it hasn’t leaked into any of my other playlists.
Queen. My dogs favourite song is ‘I want to break free’.
How can you tell your dog likes it? Haha
It’s the only song he howls along with, he loves the guitar at 2.06, just howls his little heart out
My dog does this to the "Shawn the Sheep" theme song. I really need to take a good video of it... LOL
Please do!
Your dog is a legend!
I think I'm going to have to insist on a dog tax & video evidence of this on behalf of the sub
https://www.instagram.com/reel/Ccy3oLWhFgS/?igshid=MzRlODBiNWFlZA== this is him on insta, he’s a bit high pitched..
I listened to 2,678 artists Top 5 were King gizzard and the lizard wizard All them witches Queens of the stone Age Hermanos Gutierrez The Doors
Very nice 👌 Also had King Gizz and ATW. Your last three are all epic bands however.
The Doors is an unusual one, when compared to the other ones!

Yeah - the tickets even for GA Floor are spendy! And with you, headed to Kraftwerk soon, Dinosaur Jr in Feb. Need to cut back on something else :D

I was in the top 0.5% of global fans for Run the Jewels this year. I'm shocked that I was that high among their regular listeners.
I was shocked w mine as well, top 0.5% for Joywave hahaha
I spent 1210 minutes listening to them this year
I've been smashing them lately. I heard one of their tracks watching Invincible, and I was hooked.
Run the jewels are fukn awesome. Kudos to you bro.
Do the lyrics *look at all these slave masters posing on your doller* hit just as hard when you don't use American currency?
Even though she died recently, we have Queen Elizabeth on most of our currency and her ancestors did a lot of fucked up shit in the past.
Run the jewels was my running music for the year so I listened to it a LOT.
Excellent taste tho tbh
A tribe called quest I was in their top 0.0005%
Yes you can!
Love me some ham and eggs
Foo Fighters. I haven’t listened to them much in the last 10 years but their latest album is really good
Mine was foo fighters too! Top 0.5% ! I didn’t realise how much I listened to them until I saw 2,111 minutes lol.
Pendulum, 3 years running 😂

I don't use spotify but I suspect mine would comfortably be Sleep Token.
Sleep Token was my second most listened to artist and I only found them late this year. I've been smashing their music. So good.
Mine was!
Dire Straits
I had them in top 5!
Johnny Cash, skewed by my often putting it on before I crash.
I took that too literally. I'm thinking "this person crash-test airbags or something?!"
Weddings Parties Anything
Mine was Bad Bad Not Good. Top 0.005% of listeners! I do play them in the background while I work a lot.
They had that one really great song!
Ray Gun? Or maybe Time Moves Slow which is more recent.
Cowboy Junkies
1. Avril Lavigne 2. Kelly Clarkson 3. Delta Goodrem 4. Kylie Minogue 5. Pink
Dang what year you living in
Yeah. Could be any. They've all been around for a while, but they've all got new stuff too.
I was in the top 0.5% of global fans for Moog, for the last 3 years running.
The Dollop
#1 was Nirvana (top 4%) Followed by Foo Fighters Green Day Eminem The Police Very diverse!
Nirvana was my second but I hardly remember listening to it this year
I was a bit surprised that they came up my number 1. I reckoned it would have been Rage Against the Machine but they didn’t make the top 5 even!
Rage was my #5, also had Stones and Creedence in my top 5
You must be about the same age as me, were you a teenager around the 90s by any chance?
Silverchair
Ball park music
Love BPM
I had Jimmy Barnes as my number 1 artist. 4 of my top 5 were Australian artists for that matter: Barnsey, INXS, Midnight Oil, The Screaming Jets. My top song was New Sensation, followed by Never Tear Us Apart.
You just have the triple M playlist on repeat
Listened to 2056 minutes of the national, top 0.5% of course.

Love Ren and also Chinchilla

0.5% listener of INXS
System of a Down. I like them, but don't deliberately listen to them, the algorithm just kinda pops them into every playlist it makes for me.
I think that’s what has happened with me, INXS creeps into nearly every playlist!
Muse. Top 3% of fans
Nick Cave - it was weird how much more NC I listened to than anything else.

Why is Spotify the metric for music listening?
The Spotify Wrapped was just released for the year, so everyone has been shown their stats all pretty-like. It's a nice buzz at the end of each year for music lovers.
Because they just released Spotify Wrapped yesterday so it's fresh on people's minds.
