I am fairly sure mutton is more popular in Yemen as it is part of the local cuisine in more dishes than chicken. It could be that the rising prices and economic situation made chicken a more popular protein source though
Since most of us middle easterners are chicken lovers
I stand here saying that drumsticks are the best part of chicken and what’s probably carrying its popularity
yes. in olden times the main meat of choice in the middle east was always lamb although people ate many other meat types as well like beef, camel, fish and chicken etc... but with modern agricultural practices chicken became much more economical so over time it became the most popular (I think all over the world not only in our region)
Not "prefer" but chicken meat is cheap
Also i think indonesian more into vegetarian ^(because those vegetables are cheap) than chicken lol. Some of my friend eat meat (like chicken and fish) like twice per week. Some people even eat mutton/lamb/beef only twice per year (at eid fitr and eid adha)
Bedouins in Syria are called shawis, which translates to sheep herders, the climate in Syria allow for less camels and more sheeps.
Cities eat chickens, rural Syrians prefer ducks over chicken and costal cities eat fish.
It's like different cultures and circumstances in Syria allow for different lifestyles.
Mostly also where cow is unfeasible due to their absurd water consumption.
Seriously (for sacrificed young ones), if they are like 5 times heavier than a goat, and live 2 times longer, that's aprox 10 times the water consumption, for like 3 times the amount of food.
X10 water for x3 food. Not worth it on many countries.
Thats pretty immature. Its like when Hindu nationalist politicians back Israel just to fuck with Islam. Eat food because it tastes good not to provoke.
The title is kinda wrong, we only eat chicken because its cheap and capitalism loves staying cheap on the production. Turks probably hardly encountered a chicken before Anatolia, most of our traditional food requires another type of meat. It is not preference its capitalism.
as en egyptian, i think chicken is the most consumed here because we cant afford beef, if we could then it'd be beef...
yeah same in Morocco
You can afford Chicken? Wow
Me? No... it's what an average middle class house can afford tho
Out of curiosity, how much does a whole chicken cost on average in Egypt?
200 - 250 egp
نصيحة اخ مسلم ليك ياريت تغير الاسم دا عشان دي ذنوب جارية
شكراً بس أنا مش اخ مسلم، أنا ابن المتناكة
Damn that's pretty much the same as any supermarket here in Europe (for a cheap halal whole chicken, obviously organic will be double or triple that).
Egyptians make like 2000 egp a month, so its not the same at all. Beef is 500+
I know, that's why I said damn. Same price, very different salaries.
Not even ya bro, in Europe you’re generally paying 10-15 euros for a whole chicken, our economy is so fucked that it would cost 4 euros here

Wtf. How? Even 'Supply and Demand' doesn't explain that. Is this subsidized or something?
Likewise in Turkey , I am pretty sure if asked most people will prefer beef
I think it's more about the availability and prices
Except in Pakistan, where we do it to fuck with Indians. (Just a joke, I'm chill with everyone. Except Israelis.)
You mean the hindi belt ones?
Prolly
Were you joking or is that the actual reason behind beef’s popularity in Pakistan? That was my first thought too.
He’s joking. Beef is more expensive than chicken but less than Mutton. Meat is a luxury for most living below poverty line.
Interesting. I thought Pakistanis ate meat every day.
We ain't _that_ gay.
True !!!!
Idk about other places but mutton/goat are both far cheaper than beef in Ethiopia
Where is camel? 🐪
We don’t consume camel meat that often, it’ll probably be in the 5th place or so after chicken, lamb, cow, fish..etc
In Iran lamb is definitely the top choice
I am fairly sure mutton is more popular in Yemen as it is part of the local cuisine in more dishes than chicken. It could be that the rising prices and economic situation made chicken a more popular protein source though
Wrong for Pak. We consume a lot of mutton besides camel and lamb.
This is just BS. Kashmiris eat mutton.
this count the whole india
They shouldn’t.
What india kashmir is pakistan
It's not monopoly
Kashmir is india
Nope
Um no
🤣🤣🤣
Good for you
Keep dreaming.

In your dreams.

I think it's because chickens are cheaper otherwise we prefer lamb.

In rural Syria people prefer ducks over chickens, in the cities we are chicken eaters.
Cheapest and most water efficient. That's literally it. Look at water availability and prices and you can guess this map.
And they’re what carries the chicken!
I’m more of a breast guy
You guys prefer chicken over mutton? Disgusting. Rural Syrians sell chickens to the cities and eat ducks.

I find it weird that only us prefer Lamb the most near us
Probably just an outlier. It's part of traditional meals elsewhere in the Arab world, but maybe they consume chicken more often on a day to day basis.
Yeah probably , even I end up eating more chicken , although I prefer lamb , like Shawerma and fast food and such is mostly Chicken
It's probably the same all around the world, wherever chicken are present. I'm actually surprised chicken didn't beat every other animal.
We literally made a country to eat beef. Though by now lots of chicken is also eaten and mutton is still considered gourmet.
Chicken because it's cheap
In Morocco we prefer Beef, but the wallet can't keep up with meat prices, so chicken is on the menu nowadays
Syrians can't even afford chicken these days .. But when times were good .. i thought most of us liked beef more .. hmm ..
In Bangladesh beef is first choice

People dying is not funny
we Pakistani do eat beef as india is biggest exporter of beef so we get a good share out of it ☠️🕯️👑
I would choose beef everyday if I could afford
Can confirm for Syria.
Eat chicken and you become a chicken, eat beef and you become beefy. No wonder Central Asians are so good in UFC
I live in Saudiarabia, lamb meat is the choice here
Wait we eat meat in eygpt
Lamb meat is the best
I think this just shows which muslim countrys are poor and cant buy red meat.

Lmaooo Pakistanis eating beef just to fuck with their Indian Hindu neighbors
Thats pretty immature. Its like when Hindu nationalist politicians back Israel just to fuck with Islam. Eat food because it tastes good not to provoke.
Wow would’ve definitely thought beef or even mutton instead of chicken for Bosnia. I guess chicken must be cheapest though.
Kazakhstan is horse right?
And i thought that middle easterns ( except Iraq, I'm from Iraq ) would eat mainly beef and camels
I would be interested to see a regional break down

Its also same with probably most of the world.
Beef is more famous in 4-5 Indian States.
Inaccurate map of India. And this doesn't look good, especially for this sub.
Nothing "inaccurate" with this map of India This is the ground reality map of India (actual map)
Sell ur women to china for food you poor fucks
What are you getting annoyed about? I gave you the ground reality of India's border with Pakistan I guess you prefer living in a delusion 🤷
