I’d assume I’m not easily roastable and be happy

Half of the 'roasts' are "Lul pedo" the other half is "Trying to sell only fans too hard" That's it. That's r/roastme

Mikijee

I mean, if I wasn't gonna buy it I'm DEFINITELY not buying it now fuckers. Smh.

FeatherWorld

Even when you pay for some streaming services, you still get commercials. It's insane. Then tiers of perks and commercials for the lower? I would rather pirate it.

FC2_Soup_Sandwich

I'm pretty sure I saw an article that said piracy is on the rise again for this very reason. Beck when it was just Netflix and Hulu people were fine with paying for those two and getting everything so piracy was going down. But now each company has to have their own bullshit streaming service and put ads in it people are just going back to piracy. These fucking companies couldn't just be happy with a smaller slice of a larger pie so now they will get fucked by pirates.

Mordredor

Yeah I'm full on back on the pirate ship, I really don't care about morality when it comes to huge corporations Edited a word

Lol seriously, looking at Hulu. Amazon music and amazon prime video. I don't care if it's advertising their own she's, it's still an advertisement, play my next episode you bitches

raid shadow legends.

Zackautocon72

No matter who advertises it, no matter how good they say it is, I also have absolutely no interest in the game. There are very few mobile games I like and even then, I just don’t play them a whole lot.

Crackracket

I did actually download it. Played it for like 5 minutes, there was very little in the way of strategy or anything and it kept giving me new "tasks"... Eventually I discovered a "Auto fight" button that would literally play the game for you requiring 0 input from you.... I uninstalled it.

PsyGuy64

When plugging it, Caddicarus said the auto-fight was his favorite feature, which was almost certainly a sarcastic way of saying he hates the game.

[deleted]

I still like the OG time passers like Temple Run. Even Minecraft is more fun on long waiting times

science87

Damn I feel old now. When I hear OG in the context of a mobile game I just assume Snake.

[deleted]

I also have that game on my phone. In Nokia aesthetic

Dosyaff

This comment was brought to you by Raid: shadow legends

tnoy23

I know people hate the game ((And rightfully so)) but if I'm being honest I can't blame the people who take the sponsorships. I worked in accounting and someone my company did the books for was a youtuber with 2 million+ subs. He got one sponsor for a video from Raid, only had to have an ad in a single digit number of videos, and got paid $50,000. Per month. For 6 months. I have no intention of playing the game, and I dislike the ads as much as anyone else, but I cannot say with a straight face I'd turn down 50 grand a month to add a 30-60 second segment to a video. That's a huge amount of financial security right there for next to nothing on a video.

sSommy

For 50k per month I will have my car painted with the logo and drive around town all day blasting adverts

chewbaccataco

Hell yeah, sign a contract and I'll quit my current job on the spot

Krillinlt

I'd tattoo it on my fucking forehead for that kind of cash

Specific-Layer

It's kinda nutty.. If I remember the stats they spent something like $7 per person to advertise on.. Like how much money are people spending on this game?!?!

big_red_160

Also Battle whatever that is heavily advertised on TikTok

theyikester

“Play Top War? Is that even a real game?”

Deracination

You know what pisses me off? They made a good game with interesting mechanics, and then ruined it with their monetization. They made awesome graphics for a mobile game, then you set the speed too fast to see anything and play it without looking because it requires ungodly amounts of grinding. They could've put out a single player version with a one time purchase and I'd be all over it, but not getting got by gatcha. Buncha greedy game-ruining geeks, the lot of 'em.

Kramer1812

Helassaid

At least the newest one is the most honest, FBoy Island. Yes it’s called that. I had to see the commercial and learn this information, so now you know too.

coconutmoonbeam

Fboy island is honestly a very good and funny show because while it is not scripted it is EXTREMELY self-aware (okay, maybe some parts are a little scripted)

TheEv0

I have a neighbor (directly across the street) who retired during Covid and he started sitting on his driveway facing the street/my house, he's there Mon-Sun, noon till dinner time and back out till sundown. Like mans out there so much I'd actually be concerned if I didn't see him tbh... Anyways, I park on the street in front of my house and every time I leave/come home. 9/10 times he's sitting out there. I just wanna come and go without feeling like someone's watching me. Plus I don't want to make small talk every time I get in/out of my car. Often times it's like a block party with like 4-5 other neighbors sitting out there with him and they all just watch me get out and unload my car lol... (I've lived here for years and I know them all so it's not weird, but weird yah feel) edit: fwiw, I'd feel less weird if he was 2-3 doors down since that's far away enough but also feelsbadman for him since his 2 kids moved away during Covid and his wife still works during the day, so it's like his only form of socialization

thatskarobot

This has the beginning of a buddy neighbor movie written all over it. Next thing you know- you and this old dude are gonna be driving around town solving a murder mystery in his classic car he hasn't driven in years, with recurring pop culture reference characters like a group of Q Anon's hunting you down, the cops think the old man is the murderer, and like drag queens or something. In the end you realize the friends you had were across the street all along.

TheGreatLandSquirrel

You ever been in a storm Wally?

Jestocost4

NO_Cheeto_in_Chief

Gender reveal parties. We're gonna find out soon enough.

keepYourMonkey

Somebody I worked with had a cringy one of these at our team meeting, after talking shop about very serious issues in suits and ties etc. At the end my manager was like "ok so now we have a special moment where Nadine is going to reveal to us the gender of her baby". She got up excitedly in front revealing a big box covered in glitter and shit, slowly cut a ribbon and balloon popped out with "it's a boy" on it. We just all sat there and awkwardly clapped like we cared.

Evolutioncocktail

At a past job, I went to an in-office gender reveal. The whole thing was weird because both parents worked in the office. They had an affair in Vegas, got pregnant, and subsequently left their respective SOs. Fast forward to the gender reveal hosted by one of their coworkers. It was supposed to be outdoors but it rained that day. We had the party in a conference room. For the reveal, the host threw a baseball on the ground filled with pink powder…..in the conference room. One dude got his slacks completely pink. Im sure they’re still scrubbing pink out of the carpets to this day. The whole thing was bizarre.

elegantbutter

That is the dumbest way to reveal the gender! Omg! Why are people so senseless

TeamWaffleStomp

Don't forget the gender reveal wild fires

semper_h

Don't bring that shit to work...

dedsqwirl

If you are going to bring that shit to work, do it with cupcakes or cake. Fuck off with your glitter.

salacious_vandal

Glitter. Now t*hat* is something I have absolutely *no* interest in. I don't like glitter. It's coarse and rough and irritating, and it gets everywhere.

effyngqt

I'm cringing just by reading. It's cringey enough with family, but putting colleagues through that is a whole new level. Who the fuck cares if Karen on second floor is having a girl or a boy??? Some people really do think they are the main character in everybody else's life.

Celebrities/ Influencer Culture

CC_Keyes

I really **hate** the term "influencer". It just sounds so pompous and is mostly only used by people who want to feel more relevant than they actually are.

Comfortable-Two7798

i may be wrong, but i think the term influencer was coined by advertisers who wanted to use these people to advertise. they said these people have influence over the social media platform hence social media influencer came about as a term. still a stupid thing but it makes sense. these people do have sway and influence over certain target audiences and that’s what companies want to use to spread their message.

paulusmagintie

Every celebrity is an influencer, don't liet the name fool you. The name influencer is them literally bragging theh are selling you shit you don't need and they think they are better than you for it

btbamcolors

Why do people want to feel relevant so badly? I just want to not have to worry about money and have someone to go through life with.

Uries_Frostmourne

Because being relevant = money for some people (spnosorship, etc)

Ashelotta

MLMs. A lot of girls I use to know got super into make up MLMs for a while and it’s like…why? Do you not see how totally scummy it is? Edit: Since a lot of people don’t know what MLMs are I thought I’d clarify. MLM stands for multi level marketing. It’s a pyramid scheme. Someone in the scheme recruits you to join the scheme and you buy the products to sell but the person who recruited you gets a cut of your profits, so you need to recruit more people under you.

shedevilinasnuggie

A friend has been duped into 3 or 4 now, but she's crap at it and never pushes it. She does the thing, posts the pics, but no-one other than her other MLMers comments and she doesn't ever try to enroll anyone or hard sell. It makes it more sad somehow.

decadecency

Makes it a lot better in the case of MLMs honestly. At least she doesn't sink more and more money and free work time into it, stick to it year after year, make up a fake online life around it and lie to everyone about how great it is while everyone close to her very obviously see how this absolutely isn't true but can't speak up because they feel way too bad.

[deleted]

that's exactly the kind of person making MLMs "work". and she probably blames it all on herself which makes it even easier for the system to keep a hold of her. it's this "you could make it if you only tried hard enough. if you don't make it it's your own fault" type of manipulation that's really very sad. because it's true but extremely hard to pull off and most people fail at it. so basically why MLMs work in the first place

Particular_Rav

I've recently been seeing a clickbait on my social media that says, "Did Anne Frank have white privilege? The internet is up in arms..." or something like that. I cannot even describe the feeling of shut the fuuuuuck up and total exhaustion that that question gives me.

[deleted]

[удалено]

zaphdingbatman

Nobody thought it had to be posted -- but someone thought it could get clicks. They were probably right. Not my click, though.

Things_with_Stuff

The thing I find about those type of clickbait links is that I have a sneaky suspicion that they are just generated by AI. They're often so weird and outlandish that all I can think is that there is no way a human wrote that.

SUPE-snow

I'm on Twitter. FYI on where that came from: some Twitter account with like 10 followers said it, someone happened to point it out, the pointing it out triggered Twitter's engagement algorithm, and before long the tweet was something like viral. At that point the dumbest websites felt it was necessary to write about it because it was a "viral controversy." But in reality, virtually no one thinks Anne Frank had white privilege. The entire thing is created by the outrage click industry.

pudgypoultry

Leftists don't even fucking care about this, this is shit meant to specifically cause outrage and avoid critical analysis of material conditions. The internet is not up in arms, the goal of the person who shared that was *to make* the internet up in arms with the reaction to this perceived reaction. It's exhausting.

tekaluf

Exactly. The only people outraged are the ones outraged at the fake outrage

steamrail-760

They're doing it purely to stir up outrage and the fact that you're posting it here means it's working.

lobut

My acid test: If I replace the names in this headline with people from my high school, is it still news? The family of which you speak fails that test every time. Every time Google News offers me a story about one of them, I click "fewer stories like this." Been doing it for years now. Has Google learned? Not that I can tell.

Lonely_Set1376

You can call him that because he murdered a celebrity. But also because he's a murderer who is also a celebrity. So celebrity murderer makes sense no matter how you parse it.

GermOrean

Recently, I've been thinking of politicians as 'influencers'. They say any BS that will get them 'likes' aka votes, and do anything to keep people happy so they dont 'unsubscribe'. I feel like the lines will only get more blurred as we move forward.

EasiestOfEase

Huh, never thought of it that way. This belongs on r/Showerthoughts

Relentless_Salami

Personally it's not even limited to those types of "celebrities" to me. I have a hard time relating to any type of celebrity worship. I don't get the desire to be super close to them and I don't get the desire to know about their personal lives. I was at the Venice airport in the early 2000s when Robert De Niro walked through. Now listen I love a lot of his movies. Taxi Driver, Raging Bull, Casino, Goodfellas etc... But the buddy I was with literally had a meltdown when he saw him because I didn't want to approach him and ask for an autograph. He went alone and to be honest I was fuckin embarrassed for him. He came back oblivious to how awkward he had made it. You could tell De Niro was annoyed, but trying to be super nice. Anyways yeah, I don't get celebrity worship.

mcmonsoon

I lived in LA for a short period with a buddy of mine. When we got out there we went to see some stand up and outside of the club was Vince Vaughn. I’ll never forget when my buddy ran up to him while he was clearly busy and went “YO VINCE!! Can I get a pic???“ Vince just said “uh, nah not right now.” And my friend just turned around and walked back to me and it was some serious second hand cringe.

i_illustrate_stuff

At least your friend was cool about the rejection?

mcmonsoon

Totally was cool but it was embarrassing nonetheless

passthedejon

I went to go see one of Bill Murray's live shows in Portland with my sister and her friend. Well her friend, we can call her K, is an obnoxious die hard fan of his (has a tattoo and everything). So we're watching the show, it's a great time, we're all having a laugh, Bill Murray is singing and decides to carry on the act down and through the aisles. Everyone he walked by was respectful of him and the show and just watched and cheered as he passed by. But not K, she got up out of her God damn seat as he got close, so she could, I still don't know what, hug him? Get close to him? Well he quite literally 360 spun and dodged around her ass and kept walking and singing without missing a note and it was both the cringiest, and most incredible thing I've ever seen. She sat back down devastated. After that, I told my sister I'll never go to another public outing with her again. It's okay to like an actor for their work, but to like them so much you act like that when you see them? Nah man, not for me.

Stopsign09

call-me-mama-t

I was just thinking about the Kardashian Family’s carbon footprint. Can you imagine between the private jets, building, remodeling, tearing down houses? OverlordWaffles

I know most people joke about it but about 3 months ago I was able to take about a week off from work and this feeling came over me after I actually started enjoying my time off. I *really* didn't want to go back to work and tried thinking of ways where I could just quit and still survive. I sadly could not think of anything viable :(

alinroc

I had a 10-day vacation over the July 4th holiday, I think the longest I've had in close to 20 years. Toward the end I found myself not being sure what day of the week it was, and not really caring that I didn't know. The first day back to work was rough.

ObamasBoss

Just had a week vacation. Tomorrow is first day back. Been dreading all week. Part of why I don't take many vacations is I hate so much when they end and knowing there is nothing to look forward to anymore.

cxlesticles

Sending good energy to you my friend! First day back is the worst.

bignuggetsbigworld

This is what got me so much during COVID: “People don’t want to work anymore.” I never wanted to work? At least in the sense people use the word. I would not go to my job everyday for. 8-5 if my salary was just deposited into my account. I would focus on myself and my health, my environment, my pleasure. I’d do something I was actually passionate about but at my leisure. I am having a bit of stomach upset today (Sunday) and have still doing chores and taking medicine to ensure I am can go in tomorrow. Yes I have sick time but wouldn’t it be amazing to just..not?

Scanlansam

Going on a cruise.

BSB8728

I have no interest in typical ocean cruises, and our neighbors' descriptions of bingo and the casinos and pools confirm that I would hate it. But we went on a Viking river cruise and loved every minute. No one under 16, no pool, no casinos or games. Small ships and fantastic activities in each port. I did a 25-mile bike ride through the Black Forest and a foodie walking tour of Strasbourg. Hope we can afford to do it again one day.

vonHindenburg

Yup. My wife is someone who likes to tour intensively. I like to have more relaxed vacations. A Viking cruise was the perfect compromise. It was a moving hotel where we woke up every day in a new town to explore, without having to pack our bags or worry about a car. Meals were there on the boat if we wanted them, or we could do as we pleased in the towns. We did this cruise in our mid 30s and were, by far, the youngest people there not traveling with a retired parent. (Other lines apparently draw a slightly younger crowd.) We learned quickly to just ignore the included tours and go and do our own thing. We have a 5 yo now and can't wait to try it again in a couple years when she'll be old enough. EDIT: The prices can be a bit high. If you're interested, sign up for their email list. You'll get notifications about 2-for-1 deals, free airfare, etc, which brings down the cost by a considerable amount. As for the included tours, there will be a few that you have to do through them to see the thing (string quartet in Vienna, bus ride to a windmill museum outside of Amsterdam, etc). For the regular town tours, it's best to just research ahead what you want to see and go off yourself. The tours are scheduled around the walking pace and endurance of an 80yo.

Graf25p

Aren’t they much more expensive due to the smaller scale?

BSB8728

Yes. It was a LOT of money for us, but worth every penny.

DoubleRefrigerator74

well, i’m glad you said this. i have a strange fear of the ocean so i randomly got very into researching cruises. not sure why. but good thing i did because i’m prepared for any conversation regarding cruise ships just some stuff i found out accidentally: apparently most cruise ships have a morgue in them. it makes good sense why one could be necessary but i just never thought about it most cruise ships have sensors that can detect when someone goes overboard based on the impact of them hitting the water. i found this comforting but also scary. still not sure when cruise ships get retired/can’t be used anymore, they go to a grave yard where they get taken apart. i believe there’s one in turkey. it’s considered a highly dangerous job

nomadicfeet

There’s also a jail on most cruise ships

Things_with_Stuff

I believe it's called a brig when it's on a ship. EDIT: I am not quite right. Only on military ships is it casually known as a brig.

FlavorD

Many years ago I talked to someone working for a cruise line, and he told the story of how the ship staff made the mistake of taking down the head waiter's picture in the hallway. If they had just left it up, probably everyone would have thought they had just missed him whenever they ate. In fact, he had died. They had to serve a bunch of cakes and put him in the freezer.

TheNirvanaSmiley

Yeah, the morgue is definitely required. A lot of cruise ship passengers are the elderly because it's not a strenuous holiday for them to go on. I've been on three cruises in my life and on two of them, we had people die. One person died in the pool, I assume they drowned after experiencing health complications so we had to wait in the port because they had to transfer the body to the country we were docked in so that they could be sent back to their home country. They had to close the pool for a few days to deep clean it. I've also been on a plane when someone passed away mid-flight. I remember the person's crying wife being escorted off first after we landed and then the passenger being wheeled off, covered in a sheet. It was kind of surreal.

Nuancing your answer a bit, for me it's *watching* and *tracking athletes*. I love playing sports, I just hate the idea of watching them on TV. And I'm also into extreme sports, so I will 100% fit in at any gathering to watch the X-Games or MMA media lol

Running for any political office. Who would want to put up with all the BS. You get your name drug thru the mud no matter how good a person you are.
