Auspicious_Sign

In a natal chart use fairly tight orbs - 8 degrees for luminaries, 5 for inner planets, 4 for Jupiter & Saturn, 2 or 3 for Uranus onwards. However, I give a maximum orb of 5 degrees for squares and sextiles, even if it's a luminary. I don't ascribe orbs to angles. For synastry I use the same orbs but for transits and progressions I use tighter ones.

selekta_stjarna

I use up to 10 degrees for luminaries only. Everything else is up to 6 degrees.

MagnetaSunPatien

I use a max orb of about 5 for everything.

I often use 10 degrees for the sun and moon but 3 to 7 degrees for other aspects, however, it depends on the chart. There are times where I can see a dynamic at play and it clearly warrants including an aspect that has a wider orb. So in that case, I go with my intuition. Also, if you have a cluster of planets in a sign or house, there are times when you need to look at an aspect to one as being an aspect to the others, too, even if the orb is wide. When looking at outer planetary transits, I will use a wider orb than the standard 2-3 degrees for Pluto or Saturn. Because when it touches a personal planet, things are heating up before it reaches that tight orb. It’s like the saying “out of the frying pan and into the fire.” You’re already cooking before you hit 2 degrees, but by that time, you are IN the fire. I do however acknowledge that I’m probably more sensitive to transits than the average person so when Pluto was conjunct my moon, I felt that transit for about 6 years not 3.

astrologyqueen2023

The Pluto conjunct moon transit was by far the longest and hardest transit I’ve been through. I have a cap moon square Pluto natally, so yeah. I feel you hard on that one.

vrwriter78

Same. Capricorn moon. It was rough!

Depends on context, but generally not a fan. I tend to stay at about 6° max, even with natal.chsrts... though with the luminaries, I'll go up to 9° at the absolute max. For synastry, I keep it within 3°.

Away_Refuse8493

Depends on the planet. It makes sense with the inner planets, when a "wide orb" could literally be 4 days (moon) in real time, but no sense when it could be a decade (Pluto). Moon/Mercury/Venus I'll do 10, then start tightening it up from their. Uranus/Neptune/Pluto get 2 degrees for me. Similarly, Mercury at 9 degrees does have less potency than it does cazimi, so acknowledging the strength/weakness of the influence is also pertinent. With that, I'd also say out of sign aspects are weakened. [Astro.com](http://Astro.com) gives a wide orb for everything. Say there is a wide Moon-Pluto. aspect. The Moon may be influencing Pluto, but Pluto is not influencing the moon, but there is no arrow pointing and saying "this isn't necessarily reciprocal".

astrologyqueen2023

Hey! Can you clarify something for me? Are you saying that someone with moon square Pluto at a 10 degree orb Isn’t likely to feel the energy? I’m curious bc my daughter has this placement. I have my moon squaring Pluto at 2 degrees and it is STRONG energy. My moon is also in Cap, which makes it worse. Hers is in Virgo.

Away_Refuse8493

2 degrees is Pluto's orb. 10 degrees is way outside of that, so I would say that Pluto is not "squaring" anything at 10 degrees. Even the Moon's influence at 10 degrees is at it's weakest.

astrologyqueen2023

Thank you for your quick reply and clarification :)

Hungry_Rule1938

Wide orbs are appropriate in natal- not so much in synastry.

Late_Wonder_8094

Nice, does this also apply to transits as in tighter orbs?

Hungry_Rule1938

I’m not sure. I think with transits it works like synastry… they should be closer?!
