On the My Efficient Electric Home Facebook group, lots of people recommend Veneta blinds. I think they make to measure based on measurements you provide.

AussieKoala-2795

That's right. We have Venetia honeycomb blinds. Very simple to DIY the installation as it just needs a few screws per blind. Ours are recess mounted.

Into_The_Unknown_Hol

Damn expensive tho. Just quoted my master bedroom and it was 1 grand. I got 4 bedrooms.. lol

Rye-bread93

A cheaper alternative suggested in that fb group is a seller on Aliexpress called Persilux official. We just got a quote from them today and it was half the cost of the veneta equivalent.

BRunner--

We used Veneta blinds. They are fully online. Easy to install with minimal skill. For price comparison, we did the whole house for slightly more than what was quoted for a single room (required 5x blinds).

arabsandals

Big temp difference? Also my partner is concerned about the inside of the blinds - dust and insects getting inside and being difficult to clean. Has that been an issue for you?

BRunner--

Massive improvement in temp and comfort. I would not bother thinking about getting dust inside the blinds. Insects can easily be blown out. Cleaning has not been a concern of ours. If you fit them inside the frame, the thermal performance will be even better.

BRunner--

I forgot to add that Veneta made custom size, so you don't need to modify them.

lifeDNP

Will these install in bifold doors? Looking at this one [https://www.blindsonline.com.au/full-blockout-duo/42673/total-blockout-thermal-frost-white.htm](https://www.blindsonline.com.au/full-blockout-duo/42673/total-blockout-thermal-frost-white.htm) the instructions say to wedge it in the recess of the window frame but I need over a large 1.4 x 2m bifold patio door. I could easily screw and mount them to the inside frame of the doors since they swing outwards but don't see screw mountings?

BRunner--

Take a look at the Veneta website they have multiple options, including vertical honey comb blinds for doors. They can even talk you through choices if you get lost on the website.

The_Marine_Biologist

You can get custom ones here but measure and install is all DIY. [blindsonline.com.au](https://www.blindsonline.com.au/)

BackstageTurtle

Got mine from here. No issues.

ceelose

I ordered mine on Alibaba. I got some with foil for full blockout and better insulation and some translucent. The quality is great, the service was amazing, I recieved them 8 days after ordering and they cost a fraction of what they would have to get made locally. Very happy.

reddithero9

Hi there, thanks for that , could you provide a link to the seller and the product?

GateheaD

Did you order them all at once? It seems the minimum order is 2 blinds and I only want to get one to check out the quality and how hard fitting them is etc

ceelose

I did one order of 2, then another 13. The price is so low, you could just risk 2.

GateheaD

I'm going to sound stupid here, were the two you ordered the first go around come in different sizes? If I were to order two I would get two totally different window sizes and hope they're ok

ceelose

I actually ordered a pair to cover quite a large window. As long as you can measure, they will be the size you order. You should clarify clearances when ordering.

reddithero9

One more question!... There seems to be a few different types on that link, which one did you guys get so I know it's tried and proven. Thanks! Appreciate your time a lot

Swimming-Discount450

I really love ours and I do think they work thermally

Runeix

Ours keep the house warm, but have been causing condensation on the inside of the double glazing on cold nights, I think they are trapping warm moist air behind them which then cool due to the gaps in the frames of the sliding doors (which I need to get someone out to see if I can get fixed)

TheBunningsSausage

Caulk it. Search ‘how to caulk’ on YouTube. It’s cheap and easy.

Runeix

How can I caulk a sliding door and still have it open and shut?

TheBunningsSausage

I read your message as saying you had gaps around the frame of the sliding doors, not around the doors themselves - my apologies for misunderstanding.

Runeix

No worries, It’s a brand new building, so I’m not exactly happy with them

vixen_vulgarity

I love ours, we have them on nearly every window in the house. The original ones that were there when we bought the house are all from Luxaflex and have double cells. We then bought some cheap, single cell ones from Spotlight for the bathrooms. Our house was built in the 80s, and has awful single pane, aluminium frame windows which let in all the cold in winter and all the heat in summer. We do get condensation on the windows but haven't had any issues with it getting on the blinds. We make sure to open up all blinds and ventilate the house every day to ensure we have no mould issues. The blinds make a huge difference to the temperature of the house. When we open up the blinds in the morning, we feel the temperature drop significantly.

mal_ma_mal

We get a lot of condensation on our shitty windows, the blinds do next to nothing to improve that, the blinds get damp and because of the way they open don’t dry out properly, then they go mouldy, you clean them a couple of times then give up and throw them out. We have since bought dehumidifiers to run each morning, maybe that would help, maybe if you ran them or a split system all night it would work but I don’t sleep with the heater on. Only solution for me is replace the shit windows but still avoiding spending so much.

littlesev

I’m curious about the keep up. Is it as easy to clean as regular blinds, and does it collect dust easily because of the material and shape?

OneSharpSuit

We were very happy with Blinds Online. But results depend somewhat on your installation - you’ll get a **lot** more insulation if you can fit them inside the reveal rather than in front of the window

rawdatarams

We used blinds online.com.au. Perhaps not the cheapest, but we needed custom sizing. I have the honeycombs in all of my windows, they're great at keeping heat/cold at bay. Particularly heat, even through windows getting hot midday sun.

NixiNinja

For insulation and warmth, honeycomb blinds are the better choice. [https://venetablinds.com.au/blogs/veneta-vibes/honeycomb-diy-blinds-options](https://venetablinds.com.au/blogs/veneta-vibes/honeycomb-diy-blinds-options)

AccordingWarning9534

Absolutely swear by them. We have done all the bedrooms it's made a huge difference in warmth and comfort. You need to get them installed inside the window frame for maximum efficiency. I also think they help with noise a little too. Edit to add: we had regular roller blinds before installing honeycombs blinds so my comparison is between those

xjrh8

I’ve used smartwings honeycomb(aka cellular) blinds for one really big window so far. Was 550USD delivered. They are made to measure in China and shipped to you direct via DHL, took 3 days. DIY installation was easy. Will shortly order another 8 of them for rest of house.

gandamu79

We had to use these but fix them into the frame of each window as we retrofitted upvc windows. Can’t say whether they’re better than curtains but the house is a lot warmer in winter (although that could be the double glazed windows helping). We got ours from Blindsonline on special. Paid about $1800 for 19 blinds.

This is so helpful thank you so much. If you had a buyer or listing you trusted that you could drop here that would be great too ..appreciate this so much

funkeymonkey5555

Absolutely go with Curtain and Blind Co. Significantly cheaper than Venetia and even Blinds Online. Product is brilliant and customer service is the best I’ve experienced. You can choose to do recess fit or face fit, whichever works best for your home. They have videos online to help you measure, or you can contact them for assistance.

ramble_01

Not very helpful, but we have bought cheap ones from Spotlight for now - [https://www.spotlightstores.com/blinds/roller-blinds/selections-25-mm-studio-blockout-cellular-blind/BP80630074-white](https://www.spotlightstores.com/blinds/roller-blinds/selections-25-mm-studio-blockout-cellular-blind/BP80630074-white) as that is what we can afford right now (I had previously attached some polar fleece material to the back of some cheap blackout curtains - but they were in dire need of replacement). The blinds seem to be working well so far, however, it is the first winter I have properly monitored the inside temperature...and I'm pretty sure I'm in perimenopause and suffering from hot flushes/raised body temperature so it's hard to say that the new blinds have made a positive difference! :D

locksmack

How do honeycomb blinds compare to curtains for thermal efficiency?

ironchieftain

They are much better. There is an article on Choice, they tested all sort of insulation. Obviously double glazing will be the best option but incomparable financially.

locksmack

Thanks! As the new owner of a 40 year old house with a lot of windows in a very cold pocket of Victoria, I’m happy to learn this!

Responsible-Sleep695

We have them in back bedroom as room is very bright. Not sure if they keep heat in but if you close them then room is very very dark. We had ours measured and installed. One big window 1k about 3 years ago. I forgot who did them.
