Because I don't care what happens either way. I use the main app anyways. It's not my fight lol

Shinigamae

I never had any problem with the main app and I am not a moderator so I am pretty much an outsider of this blackout. Most subreddit I follow is still opening so not much is changed today. And once I go to Popular it is still alive and kicking. So...

she_makes_a_mess

same. having a hard time seeing how this won't matter in a week. protest never work, someone will just start new subs to replace the old ones

Hsiang7

>someone will just start new subs to replace the old ones They won't even need to. The subs that went on blackout will come back on Wednesday. It's only for 48 hours. Then everyone will move on with their lives and Reddit will make the changes anyways. It all seems kind of pointless, especially since those same people seem to be logging in today anyways lol.

[deleted]

The MODS of those subs made stickied posts, M'redditor! They made sure to also let people know they were speaking...officially *AS* mods, per chance. Think about it. Unpaid volunteers have decided that reddit must comply. This is earthshaking. *This* is critical. **THIS IS REDDIT** and nothing in life is more important. In 20 years you'll think back to where you were on this day and reflect as to how much of a change it made. Per simmons.

Power tripping subreddit admins who will ban you for forgetting to use a capital "I" in your post (looking right at you, r/fatlogic admins) are suddenly high and mighty when Reddit does something they don't agree with. Ftfy, 😉

Your neutralness, it's a beige alert.

Ok_Throat6453

Can u send me the main app please don't have it

Hsiang7

Just download it from the app store?

Themousen

I'm browsing reddit on my computer, never used the app And because I'm bored and I like answering questions

luleroar

literally same

[deleted]

Same. I try to keep apps to a minimum on my phone so I'm not tempted to be on it constantly. I used Reddit in the morning while having my coffee, and in the evening sometimes. Coffee and reddit are my morning routine and I see no reason (yet) to give that up. And I honestly believe the owners of reddit don't give two flying squirrel nuts if anyone protests and nothing will change.

[deleted]

Because the "protest" is just a temper tantrum that will be forgotten about within a week

five-oh-one

Mods are upset thinking that its going to be harder to permanently ban people from their shitty subreddits on the native app...

red_dawn

That's when you have mods actually doing proper modding. I found it hilarious some of the subs I subscribe to went dark in protest of the API issue complaining about how much more difficult it will be to mod said subs are the same mods that don't do their jobs or pick and choose what rules they determine to adhere to for that day. Same said mods are also the mods that would ban your account for saying something they disagree with personally but doesn't violate sub rules, but if you were to report a violation of sub rules or harassment - well, they didn't see anything wrong.

NoBSforGma

Maybe....... maybe not. It will depend on how the potential investors view this "protest." It could be that they will just say.... "meh" and nothing will change. It could be that they will shy away from Reddit because of the upheaval and changes. People with lots of money to invest like putting their money in stable ventures with a bright future. Reddit is not looking like that today so who knows?

zxyzyxz

Investors know that the changes are done to make more money, so they'll be in support of it

NoBSforGma

While this change might APPEAR to "make more money," an investor has to think about what they really want: 1. A website with a billion users to pitch ads to -- or -- 2. A website with 500 thousand users to pitch ads to. It seems to me, some accountant said...... "You can look better on paper if you start charging API for access to the website" not really understanding the ramifications of that and only looking at "Hey! They are getting this for free!" And management here thinking "Hey, we have all these users so we can do whatever we want." Improving the "Reddit Experience" so that there are more users willing to pay for "Premuim Reddit" would be a more sensible way to go.

red_dawn

It's adorable if you think a change of this nature would cripple a website so heavily that if they theoretically had 1bn users that it would dramatically reduce the users to 500k. That's not how any of this works. For every user protesting this and claiming they'll never return, there are probably 3 new users signing up that have zero skin in the game with these changes. Whether you like the results or not - they've done their research. They've looked at the user demographics across many spectrums and have determined that there is little to no financial risk to their model. And they are right. It hurts to hear it, but way too many are overvaluing their influence on this matter.

zxyzyxz

Exactly. Most redditors who use third party apps are in a bubble. If you talk to the casual users who use the official app and new reddit, who are the vast majority, you'll see that they don't give a shit at all about any of this.

Agreeable-Kangaroo1

Because I want to sit here and watch the whole entirety of Reddit crumble like a rock that has fallen off the mountain

Hsiang7

Lol all you're doing is giving the website traffic though. Subreddit blackouts don't mean anything if everyone logs in anyways. Reddit doesn't care which subreddits you go to, just that you come to the website.

ichaleynbin

Because it's a joke of a movement. Reddit users: "Oh we're not going to use your site for two days" Reddit: "lol okay see you soon!" If you actually care, stop using reddit altogether. When the site dies I'll go somewhere else.

AndyBossNelson

This ! I really don't understand what a couple of days will change, only way to make a point is just to stop using it altogether. Seems like people want their cake and to eat it too these days.

ichaleynbin

Ostensibly it's a threat. "Look how many of us are angry with your decision, we'll leave if you don't revert it!" But if that threat isn't going to be followed up on, it's empty, and they know it. Where you gonna go?

AndyBossNelson

Defo, the subs that are doing the weekend thing should have just completely closed the sub but that also won't happen. Feels like the past few years people are vocal about what they want businesses to do rather than just stop giving them your business and telling them why you are leaving.

AndyBossNelson

Ok_Throat6453

Because I love this app🙏♥️

ThePaddedCashier

Power tripping subreddit admins who will ban you for forgetting to use a capital "I" in your post (looking right at you, fatlogic admins) are suddenly high and mighty when Reddit does something they don't agree with. I won't lose any sleep.

[deleted]

Because I’m not deluded enough to think boycotting Reddit will change anything about the website. They’re a company that makes decisions with profits in mind, they’re not gonna look at a bunch of outraged redditors who are posting about their outrage on Reddit and suddenly change their decision. And secondly I couldn’t care less how it affects others.

thatsimsgirl

Because I don’t want to leave Reddit over something that’s going to blow over in a few months?

Leviathanking05

wait what i just got back on after like two years whats going on

Hsiang7

Eh something about 3rd party apps. If you use the main app it doesn't affect you.

Leviathanking05

Im using web does that count?

Hsiang7

If you use the website it doesn't affect you. It's only going to affect 3rd party apps.

thatsimsgirl

Reddit changed their standpoint on API access and 3rd party apps. Those app devs and users have all chosen to leave Reddit (50% will be back; same as when Twitter did this). Subreddits are going on private in solidarity.

Allenrw3

Because I don't care enough about the blackout, the Reddit app works fine for me, I've never had a problem with it.

AndyBossNelson

I don't even use the website, I just use it to kill time when I'm out, once I'm home I almost forget about reddit lol.

A_reddit_bro

Meh.

NBA-014

I couldn’t care less. Reddit is a for-profit company

maxthunder5

No change for me. I didn't know about the apps until people started crying about it last week.

blaze87b

Because I actually read the post by spez and I think everyone is being super childish about it

Squirt_memes

I like Reddit for the content. The apps are nice, but I don’t stay here because of the UI. I do it for the memes and such.

batotit

Well, I'm a capitalist at heart. Reddit owns the platform. No matter how big an "improvement" you did as a mod, you are doing it on their property, so yeah, pay the price or go.

ImmenseSquad

Because reddit will still exist even after their protests.

kirkochainz

Because the protest is a wasted effort that will fall upon deaf ears.

Les-Lanciers-Rouge

I have always used the official app so I see no reason why I should participate in the blackout.

RyuTeruyama

Before a few days ago i didn't even know there are third party apps out there. And i don't really have a need for them. The native app does what it should do totally fine for my use.

renekissien

I use a desktop PC and my laptop, so I couldn't be bothered what's up with apps and whatever. But I read what this is all about and I understand the uproar. To answer the question: Can't delete what I don't have, but good luck to everyone.

tangnapalm

I'm fine using the regular app or my browser. I think with all the shitty things about reddit this is a bizarre one to make a stand about.

ShockedHearts

I simply don't care about whatever is going on. Something something 3rd party apps? I don't think a protest will change anything they seem to have their minds set. Sucks but this the way of companies who hate their users

ShockedHearts

ssjx7squall

Because I use the main app. That being said if Reddit becomes another right wing cesspool because moderation falls off I’ll delete it just like I did twitter

Vaarsuvius42

Because I only use reddit on my computer. I don't even have a smartphone, so I don't see the need to do anything. Honestly, I don't fully understand the problem about the apps. And I don't think the protest will achieve much.

Connect_Atmosphere80

Because I am a frenchman and that's not how protest leading to results work. I mean, **it is good**, but only to show that users aren't happy. If Reddit decide that they don't care... Well, what will the users do ? The answer is simple : **not enough**.

Nxoxoxnxe

Why AM I here?

Leviathanking05

Good point, after two whole years I open this app 5 minutes ago and jump straight on askreddit and here i am asking myself why do this to myself its like a drug

[deleted]

I don't use the reddit app .

[deleted]

I use desktop and don't care.

tioLechuga

wow, only 22 people on reddit.

inf4mation
