Merry boots are super comfortable, but it’s important to note they are marketed as rain boots, not gum boots. They are waterproof but I’ve found wearing them through the bush and to junior footy etc, I’ve got mud and grass stains on them that I cannot lift

honeylights

Yep can't get rid of stains on mine either

snowmuchgood

Omg I thought I was the only one! Mine got stained (and then cracked and got holes) really quickly, but I was stomping in puddles with my kids, walking through muddy trails and gardening in mine, maybe others weren’t.

chazazz

Bogs are great. I have the sweet pea boot and it’s flexible and really comfortable. I am a teacher and wear them to school in the winter.

rainbow-is-caramel

My Bogs have lasted for years! I love them and get compliments all the time. I tried ordering Merry People but it didn't work for me. IDK maybe my feet are in between sizes, but neither size 7 or 8 felt comfy so I sent them back.

saturnsorbit1

I had a look and they have cute printed boots :—) hmm will consider!

RedDotLot

Looking on that website was dangerous! I just mentally spent about a grand!

i_need_another_scarf

Can also recommend Bogs. Comfortable, flexible, reasonably lightweight. Some styles also offer wide fittings.

cremonaviolin

Hunter are excellent. I bought mine through The Iconic, which enable me to do free returns when they suggested size was way off. I am wearing them right now, even with orthotics, as it is absolutely bucketing down in Sydney.

carlsjbb

I have the short Hunters and love them. Have had them for years and bring them out on days like today in Sydney

cremonaviolin

I have the short ones too, so I don’t need to worry about calf sizing. Makes the whole process much easier. They aren’t lined for warmth though, so my feet are dry but cold.

ChicChat90

I know people are recommending Merry People but I hate mine. They’re incredibly uncomfortable, bulky and heavy. I’ve had them for 2 years and rarely wear them because they’re just so awful. They were expensive too.

snowmuchgood

I liked mine (definitely wouldn’t say loved, needed to wear merino with them because they don’t breathe at all) but they also deteriorated quite quickly. In less than 18 months. For the price point, I was disappointed by that and probably won’t get another pair.

quirkyfail

Me too! I also find the ankle bit isn't narrow enough so my feet are always slipping out even though they fit fine everywhere else. And the heaviness and bulkiness kill them for me. Which is ao disappointing cos I bought them after dreaming of them for years!

ChicChat90

They’re so hard to walk in!

Thepancakeofhonesty

I love mine and wear them often but they have deteriorated terribly. Very stained and full of cracks everywhere. They recently came away from the sole. Also, they don’t keep your feet *warm*…But I still love them 😞

ChicChat90

That’s really interesting. I’m glad they worked for you.

Human_Wasabi550

Yeah I have to agree I sold mine. They felt worse than wearing work boots on my feet. I cannot imagine wearing mine to work all day.

ChicChat90

Good idea to sell them!

SmelleenasMoose

I agree with you. I also have wide feet, and they're obviously not made for feet like mine.

lulubooboo_

Yeah I agree. I wear them if it’s wet for school drop off in the morning, but I can’t stand them for longer than an hour max

ChicChat90

I’m a teacher so I’ve worn them from my car into the classroom and then changed. That’s it!

Anazay1

I have the bared gumboots and they're incredibly comfortable and look quite nice, they don't have a gumboot look

littlesev

I have hush puppies rain boots that are slim and depending on the color, look like regular chelsea boots.

blossom78910

How do people style gumboots for outdoor activities?? With Leggings?

Wagon789

Having just bought some Merry People, I would say Hunter boots are better when comparing. However I suggest you try them on if you have the time. A cheaper alternative in Dansko boots- I've yet to try them myself but many of my colleagues do for work.

Wagon789

Dansko is the brand many people wear in theatre too!

saturnsorbit1

Going through all the comments, I have decided against Merrypeople..I’ll be working in theatres too, surely Dansko is tried and tested. I’ll have a look!

babywrangler

Another vote for merry people. I just bought my second pair after over 2 years of almost daily wear (obvs less in summer) they were developing very faint cracks. I’m a preschool teacher and walk everywhere so my wear was very solid and I love them

saturnsorbit1

Is it comfortable to wear all day? Also did you need to break it in? Im glad you had a good experience with it

babywrangler

When I first got them I was used to a lighter shoe (I think a target ankle boot gum boot dupe) so it took me a day or two to get used to them, and a friend found them uncomfortable because she was trying to wear ankle socks/invisible sockettes with them but I just got a new pair and there was zero wear in time. I’ve just worn them 3 days in a row with absolutely no discomfort.

growinghope

When I first got my merry people I also went and brought some of those orthopaedic inserts that Coles have it really helped with getting the right fit so I could wear them all day. Mine are 3.5 years old and still going "strong" though they have the stains and cracks others have mentioned.

TinosCallingMeOver

I put my Bared insoles in my Merry People gumboots and they’re super comfortable, no need to break in :)

Decent_Body_4426

Another for Merry Boots. I have big wide feet and find them very comfortable. Their customer service is pretty good too and they have free returns.

saturnsorbit1

Wow this is really convincing hahah im gonna go order their lilac boots and see how it is!

geliden

I've got a high instep and just...can't wear them sadly. Last time I tried my foot was achy for a week and a half. Comfy APART from crushing one foot?

unclesquiggily

Hot tip the insoles come out and you can put your own in!

_Smedette_

Another vote for Merry People.

PeterDuttonsButtWipe

Just spent very wet Saturday sport in a pair of newly bought Hunters and it’s the first time I’ve owned some gumboots. Very happy

90sgymfan

Hunter boots, they're expensive but they last forever

NatAttack3000

Bared do a rain boot/rubber boot fyi Not many left https://baredfootwear.com/au/articles/it-s-official-we-re-b-corp-certified

moragthegreat_

I mean, I love my merry people, but I've seen other people really not liking them on this sub. My sister just bought some Matt & nat boots and wore them all the time on an o.s trip where she walked loads. She has v narrow feet though.

NatAttack3000

I wore my merry peoples about 3 weeks straight on holiday in us winter. Lasted through rain, hiking and snow. I wear orthotics and I didn't have to size up even

saturnsorbit1

Hmm okay they do have nice colours. Which boot did you have specifically? I think i have wide feet and i wear size 7.5 womens. I am considering this brand bc the colours look so cute!

moragthegreat_

I have a slightly wide foot at the front and the toe box is good for me! I have the Bobbi boot in green and I really love them: https://merrypeople.com/products/bobbi-gumboot-alpine-green-black

moragthegreat_

And my sister got the Laney boot from Matt & Nat. I bought both my sisters and my mum Merry Peoples and they all love them too, probably don't wear them as often as me. They're so comfy and easy that I wear them regardless of the weather
