Just rented out their screen last month, great screen, nice folks and the cheapest price I was quoted in Austin. It’s a bigger area than you think it’ll be as well
I've rented one of the Austin Film Society theaters for a 2-hour presentation and it was only $700. I've also rented one of the smaller Drafthouse theaters for a private movie showing and it was, I think, $300 but you have to guarantee a certain amount of food and drink will be purchased by attendees. Time of day and day of the week make a big difference in the price for such rentals. If you want a theater at 7:00 on a Friday or Saturday, it's gonna be much more.
During the pandemic, we did a private screening of a movie there for like $130. At the time they gave a choice of like 20 movies, or you could bring an Xbox or PlayStation and play on the movie theater screen. If they still have the gaming option, you could bring a console and play the show or movie you wanted from that.
Okay I'm flying blind here because I have no idea what exactly happens in the birthday episode from new girl BUT
Give the folks at the Hideout on Congress a call. They have 2 small theaters in there, one upstairs, one down, and I'm sure they can hang a screen.
If you're willing to consider going outside of downtown, call the VORTEX theatre and maybe the Groundfloor and see if they can help you.
A bit of a spin on the idea, but Blue Starlite has rental prices on their website for their drive-in theaters: [https://www.bluestarliteaustin.com/now-playing](https://www.bluestarliteaustin.com/now-playing)
They also have an indoor theater in East Austin at the Millennium Youth Center (not sure on prices)
The UT campus has some theatre spaces that are not occupied this time of year. The Black Box Theatre isn't too large. Not sure if they would charge or not. I think it's located in the Student Union building IRC. Maybe the Flawn bldg.
If you can do VERY small, like 20 people or less, Reel Popcorn on S. Congress has a large screen and seating! It's like $40/hr or something like that + popcorn package.
We Luv Video might do it! It’s a small theatre in the back of the shop. I know they show films there sometimes on the weekend.

Second this. We went to a neighborhood movie night there and it was really cool. Had no idea it was even back there.
Theres theatre stages in the parks

Yeah the sucky thing is her b day lands on a Saturday so that always drives up the price :(
So do it on Thursday. She won’t expect it to be birthday related when you ask her to go to the movies on Thursday.
I wish the dates were flexible, but her friends on flying on Thursday:(
I know the perfect spot for you and will be low cost. Violet Crown Church.
Southwest Lake Creek Theatres at 183 and Lakeline. Was an Alamo way back in the day, and they legit have the most comfy recliners in Austin
I’ll check them out!

on that note, Fallout Theater on Lavaca may be a good option as well. Their stage has a projector and screen.
Good idea! And they are also downtown!
Awesome. I’ll check them out; thank you both so much!
Thank you I’ll reach out to them!
Lisa at Groundfloor Theatre is great, I've worked with her before!
maybe Sterling Events Center, new venue near IH35 and 290… not a movie screen but they can do projection i believe
The millennium center on the east side has a small theater, might ask them!

We Luv Video on North Loop has a small theatre that I hear they rent out for cheap.
Second vote for The Vortex.
There's a small old-timey theater in Taylor which might be able to be rented.
Dougherty Arts Center has a theatre for community use.
I don't have any suggestions, but I'm a fan of New Girl and this is such a cute idea
