I am a professional artist and sell art regularly both NSFW and porn. Porn makes a shit ton more money compared to the SFW stuff unless you work for a company or have stupid good connections or got lucky. But its admittedly good to know both. Both just don't sell as well as youd think.

I'm not saying that porn doesn't make a ton of money but as someone who enjoys porn artists I see all too often how they essentially corner themselves into one niche fetish or idea and then when they try to branch out they fail because their audience from the beginning is a porn artist and that's all they ever care about from them making it very difficult to then swap over to other types of art It's like imagine if you provided a service that gave everyone a free Apple everyday and then suddenly you decide to give out oranges instead inevitably a fair amount of the people who are used to the apples are going to be pissed off about the oranges but if you gave both from the beginning people would be much more accepting of both from the beginning And I don't think I need to explain why a neon green wolf boy with a giant cock or whatever probably isn't the best thing to put in your art portfolio if you're ever trying to show off or pursue a career There's also the difficult issue that a lot of porn artists become complacent because a lot of times their popularity is less to do with their quality and more to do with them being willing to draw certain niche fetishes or situations so many of them kind of stagnate on quality never really practicing or improving because they have surrounded themselves with people who are so desperate for any sort of media in there niche that they won't ever criticize them or give them genuine feedback. Essentially showering them with praise almost treating them with a god-like view
