I make a matermelon feta pizza that my brother goes crazy for. The bottom of the pizza when I cook it on the grill is pesto, then once it comes out I layer on arugula, a watermelon feta salad with some more fresh basil and olive oil and top it some with some smokey spicy roasted chickpeas. 10/10 for summer
I had a watermelon tomato salad with feta at a restaurant that was sublime! They infused the watermelon with a light honey ginger. Add just a little ripped basil leaves... Mm!
I call it my drunk food cause I only eat it when I’ve been drinking.
But dill pickles dipped in soy sauce. Don’t hate it till you try it. I know it’s weird but I like it.
I like anchovies and bleu cheese. Salty snacks are great!
BTW, I discovered (powdered) cayenne pepper and soy sauce in Korea. It's a game changer for mandu, spring rolls, veggies, etc.
Sandwiches with chips in the middle. Depending on the sandwich, potato chips, fritos or even doritos would do. Just choose your combination carefully and enjoy the heck outta it!
* edit: not my recipes but my older brother taught me as well as he could! ;)
I used to put sour cream and onion chips on my cheeseburgers at my grandparents house. Some reason they went amazingly with my grandmothers homemade pickles.
Jimmy John's Italian with salt and vinegar chips or jalapeño chips.
Unasked for LPT: ask for no sauce, and then at home use good Italian dressing or that "Garlic Expressions" dressing. Chef's kiss!
You've just discovered the crisp butty, a delicacy enjoyed by the English generations.
Incidentally the chip butty in another thing, where chippy chips are stuck on a barm cake, this is also good shit
Ok. Now hear me out. And I swear this is amazingly good: a BLT with peanut butter. Not a lot, just a thin spread to sort of glue the bacon to the bread.
I think walkers aren’t as good anymore since they changed the oil they’re cooked in. Golden Wonder are just as good as ever though and if you’re looking for a top class crisp I recommend spring onion flavour
Whole wheat bread, pimento cheese spread, salami and/or pepperoni, and a layer of either sour cream and onion or sour cream and cheddar flavor chips. Super tasty with a hella satisfying crunch.
My partner hates this, and I’m sure a ton of people do this, but cottage cheese with honey. Everyone in my family thinks it’s strange, though.
It’s the only way I’ll eat it now, so so good.
So here's my random recipe.
Ingredients:
Sourdough bread,
Green apples,
Bacon,
Havarti cheese,
Apple smoked Gouda cheese,
Apple butter,
Mayo (or butter).
I like using mayo for grilled cheese instead of butter, less greasy and crisps up better. Apple butter inside each bread slice, followed by one of the cheeses, apple slices and bacon.
For some reason the havarti on one side and the Gouda on the other is like some perfect combo and not overbearing. I put the Havarti on the apple sliced side and the Gouda over the bacon; pairs better.
There used to be a place 'round here that used to make a hot cocoa with fresh-ground, smoked cinnamon, and a dash of chili powder. So damn good. They made a similar one with fresh-squeezed(?) granny smith apple juice...yum.
I sometimes wind up with an iron deficiency (coincidentally after extended periods of heavy drinking, but I digress) so I had to figure out some ways to cram as much iron into a meal as possible and make it edible. This was surprisingly tasty. And it’s also great “drunk at 3am” food.
Edit: if you’re feeling ambitious, you can caramelize some onions, sauté the spinach (actually you can cram a lot more spinach in this way) and mix them together with a bit of Worcestershire sauce before adding them to the sandwich.
Sweet mustard pickles are huge in my country, it's basically pickled cauliflower and some other stuff like onions etc with some sort of mustard seeds in it.
Awesome with ham and cheese in a sandwich.
Pan-fried liversausage was my sister's go-to snack when we were kids. Please don't tell her I said so, but it really was pretty tasty on soft white bread.
There's a Finnish dish traditionally served at Christmas dinner called rosolli. It's green apple, boiled potatoes, boiled carrots, raw onion, jarred beets, pickles, and sometimes pickled herring, all cut up into small cubes and mixed up together. Sounds absolutely disgusting, but actually tastes pretty good, especially with Christmas ham!
Sour cream in one bowl, brown sugar in another. Take the strawberry, dip it in the sour cream, roll it in the sugar and eat. You might want to adjust the ratio to your taste, but that's where to start.
Both of these make sense to me.
Especially the salmon and Brown sugar.
If you make your own Teriyaki like sauce it's mostly brown sugar and Soy sauce. Most online Asian sauces, (not sure if these are just westernized) have brown sugar in them.
Lots of people know that Peanut Butter on a hamburger is really tasty. But, people seem more reluctant to believe that peanut butter on a hot dog is also good. Give it a try, you might be surprised.
Also fantastic with brie subbed for the cheddar, especially if you bake it in the oven for a bit. For an even bigger upgrade, add a bit of cranberry sauce 😋
Ok hear me out: banana with peanut butter and… mayonnaise. I know, I know, but my mom used to make me this snack and honestly the mayo adds a nice tang somehow. LOL sorry if you just puked in your mouth at the sound of this haha
I used to be friends with a woman on Xbox live and one night she said she was gonna make her favorite sandwitch peanut butter and fried bologna. I thought it sounded disgusting but she said to trust her and try it. I did try it and you know the crazy thing? It actually don't taste bad at all.
Tomatto with toum(a garlic sauce that is common in arabic countries) and paprika.
I saw it once and i thought that it is gross until a person told me to give it a try and it taste a lot better that it seems.
Watermelon or strawberries with feta cheese
Watermelon with feta cheese, red onion, flatleaf parsley, salt, pepper and a drizzle of balsamic vinegar+ olive oil. HEAVEN!
I'd never just put salt on watermelon before. Oh my god it's a taste explosion. Will try the rest of yours today!
Watermelon, cucumber, feta, fresh mint, lime juice, olive oil = fantastic summer salad
I had a watermelon tomato salad with feta at a restaurant that was sublime! They infused the watermelon with a light honey ginger. Add just a little ripped basil leaves... Mm!
We eat watermelon with cheese and bread in certain parts of Romania. People call us crazy but it's really good
It's also common in the middle east, watermelon with white (usually salty) cheese
Here in Cyprus we really enjoy Watermelons with halloumi, a local hard cheese that's similar to feta. It's really delicious
I call it my drunk food cause I only eat it when I’ve been drinking. But dill pickles dipped in soy sauce. Don’t hate it till you try it. I know it’s weird but I like it.
Sounds interesting. I don't drink, but I'll try this combination. :)
As a warning it’ll be salty and it’s not for everyone, but my best friend and I are obsessed with it 😅
I like anchovies and bleu cheese. Salty snacks are great! BTW, I discovered (powdered) cayenne pepper and soy sauce in Korea. It's a game changer for mandu, spring rolls, veggies, etc.
Spicy? I love spicy food (even though my stomach tells me the opposite) I’m so going to try that
Sandwiches with chips in the middle.
Aunt Vickie’s jalapeño chips are amazing for this.
Tayto sandwiches are pretty normal in Ireland
Very common in the uk
Jimmy John's Italian with salt and vinegar chips or jalapeño chips. Unasked for LPT: ask for no sauce, and then at home use good Italian dressing or that "Garlic Expressions" dressing. Chef's kiss!
All about the Turkey tom with onions, cheese and Dijon + jalapeno chips. Top tier sandwich.
Jimmy johns number sixteen no mayo with hot peppers then I put the jalapeño chips on it
Or in Ireland just a crisp/chips sandwich - just some bread, good butter and your chips.
You've just discovered the crisp butty, a delicacy enjoyed by the English generations. Incidentally the chip butty in another thing, where chippy chips are stuck on a barm cake, this is also good shit
British lingo never cease to amaze me.
Shit, you're right and I haven't done this since I was a kid. Been missing out.
Cool Ranch or Spicy Nacho Doritos in the middle of a sandwich is unbeatable.
I love chips especially on a PB&J on white bread. Either Ruffles or Doritos, and great with store brands as well
Ok. Now hear me out. And I swear this is amazingly good: a BLT with peanut butter. Not a lot, just a thin spread to sort of glue the bacon to the bread.
I have been doing that since I was 7, I have never actually done it on a big sub though, weird.
Crisp sandwiches are a classic lunchtime treat in the UK!
Am English so wasn't sure if you meant 'fries' or 'potato chips' but then also remembered I am English & both are absolute delicacies here.
My favourite is cheese and onion walkers
I think walkers aren’t as good anymore since they changed the oil they’re cooked in. Golden Wonder are just as good as ever though and if you’re looking for a top class crisp I recommend spring onion flavour
I love salt and vinegar chips in my subs.
Whole wheat bread, pimento cheese spread, salami and/or pepperoni, and a layer of either sour cream and onion or sour cream and cheddar flavor chips. Super tasty with a hella satisfying crunch.
Mango and Prosciutto!
Cantaloupe and prosciutto as well 🤌🤌
Was served this regularly at restaurants in Italy. So good.
With some baked brie on the side. Hallelujah!
No, this pairing begs for burrata.
Try melon and prosciutto. I've seen Italians do it, and it tastes pretty good.
Mango and chilly flakes
My partner hates this, and I’m sure a ton of people do this, but cottage cheese with honey. Everyone in my family thinks it’s strange, though. It’s the only way I’ll eat it now, so so good.
Also cottage cheese and jam! Another good combination 🙌😍
Same with cream cheese and jam! So good on a bagel
When I was a kid in the 70s, we ate cottage cheese two ways: with seasoned salt, or with pancake syrup.
Put the hash brown on the McMuffin dammit.
I’m just imagining the conversation that this came from and it made me laugh very hard, thank you.
YES! Good on McGriddles too.
BBQ sauce with Mac and Cheese
Three cheese homemade mac n cheese plus pulled pork with bbq is awesome
What cheeses do you use?
Three of them
3 cheeses? In _this_ economy??
I have 3 kids and no cheese. Why can’t I have no kids and 3 cheese.
BBQ chips and cottage cheese I don't know why but is so fucking good
Grilled cheese with bacon and apple slices.
So here's my random recipe. Ingredients: Sourdough bread, Green apples, Bacon, Havarti cheese, Apple smoked Gouda cheese, Apple butter, Mayo (or butter). I like using mayo for grilled cheese instead of butter, less greasy and crisps up better. Apple butter inside each bread slice, followed by one of the cheeses, apple slices and bacon.
The Havarti makes this. I love it.
For some reason the havarti on one side and the Gouda on the other is like some perfect combo and not overbearing. I put the Havarti on the apple sliced side and the Gouda over the bacon; pairs better.
Barnes and Noble used to have a sandwich that used apple chutney instead of apple slices.
The… book store?
A fun surprise if you find the right book. Bonus sandwich in the pages
Yup! They had cafes that serves Starbucks coffee, but we're really like "Barnes and Noble Cafes."

Mozzarella sticks with cocktail sauce.
Was this learned by accident because cocktail and marinara look pretty similar? Either way I can see it being a solid combo.
I'm gonna have to try that. I loves me some cocktail sauce

"Apple pie without cheese is like a kiss without a squeeze." - my grandma
I was raised to have a chunk of cheddar to bite into while eating my apple pie.
If you've got a really strong 'fighting' cheddar cheese, try it with some heavy fruit cake, amazing
Hot chocolate with chilli powder, great for soar throats
What about terrestrial throats?
Every time I see a typo or grammatical error in a high level post I expect some comment like yours and am never disappointed.
Pedants unite!
Ah yes, the classic Mexican hot chocolate. So good.
There used to be a place 'round here that used to make a hot cocoa with fresh-ground, smoked cinnamon, and a dash of chili powder. So damn good. They made a similar one with fresh-squeezed(?) granny smith apple juice...yum.
This burger joint by me sells wings with “Swiss Miss” and Cajun as the seasoning. They’re delicious
Idk what it's called, liverwurst? Liversausage? With pickles. On bread. Try it, it's so good
Take some braunschweiger, fry the shit out of it, slap it on rye with horseradish, dill pickles, pepper Jack cheese and spinach.
And now here I am at 3am, hungry as fuck for this. This sounds amazing
I sometimes wind up with an iron deficiency (coincidentally after extended periods of heavy drinking, but I digress) so I had to figure out some ways to cram as much iron into a meal as possible and make it edible. Pickles as in like sliced dilled pickles? Or Sweet Mustard Pickles?
I think sliced dilled pickles. I didn't even know sweet mustard pickels existed
Sweet mustard pickles are huge in my country, it's basically pickled cauliflower and some other stuff like onions etc with some sort of mustard seeds in it. Awesome with ham and cheese in a sandwich.
Sounds like what's called in the southern U.S. "bread and butter" pickles.
Yeah sometimes it's called sandwich pickles here so it must be the same
Yes... I was trying to think of that, when I found your answered.😃 My grandmother put up some wonderful Bread n Butter pickles.
Pan-fried liversausage was my sister's go-to snack when we were kids. Please don't tell her I said so, but it really was pretty tasty on soft white bread.

Strawberries, sour cream, brown sugar
Ok, gonna need details or some indication of ratios here. Is this just mixed in a bowl or set into a pie?
Sour cream in one bowl, brown sugar in another. Take the strawberry, dip it in the sour cream, roll it in the sugar and eat. You might want to adjust the ratio to your taste, but that's where to start.
Pickle wrapped in turkey cold cut and craft single. A cracked snack

Both of these make sense to me. Especially the salmon and Brown sugar. If you make your own Teriyaki like sauce it's mostly brown sugar and Soy sauce. Most online Asian sauces, (not sure if these are just westernized) have brown sugar in them.

Sounds like a southern thing. I’ve had banana and peanut butter OR Mayo as a sandwich, but not together.
Honestly I tried a mayo and PB sandwich and… it was honestly like slightly greasier, saltier PB. So I can see how this would work!
Chopped up hot dogs in scrambled eggs Also, grilled peanut butter sandwich
