This is exactly how I was planning to wear this coat anyway.
This deserves its own post!! Zara **infuriates** me.
Why do you do this Zara? Why do you have to be special and different? I shouldn’t have to learn a whole new style of browsing just to buy jeans ffs
Why do you have to organise your stock that way?? Why do your models pose like that??
Why??
I used to work at the Zara flagship store on Pitt St. The Zara Au general manager would tell us (proudly lol) that Zara never paid for advertisements. This type of photography and imagery generates intrigue and benefits the brand
Was just shopping with my husband and we passed Zara. On the top level the menswear section was pristine, perfectly organised and colour coordinated and looked like a far more expensive shop. Even the kids wear section looked like a chic boutique.
Went down the escalators past the womenswear section and it was absolute chaos! Looked like an entirely different brand.
I saw advice one time that said that if there's no good photos or videos of somebody wearing the clothes normally, standing up straight and just showing off what it looks like, there are major fit issues. The time or two I ignored the advice and ordered it anyways, the advice proved true. There aren't pictures of somebody just standing up in the clothes without a "cool" pose because when you do that it sits weird on the hips or whatever.
A dress arrived and the waist was just in the wrong place for like, the vast majority of bodies, and I looked at the photos where the model doesn't ever stand up straight and I was like "Yeah, they should make a better dress but also this is on me."
I find this with ASOS all the time - there’s often angles not shown or the model is in an awkward position that doesn’t show it properly. I always assume there’s a reason why, and avoid ordering those items.
I want to see it on a normal standing person, I want any claims about pockets backed up with close ups esp if black, and I want fabric feel described in detail eg. "this is the buttery soft version of viscose, not the leap-back-in-horror-sensory-shooshy-puffa-jacket-nightmare version"
They also need to grade hood sizes on clothing, like cup sizes. So many hoodies / coats / jackets have tiny hoods that don’t accommodate the length of neck and are ill fitted, keep sliding off or make your head look like it’s wrapped in a condom etc. This is why I almost never buy hooded garments online, especially since most of the time the models don’t even wear it up or they do a half assed job of it with weird, obfuscating angles.
Omg yes what is with that? I'm 164cm, size XXXS - S depending on brand, head circumference is the same as my 10 year old since we can happily share hats, yet I'm constantly running into the too small hood/hoodies designed for bipedal turtles that keep their necks constantly retracted thing. Why is having a neck an impediment that narrows your hooded top options so severely?
I'll buy a hooded garment online if there's a photo (preferably several) of the model with the hood up and it looks nice and big. Otherwise, no. I need a proper hood on my hoodie.
I’d love to know how deep the pockets are as well, with photo evidence 👀 none of those pockets that don’t even fit a folded A4 piece of paper or a pen without falling out
I'm currently wearing a size XS men's sweatpant and they're so superior to every pair of women's sweatpants I've ever worn - my phone can fit into the pockets without falling out, they sit at my natural waist without giving me a wedgie, and the legs finish at my ankles instead of slightly above. I'm 164cm, which is apparently exactly average height so idk why I keep getting stuck with a "petite" cut in some women's clothing.
If I can't see a model's whole hand inside the pocket I don't want it. And fuck those that put their hands in the waist/ behind a baggy piece of fabric to give the illusion of a pocket.
Every clothing site should have a photo for every product where the model is standing completely straight and not posing at all so u can see what the clothes actually look like normally, I feel this very strongly
I definitely think a little more highly of brands that do this. I also appreciate when they have a little video of the model moving in the product! And as someone who is currently looking for breastfeeding friendly clothing I love love love when they have a close up of the buttons on a top/dress so I can see if they’re “real” or for show
The most helpful is when ppl upload photos of themselves wearing the outfit in the reviews sections. It’s normal lighting, not filtered, a range of body shapes and heights, normal everyday poses etc
I've bought many a top/cardigan/jumper that appears to be normal length from cotton on and h&m, but because of the stupid photos it's hard to tell, anyway they're always really short or almost cropped.
This is beyond infuriating. I was trying to buy a dress to attend a wedding last year and way having trouble finding something I liked. I looked everywhere with increasing frustration. I almost lost my mind when I came across a store that had editorial style shots of the back of a few of their dresses, only to click on them to see more images only to find that was it. There were none of the front! The front!
"Not in any way ... aspirational"
You should meet some of the 8-year olds I teach. Tucking your knees into your shirt is the current fashion.
I tell them if they want a garment that covers their knees they should wear a dress to school. This tends to be pretty effective deterrent, especially for the boys.
I mean, I gave up and bought my eight year old boy nighties at his suggestion because this is how he likes to sit, so he would probably be completely unfazed by this idea.
Well if he stops wrecking his shirts, objective acheived. I don't care what the kids wear beyond it being school uniform, appropriate for the weather, and accompanied by appropriate footwear.
I grew up in a cold place; tucking your entire self into your jumper was pretty standard during primary school assemblies etc when you had to be outside (particularly since this was before it was standard for girls to wear pants instead of those horrible winter pinafores, I think you technically could but it wasn't that common until I hit high school). As long as there are oversized jumpers, there will be people pulling them over their legs.
Yeah, no. I was talking about how her hand is holding her head up. This is a sexist portrayal of women, as it suggests they are so weak that they can't hold their heads up and need to use their hand to support it.
This is exactly how I’d put on my t-shirts when I didn’t want to admit I’d put on weight. “The fabric shrunk, gotta stretch it to fit over my boobs” and then I’d have a weird stretched out bubble between my breasts and stomach
Asos is a one for this, endless posed pictures with clothing being blown in all directions by a fan, and I can never see what the back of the skirt/shirt/dress looks like!
Omg! I can hear the same thing! But I actually hate when I'm looking at cloths online and you can't tell by the photos if they're selling the shirt or the pants or something, or the model is covering the clothes with their arms or something, so frustrating!!
Also, if it’s a jacket, can you show it, at least once, buttoned up? All these photos where the model is clutching either side of the jacket at waist level just say to me that thing doesn’t fit and won’t do up.
If it won’t close at the model’s waist, there is less than no chance it will do up over mine.
I always assume if they do pictures like this and won’t show the product how it looks on a model standing up straight/“normally” and not posed in a certain way, then the item of clothing must look bad when the model stood like an actual person would. If they can’t show it to you on a person standing up straight, it’s likely to be a poor fit anyway
Zara & H&M are so bad for this. I especially love when I’m looking for pants and all the photos just show them with the model’s shirt/jumper hanging down past the waistband and there is NO CLUE what’s happening up in there. Or they’ll advertise it as high waist, and the model’s bellybutton is clearly at least an inch & a half above the waistband. And then swipe to the next pair and it’s just a flatlay of the front & back, possibly because the models were off getting physio 😭
Actually the level of stretch it’s showing may actually be useful as someone who is pregnant.
Outside of that, this is so stupid.
But I will be checking on H&M (in store) to see if I can find a stretchy midi dress that isn’t see through (Kmart) or overly expensive or ugly (everywhere so far). I hate current fashion.
Mine was black and white stripes, and v neck Target tops in solid eggplant, teal and orange. Vile and outrageously expensive. It was at the time our dollar was better than the US so I bought stuff online through Amazon which was a lifesaver. And ASOS when they were still cheap and good.
I actually kind of like these, provided there’s another image that just shows it worn normally. It’s like magazines sometimes showing the ‘vibe’ vs just the clothes.
Which other pictures are you referring to? The one where the model has her arm over her head in a stupid pose? Or the one where there’s a giant coat covering the jumper?
There's also the jumper on it's own not being worn by somebody, and a close up of the fabric, so with all those combined, I understand the vibe of this item of clothing, and that's more important than understanding what it looks like.
It's not like I would have any better picture if there was a picture of a model wearing the jumper without a coat over it from the front, from the side, and from the back - websites who include those pictures are just boring and predictable. Shoppers don't need to know those things about an item, they need to know if it's FASHION.
(Edited to say that this is most definitely sarcasm)
I’m not sure if you are being sarcastic or not but seeing the item from the front, side and back is literally the only thing I want to see in the photo. It’s not about being boring, it’s about showing me what I’m going to buy…
Zara is really bad for this too. I JUST WANT TO SEE WHAT THE DRESS LOOKS LIKE ON A PERSON STANDING IN A NORMAL HUMAN POSITION.

Ahhhh finally a proper pic of me in public suffering from social anxiety.
I've been using [this](https://i.imgur.com/9ZIzRBZ.jpeg) as a reaction image for years lol
I will now do the same. Thank you 🤣
😂😂
Omfg hahahah
😆😆
Dead 💀💀💀💀
Holy shit thats fucked and amazing
😂😂
This coat looks really nice 😂 what’s the brand
New. It's brand new.

My brain can’t figure out what’s happening here
She’s wearing a v neck jumper as pants upside down 😂
I don’t know what is happening here but it looks vaguely obscene.
I'm expecting her to bend over like Kath in the opening credits to Kath and Kim.
SCREAMING at this
Excuse me is this a damn sweater hahaha
Jumper pants!
Turn your smile to a frown Turn your wardrobe upside down
Ahh, another Get This fan in the wild!
Jumpants
Is this real?? I'm losing it lmfao
What the fuck am I even seeing here
Why does this look like she's wearing crotchless pants? Oh my word hahahahahaha
Is that a crotch
Is this for easy births?
Gastro pants?
Actually one day I forgot to take my pants to work and took 2 tops instead. So this would have been really helpful to help me style it out
This deserves its own post!! Zara **infuriates** me. Why do you do this Zara? Why do you have to be special and different? I shouldn’t have to learn a whole new style of browsing just to buy jeans ffs Why do you have to organise your stock that way?? Why do your models pose like that?? Why??
I used to work at the Zara flagship store on Pitt St. The Zara Au general manager would tell us (proudly lol) that Zara never paid for advertisements. This type of photography and imagery generates intrigue and benefits the brand
It certainly brings people into the store! Can’t risk shopping online with images like that! 😭😂
You’re so right. Like thanks, I hate it
Omg so true haha
This is primarly why I never buy Zara. I'm not able to get in to a store, but the online store is off-putting. I always just give up.

Don’t you hate it when you ignore good advice from people who know what they’re talking about and it doesn’t go well. Been there 😂
A dress arrived and the waist was just in the wrong place for like, the vast majority of bodies, and I looked at the photos where the model doesn't ever stand up straight and I was like "Yeah, they should make a better dress but also this is on me."

Yes! They drive me nuts with this shit.
This is really good advice!
I agree! It’s always to disguise awkward clothing.
Zara hires contortionists to model their clothes, exclusively.
Their website is trash all around
The weird swiping kills me
Zara in general is trash 🙃
LITERALLY or so many of their pics are in black and white like omg i need to see the colour
omg Zara is so bad with this
I want to see it on a normal standing person, I want any claims about pockets backed up with close ups esp if black, and I want fabric feel described in detail eg. "this is the buttery soft version of viscose, not the leap-back-in-horror-sensory-shooshy-puffa-jacket-nightmare version"

Why is having a neck an impediment that narrows your hooded top options so severely?
Oh this annoys me too! So many hoods are just ornamental and have no real function as a hood that actually covers the head.
I’m the opposite! I drown in all my hoods and stumble around trying to see.
I'll buy a hooded garment online if there's a photo (preferably several) of the model with the hood up and it looks nice and big. Otherwise, no. I need a proper hood on my hoodie.

I'm 164cm, which is apparently exactly average height so idk why I keep getting stuck with a "petite" cut in some women's clothing.
Yeah those vent pockets can do one!
Especially since most phones are designed for male hands and are way bigger than necessary !
If I can't see a model's whole hand inside the pocket I don't want it. And fuck those that put their hands in the waist/ behind a baggy piece of fabric to give the illusion of a pocket.
I’m assuming it’s because the tailoring is poor, they have to disguise it.
When you gotta give birth at 1pm but you got a shareholder meeting at 2pm
How many people got a share on your baby?
But you missed the shareholder meeting bc you tripped on your shoelaces while giving birth.
Every clothing site should have a photo for every product where the model is standing completely straight and not posing at all so u can see what the clothes actually look like normally, I feel this very strongly
Also, at least one photo of a top not tucked in, so you can actually see how long it is, what sort of hem it has, etc.
Yes, show me a photo without a French Tuck, please!
YES!!! this drives me crazy!
Yes and hair up, not obscuring straps. Ideally on at least 2 different sized models.
I also would like a simple sketch that shows the seams, detail placement etc like you find on sewing patterns.
I definitely think a little more highly of brands that do this. I also appreciate when they have a little video of the model moving in the product! And as someone who is currently looking for breastfeeding friendly clothing I love love love when they have a close up of the buttons on a top/dress so I can see if they’re “real” or for show
And models with long hair put up or our the way, do I can see the shoulders & neckline please
The most helpful is when ppl upload photos of themselves wearing the outfit in the reviews sections. It’s normal lighting, not filtered, a range of body shapes and heights, normal everyday poses etc
Yeah if it's got pockets on the back I want to see them etc. Models doing inflatable tube men poses hide all the garments details.
Inflatable tube men pose is gold
I hate H&M's photos! Especially when it's mostly styled images that obscure most of the advertised item.
My mum used to yell at me for doing this with my shirts in about 1994.
Oh no here comes the “stretch my clothes out” trend!
I've bought many a top/cardigan/jumper that appears to be normal length from cotton on and h&m, but because of the stupid photos it's hard to tell, anyway they're always really short or almost cropped.
You mean you can't tell the length of a garment from a photo of someone curled into a ball?
That's right, it's definitely my fault!
The front!
LUDICROUS
It's unhelpful and sexist
"Not in any way ... aspirational" You should meet some of the 8-year olds I teach. Tucking your knees into your shirt is the current fashion. Oldies are good for it, my son is like yours.

Haha I saw this too! Hate H&Ms photos!
Me over the heater vent in winter..
It's either weird poses or hyper sexual, for a man's gaze poses, neither of which make me want to buy clothes
Boycott. And tell them why.
As a mum this stresses me out, your stretching your damn shirt out
Right, especially a knit!
Also - everyone can see your knickers 😭
What in the actual world????
I thought OP was gonna talk about how the image is sexist lol.
My only thought is that photographer is a creep.
That too.
Yeah I don't like the pose either. Mums everywhere also be like "NOBODY WANTS TO SEE YOUR KNICKERS"
Yeah, no. I was talking about how her hand is holding her head up. This is a sexist portrayal of women, as it suggests they are so weak that they can't hold their heads up and need to use their hand to support it.
There is the possibility that the model’s a man.
Yes that's pretty bad lol I wanna see the clothing not your minge.
Lmao. Its called FASHUN 💅 But yes totally agree. We don’t look to H&M for editorial content. We want practical poses!
Let's check on the stretchness. IYKYK.
10cm dilated?
This is exactly how I’d put on my t-shirts when I didn’t want to admit I’d put on weight. “The fabric shrunk, gotta stretch it to fit over my boobs” and then I’d have a weird stretched out bubble between my breasts and stomach
This thread just made my evening 😝
Asos is a one for this, endless posed pictures with clothing being blown in all directions by a fan, and I can never see what the back of the skirt/shirt/dress looks like!
My girlfriend was doing this exact thing in a sweater yesterday clearly the marketing team knows their target demographic
I do this when I buy a jumper or tshirt that looks too snug on my boobs or tummy and I want to loosen/slouch it up a bit.
Omg! I can hear the same thing! But I actually hate when I'm looking at cloths online and you can't tell by the photos if they're selling the shirt or the pants or something, or the model is covering the clothes with their arms or something, so frustrating!!
Ahhh fashion... Where adults get paid to act like 5 year olds. Isn't it great?
Also, if it’s a jacket, can you show it, at least once, buttoned up? All these photos where the model is clutching either side of the jacket at waist level just say to me that thing doesn’t fit and won’t do up. If it won’t close at the model’s waist, there is less than no chance it will do up over mine.
So annoying!!!! Just show it to me.
I always assume if they do pictures like this and won’t show the product how it looks on a model standing up straight/“normally” and not posed in a certain way, then the item of clothing must look bad when the model stood like an actual person would. Hard agree.
Yeah - they really do think women are stupid.
Zara & H&M are so bad for this. I especially love when I’m looking for pants and all the photos just show them with the model’s shirt/jumper hanging down past the waistband and there is NO CLUE what’s happening up in there. God yes. Pants are hard enough to buy as it is.
As a young Mum with fidgety kids this is triggering my mothering instincts so hard right now.
I’m getting PTSD throw backs to being a kid and having my mum go off at me for putting my knees in my shirt and stretching it
https://preview.redd.it/1v7unat58l1d1.png?width=565&format=png&auto=webp&s=8805dcf71000f6132b87746b93f4905c018a5abc
LOLOLOLOL
They do it to disguise how awkward the clothes look imo. ASOS drive me nuts for this. Usually it’s when they have an ugly dress to sell.
Like girl ain’t nobody’s wearing it like this bffr
thats how you make kmart tier clothing look cool and trendy
Just wait until they start using AI images instead of actual photos. Good luck buying anything that looks like the pictures anymore.
They already do in those Temu / Shein type sites, a vague approximation of an item copy pasted onto an AI created body.
To be fair, I was in store today and noted they do have a decent maternity range. Much better than 12 years ago when I was pregnant.
My first pregnancy was seven years ago. I still remember putrid green leopard print shirts that were being sold for maternity wear. So, so bad.
Mine was black and white stripes, and v neck Target tops in solid eggplant, teal and orange. Vile and outrageously expensive. It was at the time our dollar was better than the US so I bought stuff online through Amazon which was a lifesaver. And ASOS when they were still cheap and good.
“Less”
I actually kind of like these, provided there’s another image that just shows it worn normally. It’s like magazines sometimes showing the ‘vibe’ vs just the clothes.
Is that Nelly Furtado?
Capitalism determines that if The stock sells then the ads work. Can’t fix what isn’t financially broken
Can't measure how many units they don't sell, either.
She kinda looks a little bit like she broke out of the high-security ward ngl
This is definitely something I would've done as a kid...
We used to do that at primary school
Not gonna lie that does look comfy and something I'd do on my couch haha
Stop your stretching it
Yes stop this!!! Mansplaining is for men only. /s

I’m not sure if you are being sarcastic or not but seeing the item from the front, side and back is literally the only thing I want to see in the photo. It’s not about being boring, it’s about showing me what I’m going to buy…
Sorry, I am actually being sarcastic. I might edit my comment BC it's not as obvious as I thought
Hahaha, I’m so glad. Text is hard sometimes. 😅
Stop what exactly?
