Many industrial democracies have political processes that hold officials more accountable to the public.
My country is supposed to but the processes have become far too corrupted to function.
>People get offended if you say, “He’s a man.” or if you refer to a hypothetical person as a “he” or “she” instead of a “they.”
No, they don't. This problem exists only in your imagination.
This is a problem.
People don't seem to understand that it's ok to be offended.
I know I say things that are offensive to some. I do not intend to offend, but, culturally, racially, religiously, sexually, socially, politically.... The chances are I will say something that is offensive to someone.
What a lot of people fail to realize is that they also do this, but shield themselves by calling you out for your thoughts.
Just because someone is offended, doesn't mean that your thought is wrong, it's just wrong for them.
In no particular order: the weather. The government and the fact there are no longer decent alternatives, just slightly different versions of the same. The corruption in the police force meaning trust in them is at an all time low (especially with women). The corruption in our water companies, meaning literal shit is being dumped into our waterways because there ARE regulations, but they ARENT regulated. The cost of childcare making it almost pointless for some Mums to return to work. The fact that food banks are considered norm. How expensive food is, even the essentials. The cost of fuel. The cost of putting the heating on. Oh and Brexit, because that’s the main thing that stops me from leaving.
It's been like that since WW2. An absolutely astonishing amount of bungling up on literally everything that killed the Britain's lead in science, tech and industries.
That having a crippling fear of driving completely screws me over if I don't live in a gigantic city center because most of American public transit is shit.
Places like Boise Idaho don't seem to think poor people who work on Sunday or past 7 PM exist.
Government electricity only comes for 2 hours a day. And that's only counting the rare days it comes
Edit: it's Lebanon. Didn't know that not having electricity was so common
Not just the football hooligans, but Brits general behaviour when abroad. They should all be forced to take those pills which cause you to instantly vomit if you drink any alcohol.
US: the idea that value as a person is equivalent to income, and that the amount of income you have is 100% equivalent to the amount of effort you put into your work.
Both of these are giant lies which drive so much of the pain and sociopathy of our society.
UK driving is better than US East coast driving, but worse than out West (four corners area) driving. That's my assesment after driving for at least a few years in each place.
In the United States, I myself included; we live paycheck to paycheck. Everything is so expensive, and the money you get by working isn’t much to benefit you either.
I hate that the education level keeps dropping. We just don’t value education the way we should. (US) The number of people who believe every little conspiracy bs is astounding. Our educators are under paid and over worked. Crazy
Hey friend, I might not agree with you politically, but I'm not just assuming you're a MAGAT.
As it is, I'm pretty centrist, and find that a lot of people are, but if all you do is read what the internet says, you'll never see that. It's the fringe on the internet every day that are the loudest.
Get out in the world, and you'll see that most people want the same in their lives. But what most people *dont* want is for their rights to be stripped away like what has been happening.
We're not all going to get what we want, but we have to work together, or none of us are going to get what we want.
I’m finding it too hard to wholeheartedly get behind either of the big tent parties so I’m sticking with following local politics. But yeah f that about America
The age of social media and echo chambers has polarized people so much that there is no longer such a thing as center-right or center-left. It’s like rooting for a sports team.
It’s like that John Cleese sketch where he tries to sell you radicalism so you could have enemies to blame. He tells both sides they can hate the centrists.
I’m slightly right leaning in my politics. But I’m a huge supporter of equal rights. Voting Republican still puts the people in office who overall don’t believe in equal rights across the board. If you vote Republican you’re saying there is something more important to you than everyone having the same rights regardless of race, gender, religion, etc. So even if you’re not a Trumper, if you vote Republican you’re still voting for backsliding our countries progress towards equality.
If you say you’re a conservative I would have a lot more respect for you than a Republican.
Because conservatism is a set of legitimate political principles. However, the Republican party in my view has been fundamentally corrupted by Donald Trump. So I don’t give much nuance to people who still think they belong to such an organization.
Depends on where they go. In the country where I was born (no longer there), they fund the excessive lifestyles of the politicians and assure that all their family, friends, families of friends and their aunts have public jobs funded by the taxpayers and foreign loans.
Anti-intellectualism and people’s bullshit belief in the myth of the “loveable larikin” when we have a stupid amount of rules, regulations and government infringements on personal freedoms which people seem to love “please put the boot down harder big daddy government”
We have some of the most intelligent, selfless, awesome people in the world (my opinion). Great leaders all over the place. Yet they are unable to ascend to positions in government where we need them most.
Canadians think they're better than Americans. I'm a citizen of both countries. The only thing Canada is better at is being more stuck up than Americans.
Also the Fren*gunshots*coups de feu*
our history and how other countries saw us because of it , i live in France and i think everyone here knows about Vichy france . Yeah.. not our most flattering times. the thing is that now some countries (mostly US) think we are bad at war. we are not as strong as before i can admit , but thinking we always surrender because of ONE historical event is as stupid as saying America is weak because they lose a war 100 years ago (and i know they didn't lost a lot of wars but it's an example since i guess a vast majority of this subreedit are American). i know this can be a little bit controversial but you gotta understand that it is not fun when someone says that i'm a coward because my country lost something 80 years ago
The fact that we have absolutely no wild nature and have allowed agriculture to take over more than 65% of our entire area. We have become the least biodiverse country in Europe.
I hate that the infrastructure is designed so that you need a car to do anything; go to work, buy groceries, go to a restaurant, visit a friend. Nothing is within a fair walking distance and public transportation isn't widespread or developed enough to be attractive.
Oligopolies/Galen Weston and the fact that for a country with so much natural resources our main driver of GDP is real estate...
Check out r/loblawsisoutofcontrol
US: infrastructure built around cars and not enough walkable cities, the blatant and systemic racism, stroads, $20 cocktails, THE DAMN EZPASS SYSTEM, this awful two party system, white supremacy in all of its forms, the abysmal quality of food, this variant of capitalism that forces corporations to do morally dubious things for the bottom line/shareholders (fuck you Jack Welch I hope you’re burning)
That we have the means to eradicate hunger, poverty, homelessness- provide every citizen with an education, healthcare, public transit- and just… don’t.
We went to the moon. We created the internet and an interstate highway system and the strongest economy in history. We founded the world’s greatest institutions of education, science, and culture. We sit on virtually limitless natural resources, majestic wildernesses, and navigable waterways. We did the impossible just to prove we could. And then at some point we decided that it was too hard, or cost too much, or that China could just do it for us- or worse, that we might accidentally spend money on something that benefits someone we think doesn’t deserve it.
We are a country that has given up and is now turning on itself as it collapses under the weight of apathy, ignorance, and incuriouness.
Loving America is like loving a junkie. It’s not just the self destructive behavior and living in filth- it’s that you can’t help remember the amazing and brilliant person they are underneath- and that just makes it worse.
The way immigrants were let in way too easy without proper backgrond checks etc. now we have lots of crime because of wanting to be inclusive, overly well wishing and naive.
I literally have a few pages document I regularly update with the various reasons why I can't stand Italy anymore and I'll leave as soon as I'll get my degree
The government being all round corrupt and profiting over the explotation of the land and the people (who can barely afford the high rent, groceries and shipping prices) all while they sell out to foreigners and shove their pockets own full of people’s money.
And the mosquitoes,🦟
How consumerist and materialistic the majority of people are. Nothing is ever enough, people always think they need more shit that they don't really need.
The fact that it's basically five corporations in a trench coat and actual human beings don't matter. Corporate welfare is the focus rather than social supports for HUMAN BEINGS... and the winters are hell.
... oh and the fact that Galen Weston still breathes.
My country has been occupied for many centuries by a lot of empires and states, and the last was the creation of a new state because it has one of the most strategic places on the planet that can change the middle east map, so the people who helped the last state to be created they serve their own personal interests.
Also, as long as I see the natural and historical landmarks, it gives me a bad feeling that why they occupied my land because our land is heaven.
One day, we will be free
The political system and the opportunistic sociopathic people it attracts and fails to hold accountable.
So...most countries?
Many industrial democracies have political processes that hold officials more accountable to the public. My country is supposed to but the processes have become far too corrupted to function.

Yes, you are spot on.
No one gets offended by those things. You’re making a deal out of something that isn’t an issue, that’s the issue.
>People get offended if you say, “He’s a man.” or if you refer to a hypothetical person as a “he” or “she” instead of a “they.” No, they don't. This problem exists only in your imagination.

The rising cost of living.
You from Australia as well?
Canada. Similar issues.
Shitty politics
isn't that every country?
Pretty much every single countries, except for Scandinavian countries?
Healthcare is a privilege, not a right.
Police brutality is a serious issue.
Consumer protection laws are weak.
There’s not enough investment in renewable energy.
The government
US?
Nowadays it applies to a lot of places
France, but I hate the US government too, whoever the president is (well not exactly, I liked Obama)
In no particular order: the weather. The government and the fact there are no longer decent alternatives, just slightly different versions of the same. I feel like there's so much potential in the UK, but our governments are worthless, almost determined to keep the country down.
It's been like that since WW2. An absolutely astonishing amount of bungling up on literally everything that killed the Britain's lead in science, tech and industries.
Australia is the same
Oh hello Britain.
People are so weak and narrowminded. They seem to believe everything they've been told without ever really thinking about it themselves.

Feel like this could apply to a place like UAE too where it all appears to be about attaining wealth and building dumb skyscrapers
That having a crippling fear of driving completely screws me over if I don't live in a gigantic city center because most of American public transit is shit. Places like Boise Idaho don't seem to think poor people who work on Sunday or past 7 PM exist.

Zimbabwe?
Our obsession with Nigel Farage.
As a fellow brit, I would like to distance myself from that man as well.
I was going to say football hooligans, but I’d say the Farage personality cult, ahem, Trumps everything at the moment.
Not just the football hooligans, but Brits general behaviour when abroad. They should all be forced to take those pills which cause you to instantly vomit if you drink any alcohol.
The price of everything. 🇨🇦

the obession of power and money , and civil war , Myanmar
The horrible healthcare system that is inaccessible to so many people because of cost.
The political system. It functions like a reality show and a popularity contest, where the most popular doesn't even win
I hate how people drive in the US. It does vary State to State, but I visited England and everyone felt way more considerate on the road.
I live in the KS, drove through Atlanta Georgia for the first time in my life last fall, worst drivers I’ve ever witnessed!
UK driving is better than US East coast driving, but worse than out West (four corners area) driving. That's my assesment after driving for at least a few years in each place.

I firmly believe the government has intentionally gutted public education to keep the public stupid and easy to manipulate.

Our mostly unfettered personal freedom means people have the freedom to believe the stupidest shit.
You get pushed to the left or right politically, there's no middle ground anymore. Also when I say Im Republican people assume Trumper.

Always getting confused with Switzerland?
High cost of living, illegal immigration, the weather?
The people suck.
What's the country?
The surplus of people who want to dictate how I live my life without having the slightest clue what it's like to be me.
Taxes
Depends on where they go. In the country where I was born (no longer there), they fund the excessive lifestyles of the politicians and assure that all their family, friends, families of friends and their aunts have public jobs funded by the taxpayers and foreign loans.
The corruption in the government
Working class people siding with the government against the private citizen.
Anti-intellectualism and people’s bullshit belief in the myth of the “loveable larikin” when we have a stupid amount of rules, regulations and government infringements on personal freedoms which people seem to love “please put the boot down harder big daddy government”

The increase of fascism.
UK, USA, Germany, France, most of Europe?
UK here, but it's getting prevalent in all of those places, plus their disgusting exploitation of poorer countries.
We have some of the most intelligent, selfless, awesome people in the world (my opinion). Great leaders all over the place. Yet they are unable to ascend to positions in government where we need them most.
