If they're having a funeral, they're playing Weird Al's Trapped in the Drive-Thru.

Kch1986

I'll have to play "Albuquerque"

lordcameltoe

I want to hire a lookalike of myself who will pop out of a coffin and perform the Thriller choreography

Take It With Me When I Go-Tom Waits

bajesus

My choice is a different Tom Waits song - Green Grass *edit After seeing this thread it made me turn on my Tom Waits playlist and I remembered another good one. San Diego Serenade would be a great funeral song. Not about death, but about looking back and appreciating what you had that is now gone.

Recently rediscovered Pink Floyd Their music is absolutely next level

mama-no-fun

Always and forever. David Gilmore guitar solos.

overcomebyfumes

I listened to The Wall over and over in High School, and eventually grew away from Roger Water's nihilism and overwrought emotional dramas and stopped listening to it. Recently listened it it again on a whim 30 years later, and holy shit. I should've appreciated Gilmore's guitar work more. He was amazing. I'm listening to that album again, but I'm listening to different things than I listened to 30 years ago, if that makes any sense.

Herbalist454

elegantlywasted2529

I’ve actually got a funeral playlist on my phone in case I hit the deck earlier than expected 😂😂 Just a quick edit because I didn’t expect my morbid need to control my funeral would blow up so much😂 I’m not tech savvy in any which way so I can’t upload the link to the comments.. but I have written the songs in the comments somewhere… they are the only songs on the playlist, there isn’t anymore to add. Yes, I’m 43, yes, I’m British. Yes, I’m an Inxs fan, but there’s no Inxs songs on the agenda. No, I’m not from up north!! Bittersweet symphony is timeless!! I don’t go much on the slow stuff by oasis, but that one hits different! No, I’m not crazy, I like to plan ahead! I don’t drink alcohol at all, and I have a great relationship with my mother 😂 hit the deck IS a metaphor for dying in my world 😂

jiff_extra_crunchy

My childhood best friend passed away suddenly in a car wreck this past November at 27. She also had a funeral playlist saved on her phone and her family used it! She was such a jokester and hilarious person. It gave us all a big laugh to find out she had already picked out her songs. It was a great way to honor her wishes and such a beautiful thing to have her put some humor in to a situation from beyond the grave. It really honored her memory in a way I won’t ever forget. Miss you, Anna!

Relevant-Ad2166

I'm sorry for your loss! But...I love that your friend took the time to do make her song list! I lost my brother soon after he turned 31 and I have always found comfort in the fact that he came to my house the night before he died to bring me some groceries because I had just gotten out of the hospital after having back surgery...and I was thinking he'd bring me some McD's or something...but the thought of him picking out groceries that were easy & quick to make so I wasn't on my feet cooking for too long! I was floored by his thoughtfulness and I laughed and told him he would've gotten a BigMac if the roles were reversed! As he was leaving......the last thing I said to him was "I love you!" So...the next day to find out he was dead made me feel cheated out of all the good times we planned on having and how he would be there for me when we eventually lost our parents and we would carry on family traditions together. Luckily...my family has always been open to discussing death and what our wishes are after we die...so that part made things a lot easier since I knew he wanted to be cremated. I wish more people would take the time to discuss these things because it's really beneficial for everyone! Tomorrow isn't promised....so make sure to always leave someone or end a conversation by telling that person anything that needs to be said. Don't hold back....if someone means something to you....tell them! You never know if that'd be the last conversation you have with them...so make it a good one! I love that the last things I told him was I love you....because it makes a huge difference when you no longer get that chance again to say how you feel! No regrets....just love! But....I wish my brother had left a song list!! I would have burned CD's for everyone and would have loved to have something like that from him! Your friend must-have been quite a character! I love that and I'm so glad I saw your post! I think I'll start complilling my list of songs TONIGHT!!!! Thanks for sharing!

inglepinks

For some reason I have decided to be the keeper of the funeral songs with my friends and family. So every time I hear them mention a song that they would want at their funeral I keep a note of it. Recently when I got Spotify I made a funeral songs play list with the songs that people wanted for their funeral. I don't listen to it, it just makes me feel better that I have that available. I now have these visions of people playing this at my funeral and them wondering why the hell I want classical music, orange blossom special from Johnny Cash, and sexy and I know it from LMFAO.

ShockingPyro

Going Out in Style - Dropkick Murphys

fuckthatville

Drop Kick Murphys also did a cover of amazing grace, clearly they want to be played at the most bumpin funerals.

saulfineman

I also like the idea of “Until the Next Time”

TechnologyOdd

My Grandpa had "Always Look at the Bright Side of Life" From Life of Brian at his funeral. I'd like something like that.

3xTheSchwarm

It's the #1 funeral song in England.

Aussiebiblophile

We had that for my dad too as the coffin was leaving. Made everyone laugh and smile which was a great send off.

Adler4290

Graham Chapman had it at his funeral in 1989, https://youtu.be/Bm2XPkqENaw?t=177 ... Where John Cleese made the greatest Eulogy for a comedian I have ever seen, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CkxCHybM6Ek

sonicblue217

That first zinger gets me every time "good riddance xxxxx". No idea how he kept a straight face

PomegranateOld7836

Because Cleese is a legend

ManateeeMan

Probably lots of people need another listen right now, or a first time if you're new to it https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SJUhlRoBL8M

ToastyXP

They [sang it at Graham Chapman's funeral too](https://youtu.be/Bm2XPkqENaw?t=154). Linked the video at the time where they sing it, but highly recommend watching from the start. John Cleese gave a great eulogy.

thrattatarsha

John Cleese knocked that one out of the park. Good god. You can tell without a doubt that these guys loved each other, and what better way to show it than to continue doing what they loved? Doing the things that made them? I can only hope my funeral is half as fun.

Gooses126

“Life’s a piece of shit, when you look at it”.

ThisWasAValidName

"Life's a laugh, and death's a joke it's true." Or, ~~as another man~~ Brennan Lee Mulligan once said: "Death isn't a punchline, but it is the perfect setup. *Death renders everything around it absurd.*" Edit: Never sure who watches Dimension 20/Critical Role, so I don't reference it out 'in the wild' much.

graveybrains

You'll see it's all a show Keep 'em laughin' as you go Just remember that the last laugh is on you

I get this. I was 15 when one of my dearest friends died by suicide. (I’m 50 now) when we left the funeral home to go to the cemetery and got in our cars this was the song playing on the radio. Back when that’s what we listened to. Still think of it to this day, and love that song.

orphan_blud

God that made me cry. What a beautiful tribute.

AndrewFurg

Do you realize by The Flaming lips I've said it since high school, and I mean it. The lyrics can be a little odd, but the theme of time being relative, that good days don't end, they simply enter your memory and exist permanently in the past - that is what I want people who miss me to hear.

Carpetation

I played this at my mother's funeral. It was my choice, as I had to plan her service alone, but she did like the song and I think she would have approved.

Bulky_Ad_3608

My 84 year old mother loves this song. I played it after my brother died about 15 years ago and she still comments on it every time I post it on Facebook. She obviously listened to the lyrics.

critical_mija

Such an amazing song

fuckin_french_toast

Let them know you realize that life moves fast It’s hard to make the good things last You realize the sun doesn’t go down It’s just an illusion caused by the world spinning round

CutAccording7289

I want the credits theme for Super Mario World (SNES) played as everyone walks out. It’s a chipper tune and I think would lift everyone up. It’s also fitting as that was the first real game I ever played at 5 years old and it has a special place in my heart. Link: https://youtu.be/b9IkpUYlOx8 Edit; first silver. Thanks everyone. I really do think it’s a fitting end to a quirky adventurous life (like the game) Edit 2: Wow! First gold! Thanks!

Stinklepinger

And when they lower you, play the underground theme...

Nah the pipe blooping noise.

My wife refuses to listen to this song. She’s even left a store that had it playing just because she doesn’t want to hear it. She says she loves the song, but because I insist that it be played at my funeral, she can’t bare to hear it. Edit: bear to bare

[deleted]

You had the correct spelling of “bear” to begin with. A mere bear can’t bear to hear of a bare hare making a wig of bear hair.

MindOfAnEnt

Haha well I’m an even bigger idiot than I thought. Lol

[deleted]

Haha I know it's lighthearted but being wrong seldom makes one an idiot. Life's a learning journey

wayweighdontellme

My first thought was Queen as well but "Don't Stop me Now". It was the walk out song for my first fight. Seems fitting to go out to it.

fg10037

okay that is genius trust me i still remember my great grandmother’s was well an icon to say the least. she loved emo music so she the black parade by my chemical romance played at hers. On top of that she didn’t want people crying over missing her but tears of laughter and asked to be roasted and have all the crazy and dumb stuff she did in her life and those stories be told. Like this woman would go to a gay bar constantly to play drag bingo with the drag queens. She was definitely not the normal grandma but she was awesome!

At my wife’s funeral I had some of her favorites playing in the funeral home. It came time for the priest to say a few things and a prayer but I let the music keep playing quietly in the back ground. As the priest talked Exciter by Judas Priest came on and seemed way louder than what was playing before it- my niece, nephew and I couldn’t stop laughing. My wife loved J.P. and hated organized religion (the priest was a concession for some of the older relatives). I like to think it was her cranking some metal one last time trying to drown out the religion and sadness.

SeanceMedia

When my grandfather died, it was a tradition to drive the hearse-led motorcade by the deceased's home. As we pulled into grandpop's neighborhood and rolled by his old place, "Highway to Hell" started on the radio. Not a good omen.

Miyagi326

So my uncle died in his early 50’s late last year, and my family flew out to Vegas for his funeral. The day of the funeral, we all got there and to be expected, the mood was pretty heavy. My cousin and I were standing next to each other as we walked into the room when a playlist started playing that was requested by my uncle. The first song that played?.. The Final Countdown. My cousin and I first looked at each other in disbelief, but then burst into laughter along with everyone else. He always knew how to lighten the mood, and made sure he would have the last laugh. I miss that guy.
