Best sci-fi I've ever watched, although it may be hard to follow from time to time. The plots are sometime very well intertwined and the space battles are extremely fast paced and well thought. Definitely need rewatches
Ya gotta read the books. They're these enthralling 500 page long pageturners that just have oodles of delicious sci-fi details. The shows are actually pretty accurate to the books, they just change a lot of the sequencing around.
Not really. The second arc closes itself neatly. You don't really need to read the last books if you don't feel like it, although I highly recommend it
It completely took me by surprise and is probably the best show I’ve ever watched. The writing/acting/casting/special affects/music are all top notch. Too bad it’s about such a terrible event.
This is interesting - I watched it through once and that was kind of enough for me... It's a heavy watch. I did replay the speech in the trial a couple of times, though.
Without BB ....would you like BCS??
It is like yes some do like BCS better but is it not helped because it leads right into BB?
Season one of BCS was solid but we already know where Saul ends up. Hell even the flash forwards would not make much sense since they are happening AFTER BB.
I'd say yes. BCS stands very well on its own, and without watching BB beforehand I think it adds to the tension in a lot of the scenes, as you'll have no idea what happens to any of the characters except for Saul during the show. Not knowing that certain characters appear in BB makes suspenseful scenes involving them even more suspenseful. There are definitely some callbacks that will be missed, but I don't think it's that big of a deal. In addition, I think watching BCS beforehand makes BB hit harder because you understand just how much damage Walter White causes once he becomes involved in the meth trade.
Edit: removed some stuff

Thank god I'm not the only one. Watching that show felt like a perpetual buildup to a sneeze that never happens.
I know it's redundant to say but the ending was just so disappointing.
I could get deep into it. But I’ll put it this way.
There are none or not enough consequences for the stupid shit the people in that show do.
Even things that don’t deserve consequences, huge things happen as cliff hangers, and then just forgotten and never mattered to begin with.
There is no character growth. There is no story arch. If you took episode one and the final episode and played them back to back the only thing you’d wonder is “huh how’d they get that big ass boat”.
It’s so fucking dumb.
“We killed him. Group A is going to want us dead”. JK were fine 2 episodes later and it didn’t matter at all! That character meant nothing! Then dying meant nothing! None of it mattered were fine! Oops we did it again. Now Group B is pissed. NOPE we’re still fine after 2 episodes and it’ll never matter.
Just dumb writing for what is a good plot.
I watched it all the way through. Wanna know my final straw to say it fucking sucks.
The season 4 promo. They show the wife with a gun pointing it right at her husband in the middle of the road screen goes to black and gunshot.
Then that’s happening in the show. Holy shit they’re actually doing something!!! NOPE it’s a dream.
Just fuck off with that tired bullshit
Edit: they even end the show with the same fucking bull shit. How the fuck are they going to continue on with what happened? How are they not going to jail. How does anything continue. They don’t need to continue the show because IT DOESNT FUCKING MATTER they’ll just keep puttering along la-de-dah just because. At least they ended the show when they did because that shit is WEAK
The worst part is i really really wanted to like it. I gave it every chance.
Went to forums. Posted on Reddit. Talked about it with friends. And it just…kept happening. It just kept being dumb and going nowhere. Which is exactly where it ends.
I don’t feel like I wasted my time, but I wouldn’t do it again.
Funny, the wife and I are watching it right now! This is an unpopular opinion on Reddit, but I think you still ought to watch all 8 seasons. It's still exciting, suspenseful, and at least mildly entertaining regardless. I guess I'm more forgiving than most in that I think that more of a favorite show, even a subpar season or two, is better than not having more of it to watch.
Basically, my personal opinion per season is:
1: starts strong and works as a self-contained story
2: gets a little bit better
3: slight slump, but still pretty good on its own
4: best by a WIDE margin
5: worst
6: back to being awesome, but I like the whole theme of the season
7: stays awesome
8: slight dive in quality but not truly bad
Also, fairly short and with an *ending*. Very easy recommendation for people who enjoy adult (TV-MA) comedy-dramas.
A lot of people in this thread recommending shows which haven't ended **yet**, which while you *can* binge them to the current point, may in some cases never get an ending (or you may have to wait *years*).
Fleabag has a 92% Metacritic score and an 8.7 IMDB audience score.
- Has an ending/conclusion, and it is *satisfying*.
- Has some stronger and weaker seasons, but never REALLY falls off in quality overall, it is pretty stable quality with S1 being the weakest.
- The cast is all great, but it has Margo Martindale and Walton Goggins in it.
- If you like the pilot, you'll likely like the entire show.
If you have Hulu in the US give it a shot.
Plus one for this u/NikTheDork. The casting in this show is phenomenal.
Walton Goggins, Margo Martindale, Neal McDonough, Mike O’Malley, Michael Rappaport, Sam Elliot, Jonathan Tucker, Garrett Dillahunt, Jere Burns, Alicia Witt, Mykelti Williamson, Desmond Harrington, Jeremy Davies (who’s damn near unrecognizable)… and that’s just the baddies (not all of them but the notable ones). The show is very well acted all around. Seasons 2-4 are my favorite but there are no duds.
Jesus Christ I just finished a rewatch and I’m about to do it again.
Apart from all of the obvious answers that you would also get by googling "top 20 series to binge watch", I lately started watching Bosch and it is pretty good. We watched 4 seasons one after another. Not ground breaking, but captivating for sure.
Saw someone else say "Ozark". It was crazy. Highly recommended.
Recently watched a three part series on Netflix about the earthquake and avalanche on the slopes of Mount Everest. It was gripping and very intense. And sad.
I've also watched the earthquake thing. Definitely compelling.
There's also one about a group of people who got stranded on a volcano in New Zealand (The Volcano: Rescue from Whakaari) that's similar. The earthquake one was better IMO, but if you like that you'll probably like the volcano one too.
Peaky Blinders
Warrior
Primal
True Detective (s01)
Castlevania
Gangs of London
Luther
Wallander
Burn Notice.
I have many more, but these are all pretty good and different.
>!I fucking loved the twist to it tho. Tyler turning out to be the Hyde and his reveal scene was genuinely unnerving. Plus, rewatching it knowing the romance was all him manipulating her and he actually hates her makes him a lot cooler as a character.!<
Battlestar Galactica (2004) - I always stuck my nose up at it before. Finally started watching it one day and went through withdrawls when there were days I couldnt see an episode.
One of the greatest written series of all time. Dont let the office memes keep you away from it.
The Boys
Carnival Row
The Handmaids Tale
The Umbrella Academy

Firefly
Carnivale
The Last of Us (although only 2 episodes released so far)

These are my favourite:
Yellowstone
Daredevil
The Newsroom (My favourite show of all time)
Peaky Blinders
See (Apple TV+. A criminally underrated series. Jason Momoa gives one of the greatest physical performances I've ever seen)
Ted Lasso
Succession
Ozark

Andor (the best show and my favorite one of 2022)
Hannibal
Stranger Things (Strong opening season, it mellows a bit with the later installments but the latest season is the 2nd best 10 hours of television I watched in 2022)
Chernobyl (someone already mentioned this but I thought I'd put it here to emphasize how good it is)
The Outsider (Limited series)
The West Wing (maybe it's a bit too old and too long but I'm listing it anyway because I can never get enough of it)

The Expanse!
Everything else here is mainstream, but this one is supremely underrated and kind of under the radar. It's SO GOOD!
The Expanse is still pretty mainstream all things considered. Swear it was one of Prime's most popular shows
I'm trying (and failing) to find numbers, but did find a Business Insider article from Jan 2020 saying the expanse was the 6th most popular streaming show at the time. So you may be right! That being said, I don't think anyone I know has watched it, if I want to talk about it, the internet is the only place. So maybe it feels more underrated than it is?
Best sci-fi I've ever watched, although it may be hard to follow from time to time. The plots are sometime very well intertwined and the space battles are extremely fast paced and well thought. Definitely need rewatches
seconded, best scifi on TV at the moment
Ya gotta read the books. They're these enthralling 500 page long pageturners that just have oodles of delicious sci-fi details. The shows are actually pretty accurate to the books, they just change a lot of the sequencing around.
Though be prepared to read the last books when the series doesn’t end…
Not really. The second arc closes itself neatly. You don't really need to read the last books if you don't feel like it, although I highly recommend it
Not a super long series, but I always go back to HBO's Chernobyl
So good!
I too am a career party man. Excellent taste.
I loved it but can't say that I binged it. Had to take a few days between each episode at least because it was so depressing.
It was like watching a car wreck. I pretty much couldn’t stop watching it.
The Boys
It's fucking diabolical.
Did you say dat wiffa brih-ish accent, ya rioight cunt? - Billy Bootcha
Take it easy bruv
Cannot recommend this one enough
Agreed. Although you will say "What the fuck did I just watch?" waaay more than you'd expect
Fucking Herogasm man, wtf lol
The dolphin rescue scene had me dying. My gf was vibing to "If you wanna be my lover" and she was shocked while I almost died of laughter.
Breaking bad
And once you finish Breaking Bad then start Better Call Saul
After Breaking Bad, El Camino, then Better Call Saul
I find Better Call Saul to be a much more compelling series than Breaking Bad.
I agree, BB is phenomenal but I think BCS is a better series.
Without BB ....would you like BCS?? It is like yes some do like BCS better but is it not helped because it leads right into BB? Season one of BCS was solid but we already know where Saul ends up. Hell even the flash forwards would not make much sense since they are happening AFTER BB.

In addition, I think watching BCS beforehand makes BB hit harder because you understand just how much damage Walter White causes once he becomes involved in the meth trade. Edit: removed some stuff
Doing the opposite is also pretty cool since it introduces many characters and you'll understand certain backgrounds in BrBa.
On meth
True for all shows

I heart Bill Hader
Ozark
I hate this show with every fiber of my being.

I'm working on Supernatural
First 5 seasons are magnificent. You want to keep going beyond that and you're welcome to, but you can tell where the showrunner bows out.
I just started season 8
Totally agree. We go from monster of the week to “log season arc and sometimes they all just have magic and glow eyes”
Carry on my wayward son!
Dexter
Firm believer that everyone should watch Dexter Season 1. So, so good.
Season 2>>>
Funny, the wife and I are watching it right now! This is an unpopular opinion on Reddit, but I think you still ought to watch all 8 seasons. I’m surprised you consider 5 to be the worst, I think it’s one of the better seasons. Season 8 is the worst imo, and 7 is a close second.
Arcane. It’s gorgeous, riveting, entertaining, and you can knock it out in a day if you wanted to.
I liked Arcane so much I watched it twice back to back. don't even play League, it was just that good

Yes absolutely. Plus Timothy Olyphant was born to play that role for me.
