For the love of God, do the follow-up appointment. The last thing you want is to be accidentally playing with a loaded gun

TWAT_BUGS

Wait the 6 weeks. Nurse tells you 20 wanks, it’s not a fucking challenge. Treat yourself right for the 6 weeks.

DumbVeganBItch

My coworker is a fucking idiot and keeps saying his vasectomy "failed", but mf admitted he didn't wait 6 weeks and that's how he got baby number 4

Counter_Proof

It's so stupid. You can spend a few months using condoms, or other methods or pay child support for 18 years. I waited until I got the semen results giving the all clear for mine.

zachariah120

You have to go 6 weeks without sex or without jerking it?

cythrawll

you have to go 6 weeks (or more) without barebacking. Mine took closer to 12 before I tested completely seedless

Capt1an_Cl0ck

No you have to yank it 10-20 times and then give them a sample to make sure there are no more swimmers. I had to have two consecutive negative tests. So 10 wanks, test, 10 more wanks, test again. But if you fail the second one you start over again. I wasn’t doing 10 in a day. It probably took me 3 weeks on average to get to 10.

TWAT_BUGS

You can jack off as soon as you’re comfortable but you need to check with you doc before you go mad on the town.

Snoo-8094

I don't see an issue with the 20 wanks, but please explain, I'm thinking of getting one next year.

TWAT_BUGS

If you’re serious, the number of times you cum isn’t the end all. Just be normal for 6 weeks, check with your doc, if you get the thumbs up, great. If you’re not clear just be normal for a couple weeks and try again. You will be normal. Understand though, this is not to be considered reversible. If you want a vasectomy consider it permanent.

Snoo-8094

Oh now I get your point, yes I'm serious, meet my wife 16 years ago and being together for almost 15, since the beginning she told me she didn't want kids but I wanted to wait some time to see if that was the case or she changed her mind, well now we are her 33 and me 34, so you can bet that haven't change and with nephews around, even I don't want kids, and economy in my country ain't good so I want to get mine before our anniversary in April. Our sex life is not that active, maybe 1 or 2 times a week if I'm lucky, but sometimes we go some weeks with out any, as her job is really physically demanding and she arrives with 0 energy. So I could need to resort to hand help.

tacknosaddle

>Our sex life is not that active, maybe 1 or 2 times a week if I'm lucky, That is very active compared to most couples with kids.

vahntitrio

Now you just mail in your splooge after 90 days.

chewbaccaRoar13

Apparently I gotta drop mine off. And it has to be a same day sample. So a morning jerk is on the docket.

icebreather106

Dr told me the sample has to be less than an hour old and I'm a half hour from the drop off point. Gonna be a wank and dash kinda morning

Somamang

I took my sample to be tested…. Waited a couple days, no response. So I follow up and they say they didn’t get it. Ok…. Wanked another sample and they didn’t get that one either! I ask what’s going on and they tell me they had to fire the nurse for drinking on the job.

[deleted]

I was super anxious, but I had a great procedure. I was more freaked out about the shot of numbing agent to the balls, but it was legit nothing to worry about. 20 minutes and two weeks of not jerking it, then two weeks of jerking it A LOT (to clear the tubes) and I got the all clear. I honestly couldn’t recommend it enough. SO much easier than my girl being on hormonal BC or getting her tubes tied.

ExplanationActive634

Do they inject it right into the testicle or just the sack?

[deleted]

The sack. Felt like a small pinch. Like if you were to take your fingernails and pinch your sack between them, that hurt more than the shot did.

johnsontheotter

I just imagined you doing this and gauging the pain before responding.

Lynata

Sounds like a pretty cut and dried process

Bright_Composer_3901

Little operation, blue balls and no wanking for a week, then back to normal but without getting anyone pregnant

Alante

Made the mistake of having a pop after a couple of days. Jesus, the regret.

Equivalent_Goose5069

I thought you meant a soda and I was like damn you can’t even drink soda after the procedure

[deleted]

Me too!

HarrumphingDuck

When I woke up after the anesthesia - yes I asked to be put under, best $55 (after insurance) I ever spent - the caffeine headache I had upon waking was the most painful part. The preoperative instructions were nothing but water the evening before, no water for 4 hours before going under. The Safeway brand cola that the angel aftercare nurse brought me was [pure refreshment.](https://youtu.be/cibDyXzPKkA?t=163)

Bright_Composer_3901

Jesus wasn't involved in that one lol I managed to hold off, but I complained a LOT haha

RawPeanut99

Haha, I waited until everything felt normal.

AccomplishedBoard560

It took mine the better part of 3 months or so to feel back to normal. Still the best $582.00 dollars I’ve ever spent. Lol

MrSwivelz

Do you not have insurance? Mine was 100% covered in the US.

3ceratopping

I have insurance in the US. Mine was over $500 too.

3knucklesdeep_

Same here but had doctor friend do it for me and put it as “Office education “ lol

Boonlink

Free in Canada

torspice

🇨🇦

MrSwivelz

Weird. I live in the US and was free for me too.

Sea_Appointment8408

What happened? Asking as someone due to have theirs lol

Alante

Basically like getting kicked in the balls. That same horrible pain in the balls and deep in the stomach, immediately after completion. Now, I burst one of the sutures on day one which may have contributed. In hindsight, I was quite reckless.

Boonlink

I didn't have sutures, it was a tiny incision that heals up in no time. The kicked in the balls feeling came in slightly the following day but as if it was already mostly recovered. They've gotten much better at doing them now

Sloths_Can_Consent

Pepsi or coke?

Montereyluv

My EXACT same question!

hemlockone

That's missing an important step -- after a week, you're back to normal, including that you can still make someone pregnant. After a few months of.. regular practice.. you no longer can get anyone pregnant (and you send a sample to a lab to confirm).

Bright_Composer_3901

That's actually true, I didn't write that down I tested after 2 months and was save

olcrazypete

The most awkward office dropoffs in the world. Jerking in a cup and taking to any other office would get you arrested lol.

kmmccorm

When I dropped off one of my samples I really had to pee so I asked the woman at the desk where the bathroom was, she looked at me and said “oh, do you have to …” and made the jerk off motion with her hand. No lady, I’m not a savage my cum is right here in this paper bag.

imightgetdownvoted

And why is the sample cup clear!

Galind_Halithel

Asking the real questions here!

mattmelb69

Yeah. I was told to write my name and the time on the cup. I only live a short walk from the pathology drop-off place, so I was there 8 minutes later. I went up to reception and tried to discretely hand it over. The receptionist held it up to read the time, and then loudly announced, seemingly to the whole waiting room: “Excellent! Hot off the press!”

DoctorGoodleg

Yup that was awkward. Double bagged and in a paper bag and still embarrassed

Migyver

Don't skip this step, I know of a few people who did... One has an extra set of twins now... 😳

flitterbug33

I have a little sister.

mjeter45

Also… Two bags of peas. Rotate to keep your boys from swelling.

SisterPhister666

The paper work I got for mine which was done less than 2 weeks ago said that you could have sex 2-3 days after but my balls clapping her cheeks definitely said to wait another few days.

Bright_Composer_3901

You got the wrong paper work, buddy

hippoofdoom

Mu doc said definitely no ejaculation for two days but after that as tolerated. Everyone heals differently but there's no risk of like, structural damage after about 48 hours. Especially if you get the arthroscopic version with no incision

Bright_Composer_3901

That's actually true, but they still told me to leave it be for a little while longer I'm pretty glad I listened lol

hippoofdoom

I think I have it an exploratory wank around day four and it was fine. For science

Bright_Composer_3901

Of course Science is very important!

cheesericecake

Is the volume of your load the same? I hope it doesn’t

Bright_Composer_3901

Didn't change noticeably, really My sex drive didn't either

cheesericecake

Great, I wouldn’t expect the drive to change. I guess most of a load isn’t the little swimmers haha

Bright_Composer_3901

Yea, that's true haha

anbuitachi

Wife celebrated with the best BJ of my life after the waiting period, so there is that.

humma__kavula

Tha first celebratory cream 🥧 makes it all worth it. Plus all the ones after.

PoopyScarf

I waited 2 weeks for my first wank and I was so scared, I thought for sure it was gonna be pure blood

Nero29gt

Not to give you fear, but mine was awful. Lidocaine hadn’t kicked in fully when they started and the pain from the cutting of the vas caused me to nearly pass out. Year of pain afterwards and to this day I will still get pain during intercourse. Still, I don’t regret getting it. The peace of mind is worth it. My wife did so much to bring us children that I will gladly do my part.

Top-Jackets

The fuck dude. Have you been back to the doctor? Or even a different doctor?

stickingitout_al

Post vasectomy pain is more common than you would think. According to the American Urology Association: > The opinion of the Panel is that chronic scrotal pain severe enough to interfere with quality of life occurs in 1-2% of men after vasectomy. Medical or surgical therapy is usually, but not always, effective in improving this chronic pain. Also: > An investigation of peer-reviewed articles published in March 2020 examined 559 articles, performed meta-analysis on 25 separate datasets, and concluded that the incidence of post-vasectomy pain syndrome is 5% (95% CI 3% to 8%) with similar incidence of PVPS for both the scalpel and the no-scalpel technique. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Post-vasectomy_pain_syndrome

Aureliamnissan

I'm going to put mine here for visibility, but essentially the procedure itself wasn't much of an issue, the several days afterwords were expected but *quite* painful. The important bit is that, for me, the whole "re-absorption of sperm" thing was mostly a lie. I had consistent pain off and on for about 3 months until I had what I can only assume was an epididymal blowout on one testicle (extreme pressure / pain followed by some relief). That at least caused the pain to more or less stop on that side. The other side would have pain flare about once a month or so. After a year or two the off and on pain could be dealt with via an ibuprofen. But it never went entirely away until I had a reversal. The important thing to take away is that your mileage ***will*** vary, many people have no problems, but some do. The main thing I discovered about this was that virtually everyone will tell you that it's a quick one-and-done outpatient procedure with virtually no discussion of the possibility of chronic pain. It's only once you start to have problems that they will tell you "oh yeah that can totally happen, here's some Tylenol." Post-vasectomy pain is not common, but it's not uncommon either.

CheesyBolt

I had a similar experience, both with the operation and the pain during intercourse, though my pain did eventually go away. Pain free intercourse after about 9-12 months. Now I only feel the pain if I'm close to finishing while laying on my back. But still 1000% would do it again.

shoelessmarcelshell

Had it done twice while living in Japan no less. Why twice? The first one failed. ... apparently, so did the second (says my now 6 year old daughter).

puterTDI

director at my previous job had a child. She was taking birth control he had a vasectomy he wore a condom. the condom broke, the vasectomy failed, the birth control didn't work.

bknknk

That child is the chosen one lol

TheCritFisher

Whoever the fuck that kid is, 2024

heelstoo

Could be the *bad* chosen one. The dark lord. Still probably better than some of our other choices for 2024.

Fatherly_Wizard

The kid deserves to exist at that point.

kindofastud

Life finds a way

TigerOk8010

That literally happened to my mom and needless to say my parents were surprised as shit to learn that they were pregnant with their 3rd child. Guess who made a grand entrance to the world 9 months later? Me! lol

soothsayer3

Sorry but I don’t buy the story, someone is lying

kaiizza

Agreed. First off no one who has as snip wears a condom when banging there wife.

puterTDI

Their first kid was conceived when she was on birth control. That’s why he got snipped.

GaleNotTheWind

HAHAHAHA I’m sure your daughter is yours, but that pause + “apparently” pulled a cackle out of me.

jfrawley28

They must not be used to working on non-pixillated genitalia.

rbollige

That’s probably part of Japan’s strategy to fix their declining population.

redjunkmail

Sounds like you didn't follow all the rules

shoelessmarcelshell

Tested the first time, found out it failed. Second time, I got the surgery (again) in Japan and then flew back to Canada. Assumed the doc did it right the second time. My lesson? Never assume...

redjunkmail

Correct. There's two collection sets!

MovingClocks

2 clean tests and at least yearly follow-ups

poop_to_live

Isn't there a sperm count test afterwards?!

gunnarfuchs0628

I had to provide a sample 3 months after my procedure.

Fallwalking

A guy I work with had it done twice and both times it failed. Idk, they removed a chunk, tied them, burned them and then put a titanium clamp on mine. Holding up still. Best part, it was only $20 out of pocket. (insurance paid a ton of it)

zevdogs

It only change the color of my friends child

AlexRyang

This is suspicious.

usarmyav

This comment wins the internet for today. Thank you sir.

PettyOfficerJohn117

Pls explain, I don't get it

Single_9_uptime

Joking that the child was the result of infidelity.

bloodbrain1911

My friends dad told him to never tell your wife /gf. One day his gf came out and said "we're pregnant". He told her "No, you're pregnant, pack your shit and leave.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Ok-Knowledge-5548

I think he means that the dad said to never tell your wife/gf about the vasectomy. That way if she turns up pregnant you'll know for sure she cheated on you

Secure_Requirement84

Local anesthesia stings for a second or two then all you can feel is tugging after all is done the pain I would describe is like blue balls for like 2 days tops. I took a week off work recommend by doctor since I’m a construction worker and the heavy lifting but I felt like after day 3 I was good to go. Cons: minor pain discomfort, no hanky panky until last semen sample came out clear. Pros: unlimited cream pies, no unplanned pregnancies(it’s still possible very rarely). I’ve noticed though that after I got it I don’t get blue balls anymore no matter how long the edging is it’s like a cherry on top.

jojo_part6_fan_

So basically the cum looks exactly the same?

Secure_Requirement84

Exactly the same. Just no swimmers

jojo_part6_fan_

So the white part of the whole cream pie isn't swimmers after all 🤔

Secure_Requirement84

No, the swimmers come from the testicles, the white part comes from the prostate.

dins3r

It’s male seminal fluid brother, straight from your prostate.

Nyarro

It's mostly just prostatic fluid, seminal fluid and enzymes that protect the sperm. The sperm themselves only make up around 2-5% of the total ejaculate.

KawiNinja

Am I alone when I say the volume of my ejaculation is actually noticeably greater than it was pre-vasectomy? For lack of better words, I’m shooting ropes upon ropes now. Very unexpected side effect that I’m not complaining about. Curious if anyone else has experienced the same.

BobRoberts01

I am told it tastes the same too.

tFlydr

It’s just diet version.

weaseltorpedo

Mine has about 10% more blood in it than it did before the vasectomy

gunnarfuchs0628

Pretty sure you're not supposed to have blood in your semen. Might Wana get that checked out if it's still happening.

[deleted]

Yeah, that's normal 1-2 emissions after the procedure, but not after that.

gunnarfuchs0628

They way he worded it made it sound like there was blood before the procedure lol

weaseltorpedo

imagine like throwing a jar of chunky salsa at the wall

TWAT_BUGS

Blue balls is even harsh. I’ve had blue balls that immobilized me. My vasectomy not once kept me down.

AtomicHurricaneBob

I learned that I love frozen peas.

[deleted]

[удалено]

AtomicHurricaneBob

Up until now, i was trying to figure out what to do tonight.

bard329

In that case, i recommend double bagging it. For safety.

Kind_Substance_2865

When your wife suggests a vasectomy, the wrong answer is “but what if my next wife wants kids?”

logic5813

I told my wife she should be happy. We don't have to worry about a unwanted child and also that my girlfriend won't have a kid of mine too. Wife was not pleased but girlfriend was upset because she wanted my baby.

The_River_Is_Still

I’m seeing a lot of frozen peas. You know, you could use frozen corn, Lima beans, the assorted veggie mix, I mean, the sky is the limit.

nlaverde11

No big deal. The worst part for me personally was the shot they gave me to numb the area before hand, that burned like hell. Actual procedure was easy. Spent the weekend on the couch with a bag of frozen peas and then got on with my life.

randomfury

When I have friends going for the procedure my go to line is “don’t worry man, it’s as painless as a needle in the nuts.”

PunchARacist

To me, the only bad part was the smell of the cauterization of my vas deferens.. the procedure was fine. Local anesthesia before and during just felt slight tugging no pain. Recovery was easy. No pain. No cons. Only pros. And if absolutely need be it’s reversible. Much easier and less invasive than a woman getting her tubes tied and significantly less harmful than birth control. I’m an advocate. Get it done!

Mateussf

What did your doctor tell you about the success rate of the reversion?

Dr-Knockers

I’ve heard from reliable sources that the emotional toll of a reversion, or “Snip-Snap” as it’s referred to in the business, is quite high as well.

Mateussf

Emotional toll? Like it physically affects your feelings?

AsiaisDed

I think he was misquoting The Office https://youtu.be/2hshkdneE8o?si=LpB44puLjnFe9H95

AlexRyang

“You have no idea the toll that three vasectomies takes on somebody!”

flyer08

SNIP SNAP, SNIP SNAP, SNIP SNAP!!!

Danizzy1

My doctor didnt say anything about the actual success rate. Just said that insurance doesnt cover it, it's not guaranteed to work, and that you should consider a vectomy a permanent procedure.

ssjewers

Thing is that the sperm doesn't get ejaculated. Meaning it remains in the body and the body will break it down to get rid off it. After some time your body realizes that none of if gets used and will start slowing down the production more and more. So in the first view years the success rate of a reversal is very high. However after 10+ years it gets lower and lower and you shouldn't expect to be fertile after that point if you reverse.

Janube

>However after 10+ years it gets lower and lower and you shouldn't expect to be fertile after that point if you reverse. tbf, you're not usually getting a vasectomy until well into your 20s at the earliest. Average age for it is 35. If you decide you want kids at 45, more power to you, but unless your wife is much younger, you should consider adoption anyway.

ssjewers

Not arguing with any of that. Just saying what the doctor told me.

Samorsomething

My doc said that the reversal success rate is around 50% but it costs $10,000 (Aus). The quote for the initial surgery was only $400.

JudgeHoltman

My (US, Midwest metro) Doc said the reversal runs $15-20k and is not covered by almost any insurance. So you're paying cash and that's the actual cash price. Because unlike the Vasectomy the reversal is "real, fully knock you out" Microsurgery with a non zero amount of risk. Also the recovery time is way longer and the "no ejacilating" rule is an absolute must. The success rate starts at about 80% one year out dropping about, 5-10%, per year after that. Each attempt is 10-20% chance of permenant, irreparable damage which you cannot sue for because they make you sign a ton of waivers for informed consent. So basically, don't get snipped and plan on getting it reversed. If you want a reversible vasectomy, look into the gel/epoxy plug that's getting traction in India. Do your homework though because there's good reasons it isn't FDA approved here yet.

GuestCartographer

For me, it wasn’t the smell but watching the little puffs of smoke during the cauterization. That was truly and deeply unsettling. Otherwise, yeah, nothing major to report. Stayed in bed for a day watching old horror movies and assembling a Lego plant. Pretty much business as usual after that.

notmyidealusername

I didn't get the smell from the caiterizing, but my guy didn't quite use enough anesthetic and on the first sizzle of the second one I felt a little pain. I winced a bit and said something like "ooh I felt that", he quickly says "how about this?" SSZZZZT! YEOWCH! Yep! "That's ok, you're all done now". Kinda funny looking back on it and probably the best approach rather than mucking around trying to numb it more with my sack split open.

redsloth

The procedure was mostly easy besides the feeling that something was being tugged out of my torso, felt that in my entire body. I waited a week before doing anything strenuous. Eventually went for an easy walk and woke up the next morning with a mass that felt like a painful third testicle. Of course I was freaked out a bit. Called the urologist and went in for an ultrasound. The UC tech 'couldn't find' the mass and referred me back to the urologist. They opened me up again, determined it was inflammation and sent me home with instructions on tending the new hole in the boys. Packed the hole with gauze for almost 2 months before the inflammation went down.

shavemejesus

I told my wife I was gonna get a vasectomy. She bet me I wouldn’t because I didn’t have the balls.

GaleNotTheWind

Ba-dum cha!

Historical_Spinach_6

The physical experience was fine. I didn’t take it easy enough afterwards so I swelled up pretty badly. But about 2 weeks later I was good to go. The worst was the emotional experience. I was sexually assaulted as a boy and dealt with lots of trauma. I didn’t even think about it, but as soon as the urologist touched me, I had a horrific response. That was one of the worst experiences of my life. Felt like I was assaulted all over again. I wish during the appointments leading up to it they would warn this kind of response could happen. It’s no one’s fault, but it was terrible for me. Took me a few days to recover psychologically.

GaleNotTheWind

I’m so sorry! 😞

Ohhshiny---

So sorry this happened to you. Not many would think of this as a side effect to this procedure so thank you for bringing the awareness to the possibility others may go through this and to be prepared.

puterTDI

I’m sorry for what you went through. Just as a heads up, it’s urologist, not a neurologist :)

Historical_Spinach_6

Ah yes, silly mistake.

richwat00

Got a vasectomy, it worked. Got it reversed, that worked.... twice Got another vasectomy...17 years later, all good. Just go to a legit great Dr. I mean top of the field Dr. For ANY messsin around down there. Vasectomy is WAY easier now than 25-30 years ago. In/out in an hour... The only thing that hasn't changed? ... The bag of frozen peas ..😂

thingandstuff

Jesus dude, you might as well just have a ball valve installed at that point.

alexramirez69

Snip snap snip snap

PuzzleheadedCanary47

Spent a year dealing with lingering pain and discomfort but it settled after that. Also, I don’t ejaculate as much as I did. Other than it is what it is. I’d still do it again.

Olly0206

I just had my vasectomy about 6 weeks ago, and I'm still dealing with some mild to moderate pain. My procedure was a little different than what most guys talk about. So I don't know if that had anything to do with it. My doc put me under for the procedure, and it took about 45mins or so. I have two incisions, each about a quarter of an inch, maybe a tad longer. He said after cutting a tube, he cauterized one side and tied tissue over the other side of the tube and then did that for both testicles. He said this method had an extremely high success rate for him, which is why he preferred doing it this way. The pain i have is exclusively in my testicles. They're just ultra sensitive. As long as they don't get knocked around or anything, they are fine, but if I'm not careful sitting down or something, they can get kinda pinched and uncomfortable. The more that happens, the more uncomfortable turns into full-on pain. They're also very tender after ejaculation. Wife and I have to be kinda low effort during sex. They really hurt if I'm going to hard/fast. So she is doing more on top to manage that, but they still bounce around a bit even if we are doing cowgirl. I am really hoping this goes away soon, but reading your experience makes me a bit worried that this could stick around a long time.

reubenmitchell

It can sorry. Mine has never gone away after 8 years

Whatasonofabitch

I had a similar experience. I had random pain like I had just been hit in the nuts for a few months. For a couple of years I had bouts of soreness that lasted for days. On balance it was probably worth it but I certainly wouldn’t have taken the decision so lightly if I had known what I was in for.

GaleNotTheWind

Oof. Did your doc say if they nicked a nerve or if that was a common symptom?

Are_You_Illiterate

“One study suggested 15 per cent of men experienced long term, debilitating testicular pain after a vasectomy[1]. Other reports suggest the figure could be as high as one in three men being affected by different degrees of pain and post vasectomy discomfort, varying in severity and over time.“ https://www.birminghamprostateclinic.co.uk/penile-urethral/conditions/post-vasectomy-pain-syndrome-post-vasectomy-testicular-pain/#:~:text=One%20study%20suggested%2015%20per,testicular%20pain%20after%20a%20vasectomy. 1. McMahon A, Buckley J, Taylor A, Lloyd S, Deane R, Kirk D (1992) “Chronic testicular pain following vasectomy”. British Journal of Urology. 1992;69:188-191. To be clear, I don’t have a horse in this race. Just want to point out that there appears to some research which has shown that vasectomies can cause lingering/chronic pain in many instances, though the exact frequency seems to range anywhere from 3 - 33% depending on what study you look at. That’s a fairly large percentage, since even at the low end of 3% that’s 1/33 men and potentially as much as 1/3 men, with at least 1/6 being a safe bet. It seems this type of chronic pain is definitely the main risk. Don’t listen to advocates who have positions based on gender politics, but please look at the scientific literature and make a choice for yourself with a full awareness of the potential risks/benefits Here’s another study with lots of citations: “Contemporary studies suggest that chronic PVPS is more common than originally thought. McMahon et al. [5] reported chronic testicular pain in 33% of men who had vasectomy, which was troublesome in 15% and caused 5% to seek medical attention. Choe and Kirkemo [10] identified chronic scrotal pain in 18.7% of patients after vasectomy, which adversely affected quality of life in 2.2%. ” http://vasectomy-lib.s3.amazonaws.com/BJU%20International%202008%20Tandon.pdf Tandon, S., & Sabanegh Jr, E. 314159265358979326

Yeah, it's rare you can find a procedure that's completely free of side effects. I'm grateful that I didn't have these side effects. I wonder how much it depends on the surgeon.

reubenmitchell

Chiming in as a sufferer. 8 years later, still in pain, no solution.

PuzzleheadedCanary47

I think it was a one off kind of thing. If the pain hadn’t disappeared when it did he was going to go back in so maybe my mind said nope not doing that.. I often wonder if I should have taken that option but I’m sure it wouldn’t have been a simple snip. More like a surgical procedure. It works I’m ok with it that was 12 yrs ago. Felt like I’d been kicked in the bag but in a lingering lighter sensation.

ccscs1384

Oh boy, here we go. I had my vasectomy 2 weeks ago. First operation went as expected. Local anesthesia and the smell of burnt flesh. 2 hours later my sack was the size of a grapefruit. And I kept passing out every time I stood up. I went back to the same office, and they did an ultrasound on my testicles to make sure sure the hemorrhage and clots didn’t stop the blood flow They sent me home and said if it gets worse, go the the ER. A couple hours later, my sack was so full of blood I couldn’t sit to pee or stand to pee because my penis looked up to the ceiling and I couldn’t bend it down to make the toilet. So I had to pee in the shower My wife gets home from work and asks to see it. She freaked out and and took me to the ER. By this time my sack was larger than a cantaloupe. I had to carry it into the ER. The front desk lady let me in right away and gave me a bed within a minute of getting there. I ended up having emergency surgery. They cleaned out lots of blood clots and pockets of blood. And had an 8” incision with stiches and a drain tube with a bulb. My sack was 100% full of blood and my stomach up to my belly button was swollen with blood It’s still black and blue but almost back to the original size

TheHomieHandler

People like you are exactly why I went in and did it without reading reddit threads. Now that I'm done, I absolutely love these stories.

bugzeye26

That's awful. Be prepared for a hematoma. They hurt like a mother fucker and take forever to go away

bluegiant85

Recovery wasn't bad. Getting to sleep with psycho chicks trying to get pregnant is totally worth it.

imightgetdownvoted

That’s exactly what I told my wife!

postvasectomy

Hurt every day for four years until I got a reversal, which cost me about $10,000 out of pocket. Now it only hurts some days. Also really reduced my enjoyment of ejaculation. Ejaculating sometimes literally felt like nothing was happening down there except muscles clenching. Sensation came back about 50% after reversal. 1/10 would not recommend. /r/postvasectomypain

WastingTimeIGuess

Why the heck are people downvoting this guy? I realize his experience is not yours and unusual, but that is not what the down arrow means.

[deleted]

Right? How dare he have a bad vasectomy and share his experience here!

GaleNotTheWind

That’s just awful! I’m so sorry. Did doc explain what went wrong?

postvasectomy

Luck of the draw. Sometimes they hit the wrong nerves. Sometimes you make spermatic fluid too fast for your body to tolerate losing the vas deferens. 98% of the time there are no permanent problems.

Garand

Is there any way they can known beforehand you are at more risk for these types of complications?

KingKliffsbury

My balls swelled to the size of a grapefruit and were incredibly painful for 5 weeks. But afterwards everything returned to normal. Sorry about your experience, I thought mine was bad.

Angellayne26-2

Just remember that you may not be in pain when you get home, but that doesn’t mean you can’t pick your kid up as she runs to welcome you home… yeah that was my mistake. After that bags and bags of peas!

53ANY

10/10 would do it again. Had it on an afternoon, was playing table tennis by the evening. No pain.

poop_to_live

I might caution people to not do physical activity immediately after lol. Talk to your physician!

Starting with the Op itself, the first thing they do is inject the anesthetic. To me, the initial jab was fine, but the stuff pushing in did feel like someone was squeezing my balls for a good few seconds before it kicked in. The cutting was completely painless after that. Yeah, you feel a bit of a tug and can hear the snips being made, but the doctor was nice and chatty so you don't focus on it. The smell as they cauterise is interesting to say the least, then they put on some burny stuff right at the end to seal you up. That feels like a tingle that gets steadily hotter and hotter. Didn't hurt as much as the starting ball squeeze though (forgot they do this again when moving onto the next ball). Post op I was uncomfortable and the balls did feel bruised. Had to dodge my children who often run around at ball height. I would say I felt comfortable enough to have a tug at around 2 weeks. After 3-4 weeks, all back to normal. No change to how it looked before except for occasional bit of blood mixed in. Next step is to tug and have sex as much as possible. You have 4 months to wait for your first test, and you want to aim for about 80 releases or so to clear your tubes as it were. That is a long 4 months by the way, and waiting on my first test. Still then have to do another test a month later to get the all clear. Overall, defo the right choice for me and the wife. Just waiting for the benefits now 😁

oilpressuredelete

45 minutes in and out, don't feel anything in your balls during, but I got the hit in the balls feeling in my stomach a few times. The Dr who did it was hilarious and we joked the whole time. Afterwords was sore but nothing bad. They say wait 7 days before sex. We waited 24 hours to have sex (gently) and nothing bad happened. A week of slight soreness and trying not to lift anything heavy or standing up to fast and I was back to normal. 12/10 would get snipped again. Make sure you go back to get your jizz checked when they tell you to. We bought a microscope off Amazon to check ourselves just for fun. Overall a great time, lots of laughs. Edit: fixing autocorrect spelling

This guy fucks! (Gently)

I think mine only took about ~3-4 songs in terms of length of how long it took the doctor. He surprised himself by how quick it was. I also accidentally scared the shit out of him and the nurse. The cauterization sound was LOUD and I flinched and yelled. I was super embarrassed since the both looked concerned, but then I revealed I didn't feel it but the sound caught me off guard. My advice is to stock up on Imodium. I had to poop ~6 times in my first ~3 hours after I got home. I definitely had that feeling of where they pull on your tubes for hours after and it upset my belly super badly until the Imodium kicked in. Also, I realized that the cramping feeling I was experiencing was very likely what women felt with menstrual cycles. My discomfort only lasted about the rest of the night, but they deal with that all the time. As the others have said, not using your new toy for a week afterwards is not a good time, and my co-workers were giving me shit for it. But then they followed up with questions about it since they were younger than me. Mine was done just over a year ago last week, and I would definitely make the same decision again.

hawkman1000

First time I jerked off after the procedure, I came blood. I quickly developed a UTI. Probably the sickest I have ever been in my life. Went back to the urologist and he said it was just a coincidence. Sure Doc, whatever. Gave me antibiotics and everything was fine after I got the infection cleared up.

Janube

Just got one a couple months ago. 30 minute outpatient procedure. Two hits of moderate discomfort, one hit of extreme pain at the very end (almost passed out). Local anesthesia just wasn't quite strong enough. Nothing else of note except that I'm apparently one of 15-40% to develop a "sperm granuloma" which is inflammation of the snipped end of the vas deferens as a result of sperm leakage. Need to take anti-inflammatories for an indeterminate period of time and it'll usually go away on its own, but the night I found the lump, I was very concerned (no one mentioned this). Just feels like a little ball on the end of some of the wires in the sack. Otherwise, everything's functioning fine. One weird thing I can't find an answer on- as a circumcised man, after the vasectomy, the head of my dick will occasionally get consumed by the hood (when soft obviously), which literally never happened before, but I haven't seen a single person share a similar occurrence, so big shrug on that one. Just a cosmetic thing I noticed; not really important.

Interviewed a few urologists. Went with one doing non-scalpel vasectomies (this was 20 years ago). Showed up. The nurse went to prep me and complimented me on how well I had shaved my balls and she didn’t have to do anything. Doc came in. They put a topical on my sac. Then injected a local. Made a hole. The only disturbing part of the experience was the smell during cauterizing. Imagine burned meat.. but you’re the meat. Afterwards, they put in a single dissolving stitch; Packed my tighty whiteys with gauze (was instructed to wear these day-of); and sent me home with Tylenol. Recovery was frozen peas, lounging around, and periodically repacking gauze. Pain level was on par with hitting the cross bar on a bike for about a day. Two clean tests before giving up alternate birth control. Two decades later and no surprises.

Asked my doctor, she immediately said "yeah I'll refer you", I got a call a few days later to schedule an appointment, and about an hour after I got there I walked out and drove home. For specifics, the first half of the procedure was easy and mostly painless BUT... about halfway through I noticed the anesthesia start to wear off. It started as a sort of dull ache, then when the throbbing started I decided to say something and the doc gave me another shot. ...which only lasted a couple minutes and before long I was four shots deep and my lower body was starting to shake and sweat profusely. I wouldn't say it was *painful* per SE but it was intensely uncomfortable. Thankfully he finished up before things got worse; when I stood up the sheet under me was absolutely **soaked** so that was embarrassing. Afterwards it took about a month for the stitches to dissolve and the pain (which again I would just describe as "intensely uncomfortable") to go away. A bit longer than they said it would take but no complications to speak of. Plus it barely cost anything with my insurance, I think I only paid like $90. I'd highly recommend. Fun aside: my so and I definitely took note that not one person asked me if I was sure I wanted the procedure. Not even so much as a question about my current familial situation, and I'm under 40. Meanwhile my wife was told she would literally have two options, be paralyzed or die, if she tried to have a baby, and they *still* wouldn't let her get it done. *In the same conversation*.

lostagain238

Anyone had one done 5-10+ yrs ago? Still doing good? Was all for it until I read about the increased risk of prostate cancer… [Vasectomy and Prostate Cancer Risk: A 38-Year Nationwide Cohort Study](https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/31119294/)

ThePhiff

Four minutes total procedure time. After the anesthetic wore off, it felt like I had been kicked in the balls the day before. I had it done the day before Thanksgiving, so the next day I kicked back with a cocktail and a bag of frozen peas and watched the parade. Felt better by the time I was sober. The worst part was applying neosporin every day. Incision full healed super quick, and ever since the only difference I notice is never worrying.

Kiowascout

a little pain. a lot of numb. Some tugging originating at my ball sac but felt up in my stomach. Ice packs for four days. Balls turned this amazing shade of purplish black for about a week. had to have something like 20 or 30 ejaculations before jizzing in a cup two separate times and awaiting the vasectomy pass/fail diagnosis before going on a raw dog frenzy for the rest of my life.

radieschen-von-unten

I had mine about 4 years ago, little swelling for about a week and very little pain for two days. For me sex feels way more free. No "accidents" or surprises. Also - and I wonder if anyone can confirm: My orgasms became way more intensive/better

SoyInfinito

I couldn’t walk for a week. Sex had a strange pain for the next year. The “explosive release” is gone. Sex drive significantly continued to drop over time. Now I could care less.

yeaahh_no

They gave me Valium and Percocet prior to even walking into the room. Then gave me another pain pill following the procedure. Then said go home and ice your balls for a few days. Had to jack off to make sure they didn’t jack up the procedure. Been shooting blanks for 8 years. Saved a ton on condoms. Granted it would have only been a single 3 pack but still. Saved money!

hedgiesarefcukd2023

MOST IMPORTANT TIP. Wear briefs not boxers to the operation and for the week after, they are way too loose and the swelling will be awful.

AnotherTiredDad

I tend to play too much. Nurse: here sign this paperwork saying you won’t sue and that you’re here for a vasectomy. Me: A vasectomy? Nurse: WHAT?!?!?!? Me: Just kidding, that’s correct. 30 minutes later when they removed that part of the tube: Nurse: Do you want to see it? She proceeded to hold it up to my face before I could respond. She got me back pretty good.

chaka972

I have had two. First one went normal, my wife at the time had schizophrenia and we did not want to pass along to a child. We got divorced and then wife#2 suggested we try. I got the reversal and that was pretty rough. I have two awesome kids so went back for a second one. For some reason no amount of anesthesia worked. It fucking hurt. The guy finally ran out of whatever he was injecting me with and I told him to just get it over with.

foulchild21

Started having a panic attack while the doc was doing the first side. I felt like I was going to pass out and was hyperventilating. The doc looked at my and said " you don't look so good do you want to stop" I thought to myself oh jeez are you serious? No I don't want to stop hurry up and get this done. He ended up getting it all done. Recovery definitely hurt the first week. I was glad I took time off, it hurt to walk or really do anything. I would say it took about 3 months for the pain in my groin to be completely gone. First couple months it would hurt every time I came and would feel discomfort in my balls. But not that's all gone and I have no residual symptoms. So all in all it was worth it.

WalterZenga

Had mine last Saturday, so I'm a week in. I've had tenderness pretty much all week but it's definitely subsiding now. Did my first 3 mile run this morning and all was fine. With regards to the procedure, I felt her pulling my tubes out and she had to apply more anesthetic, it was as bad as all the men reading this are imagining it was.

jeezwhatalife

Only felt a slight sting getting the numbing agent injected. mentioned to the doc he needed a fan running during the cauterization. Worked on cleaning out the pipes for a few weeks while looking forward to the "all clear" from the test shots. Some lingering pain/discomfort during doggy which happens to some guys but it passed after a few months. And lost my love of frozen peas.

srakken

Don’t handle your kids after it. One of them kicked me in the nuts. They swelled up to the size of two baseballs. Don’t let them jump on you, jump into your lap etc. Seriously keep them away! Shitty recovery but still worth it.

ja_staubin

My dr knicked something and it bleed a lot more than normal on one side. Hematoma swelled to the size of a baseball. Took about 2 week for it to mostly disappear. He said I’ll forever have a marble size nodule. Edit - still 100% worth it and recommended.

[deleted]

Piece of cake - the procedure, from numbing to deed, took 30 minutes. Felt sore for a few days, then felt 100%. After the sperm test, I was back to getting it on without worrying about spawning another mini-me. Two is enough for us. Recommend 11/10. Should’ve had it done sooner. Since my partner doesn't bear the burden of birth control, sex feels much more spontaneous and fun.

whigger

Exactly same experience. Our two children are now adults. Was quite a relief to not worry about birth control.

ProtexisPiClassic

No big deal. Procedure was easy enough. I just hung out on the couch a few days with frozen peas. No complications. Now I'm sterile and otherwise everything is the exact same.
