Not me. But i'm getting septoplasty in 2 weeks so hopefully that'll help. But it won't help my brain being too active at night. Or maybe it will due to the influx of air. I don't know.
> The feeling of having nothing that needs to be done while also having the day off.
It's raining, but not so cold that you can't have the windows open and cold enough that a blanket wrapped around you feels just right.
You fell asleep last night on the cliffhanger of a show you just started binging.
You remembered while coming home from work yesterday to grab a bunch of snacks and some drinks for the long weekend.
Your plug dropped off a fresh sack and it's purple and sticky.
All your neighbors went out of town for the holiday weekend, so it's dead quiet.
Your pet is waiting patiently for you to get settled so it can snuggle in your lap.
Being indoors while it rains is like a biological hack. I think it's because humans getting stuck in the rain is real dangerous, so being dry and sheltered while it's raining is hardwired in us to feel rewarding.
Note: i'm not a biology expert, but I've been human my whole life.
My family has a lake house in northern Vermont, there is absolutely nothing better than a mid-afternoon storm, watching the rain come across the lake and then listening to the lake get pelted by millions of drops.
I can smell the colors
Outside on my lawn
The moist green organic
That my feet tread upon
And the black oleander
Surrounded by blues
I'm soon overwhelmed
By olfactory hues
I grew up in Texas, specifically in the part of Texas where rain is uncommon, and nearly always brings more than a little bad news. The sort of rain that I grew up with tended to come with storms that would level cities, and put fist sized holes in your roof. It made driving safely at any speed impossible, and would soak you to the skin in seconds without a lot of rain gear - and even then you'd be lucky to last more than a few minutes.
But I always loved the rain.
I moved to the Pacific Northwest last year over the summer, and was warned by everyone I've ever met that the rain would come, and with it the long, cold dark of winter. A lot of people move up here from Texas, often for similar reasons, and a lot of them are struggling right now, feeling trapped inside by the constant rain. But the rain up here, at least in my particular corner of the Pacific Northwest, isn't rain as I'd understood it. It is the kind of thing that given a decent jacket you can endure and stay relatively dry for hours in. I think my favorite part of the day is walking my cranky old dog in the rain, even as she demands that we go for miles, just listening to the almost imperceptible patter of rain on my coat, soaking in the scents of rain and trees. (Also I finally have a reason to own a trench coat, a primal need that I'd denied for far, far too long on account of living somewhere where such a garment would never, ever be useful.)
I didn't know the actual numbers, and that's absolutely mind-boggling. And now I can say a sharks' ability to sense blood is miniscule compared to a humans ability to sense rain. Kudos, friend.
Rain in general for me. My favourite type of day is when it's just grey and calm and raining steadily. It's so peaceful. Rainy streets at night are another favourite - I miss old orange streetlamps though.
Shoutouts to r/raining and r/thenightfeeling :)
We’re about to get a little snow storm tonight & im probably just going to stay up until 3am so I can sit outside to listen to the silence. It’s so nostalgic for me for me
my fav thing in life... I swear some people don't appreciate the beauty of a perfect sunset
the purple/pink ones are the best, but sunset orange is always my fav color
Every morning when I bring out the bird feeders there's a Titmouse waiting for me and will eat peanuts out of my hand. It'll even fly to my empty hand from about 15' away. I love it so much.
Driving.
I bought a 2004 Mustang GT with a 5 speed transmission, and that car pulled me out of a deep depression. I felt like life was hopeless until I bought that car.
It's not even a good car. Compared to any other vehicle on the road, it's a piece of shit. But I fucking love it.
You keep on loving your shitbox and drive the hell out of it! And shame on anyone who tries to hate. It's YOUR shitbox, not anyone else's. Extra points for the manual. Did you learn on this car or already know how?
I learned on it. My first car was a 2010 Toyota Avalon from my grandparents, the Mustang is my 2nd car.
When I bought it, the engine was pulled. So me and 4 buddies spent a weekend or two putting the engine back into it and getting it running.
After she was good enough to drive home, I learned how to drive stick on the hour and a half long trip home. My prior experience was about 5 minutes in the driveway getting into 2nd gear LOL.
There's this little seafood place near us that my wife and I go to every now and then. I love it because it's mostly old people that go there and it's like seeing us in the future. We're in our mid 50's and grandparents and it's starting to feel like we belong there now,
##I love the sun.
The feel of the warmth on my skin. How it lights up millions of differing shapes and objects. How it helps my body produce vitamin D. The way it lets my body know when I should be awake.
Sunsets.
Every angle that the sun is at, at every single point of the day. I'm grateful that the sun exists.
Maybe not when I've been exposed so long that my skin is prickly though.
(It's technically not small but, eh.)
Me too! When life gets super stressful, when is it NOT, I love to divert my attention to books. It is a lovely vacation in the mind. When you can read and comprehend, you can go ANYWHERE!
Simple pleasures. A bloom on a plant. The way the sun cuts through a dark cloud. A cleansing rain. A delicate snowfall.
Walking through the woods, no humans in sight.
Really, nothing that costs $$$ but the bounty nature bestows upon us!
In late July in Minnesota there's usually one or two evenings where the humidity, temperature and wind speed are perfect.
I sit out in my backyard in my Adirondack in the dark and listen to the late summer sounds and the gentle wind through my trees.
It is perfection.
Primal things like fire, the ocean, a full moon, or just an animal that gives you a little jolt all immediately clear out the memory cache in my head.
I walk around mulling over work stuff or stressing about politics. Maybe trying to help resolve family arguments but if I’m driving and catch a glimpse of the full moon I feel like the snake being charmed.
Sitting by a fire or watching a caterpillar climb a tree is like mind bleach. I live for those moments where everything melts away and I’m just being a human not judging myself for what I’m not just being what I am.
I love so many little things, but to name a few:
Driving on backroads on a really nice day, singing along to good music and just vibin'
The first pleasantly warm, sunny day after a long, cold winter
Super soft things like stuffed animals, blankets, pajamas, robes. Anything comfy-cozy just makes everything better
I have zero issues clipping into my snowboard bindings standing up. But for some runs I'll sit down out of the way so I can enjoy the view for a minute.
I love listening to my kids shit talk each other. Hell, just talking to each other or interacting. I love knowing that when I'm gone, they will have each other.
my dog finding me when we play hide and seek - he gets progressively more worried when he can't find me so I'll make little noises and then it's like the best moment of his life every time and he does that wiggly kidney bean thing. it's so cute and my heart goes all warm
My cat's excitedness when I wake up in the morning. It's not even that he wants food, he's just genuinely happy to see me after so long, and it makes me excited to wake up just to see him dash across the room to greet me
Scent of a freshly showered women
the way hugs feel from my kids
Smell of coffee and bacon cooking in the
morning
Feel of a new shirt
New cowboy boots
The moment before sleep and seeing my already asleep wife and son
the sound of my truck when I first fire it up in the Cool Texas morning
sunscreen, cold beer, inner tube
Oxycodone and whiskey
A full night sleep without waking up.
And waking up not feeling more tired?
People do that?!
Not me. But i'm getting septoplasty in 2 weeks so hopefully that'll help. But it won't help my brain being too active at night. Or maybe it will due to the influx of air. I don't know.
Just came here to say, as you know, you're no the only one. We're all struggling with sleep.
Never happens to me. But waking up and seeing I've got another 2 or 3 hours before I need to get up is pretty great.
Definitely missing this. I have a newborn and haven’t had a full night’s sleep in 7 weeks.
I too wish to not wake up
I can’t remember the last time I had that.
The feeling of having nothing that needs to be done while also having the day off.

aaaannddd I’m tearing up 🥲
You're plug dropped off a fresh sack and its purple and sticky? Is that a sexual reference or am I just too old to realise this is drug related?
Plug is a dealer, sack of purple and sticky is literally purple and sticky weed, which are favorable traits for some dank ass firaga
Many thanks for the explanation
Perfect.
you just gave me chills.
That feeling of sliding into bed after a long day. Bonus for clean sheets and a made bed. Just feels so good.
And you just had a shower!
bonus for a clean sheets, made bed, and freshly shaved legs!
Another bonus if you worked out/your body was physically exhausted that day
And freshly shaven, lotions legs!! 😍😍
Rain smell.
Rain noise too, makes me wanna go asleep.
The roaring thunder
Unless you’re the one getting hit
I never said I’d mind.

"Petrichor" is the word for that. Beautiful word

It's called petrichor and humans can smell in the air in parts per TRILLION
The cool part about this is it works exactly the same way as sharks smelling blood. Fun little analogy
Humans can smell petrichor several times better ( at 100ppt) than sharks smell blood anything less than 1ppm sharks cant sense it, but yes truth lol
I didn't know the actual numbers, and that's absolutely mind-boggling. And now I can say a sharks' ability to sense blood is miniscule compared to a humans ability to sense rain. Kudos, friend.

>squonk lol it's a podcast I also looked up squonk...not disappointed!!
It's like an ugly Eeyore, but I'd totes give big hug. Don't cry my horrifically ugly lil fren 🥹
my new dating bio lmao
I hate being cold so much but I think the silence and watching the snow sparkle is so beautiful, particularly at night.
What’s strange is that cold temps amplify sound. I’m with you though. The silence is beautiful.
Oh yes!
There’s also the soft staticky sound during a snowfall that is soothing as fuck.
We’re about to get a little snow storm tonight & im probably just going to stay up until 3am so I can sit outside to listen to the silence. It’s so nostalgic for me for me
Sunsets. They always give me a lovely nostalgic feeling.
I agree… I wonder why

When you pet a sleeping cat and they do the activation noise

I love that sound so much
It’s the best

It's little things like this that count
No matter how little it is, it’s always exciting finding some money
Even if it was your money to begin with, still feel like a winner.
I purposefully put money in my winter jackets when I put them away for the season. Each winter I forget about it and stoked I found money!
seeing cats either my own or one on the street that comes up for pets
