Whenever an ad plays for This Is Me... Now and it's her singing fucking terribly it makes me let out a huge exasperated sigh. She can't sing for shit. She is so out of tune.
A local radio station has been playing Selena a lot lately. Every time her song comes on, I think how if she was still alive, we wouldn't have to know who Jennifer Lopez even is.
Thanks for sharing this. I have never stopped loving Mariah since I was a young woman and I loved all the shade on this video.
Ashanti and Christina and the others deserve recognition and I hope one day they all get it.
For those who didn’t stick around because of the narration, here’s two fantastic Mariah quotes:
On speaking with JLo for an interview:
>“I bet it was really intellectually stimulating…I bet you could just see the depth in her eyes, it was so soulful.”
And regarding Mariah only sleeping 3 hours a night due to being so busy but JLo professing to sleep 8…
>” if I had the luxury of not having to sing my own songs, Id do that too”
😂 the shade!
Videos of his tour with Ricky Martin and Pitbull went viral on TikTok largely due to his off-tune screeching of, “Don’t stop baby don’t stop baby…” If you go to TikTok there are oodles of videos of him squeaking out some lyrics under “Ricky Martin can’t sing.” Also, oddly, videos of him humping the stage seemingly at random too.
The thing is he used to be able to sing and with a lot of help in production his voice still sounds quite good.
Also he is secretly bald or something (which wouldn't be an issue) always wearing hats or tuques. Own it man. I grew up loving the guy's music and it heavily influenced me into learning spanish so will always be grateful.
I saw him play on his solo tour at some dive in Superior, Wisconsin. Nobody knew his solo songs and booed when he played non-Crue shit, he walked off the stage and show was over
Ah! I can’t stand this trend with younger singers. They chew up the words and stretch an o until it’s an I, and there’s like this New Yorker-esque baby talk accent to it that is nails on a chalkboard! And it’s getting progressively more prevalent… it’s grrrwwwooooohhissse.
My wife and I watched some of the Spice Girls' videos the other day and we both noticed for the first time that they don't let Victoria sing. In fact, Mel B and Geri seem to really do most of the work and Mel C gets the odd solo for variety because she had the most distinctive voice.
Mel C was the lead vocalist, in my opinion. She was the only one who ever really got to belt out high notes. Her and Emma did most of the verses, Mel B and Geri would mostly do the chorus. And Victoria... Well Victoria is really pretty.
Mel C was pretty much the only one to have her solo career pop off globally like the band did. Albeit brief, I'm fairly certain she was the only one with that claim.
First in my head as well. However, watching the Netflix (or Hulu?) doc about the night they filmed "We Are The World" was really interesting. Bob Dylan was there and gracious, and seemed very aware that he wasn't the singer that the others in the room were. They told him to just sing it like himself, not like someone else, and he did.
To me, his part has always been a standout in that song.
>They told him to just sing it like himself, not like someone else, and he did.
Bob Dylan struggles with his part and asks for Stevie. Stevie Wonder comes over and sings the part *in Bob Dylan's voice*, then Bob Dylan copies that. It's pretty cool to see.
That part with Stevie and him was incredible and will be etched in my mind forever. I was feeling for Bob Dylan during the whole show until then, he looked like he felt out of place. But like another poster said, his solo is one of the most memorable and recognizable.
The best was when Stevie Wonder imitated his voice to demonstrate to him how he should sing it!
But, yeah, he was so uncomfortable, but he hung in there. "That wasn't any good". Aww, Bob.
Great Documentary! So many great moments in that, particularly Lionel Richie saying how difficult it was to work at MJs house...what with a dog and parrot fighting in the basement
That video where she starts randomly screaming into the mic while Chuck Berry has a look that says "I have not done enough drugs to deal with this shit" still cracks me up every time.
He's using it more now! I just watched his on top of the covers show on youtube and it's phenomenal. He's a great performer and seems like a really good person.
I could be wrong, but I don't think she watered her voice down. I think IIRC in her early years she didn't have much/any voice training. When she was tagged to sing for Julie Andrews, she took it very seriously and got voice lessons, and came out with that amazing performance that shocked the hell out of all of us.
But she worked hard for it and continues to do so. Her voice previous was very good, but thanks to her hard work it's now an absolute powerhouse. I'm sure somebody will correct me if I have this all wrong.
I find this especially pleasing since finding out that Usher once told him he ‘kind of ruined R&B music’ because of his use of autotune, which plunged him into a deep depression for years. Fuck Usher.
I have to phrase this carefully, but Taylor Swift’s vocal precision has improved a whole lot. You can’t say she used to suck ass at singing or they’ll come running out of the depths like that scene from Lord of the Rings in Moria.
swiftie since 2008 and her live performances used to be so terrible I never watched them until like 2018, she got a looot better and really worked at it
Not a swiftie, but I'd like to point out that majority of her fanbase rave her for her stage presence and talent in songwriting, not specifically for being an extremely good vocalist
I don’t know if this counts but Lin Manuel Miranda is my vote. Genius lyrics and everything but his understudy is usually far and away more talented than he is. Great enthusiasm and presence. Wonderful creativity. Not a great singer.
Miranda **made the actors who starred in the off-Broadway version *audition* to be in the Broadway version**. But he gave himself the lead role, even though he’d never pass an audition for it *himself*.
I had the good fortune to see 2 of their shows in NYC standing next to stage (shameless plug my kid opened for them) but that moment, when 20000 middle aged kids standing in anticipation to sing in unison...
Wherrrrre are yoooouuu?
One of the coolest moments I've ever seen at a rock show, and I've seen hundreds
I don’t believe you necessarily have to have a good voice to be a ‘good’ singer. People are also drawn in by uniqueness, which is what Tom has going for him, you hear it and instantly know exactly who it is.
Selena Gomez is interesting to me because time and time again, her team churns out bops with excellent production and mixing and above average lyrics for a pop song, and her voice just…drags it all down.
She’s not a great performer either. She looks bored every time I see her perform in addition to not being a great singer. She can’t act either. Why is she famous again?
Not a horrible voice anymore, but Ed Sheeran is a brilliant example of what persistence, dedication and attitude can achieve. He doesn’t have any ‘natural’ talent with his voice if you listen to clips of him singing as a kid, it’s pretty much entirely worked for and developed over time.
People still don’t talk about Ed enough for this honestly. I have no issues with him being mega famous for what he’s done.
I watched that one live.
Oh man.
All our jaws dropped because we always knew she was bad... but not that awful. And then we started laughing at all the NBA players who were fighting to keep straight faces.
I wanted to say Miley Cyrus but wanted to go through the comments first to see if anyone mentioned her.
I thought I was the only one who hears this! She can sing very well and she does nothing wrong as a person but I just can't stand her voice.
It sounds like a smoker voice and a speech impediment together.
Haha I always thought the cast album would've been so much better if the alternate Hamilton sang in it 😅 And he's always singing, too. Let the singers sing, just use your genius for writing the music and lyrics and book of the play. 🎶 And that would be enough...🎶
It's not that he's bad but for musical theatre... His voice is just nothing special which then comes across disappointing in musical theatre. It's just below par compared to the rest. He's a great writer though! So multi-talented. And he can hit all the notes. His voice is just not fitting for musical theatre.
Madonna. She doesn't have a great voice in technical terms - you can actually hear her "chanting" or intoning some of the lyrics especially in her early music.
She's a great "performer" and personality and is/was outstanding at creating an image for herself. But her voice has never been great.

Whenever an ad plays for This Is Me... Now and it's her singing fucking terribly it makes me let out a huge exasperated sigh. She can't sing for shit. She is so out of tune.
Thank you! I am so over seeing her constantly. Like, just go live your privileged little life with Ben and leave us out of it!
It’s not that she’s out of tune she just has a very thin, reedy voice. Very thin and flimsy. No strength or depth.
She sings in the same voice she speaks in.
She’s only famous because she’s Tommy Mottola’s F U to Mariah Carey.
A local radio station has been playing Selena a lot lately. Every time her song comes on, I think how if she was still alive, we wouldn't have to know who Jennifer Lopez even is.
so Yolanda's real crime was launching JLo's career
getting Jennifer Lopez out of all people to replace Mariah Carey will always be funny to me
Aka Ashanti
Except her recordings, which (at least in the early days) had ghost singer
She has her name on several songs that were partially ghost-sung by Ashanti.
Are there any songs in particular you guys could point me to?
I’m real feat. Ja Rule Ashanti sings the chorus.

The streaming services have started correcting that.
You can hear Megan Trainer in Ain't Yo Mama. That was in 2016.
Play is just straight up a Christina Milian song
Enrique Iglesias. There's barely any non-playback live performance recordings of him. Once you hear one, you understand why
Videos of his tour with Ricky Martin and Pitbull went viral on TikTok largely due to his off-tune screeching of, “Don’t stop baby don’t stop baby…” If you go to TikTok there are oodles of videos of him squeaking out some lyrics under “Ricky Martin can’t sing.” Also, oddly, videos of him humping the stage seemingly at random too.
i went to one of the shows and can confirm. ricky martin was the best part of that show by far. dude crushed it.
I was in love with him as a child. Now I HAVE to do this lol
It gives me flashbacks to the bad guy in the Lizzy McGuire movie
Paolo Valisari! “Sing to me, Enrique!”
You mean Hero-live.flv was pre-recorded???? My whole life was a lie
I like how he went from this sensitive Latin lover guy, to "I'm fucking you tonight." It just seemed so weird and forced.
Bailamos was a “I’m fucking you tonight” song. That was before Hero
You’re kind of bursting my bubble. Where can I learn more?
Vince Neil of Motley Crue started as a bad singer and just got worse and worse.
https://youtu.be/vofNwO1u0mw?si=397mSpaIHpYROaqe
It’s honestly mad impressive to forget, or never learn a song you’ve performed for almost 40 years
Omg the comments! One person said, "It's not healthy to sing like that when you're sixteen months pregnant." ☠️
Reddit showed me this like a month ago and it has returned. Truly timeless.
Poopy butt Round the house Timeless lyrics
Big Mac 1.03 and the Brice Lee kicks have me choking.
It's ironic, they hired him more for his looks and now those are gone.
I saw him play on his solo tour at some dive in Superior, Wisconsin. Nobody knew his solo songs and booed when he played non-Crue shit, he walked off the stage and show was over
Like Crusty The Clown. We saw a solo performance at a fair grounds. Yup.
You can intentionally sing Biz Markie’s songs horrendously out of key on karaoke night and the audience will be like “omg this dude is nailing it”
YOOOOOOOOOOOOOOUUUUUUU YOU GOT WHAT I NEEEEEE-EEEEED
That’s his charm tho. Also rip
The girl that sang "I'll be home for Quismois"
Camilla Cabello
*I’ll be hooooome for Quizno’s*
Ah! I can’t stand this trend with younger singers. They chew up the words and stretch an o until it’s an I, and there’s like this New Yorker-esque baby talk accent to it that is nails on a chalkboard! And it’s getting progressively more prevalent… it’s grrrwwwooooohhissse.
Sounds like "[hip-singing](https://youtu.be/e-0K77ccAOU?si=1tjVcMcD6U4wyVX8)" I've always hated it.
Omg I’ve hated this style since I’ve noticed it I didn’t know there was a name for it.
Randy Marsh as Lorde.
Ya ya ya
Feeling good on a Wednesday!
Lorde Lorde Lorde...
Fergie sounding like a bullfrog at the Super Bowl was pretty horrific.
Lol what about at the all Star game. Someone made a book out of her performance.
Have to post the warriors locker room remix too https://youtu.be/9K9-XLIYaXI?si=tbL9iKh4-u3wpecA
One of the Spice Girls is pretty awful.
I'd say Mel C was the only decent singer of the bunch, her Northern Star album was ace
She was uploading some acoustic stuff during covid, she's definitely the best singer of the group. https://youtu.be/NxG47p_fn48?si=GqoeAOzOjL4pH6Iv
My wife and I watched some of the Spice Girls' videos the other day and we both noticed for the first time that they don't let Victoria sing. In fact, Mel B and Geri seem to really do most of the work and Mel C gets the odd solo for variety because she had the most distinctive voice.

Mel C was absolutely the lead. Her high notes were incredible.
Never Be The Same Again slaps so hard
Mel C was pretty much the only one to have her solo career pop off globally like the band did. Albeit brief, I'm fairly certain she was the only one with that claim.
I was just about to say, posh spice never sang. She just kinda stood around and posed all the time.
Can’t help but to assume she’s only in spice girls because her daddy drove a rolls Royce 😂
A working class Rolls Royce!
Be honest
Victoria can harmonize, but she was definitely not a strong singer for their powerhouse songs. She has a voice made for soft love songs
yes but no. Mel C > Mel B > Geri > Emma > Posh
Bob Dylan...good thing he could ***write*** good songs!
That was my favorite part too. I was like goddamn is there anything Stevie *can't* do?
One thing
Oh, I see.
“There’s a choice we’re making, we’re savin our own liiiives…just yuuu and meeee…”
Great Documentary! So many great moments in that, particularly Lionel Richie saying how difficult it was to work at MJs house...what with a dog and parrot fighting in the basement
Bob seemed like he had social anxiety throughout the entire recording session
it could be argued that Bob Dylan is actually a good *singer* with a horrible voice
yeah, he is never off pitch or anything that bugs me.
Yeah exactly. He's hitting those notes, he just sounds like a 100-year-old man doing it
He does deceptively difficult things too and makes it sound natural. Your average person doesn't get how good you have to be to do that.
I like his vocal on Lay Lady Lay. He sounds different there imo - studio tricks?
I think he was just singing in a different style at that time. Less of a head voice.
J’Lo.. (or maybe it’s just me) ..😬
Except when she has Meghan Trainor sing behind her, then suddenly her range magically improves 🤭
They basically mute J-Lo and just play Meghan’s backing vocals and it’s hilarious once you hear it. It can’t be unheard. I think it’s in Mama
Yoko Ono. Yikes.
this one doesnt count lmao
Including Yoko Ono on any list of "singers" is being too generous.
That video where she starts randomly screaming into the mic while Chuck Berry has a look that says "I have not done enough drugs to deal with this shit" still cracks me up every time.
They muted her mic
Jennifer Lopez
DRAKE! That nasal whining is NOT singing.
Nicki Minaj isn’t really a singer, but every time she tries it I have myself a good lil chuckle.
Isn’t really a good singer Or a good person lol
David Guetta certainly knows how to get the best out of her though.
Blippi
🎶Excavatuuuurrrr🎶
Hey dirt! See ya later!
You both go to hell. I already have that song stuck in my head once a day and now I’ve got it stuck in my head after the tiny human had gone to bed. 😂
The "new" Blippi (that we call Uncanny Blippi) somehow manages to be worse.
we refer to him in our house as bloppy
T-Pain has a great voice but chooses not to use it.
His cover of War Pigs by Black Sabbath was fucking siiiiiiiiiick
Ozzy loves it too. Jaw dropping good
I just googled, that’s so sick Ozzys so cool haha
He should do a rock album, he has a good voice for it.
That’s when I learned T-Pain could really sing. That was amazing.
If you haven't seen it: https://youtu.be/YhjIs2Htzdc?feature=shared
I enjoyed his Tiny Desk Concert.
"Got the autotune in my pocket" always trips me out. Dude can sing.
Yes. His tiny desk concert was sooo good. Made me a bigger fan.
He's using it more now! I just watched his on top of the covers show on youtube and it's phenomenal. He's a great performer and seems like a really good person.
Reminds me a bit of Lady Gaga. Amazing voice, but she basically watered it down and covered it up for her first album.
I could be wrong, but I don't think she watered her voice down. I think IIRC in her early years she didn't have much/any voice training. When she was tagged to sing for Julie Andrews, she took it very seriously and got voice lessons, and came out with that amazing performance that shocked the hell out of all of us. Her voice previous was very good, but thanks to her hard work it's now an absolute powerhouse. I'm sure somebody will correct me if I have this all wrong.
She did do an amazing job in that performance, but I thought she'd gone to a performing Arts high school and been trained from a young age.
I find this especially pleasing since finding out that Usher once told him he ‘kind of ruined R&B music’ because of his use of autotune, which plunged him into a deep depression for years. Fuck Usher.
>Fuck Usher *Diddy has entered the chat*
Drake
Drake is an actor playing a rapper in real life.
Money for fun
Am i the only person that doesnt like the singer of dance monkey? I am? Ok
It’s like she’s singing in baby-talk
I LITERALLY CANNOT STAND THAT SONG Like omg the voice feels as if I’m getting a lobotomy
I have never heard anybody say that they like that song ever
my son loves it (he's also under 10), I tolerate it, my husband despises it and won't let us play it around him, lol.
Your husband is correct and is trying to save you
We heard her live as the opening act for Pink. She actually has an amazing voice. So strong and really good.
I have to phrase this carefully, but Taylor Swift’s vocal precision has improved a whole lot. You can’t say she used to suck ass at singing or they’ll come running out of the depths like that scene from Lord of the Rings in Moria.
I never thought I would see Taylor Swift and Lord Of The Rings in the same comment lol.
It sounds to me like you have never been blessed by hearing [Gollum covering Taylor Swift](https://youtu.be/j2KI0COH9PY?feature=shared) then.
swiftie since 2008 and her live performances used to be so terrible I never watched them until like 2018, she got a looot better and really worked at it
Not a swiftie, but I'd like to point out that majority of her fanbase rave her for her stage presence and talent in songwriting, not specifically for being an extremely good vocalist
Her voice is still mediocre. Disclaimer for those who will come running from the depths: mediocre doesn’t mean bad.
Sorry, but to quote Liam Neeson, they will find you and they WILL kill you.
Tom Delonge cant sing but he will always have a special place in my heart.
"WHARE ARRR YEEUUUU"
I CANNOT SLEEP TONOIIIIIIITE
I had the good fortune to see 2 of their shows in NYC standing next to stage (shameless plug my kid opened for them) but that moment, when 20000 middle aged kids standing in anticipation to sing in unison... Wherrrrre are yoooouuu? One of the coolest moments I've ever seen at a rock show, and I've seen hundreds
I randomly sing this to my kid and wife alllll theeee timeeeee. They probably hate me
I played this song for my 13 year old and she called me emo. 😭
His unique voice imo seperates blink from a lot of other pop punk bands at the time.
I don’t believe you necessarily have to have a good voice to be a ‘good’ singer. People are also drawn in by uniqueness, which is what Tom has going for him, you hear it and instantly know exactly who it is.
Unique voice for sure. Not classically “good” but love it and no mistaking him!
I've always preferred Hoppus' voice 10000% more. Despite that, I love me some Blink.
Possibly one of the most iconic and recognizable voices to ever exist
I actually really like Tom's voice because it's unique, but yeah he's not the best singer lol
selena gomez literally has never been able to sing on tune and her control sucks
Selena Gómez + The Scene >>>>>>>> Selena Gómez
Selena Gomez. Sorry disney kids!
When she sings it’s more breathing/gasping than singing.

He used to have a really captivating and unique voice. Hence Maroon 5s success. Now he has lost his way…and his talent got lost with him.
His voice gets higher and higher with each successive release. Within 5 years, he's gonna release an album that's entirely in whistle register.
At this rate only dogs will be able to hear him sing!
Songs About Jane was an amazing album though
“Sunday Morning” and “She Will Be Loved” perfectly matched my life/relationships at the time they came on the radio
Is that a recent thing? I saw them at an event in ~2015 and it was OK
Fergie
That vine from back in the day of her trying to sing doing cartwheels and shit is funny as hell
“ wOooOoo” “WOooOoOo” 😂😂😂😂 classic 😂😂😂
[YOU'RE IN THE JUNGLE BABY](https://youtu.be/Vguglo8px3Y?feature=shared)!
Her rendition of the American national anthem is the only one that matters.
I watched that one live. Oh man. All our jaws dropped because we always knew she was bad... but not that awful. And then we started laughing at all the NBA players who were fighting to keep straight faces.
That video of all the NBA players trying not to lose it during that is absolutely hilarious
Adam Levine.
Why does Miley Cyrus have the speaking voice of a 60 year old Vegas Waffle House waitress?
Because she comes from a long line of Waffle House waitresses. Pretty sure her DNA is scattered, topped, and covered.
Had vocal cord nodules removed.
I wanted to say Miley Cyrus but wanted to go through the comments first to see if anyone mentioned her. I thought I was the only one who hears this! She can sing very well and she does nothing wrong as a person but I just can't stand her voice. It sounds like a smoker voice and a speech impediment together.
Everyone saying shes gone thru some stuff but her nasally singing has *always* bugged me.
Billy Corgan. The Bob Dylan of grunge. Dave Mustaine. The Bob Dylan of thrash. Bob Dylan. The Bob Dylan of Bob Dylan.
The Three Vocalists of the Dylacolypse
Madonna. But no one ever agrees with me LOL
I've always considered her to be an entertainer, not a singer.
To be fair, so does she. She’s said in multiple interviews that she knows she’s not a great singer but that’s not what she’s going for.
John prine. His voice is still so beautiful regardless of what people say
Lin-Manuel Miranda 🫣 I’m sorry. I love Hamilton. But it’s true.
His voice isn't terrible....but he's so out of his league in the rest of the cast.
Yeah that was my issue when watching it - he’s not great at acting or singing, and certainly not as the lead character! Edit: changed good to great.
Haha I always thought the cast album would've been so much better if the alternate Hamilton sang in it 😅 And he's always singing, too. Let the singers sing, just use your genius for writing the music and lyrics and book of the play. 🎶 And that would be enough...🎶

Paula Abdul.
Straight up
What a banger though
The music video for “Cold-Hearted” almost brought me into puberty ten years early 😂
Pete Doherty
Camila Cabello. I’m shocked that her solo career has done so well. She was the worst singer in Fifth Harmony.
Her singing voice sounds like baby talk to me.
Selena Gomez cannot sing
