Amazon (NOT Whole Foods) grocery delivery is about the cheapest but selection is not the same. We use Target regular mail shopping for soap/paper, etc. saves a lot of money vs the local ripoff places

Thanks for this. I didn't know there was a difference! $7.69 for a gallon of organic milk is hard to beat

They all have their strengths and weaknesses. We use target for staples, long term goods like paper towels and things like that. Amazon Fresh is actually the cheapest milk and eggs we’ve found around regardless of who is selling it. So it’s a pick and choose exercise for specific products/type of products.

I pretty much stopped using Amazon Fresh last year. My issues are they're often out of stock on items, so I'd wait until half of the stuff I wanted was in stock, then two weeks later I'd order the other half that came back into stock. The stuff from the first order was then OOS so I'd never been able to order everything in one shot. Fine when free shipping was lower, but now it costs too much to make multiple deliveries a month. They used to deliver frozen stuff in those aluminum lined bubble wrap with blocks of dry ice, horrible for the environment so they switched to paper bags with one or two frozen bottles of water, which doesn't work to keep things frozen, so I stopped ordering except in winter. Then there's surge pricing, staples like cereal and soda that went low stock got very expensive so it was just cheaper to buy at Target/Trader Joe's. I tried Wegmans delivery back during Covid and they were out of stock and we got a lot of replacement items I didn't really care for but haven't gotten around to trying it again. The new Astor location seems to have delivery now so I might try it, but I've been heading back to work a few times a week so it's a little easier buying stuff on the way home, though the stores are usually more crowded after work so it takes a bit longer than popping out early afternoon.

I forgot to mention: sorting by unit price is super important too. I haven't found another app that allows it :/

Target works for non-persihibles. Some of the stores also have a enough food for emergencies (fruit and veg, milk)

I’ve been ordering from Amazon fresh and it’s been great, they bag up frozen in insulated bags, eggs inside a special box to not break, even the sandwich bread never squished. Good prices too, though their broccoli heads are a little skimpy.

FreshDirect is pricier but they have yearly and semiannual passes and a lot of their stuff can be delivered same day. They have name brands and sales each week. I use Target for non perishables and just have them shipped and FD for most everything else.

Where did you hear that they are stopping Manhattan deliveries? I would think that there would have been an email sent out or a news story but I cannot find either.

kjuneja

Got an email a month ago that the 13th is their last day for me

kath_or_kate

Is S&S completely ending delivery to Manhattan? Or is it just switching to a “new partner” for deliveries? I just got an email this week saying they would be using a new service for deliveries.
