The internet being available on your phone. Things were much better when you could only use the internet at home and when you left your house the internet didn’t come with you

hgghgfhvf

Terminally online took on a whole new level. Before it was literally someone at home sitting on the computer all day, a small subset of the population. Now it can be anyone anywhere at all waking hours.

Accomplished_Pea7029

I guess you mean social media? I wouldn't want to go back to a time without google maps for example. I know people can manage to navigate without it, but it's just extremely useful if you're in an unknown area. Saves a lot of time and I don't have to risk talking with strangers too much.

So-What_Idontcare

I would have no problem going back to a time before Google Maps. It wasn’t that hard..

0beronAnalytics

Right? It’s like the same people who are slaves to GPS are the same ones who are slaves to their social media accounts. They can only follow and never actually lead or pioneer in any aspect of their own lives. True consumption zombies.

So-What_Idontcare

Exactly. You learned to trust your judgement and be patient.

Social Media.

aluminium_is_cool

I think at one point Facebook was great. It was the ultimate social network. You could upload photos. Videos, share links, chat, make events and invite friends. Nothing was missing. Nothing at all. Then came instagram and somehow many people left FB and they started making awful decisions and it went downhill from there.

tendercloves

Came here to say this.

gregster462

Social media, especially regarding teenagers. Youth already have enough on their plates as it is. Formidable years of the developing mind. Like with anything, too much of a good thing can be bad. The stories I hear from my child about highschool drama. I seriously wonder if there's any correlation between that and the education rates in America. Ultimately it's up to the parents (and their own damn business) on how they choose to regulate smart phones with their kids. I love social media, and even then... sometimes it can be very toxic. A younger and more impressionable mind that's still navigating through life and figuring out where they stand in the world is is easily susceptible to influence. Both good and bad. And again, it's ultimately up to the parents on how they choose to regulate consumption and raise awareness on healthy usage.

Greed. We as a species cause each other so much misery and deprivation, we're destroying the only planet we have, if shit isn't on fire it's flooding, the price of everything is going up non-stop because we've convinced people of this fever dream of endless growth that just isn't possible, people even in the most privileged countries are suffering, but we'll still turn around and say it's the only viable way to run the world. I really, really don't think humanity is going to survive the long haul, and that's probably a good thing. We're stupid and greedy and broken. Something needs to replace us.

I'm just saying that oil like most things have their upside and downside, but I can't fathom anyone saying that Oil is bad per se. Without oil we would all be stuck in the medieval time, taking horses to get to the next village and working in agriculture. But it seems that most people today spearheaded by bobbleheads the Swedish girl really think our future is to be medieval.

Leninism. The first wave of major socialist revolutions were authoritarian nightmares and long term failures. Which is a shame because democratic socialism, small scale anarchist experiments, and social democracies are significantly more effective at providing freedom and quality of life than capitalism. But now socialism just means dictatorship in everyone’s mind which fucking sucks. Fuck Lenin.

aluminium_is_cool

I tend to disagree on this, and it's controversial. If it weren't for the nuclear weapons, usa and ussr would have dived into a never ending war with tens or hundreds of millions of dead. India and Pakistan might very well have started a war already over kashmir, which would also have a gigantic death toll Of course that's different than defending the bombing of Japan, which was probably the greatest war crime ever
